Thanks for all the recommendation guys. I see a lot of people saying put spacers under the shock pistons to lower the car but that's not an option for me as all that will do is remove droop. Without droop it wont handle good and it won't absorb jumps well. It really needs different springs not sure which ones though.
You put nitro tubing in the shock Bobby you need to take the bottom screw on the shaft a slide a about a half an inch of nitro tubing on the end of the shaft and put it back in it will limt the length the shock can come out of the Shock body. I have done it to my rustlers putting mine just about an .5 of in of the ground it was to low for any off roading but the less tubing you add the higher the truck will sit hope this help
If you want to lower the truck, you could use a makeshift spacer inside the shocks. Dark Ecliptic Heart should have a tutorial on how to do that. For the springs, I would also highly recommend swapping the old springs onto the new shocks. The springs that come with the big bore shocks are progressive, and suck. They are way too soft, and you like to air out your trucks so you will want to use something a little stiffer. The old springs should be better for that.
These were my Go to shocks for years, i use to buy the 8 back sold for T/EMaxx. All 8 are the long rear length that come with traxxas 1/10 scale vehicles, the pistons and shafts are the same size as the plastic traxxas shocks, i swapped a set of shorter shafts that come in trx front shx. So long bodys w short shafts in them for my fronts, worked great with the right spring combo. But once u go to the aluminum GTR shocks, they have bigger pistons, bigger shafts, real nice blue silicone bladders, nice bump rubbers. Just an amazing shock for the price. (Jato springs work on the GTRs, jato shocks are a plastic GTR.
To lower the shocks you need to open them up and poor out the oil then take the plastic part off the bottom of the shock rod then pull the rod out and put the plastic disks on the rod that came with the shocks the disks should be on the inside of the shocks then put it all back together
U can also cut the springs down a bit too. Top and bottom pull them apart and cut off just a bit both top and bottom of the spring then use heat to get em tight again.
I really like the way you don't edit the mistakes that are made. This makes for a real genuine channel to enjoy and I don't feel so derped when I'm working on my cars. Cheers kev!! Btw, do they sell a different shock tower for the front of the rustler? It may help with lowering it but your camber may end up being maxed out. Or I'm talking complete jibberish.
Reduce some of the shock oil it will make the shocks not be as stiff so it will sag lower to the ground also make sure each shock has and even amount of oil
Lol how funny brotha I just got a slash 4x4 in a trade n got the same big bore shocks with the trade,I wish I could tell u how the r,but I haven’t got a chance to run mine yet! Kev I guess we will both find out soon, lol! I wanted to say there is a spout for the oil but I see u found it,lol! Also if u move shock positions to the most angled settings top n bottom it will bring ride highth down!
Take the shock shaft out and find some silicone tubing and put them in the inside of the shock shaft then put it back together then you can lower it as low as you want
You should try running a heavier shock oil, soak up those landings better, lol. I use 90wt in my wifes rustler and my sons merv... hardly ever hear any chassis slap anymore.
Kev you need to get an rpm front bumper it will save your hub carriers and caster blocks and absorbs the shock its the best thing i have put on my rustler
The RPM bumper isn’t that great. If it was longer and had 4 screw holes maybe it would be good. But it doesn’t protect the bottom of the bulk head like the Traxxas ones do.
When you said your not the best shock tuner just a basher same here bud im the same way im gettin a traxxas bandit and i have a wish 12$ brushless motor and esc that can do 3s that has a connecter that fits the traxxas batteries
I run the RPM wide Front A_arm kit on my Rustler. with front offset wheels on the rear. i to have those same shocks and it sit lower with the wider stance! hope it helps. 40 wt up front and 60wt rear! cheers!
I use blue KING brand shocks. Anything is better than the stock springs because they're too light for more weight. That's why they have to be changed if you add more weight. I'm sitting at 9.7 lbs after adding upgrades and that's why I switched mine out. Final weight could be 10.5+ when I switch the transmission to metal. They ship them light because it saves on shipping cost at the expense of a better quality product for the consumer. They don't respect us and they don't protect us.
