Gears started with focus on pure action with the war against the locust, then grew into emotional horror with Gears 2 and 3, learning more about the locust practices, loss of characters, etc. Yett rarely do we get glimpses about the horrors of humanity itself in the games. Learning Sofia was basically human trafficked has got to be one of the darkest concepts I never took the time to connect to Gears, but it makes sense in a world like that, lawlessness runs DEEP and human trafficking, along with other atrocities, run more rampant than we are allowed to percieve. And this is aside from the breeding programs which at least STARTED with volunteer consent.
