Very cool. I love sailing and tall ships are just fabulous.
Great idea to use your fire steel loop for a Marlin spike. I've seen sailors' knives paired with a Marlin spike, makes sense.

I know sog makes a seal pup knife specially for saltwater. It has a matte silver finish to compared to the darker color of the regular ones. Or you can get the marlin spike knife combo that they issue to navy sailors. Just saying.

If you had put some mink oil and pine tar in the snow seal, then it would be a little more waterproof and smelled more like an old wooden ship.
I've got a Myerchin A200 Offshore Rigger fixed blade with marlinspike. Also an old Camillus 697 Marlinspike folder and the nearly identical Buck 315 Yachtsman (made by Camillus for Buck).

BTW, my sister-in-law sailed the Gazella for a spell. Loved it!

@@jack_batterson actually yes, I've circumnavigated the series 20 times probably. My favorite series ever. Surprisingly I've hardly ever met a sailor who's read the series. I've sailed a good portion of the American coast with hundreds of sailors and only met two who have read the series.

      @@sharpends4279 Too funny!
I've read them twice. But there's always tomorrow....

Most sailing knives have no point on tip.

Yeah, that's what people say, but my experience has been that I rarely, if ever, meet a sailor with a knife with no tip. Having said that, I just bought an Overland Sport that might be a lot better as a climbing knife.