On my stampede 4x4 I put Traxxas gtr shocks from the revo they are blue anodized and have adjustable shocks body’s and I put 20 pound springs they let me jump off the roof and land like a kitten but you have to mod the back because they are the same size shaft as the small front shocks they are a good upgrade for any of Traxxas 1/10 scale cars
Jayce Vessier yes but you will have to do an odd and uncommon mod you will use the shock tower from the front on the rear since the shocks are shorter and I don’t have an experience with the slash 4x4 I have a stampede 4x4 but if you have the mip you will have to fill your camber rods in the front around to a commandment the bigger spring but it’s worth it the shocks are basically indestructible and you can change your ride hight on the fly
Any chance you've tried the GTR shocks for the slash/stampede? I'm running some old Unlimited Engineering t-maxx shocks with the UE shafts in the rear and OFNA front shafts on the front at the moment. Been thinking I'll try the GTR shocks and then run the VDK pistons in them. I just installed a set of revo GTR's with VDK on my e-jato, but haven't run it yet. I think the GTR's for the slash/stampede are the same diameter, just different length than the revo shocks. I did have to drill out the pistons in the vdk set because the largest ones were 1.3 which on my bench would have forced me to use 20wt or less oil. To avoid having an abundance of leaks... I drilled them out to 1.5 and put in 80wt. LOL! Seems to land nice and plush with a 2 foot drop on my bench, but haven't run it yet. I'm using jato blue/pink springs.
I the stock ones suck they pop off easy i bought some aluminum shock caps and hasnt hapend yet. Try to stay the cheap route for now. Also u should have put the aluminum shock caps on those
Well you did say if the shocks broke you would change them and these are very strong but I've Bent them one because I hit a metal pole and that was the only thing that did any thing or you could say broke but it was going 76 mph so it is understandable
Hey Kev I got a rustler and it goes around 55mph with a fairly good (new) 3s lipo, a vxl esc and a 2400kv castle motor but I know it should go faster as I’ve seen people hit incredible speeds with my setup. Gearing isn’t the issue either. Any idea what I can do? It’s almost as if it’s got a limiter on it because it reaches its ‘maxed speed’ at like 70% throttle on the transmitter.
Hey Kevin I had a question and was hoping that you would be able to help me out. I'm looking to buy a new RC car and wasn't sure which to get. My budget is around $200 (cost of car only; batteries and other stuff don't count) and I would be doing more bashing than other stuff. I mostly would want a Traxxis car but would go with another brand if you recommend it. Also it would probably be helpful if the car was water resistant. I'd appreciate it if you could maybe point me in the right direction for this.
Kevin Talbot what i did on my buddy’s was stiffen the spring that solved his problem and kept it low I think that is the only way to do or you could get smaller shocks
any suggestions on front shock tower (the mounting point fot shocks & body posts) upgrade? i've broken 2. also to lower it get shorter shocks in general
The Traxxas gtr shocks have a larger body, which will contain more oil which will give smoother damping, the shock shafts are the same as big bore shocks (the ones you bought). The gtrs also have threaded shock bodies, as you know, are nice. The big bores are still fine, but the gtrs are better. The gtr shocks are the same ones that are on your slash 4x4.
Bigpapi0306 - just google, slash 4x4 ultimate expanded view, and you will find the shocks part numbers, you have to replace the bottom hollow balls of the shocks to fit it in the front a arm.
Thanks for all the recommendation guys. I see a lot of people saying put spacers under the shock pistons to lower the car but that's not an option for me as all that will do is remove droop. That's not an option for me dude, all that will do is limit droop it wont handle well and won't absorb jumps
Kevin Talbot I run integy springs they come with three different stiffnesses about 10$ for 3 sets
You need to fill the shocks with oil
Kevin they come with stock 30 WT.
If you want to lower the ride height more you can put shock travel limiters inside the shocks which will limit its upward travel.
The most instructional part of this video is the moment you put the shocks in the rim for bubbling. And I am serious! Nice move
In the past for my old 2wd stampede, I use to use small black hair rubber bands. Used about 4 to 5 and it would hold it low to the ground 🤷🏽♂️
To lower the shocks you need to open them up and poor out the oil then take the plastic part off the bottom of the shock rod then pull the rod out and put the plastic disks on the rod that came with the shocks the disks should be on the inside of the shocks then put it all back together

Reduce some of the shock oil it will make the shocks not be as stiff so it will sag lower to the ground also make sure each shock has and even amount of oil
Put a piece of fuel line on the shock shaft under the shock piston to lower the ride height.
Very useful as I am getting a traxxas rustler for my birthday in 11 days, thanks kev!
Declan Butler, happy Birthday for in 11 days time!
