Yes,right…when I listened to „and then there were none” I was like “ how does he not get these characters mixed up”? It’s aweseome. One (very minor) nitpick though: there’s not that much variety of “voices”for the female characters (from the audiobooks I’ve listened to so far, at least

Griffin -- Over the years, I must have watched countless interviews with Dan Stevens, but this interview is the best of them all. Because of your passion and intelligence on the subject involved, your approach brings out the best -- Dan's intelligence and likeability. I've been a fan of Dan Stevens for a long, long time, since his very first feature film (in the BBC 3-part mini-series, "The Line of Beauty") up to now in "Eurovision". When I first saw 23-year-old Dan in Line of Beauty, I knew he was going to be an actor to watch. As everything Dan does, his high intellect and compassionate nature shine through every performance. I was particularly blown away by his star turn in "Hilde" (2009), where his fluent German was flawless. It was his work on Line of Beauty, the BBC re-make of Sense & Sensibility (2008) and Hilde that were the precursors for Downton Abbey. As a huge fan of DA, I was mortified when Matthew Crawley was killed off at the end of Season 3, as his interpretation of the character had such an overwhelming appeal, that even though he was absent the last three seasons, his "presence" was always felt.
What I admire most about Dan is his unquenchable thirst for creativity, which has resulted in great diversity. To go from Matthew Crawley to Broadway (The Heiress with Jessica Chastain and David Straithorn), to A Walk Among the Tombstones, to Colossal, to his highly acclaimed turn in The Guest, to The Man Who Invented Christmas to Beauty & the Beast, well, amazing. And there is no doubt, whatsoever, that Dan stole every scene he was that he was in Eurovision. Hilarious, and yet he played it with the underlying sadness that he could never be happy in Russian because of his LGBTQ status. And although the song sounded great, it would have been wonderful had Dan actually sung it. Of course, he was supposed to sing it himself but due to COVID it had to be done this way, which kind of bummed Dan out. If you really want to listen to Dan's singing voice, I urge you to seek the un-edited version of "Evermore", a song that was written expressly for him by legendary Disney songwriter, alan Mencken. For the film, his voice was embellished electronically to sound more "beastly", but there are versions without all the add-ons. His true singing voice is spectacular -- hardly surprising considering his insanely gorgeous speaking voice. While not a singer, per se, he has so much talent he knows what must be done and Evermore is Dan Stevens at his very best. Looking forward to seeing The Rental which is next out for Dan, but I am really, really looking forward to seeing the big one for him this year -- "Blithe Spirit", with Judi Dench which is coming out Christmastime. And now that he recently signed with powerhouse CAA, I am sure high quality scripts will be coming his way. With his enormous talent, there is no question that an Oscar in his future.
Again, Griffin, thank you so much for this interview -- for sure, I will be following filmspeak from now!

I 💓 Dan Stevens. Been a huge fan since Downton Abbey but I absolutely loved The Guest. He looked incredible and he was totally believable as an action star; such a completely different character from Matthew Crawley. I never would have guessed he could pull off sinister, and sinister with charisma! He seemed to be really having fun with the role too.

Just rewatched this fabulous interview again two years later. The interviewer is one of the best who asked great questions that teased out so many facets of this brilliant, multi talented actor - Dan Stevens. He has done so much research to cover all of the amazing aspects about Dan the Man. There is great rapport between them as well that makes the conversation endearing. Never get tired of Dan talking about his approach to book narrations. No one can do it as well as Dan does (as we witnessed in Ever Winter which won Dan the Voice Award recently).

I LIPREAD, What I find facinating is watching his lips change with the accents he does. Plus, I wasnt always hard of hearing, so I know accents and remember them. I CAN imagine those accents as I see them. Sometimes, with my hearing aids in and volume alway turned up I CAN hear him. But unless I see his lips too, I cant understand what he says. Actors are always more animated in they're facial expressions anyway. But Dan's eyebrows are very expressive. THAT makes his character's more real to me. As, I can still speak well, commicate well, and come from a large family of hearing people. I can inderstand both the hearing and the Deaf.

I first came across Dan Stevens in watching 'Downton Abbey', and I was soon captivated with Mathew Crowley. The second encounter was the 'Guest'. I loved the film. After that I craved for his performance and watched the films 'Criminal Activities,' which I liked and 'A Walk Among the Tombstones,' which somehow didn't make much impression on me. Anyway, I recently watched 'Eurovision Song Contest: the Story of Fire Saga' on Netflix and I really loved his Lemtov character - Dan Stevens made the film work. The next day I went on to watch 'The Beauty and the Beast' and I liked it too, and I am now looking forward to watching 'The Man Who Invented Christmas' and 'Legion'. I must say your interview is well prepared. Thank you, please keep it up.

dasaga -- being a fan of Dan's, I highly recommend two movies he did in the beginning of his career, "The Line of Beauty" (BBC 3-part mini-series) and "Hilde" a German film with English subtitles. Dan speaks fluent French and German, but he is so believable in Hilde, the German film critics and interviewers were shocked that he wasn't German!!

That was an excellent interview! Your questions are thoughtful and insightful. I learned a lot about him that I've never heard before. Your pace and phrasing is great-- the conversation comes across natural and not at all stilted. I look forward to discovering more of your wonderful interviews on your channel.
I hadn't realized Dan Stevens was in so many things I had seen. Though thinking over those roles, I'd still go with Legion as my favourite. His range of showing David's vulnerability, intensity, desperation, struggle, and actual ecstasy of being free and being able to use his powers is astounding. The scene where he sings (lipsyncs?) Behind Blue Eyes and fights the Shadow King is absolutely breathtaking. Will have to check out his pieces on the junket-- very cool to learn about that.

I'd really love to see him Co-star with Karen Gillian. One scene in Call of the Wild was not enough. Karen should get her own show too. There is a book called Maggie Needs and Alibi. Maggie (I would cast Karen Gillian) is a writer who's characters come to life from her book, who are the equivalent to Sherlock Holmes and Watson, Viscount St. Just (Dan Stevens) and his sidekick Sterling, (James Corden maybe?) assist Maggie when she is accused of murder. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO HAPPEN!

In terms of “word count”, the interviewer definitely (and appropriately) let Dan Stevens speak at least 90% of the time. To make it a good interview (which this is), the interviewer definitely needs to ask informed, well researched questions, as well as open ended questions. This interview accomplished that and was well balanced.
