Tour of New England, east coast USA, New England has 5 States, one stage per state, do it the weekend before the Canadian races, fall in New England is amazing
I would like to see a fourth Grand Tour... and this in the States.... I'm sure that some magnificent Grand Tours can be organized and it would for sure boost the sport of cycling in the North America.

Stage 1: new haven to plymouth, crossing jamestown and newport bridge
Stage 2: Providence to brattleboro thru worcester.
Stage 3: Lebanon, NH to Burlington VT thru the Lincoln gap, steepest paved mile in the US(7ks @ 4.5%, max up to 24%!!)
Stage 4: Queen stage: Stowe to Mt Washington Auto Road(12ks@12%)
Stage 5: Roleur stage in main
Stage 6: Portland to technical sprint finish into boston
Ive spent too much time planning this route lol, maybe time to finish that project and post the profiles

uno x was originally a dev team i believe. they were literally called “uno x development team” when at conti level. then they became pro, changed the name to uno x pro and a couple years later created their own development team. fantastic work from them in the past years btw, breeding wonderful talents. keep up
I reckon Colorado is the best chance for an American race has mountains, and could actively be a good location for cycling tourism
Colorado can hardly organize and maintain local races. Too bad, because it has some killing climbs - there was a Tour of Colorado back in the days though. AZ and NM are the only ones with some decent stage races (Valley of the Sun, Tucson and Tour of the Gila)
re: Victor Lafay, he said in an interview with Le Progres that he has a knee injury that will keep him out until June

Benji's take that maybe Vollering is better in a team focused around her was called an extreme take. Those Belgian cycling podcasts are weird, most of the time they're just a circlejerk.
A UCI stage race here in the US would be awesome. Interesting to ponder which state could benefit from the extra tourism.

West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana combined would be a good week tour. A great variety of climbs and sprints.
Tour of California was great while it lasted. We used to come out and watch every year.

Re American Stage Races. In Fayetteville, Northwest Arkansas, just down the road from Bentonville( The Mtn Bike Capital of The World", we just had the Joe Martin Stage Race, the oldest in the country, canceled. Three days of road racing in the Ozarks, An uphill TT in Devil's Den Park, and a downtown crit in Fayetteville. 45 years old, and this year it was canceled because of lack of sponsorship... GCN sent a crew here in '21 to highlight the race, but now it's gone. Meanwhile, Big Sugar is part of the Lifetime Gravel Series, and Centennial Park, home of the '22 Cyclocross World Championships) is hosting World Cup Mtn Biking events. Downtown Springdale is holding a crit series throughout the summer, but strictly at an armature level. Road racing is truly dead here in the states.

the whole thing with Vollering is baffling to me, the fact that they would let her go like this (especially with the justification that she apparently didn't respond to the offer fast enough or whatever it was) while she's genuinely the most versatile rider in the women's peloton and the defending TDF champion .. just can't wrap my head around it. Not to mention, as you guys said, that she contributes massively to Kopecky's success. Just her presence will immediately disrupt a chase.

People tend to forget that Thomas was probably one of the biggest talents in cycling of his time.
With women's cycling booming now, Vollering leaving SD Worx would be beneficial for the sport. It will result in a more competitive and entertaining product with the stars on separate teams. BUT, it's a head scratcher that SD Worx would choose to keep Kopecky; the classics dominator instead of Vollering, who is currently on top of the GC mountain. With the Tour de France being the biggest draw and highest earning title in the sport, you'd think Vollering would be a safer bet for the team's popularity and financial growth. Also SD Worx is Dutch and so is Vollering, which matters a fair bit for sponsors. All the same, it's not like choosing Kopecky is bad, she's the other biggest star.
Although SD Worx is a Dutch team, the sponsor is a Belgian company based in Antwerp. So choosing Kopecky over Vollering is not that strange at all! That's why by giving Lotte a 4y contract, they cemented their relation for the nearby future! They probably couldn't keep them financially both, so they made a choice, and for them, Lotte, as the poster girl in a crazy cycling mad nation that Belgium is, was more of a priority than Demi!

Perhaps you could highlight now terrible Discovery Plus's highlights packages are at some point. For one, they have regular add breaks that you can just skip so they are pointless but very annoying and the editing is also terrible. The highlights for Amstel began with 80kms to go and they showed the morning interview with Pidcock - then after the pointless add break it skips forward to 22kms to go, misses the key move, and shows a small group with Pidcock in it... so there was no suspense.
I think they just take the Eurosport hour show that’s on in an evening and just throw it on there as highlights.
Put me in charge and the Pittsburgh Cycling Classic will be a banger like the MCC
With some of the crazy steep climbs in Pitt that could be a crazy 1-day race. Combine that with some other New England based stages and you would have a great 4 or 5 day race.
On tourism boards, even in Michigan small town host 1 day gravel race in the middle of no where. Barry Roubaix for example has 5000 riders. The local residents don’t love, the roads don’t even fully closed and locals are annoyed for the several hour interruption. The US just hates road closures.
Lapierre already left FDJ Groupama. They're still with FDJ Suez, which is weird, so it wouldn't be surprising if it would end next year.