Lol how funny brotha I just got a slash 4x4 in a trade n got the same big bore shocks with the trade,I wish I could tell u how the r,but I haven’t got a chance to run mine yet! Also if u move shock positions to the most angled settings top n bottom it will bring ride highth down!
I've seen a video of a guy lowering his shocks buy using the hard Ware that is included with shocks
Before the rustler was slammed but now I say wow the old shocks were dirty and that’s how you clean them by buying new ones
Take the shock shaft out and find some silicone tubing and put them in the inside of the shock shaft then put it back together then you can lower it as low as you want
Put fuel tube on the shock shaft under the piston to limit the travel of the shock
You should try running a heavier shock oil, soak up those landings better, lol. I use 90wt in my wifes rustler and my sons merv... hardly ever hear any chassis slap anymore.
Use washers to lower the shocks key. Pull out the shaft from the shock body. Slide washers on re-insert shaft into body use more washers to get lower
You can use limiting travel strap to keep it low!
Ok, if you can’t break something... that says a lot. Good hopes for my new big bore shocks on my slash! Great vids!
Kevin stamp of approval! Lol
Put some spacers behind the piston To stop the shock going to full length just an idea ?
I’ve been watching you since 6k subs, you’ve come a long way
Just got back from vacation so imma watch the others then this
Kev you need to get an rpm front bumper it will save your hub carriers and caster blocks and absorbs the shock its the best thing i have put on my rustler
i would but i dont like the look of it dude
T-bone racing bumpers are a lot better
The RPM bumper isn’t that great. If it was longer and had 4 screw holes maybe it would be good. But it doesn’t protect the bottom of the bulk head like the Traxxas ones do.
If you wanna make the ride higher lower, Shock limiting.. put shock limiters inside the shock on the shaft..
When you said your not the best shock tuner just a basher same here bud im the same way im gettin a traxxas bandit and i have a wish 12$ brushless motor and esc that can do 3s that has a connecter that fits the traxxas batteries
The shocks on the platinum and ultimate slash’s are GTR shocks.
to make it lower get rustler springs with either less coils or more coils
I run the RPM wide Front A_arm kit on my Rustler. with front offset wheels on the rear. i to have those same shocks and it sit lower with the wider stance! hope it helps. 40 wt up front and 60wt rear! cheers!

Integy sells a good spring set for relatively cheap.
How are those pringles on your work bench Kevin lol. Good video thank u.
Maybe you can make an extension to make the shock sit higher off the frame..
Try putting some fuel tube on the shock shaft on the inside and that lowers the car massively
Remove the spacers in the shocks.
Traxxas has got some shorter springs for that
The best channel???
Kiev for the slash 4wd use some ECX shafts. They work greats and fit great. I use them on am my slash’s
These are the shocks I have installing them soon still running a broken shock!!! Haha
Put a front sway bar on it should pull the front down a little.👍
On my stampede 4x4 I put Traxxas gtr shocks from the revo they are blue anodized and have adjustable shocks body’s and I put 20 pound springs they let me jump off the roof and land like a kitten but you have to mod the back because they are the same size shaft as the small front shocks they are a good upgrade for any of Traxxas 1/10 scale cars
ArrowmaticRuby so the shocks off of a revo will work on a slash 4x4? cause I have the shocks he just installed and I can't stand them
Jayce Vessier yes but you will have to do an odd and uncommon mod you will use the shock tower from the front on the rear since the shocks are shorter and I don’t have an experience with the slash 4x4 I have a stampede 4x4 but if you have the mip you will have to fill your camber rods in the front around to a commandment the bigger spring but it’s worth it the shocks are basically indestructible and you can change your ride hight on the fly
U got me into RCing 2 years ago :)
Me 1 year ago
I run 1/4 inch spacers in my shocks and 22.5 shock oil
I read you can reuse the stock springs on the new shocks
Don't feel bad. I'm always skipping steps and over looking things.
Reading the instruction manual helps...
Wow 😲
Not for us men
Good vid and good luck with them
These vids just keep on getting better it’s great , this is y your my favourite RUclips , keep it up kev x
thanks bro :)
U have great car taste :)
(On your backround picture)
You should turn the grub screw on the inner corner of the arm down so the arm gets higher
how do you mean?
