@mentour pilot You are such an amazing speaker and storyteller. You shouldn't limit yourself to aviation enthusiasts. A lot of your talks apply to any trusted advisor/professional who deals with customers.
I was a passenger on a flight from Thailand to London back in 1991 when the captain asked if there was a doctor on board. The decision had to be made to divert to Frankfurt or continue. I was suddenly made responsible for a whole aircraft full of people with a potential diversion as well as a sick patient. After assessing the patient we continued to London and he made a nice recovery. I was supposed to be on holiday :D
Hi!! I'm just starting flying or my private pilot license, my intent is to get the ATPL sometime. I would love to watch a video explaining how to deal with emergencies on board and be mentally prepared to not go in "panic mode". Thank you! Awesome videos, very useful.
Hi! Could you possibly make a video on fuel monitoring procedures and unplanned fuel consumptions during flight and how pilots deal with it?(e.g. stronger than expected headwinds and so on...). And again great explanation as always!
Awesome video, as usual! Could you continue with the the fuel topic and perhaps make a vid about cost index, fuel economy and tankering? It's hard to find information about this. That would be much appreciated!!!
Love all your videos, very helpful for me and a good insight for someone like me who will hopefully soon be starting an ATPL course. I was wondering if you would make a video explaining what your current lifestyle is like what sort of hours and shift patterns do you work and how you deal with it, I think it would be really interesting to hear
Last week I was flying from London to Istanbul. A passenger had a heart attack and fortunately there was a doctor on board. The doctor reccomended that the patient needed to be hospitalised. The plane (Boeing 777-300ER) had to divert and landed to Budapest airport. The patient was disembarked. We had to wait nearly two hours for extra fuel and a new flight plan. After that we took of and landed to Istanbul two hours later than our scheduled arrival. Yes it was boring for passengers to wait on the ground yet the crew was fantastic as they kept passengers like me with unending rounds of beer :)
Hey mentour pilot, awesome video! Could you do a video on what a skills assessment for a commercial pilot consists of? I'm applying to be a cadet in many airlines and this is one of the tests I must take to show I am a worthy candidate.
Back in late January 2020 I was a passenger on a flight from Binghamton, NY (BGM) to Detroit (DTW). The captain and the stewardess told us that due to a problem with the deicer they were diverting the fight to Burlington, VT (BTV). Burlington was the nearest airport with no cloud cover that would produce ice. All the airports that they looked into in the Midwest were cloudy. How serious of a situation was that? I'm wondering if airports in the South or Canada could have been options too if they had enough fuel.
Hi Mentour, training related question; Sometimes I cant help but feel like Im going to screw up and make a big mistake on the next flight, and the actualization of said worries often happen. I go home feeling like shit and the cycle repeats. I know I can perform well because when I feel great there are streaks of excellent flights with fantastic performance, how do I avoid hypnotizing myself into a worry frenzy?
I recently watched a video of you on the website of the airline you work for. I always wanted to fly for them but I'm wondering if you would prefer if there was a possibility to fly long haul in the future. it was a great video like all the ones on this channel.
This is exactly why dispatchers share responsibilities with the pilot in command in the US, to make sure they have somebody on the ground coordinating and looking for better plans, checking wx real-time and helping to calculate figures.
Hi Peter. I'm 36 always wanted to get in to industry but unfortunately life events changed my plans. I still want to get in to industry as a pilot always thought about that. I know that to become airline pilot is expensive and long journey. what would you recomend to become a pilot and earn money. eg helicopter pilot or smaller aircraft pilot. I'm in UK and looking for your thoughts and advice. Thanks Luk
Great video as always Mentour! I have a question. Let us suppose that I'm the F/O and in my opinion the captain is making a huge mistake during an IFR approach. Like, I think we are going right into a mountain instead of the runway. I have done everything to persuade him or her but the captain snaps at me and insists on his or her decision and we are seconds away from a collision (that's what I think). What do I do to take over the controls? Should I just ask? ... Or should I punch him in the face to take it over unless the captain agrees to give it to me?:)) I'm always curious about this process. Hope you answer this question. Because this scenerio is almost always asked by interviewers of airlines which are recruiting 'pilots to be trained'. Thank you in advance!
Yet to do my MCC course so I don't know this for sure, but I believe it to be something like this. The F/O would voice his concern, discuss with the Captain what he perceives and why. If there is still disagreement, then the F/O could voice 'Go Around'. When either pilot commands this - regardless of whoever is the pilot flying - the pilot flying should execute the go around without further discussion. The discussion can then take place later, at a less critical stage.
What is the procedure in case of total communications loss ? In a light aircraft you could divert to an airfield with no mandatory radio contact, but this is probably not an option for an airliner ?
hello mentour! what about the expense if you have to hold for a long period of time an unexpected diverted location? i mean you have hold with a 150 passengers on board. how do the caption and is crew manage a financial solution?
Would you set out on a flight knowing that you will have to do a cat III ILS or is it a last resort if you get to your destination and the weather has changed since you departed?
Hello mentour. Great video, however I have some questions. Regarding airlines sending their passengers to their destination by bus after diversion, are there further compensation that is needed? I understand the crew will likely not have time or resources to calculate the commercial side of things. And lastly, aside from closing into duty period limitations, I believe most flights are turn around flights for budget carriers like ryan air. So wouldn't it make sense to fly to your destination after diversion provided that it is available. Because you need to carry your passengers back for the turn around flight anyway. So many Considerations!
+Mentour Pilot interesting. So many considerations. I've heard in some airlines like Qatar all the diversion decisions are immediately advised to the crew via any contact. I can't imagine how it's like in older days where pilots are very limited in information technology. acars for one
+Mentour Pilot another thing, does your company issue intams or circulars regarding your destinations and alternates detailing the sort of ground support, facilities it has? I imagine as a tre you are more knowledgeable about your company's operations. But are the line pilots required to know all these detailed aerodrome information?
How do you reach your company? I guess you don't always have direct radio contact, imagine you are 3000km away from your headquarters. What do you do then?
can you do a video on the flydubai crash in Russia especially somatogravic illusions which was outlined as a main cause in the preliminary report. Also can you continue below visibility minimums if you are doing a cat 3 autoland?
***** That's fine if there are legal reasons i'm just particularly interested in the human limitations side of aviation as I will be writing a paper on it next year. Anything similar to somatogravic illusions that affects pilot performance would be awesome!
+Mentour Pilot Im still a secondary student...inspired to be a pilot. But I have to study hard to get my O level cert as SIA said I will need to 5 O level credits to be a cadet pilot
What happens if the weather at your alternates are also poor and below safe landings minimums? (given that the alternates are also near the original airport and the area of bad weather is very large) What will you do?
Square windowshapes were banned due to the De Havilland Comet diasters ,in the fifties, due to introduction of the pressuered air cabins needed for new hights of flying. Jet age. Why are the glazing of cockpit windows still made with rectangulare corners ? Kan du svare på det Peter.? mvh Thomas Meyer Son Norway. (Great fan of your videoes.)