- Good Koen Bouwman is going to the Giro after all. He was very publicly angry about not being selected at first and Bouwman is not a troublemaker. I still think he will leave Visma. He wasn't selected for the Basque Country either and Visma didn't even ride Brabantse Pijl, which should suit him.
- Maybe there is an unfortunate culture war aspect to US bike racing not taking opportunities, especially in places like Montana or the Appalachian states? You often hear horror stories about cyclist being run off the road or being put in exhaust fumes on purpose in some places in the USA. Let's hope that at least for the 2028 Olympics there is a good race over some iconic roads in the Hollywood Hills and that maybe it will be such a success, it sticks.
- The men's team Groupama-FDJ is currently riding on Wilier bikes, but FDJ-Suez still uses LaPierre.
Unless I missed it you didn't mention that Alaphilippe also had a collapsed and punctured lung from his LBL crash. We are seeing now how concerning that same injury has been and perhaps will continue to be for Jonas.
Not sure Cille want to play second fiddle to Vollering in TDFF, a race she dream of winning herself.

The more i think about aliphilip need to transfer to bora i watched and anylayzed many teams it looks like bora suits him so much if they offer him.... quick step consumed his soul he needs a freedom he needs a team that can meke hime himself and give us the old aliphilip....but hey which team should aliphilip should move in 2025?

Fem van Empel will be there. Vollering looks strong but seems to have lost a bit of her punch. But she has also wasted a lot of energy in races before the final, she should at the least be close to the win in this one. Let’s hope that Kasia can take advantage of a less punchy Vollering here.

Catastrphic injury, yes. For general overuse injuries, running is worse. Lots of peeps come into the sport as former runners.
And yet you never hear about any of the cyclocross riders who also run for training having any injuries. If you ignore pains while running or increase load too quickly, then yeah, you can injure yourself. But I think saying don't run because it increase your injury risk is silly.
LR confusing me with his statement that he’d rather be on Jayco than EF while wearing an American Flag t-shirt and pondering how there can be a stage race in the US leading up to the Canadian classics.
I say bring on the Tour of New England: flat sprinty stages along the coast of Connecticut, hilly stages in the Berkshires of Massachusetts culminating in Tanglewood, a popular summer music festival venue.

@benji why do you think it makes no sense for SD to offer Kopecky and Vollering similar financial terms? I can't see Vollering having more commercial value for them. The team has a Belgian main sponsor, she wins a lot, and even in The Netherlands women grand tours don't grab the big headlines, classics are bigger in women cycling I'd say. So for me, prioritizing Kopecky makes perfect sense from a business perspective.
Do FDJ share their budget between mens and womens teams? Wondering if this is why they didn’t sign Martinez or Pithie

In Holland Johan Derksen from a TV station is pressured to apologize on some arguably racist comments in a Dutch talkshow. However he does not appologize, because he states he did not intend his words in any discriminating way or mal intent. Using this definition, Lefevres statement that he is sorry to hear people feel hurt through his words, are no apology. If you don't apologize for what you said or did or failed to do or say, you are not apologizing.
Your question on "what if Patrick Lefevere did this while working for a normal corporation?"....he would have been fired immediately (a long time ago). Lefevere represents the old-guard misogynist part of cycling that needs to be purged from the leadership positions in the sport.
It's normal that Kopecky rode for her own GC on the Tourmalet; now they are 1 and 2, otherwise not. Don't care with how much minutes Vollering wins GC.
American UCI Stage Races are going extinct, and nobody has the kind of money required to get the big teams to come over.
I live in the USA and raced mostly in the 1990’s. Unfortunately road racing is pretty much dead here and the chances of there being a world class stage race here in the near future is next to nil. The biggest problem is the car culture, and a lot of people here are extremely hostile to cyclists. Closing large swaths of roadway for such an event would be something that would be protested against buy the crowd that embraces big pickup trucks (often with trump flags on them). NCL was somewhat of a workable idea but very poorly executed because crits take less space, and I think was an attempt to cater to the short attention span and the need for a non-complex format that Americans might be able to digest. Is the sad truth here.
Is the Vollering transfer really a surprise? Pretty obvious that SDWorx was on team Lotta lately.

but the fact still remains; vollering didn't just win TDF. she practically was the unofficial vuelta winner. she won the triple ardennes classics (AGR, Fleche, LBL), flemish classics (dwars door) spring classics (strade) and multiple WT stage races (burgos, romandie). all in a single calendar and she's a year younger.
personally i dislike vollering. but i'm not talking abt subjective opinion. i'm talking about "value". which is how teams/sponsor view them. after all, we didn't hear UAE throwing kopecky a million dollar contract offer, did we? why is that?

I must be really missing something on Demi…from watching her race and some interactions she seems like a nice person and I understand she is hard working and an absolute beast…she is the best female cyclist in the world…what am I missing?
vollering is a snake. sdworx practically made her. and now she's dodging contract extension deals and negotiating lucrative offer with other teams, which means sdworx won't make a penny out of it.
vollering's best results this season is finishing 2nd and 3rd. by this time last year she had already won 3 races and podiumed in another 2. clearly, sdworx feels screwed over and apparently vollering isn't receiving the race winning magic bidons anymore. and now, UAE have retracted their 1 million contract offer. FDJ being the village idiot (like always) are giving vollering a way out. fyi, FDJ are french team, so they have strict "regulations". so dnt be surprised if vollering "can't find her form" next season.