Kevin Talbot there should be a small screw on the inner of the arm and you screw it down so it hires the arm
Any chance you've tried the GTR shocks for the slash/stampede? Kevin faz um vídeo mostrando o seu automodelo mas rápido q vc tem faz um top speed....
there should have been another part of that oil bottle in the package.
I the stock ones suck they pop off easy i bought some aluminum shock caps and hasnt hapend yet. Try to stay the cheap route for now. Also u should have put the aluminum shock caps on those
Dude I’ve been watching you since you had 40,000 subs
thanks buddy :)
Cool video Kev
whould you reccomened a rustler over a slash?
Thinking about getting these shocks for rustler an slash 4wd Vxl how do they hold up bashing are GTR any tougher
try to get shorter spring yes, also try ligther oil.
Well you did say if the shocks broke you would change them and these are very strong but I've Bent them one because I hit a metal pole and that was the only thing that did any thing or you could say broke but it was going 76 mph so it is understandable
Well you could by aftermarket shorter springs like integy I guess or some other like VG racing ones but otherwise I don't know
Escape room 2 ad has got to go! I like your wheel shock stand!
Put nitro fuel line in the shock it acts like a limiter
Hey Kev I got a rustler and it goes around 55mph with a fairly good (new) 3s lipo, a vxl esc and a 2400kv castle motor but I know it should go faster as I’ve seen people hit incredible speeds with my setup. Gearing isn’t the issue either.
Any idea what I can do? It’s almost as if it’s got a limiter on it because it reaches its ‘maxed speed’ at like 70% throttle on the transmitter.
no idea without seeing it dude, maybe endpoints need adjusting on radio or ESC
Cut the spring. It works good o mine
Hi Kev, Your AWESOME!
Great vid
Hey Kevin I had a question and was hoping that you would be able to help me out. I'm looking to buy a new RC car and wasn't sure which to get. uhhh.....stampede xl5, comes with a 7cell 3000mah nimh with charger, don’t use the charger it’s trash
Or rustler
2:40
He attac
He defend
But mostly
He eat Pringle
Some nice shocks bro!
I love that rustler
Get the gtr shocks if you wanted down
You can put a little tube in the shock
no droop then dude
Kevin Talbot true
The shocks new shocks that u showed I have that and it doesn’t brake at all
that's good to know :)
Kev your chill:)
And to lower the car put rc nitro fuel lines in on the shock shafts it will lower the ride hight
yeh that will lower it but then theres no droop so it'll handle bad and won't soak up jumps
Kevin Talbot what i did on my buddy’s was stiffen the spring that solved his problem and kept it low I think that is the only way to do or you could get smaller shocks
Hi my friend exelent video. In what country do you live?
any suggestions on front shock tower (the mounting point fot shocks & body posts) upgrade? i've broken 2.
also to lower it get shorter shocks in general
Not sure, do rpm make something?
yeah ive been thinking maybe rpm
Put nitro fuel line inside shock to lower rid height.
Is one oz of oil enough to fill all the shocks
Put those shock caps at the rustler 4x4
Good vid.....ur a good bashers
Should have bought Gtr shocks for the rustler
how come?
Amistry20 what is the part number for the GTR SHOCKS
The Traxxas gtr shocks have a larger body, which will contain more oil which will give smoother damping, the shock shafts are the same as big bore shocks (the ones you bought). The gtrs also have threaded shock bodies, as you know, are nice. The big bores are still fine, but the gtrs are better. The gtr shocks are the same ones that are on your slash 4x4.
Bigpapi0306 - just google, slash 4x4 ultimate expanded view, and you will find the shocks part numbers, you have to replace the bottom hollow balls of the shocks to fit it in the front a arm.
The shock oil comes with a nozzle but i think you lost it
Put the shock caps on the rustler 4x4
Shocking video ;)
Who else was screaming "KEV THEY ARENT FILLED" when he was putting them on?
Decent!
You crack me up Kevin😂
You have to put oil in them
hi love your vids could you do a costume body for the x maxx. :)
I dont spend much time on bodys as they never last me long anyway lol
Did you get a xo1
Nice fidget spinner
Use your stock springs...
they were also too high
Does anyone know some good plastic driveshaft for a rustler vxl? Mabye some slash 4x4 shafts? I'm on a very tight budget.
na man no idea
Shocked! 😆😂👍
Zip ties or a little belt
What motor is in thsi please
Nice
so cool
The new shock caps on the rock and roll traxxas vehicles are different they aren't flexible
First giveaway please
