Many years ago it was decided that I would be a cabinet maker. This was a creative outlet but it didn’t make me happy. All my life and I mean all of the life that I can remember I loved to draw and paint. I made furniture, but I was never quite good enough. And I was always unhappy it came to a point where I could have died. But I didn’t and I made a decision to become a painter and go to university. It took me almost 10 years but I did it and my whole life changed. Now I’m a lecturer in the university Teaching painting and drawing and photography in Kazakhstan and I met my wife in India. This would not have happened if I had not made the decision to change. It was not always easy, but I always knew it was the right decision and nothing was going to stop me.

I think your interpretation of ‘the alchemist’ is wonderful. My young adult children and I adore this book and have shared thoughts on it as well as the quotes from the book. Reading the book has resulted in my son to travel and work in Australia this year and took the alchemist in his back pack 😊 so it really has had an amazing impact on my family ❤ Well done to your dad on walking the Camino, what an achievement 🎉

I remember reading this book in my early 20s. I was away from home on an exchange program in the Netherlands living with a host family. I was a bit homesick but mainly, also lost a bit with my life unsure of myself, what to do or be in my life, in a different country…. The book was on a bedside table and I spent the entire night reading it. And crying. Lots of tears. It was brilliant and thought it just came at the right time at the right place. When I read it again many years later, it didn’t have the same impact. By then I may have changed as a person. I believe some books come into our lives at the right time. It had its time for me in my early 20s.

I was thinking of some books i could read over the Christmas break and an inner voice said repeatedly, " How about the Alchemist"? And I came across this video. It made me think what are the odds i think about reading this book and the universe reinforced the message via this video posted 18 hours ago though the book was published many years ago . 😮

I LOVE The Alchemist and re-read it every year to remind me of the messages. Weirdly, I was given it by my now partner. It had been on his book shelf for years but had never read it. This was after I listened to my heart and left a long term relationship. At the time I was worried if I had done the right thing, even though it felt right I had many people criticise my decision. Receiving this book from my partner was like a sign that I was right to follow my heart. I am now in a deeply loving relationship. Ps. I love getting deep Laura so I’m here for any deep videos ✨🙌
Also - if you enjoyed this I would highly recommend Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert ✨💗

I think you’d be surprised by how much self development potential there is in reading fiction and literature.
It is said to increase empathy and emotional maturity. I’ve found having a healthy dose of prose helps me articulate thoughts in everyday life.

i was always told i'd be a failure, so, since i was a little kid, i ignored what others said and followed my heart. i now have the career of my dreams and the home of my dreams. and i'm in the process of birthing my next creation--ho, boy, are the challenges coming thick and fast!!--but i don't care! i don't care when or how or how long it takes to launch...all i know is that it *will* launch and that its timing will be perfect. 🌟
meanwhile, a nice man i know manifested the woman of his dreams and then ran for the hills when she actually showed up in his life! she was attracted to him at first, too, but i'm watching her grow more restless, bored, and doubtful of him by the day. will he listen to the omens and cash in on his destiny before she throws in the towel and walks? only time will tell!

I think if someone has a strong pull to do something, they should definitely try to make it happen. The thing is, I believe that most people do not have that strong pull. I think a lot of it is about how children are brought up and what they are exposed to. There are many people I know that the 'idea' of destiny, has kind of held them back, because they wait for this inspiration or passion to come to them and it never does. Waawaa...

Oh no, LT, you've spent years being fairly scientific about your self-development, and that's why I follow your videos. (I finally watched the magic truffle vid this morning and loved it.) But now you're suddenly ruining it with this hippy mumbo jumbo. 😟
The idea of an interventionist god (destiny, the universe "wants") is not compatible with your regular theme of creating your own reality. It's your reality, not created for you by some higher power.
The universe doesn't care about you, and that's OK. Go walk the Camino, do what works for you, that's great, big respect to your dad. Don't let the world tell you what to do, the world doesn't care.
Also, what about the graveyard? For every hero there is a field full of people who didn't survive the war. For every inspiring success story there is a hundred people who followed their heart and started a business that failed. Or married the wrong person. Or chased an opportunity but inadvertantly missed another one as a result. Which of those opportunities was the right one? Nobody knows until afterwards and the final answer always depends on a million variables.
May I suggest you read The Black Swan by Nassim Taleb? It's all about managing your luck so that you have more good things happen to you and minimise the impact of bad things. It was published shortly before, and correctly predicted, the financial crisis of 2008 but it's not about money. It's about how to survive and thrive in an indifferent and random universe and how to be true to yourself.

    • @LauraTryUK
