Everybody is on medication today. It makes the doctors a lot of money but it doesn't mean he's not responsible for his actiions. If he usn't responsible for his actions put him in a prison for the criminally insane.

If they didn't make every effort to defend their client, the client could claim inadequate representation and get the case tossed. Seems that is what you want.
People blaming parents. Has nobody seen the video online of a mother begging for the "justice system" to do something about her car stealing teen son? He steals cars multiple times, and every time, the police just bring him home. That teaches a lesson. It sounds like this case is similar in that manner.
And if the system raises these kids, some activists will claim slavery.

The chances that a well behaved / raised kid is suddenly going to steal multiple cars over a long period of time is about zero. Parenting starts at day one and not years later when they are unfixable.
