JBL 066 tweeter: Can it be rebuilt?, The Sequel: Yes!

Despite the malfunctions of my vintage 1988 sweep function generator...comedy relief is always fun, snort, snort...This rebuild of the JBL 066 tweeter turned out to be quite successful. Some tweaks had to be discovered in order to make it work, but the diaphragm is quite electrically compatible with the crossover networks/loudspeaker systems in which the 066 tweeter is used. It's critical to keep these tweeters working, since factory parts are no longer available. This diaphragm is also compatible with the JBL 033, 034, and 044. At least two hours labor is required for each repair. This particular pair had one that required removal of the top plate of the motor to extract a voice coil that separated from the previous diaphragm. An hour's worth of trying to pick out the old voice coil resulted in the disassembly of the motor. Sometimes it just takes extreme measures...as well as experience and know-how... to make things right.
BTW...Customer "L.S." is in Wisconsin, as they say, "Behind the Cheddar Curtain". A little Cheese Head humor...lol.

Ken did a great job on my JBL 066 Dome Tweeters. I reinstalled them in my speaker enclosure and they are looking great and working fine. Lee