Great video mentor....
Do pilots have given holidays .... of how many days.....
And can pilots take extra holidays from airline....😅😅😅

Interesting since I saw so many planes diverting to Manchester with original dest. as EGLL on flightradar24
It was a while back.

Nice nice nice very nice expln
Hi Mentour, when a pilot works on a short/medium haul, does he have a determinated line or he change destinations and flights each rotation?
How about discussing instant landing at the nearest airport for medical emergency. The procedures and permissions required to so. Thanks
Thank You

Hey mentour! I have a question; how often do you guys change your altimeter setting in your aircraft? Great video Btw!
That helps alot! Thank you!
Good 2 know :) Thanks!
Happy landings
Do you need a passport to travel to other countries if you are a pilot
hi
which is the best aviation collage and from where did u do ur aviation course
How do you reach your company? I guess you don't always have direct radio contact, imagine you are 3000km away from your headquarters. What do you do then?

Hey, mentour I have a question.
What's the difference between PPL and ATPL?
How to get a ATPL.
+Mentour Pilot Im still a secondary student...inspired to be a pilot. But I have to study hard to get my O level cert as SIA said I will need to 5 O level credits to be a cadet pilot
What is the typical altitude one flies at to the alternate ?
What happens if the weather at your alternates are also poor and below safe landings minimums? (given that the alternates are also near the original airport and the area of bad weather is very large) What will you do?
+Mentour Pilot thank you sir!
Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!! Awesome !!!!
I know this is off topic, but if you're watching the euros, what team are you cheering for? GO SPAIN!!!
Thanks for another great podcast Mentour! Also can you explain earthing an aircraft prior to re-fueling? Thanks, Aaron
Do you have to be rich to study for being a pilot?
Oke THANKS!!!
I read this as: "Aircraft Divisions", and I thought: "When did Petter join the army?"
How often do you get called when you are on standby
+Mentour Pilot So you have to stay close to the airport. And you cant go on holiday
