So my wife and I are American. In our town, we have a Ukrainian community of immigrants. She is a school teacher and there are several students that only speak Ukrainian. We have decided to learn Ukrainian. We also decided to learn it have another language to speak to my wife with without our kids being able to understand lol
Grest video and very helpful to notice the differences. I did notice differences in my various visits to Ukraine. Especially in Львiв. Common words changes I heard. = Так, ні, будь ласка. Дякую. до побачення, вліво, вправо, стіл, стілець, поїзд. 😁👍
Ukrainian is a beautiful and nice sounding language. Many Ukrainians are living now in my country (Poland) and I've found them really warm and hardworking people. On the other hand i study Turkish and Crimean Tatar and since the beginning of my journey with Crimean Tatar language i haven't met one single Crimean :/
I am living in Kyiv and learning Ukrainian, although Russian is more heard on the streets :/ In any case, I am going to Lviv soon to speak Ukrainian around 😺🥨
5:54 "Ukrainian accented English - Uklish" wow. Compared to Russian people, Ukrainian people have greater advantage to learn foreign languages that use many vowels such as Spanish and Japanese. Ukrainian language is very beautiful. A Ukrainian lady living in Tokyo has her RUclips channel "Hanna in Japan" where she speaks fluent Japanese and cooks great local food at home.
I'd learn Russian and Ukrainian languages. I know that this 2 languages are hard for me because my natives languages are Catalan and Spanish but nothing is impossible if you interest for learning and you want to effort for improving.
I am learning Ukrainian Started 2 weeks after Putin aggression. I am Polish, I had Russian in school for over 10 years and that's help me a lot. I can use both facts to speed learning process. Mainly listening at work, to Ukrainians lessons. I hope I could use this combo to help Ukrainians guests in UK, if they don't speak English. Lots of similarity in both languages, grammar, words, and I know Russian letters, so easier for me to read in Ukrainian in comparison for German, or English native speaker 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
I am learning them both and what I can say the easiest is: Pronunciation: Ukrainian Grammar: Russian Vocabulary: Russian Learning Sources: Russian The winner is Russian. If you don't plan to live in ukraine, it's better to learn russian, because it's spoken in many countries, where ukrainian only in ukraine.
Pronunciation in ukrainian is very simple, where in russian, you need to hear most words to know exactly how to pronounce them. Grammar is slightly simpler in russian especially падежи but the difference isn't big. Vocabulary in ukrainian is nowhere like other languages in the world, i was scared when i started learning "months" in ukrainian, where in russian it's similar to english. Learning sources, i can't find many sources to practice ukrainian, where russian, there are plenty.
You are delusional. Ukrainian pronunciation is more difficult. I have never heard a foreigner saying "г" and "х" correctly, that's why people couldn't understand them.
@@kullkriss a simple word like молоко is easy to read in ukrainian than russian, for russian you must hear it before otherwise it's barely impossible to guess. And guess what? o is the most dominant letter in russian, and basically most words have an o that you pronounce a, in ukrainian this problem doesn't exist. "г" is pronounced like hi if im not mistaken? why would it be difficult? and "x" is the same in both ukrainian and russian so I don't understand your argument.
@@ZA-we6ii no. There are 3 sounds in Ukrainian:"ґ"(pronunciation like russian(г)), "г", and "х". I have never heard a foreigner pronouncing it right, and people could understand this person, because of the tangible difference between "г" and "х" sound. Which is more than I can say for Russian
In fact I am learning Russian to communicate with more people in more countries .The Ukrainians were always very Happy to help me too .I have a Russian teacher ,a very Good one
L'ukrainien et le russe son comme l'espagnol et le portugais. Similaires mais différents. Un espagnol comprendra le portugais et vice-versa. Comme l'italien et l'espagnol. Langues latines. Ukrainien et russe langues slaves. La grammaire e pareille. C'est mon point de vue. J'apprends les deux.
Considering what happened and even Nika now no longer teaching russian, I think it's pretty obvious what the answer is haha. I also learnt russian but I don't speak it anymore (I didn't forget the language, I'm choosing not to speak it). After seeing what happened in Irpin, in Bucha, Balakliya, Izium and literally everywhere....I don't want to speak that language anymore.💙💛
The language to learn to use in other countries is English, not Russian. Maybe in the future that will change to Chinese. Putin has dealt seriously wounded Russian culture by making all things Russian unacceptable in the civilized parts of the world. That's a shame.
I dont think this particular video has aged all that well. There is clearly only one real answer to this... UKRAINIAN. This idea of "togetherness" was a fallacy, Slava Ukraini!
We speak Russian in Ukraine. We speak English in the u.s. (we have native languages, but we still speak a language of another country, England). When you go to Mexico, will you speak Spanish or Mexican? How about in Brazil? I bet you will find everyone speaking Portuguese and not Brazilian languages Most people around the world learn English rather than Sudanese. Its simple math. Its more useful.
@@camilogyllback7193 By "Mexican", I mean local, tribal languages, just like in the U.S., English is spoken, but American languages exist, such as Navajo, Cherokee etc
*The Russian language is an artificial language, created after 1500. Before 1500 it did not exist. Now Ukrainian definitely! Russian is not taught in Ukraine anymore! Even more! Ukrainian (Rutenian) is the direct descendant of the ancient Eastern Slavic language! Ricardo Pontes Привіт ;) On the streets of Lviv you will hear Ukrainian language. It is a great place to practice Ukrainian 😉 Have a nice trip
My grandmother is dead but she was from lvov/lemberg she married with a Hungarian from kisvarda hungary
And she spoke polish and russian
And she wrote and spoke hoog deutsch
Even though Russian is more widely spoken Ukrainian in my humble opinion is more sweeter to hear and they are both difficult speak.
To become truly Ukrainian, you have to speak Ukrainian to someone who is speaking to you in Russian, and both act like it’s completely normal 😅
