Whatever your opinions on console vs PC, the dev team for rise of the tomb raider did a phenomenal job with regards to optimising it for the 360 hardware. Like really, it was a 10 year old piece of hardware at the time of release, and the game looked really nice AND played at a solid 30.
+Tomfissh It's not hard to do with no background tasks. For example, I require around a gigabyte of RAM for running Chrome by itself on a second monitor. The 360 has the advantage of a low-power operating system with little to no multitasking.

+Dean Roberts With these older OEM computers, and GHG likes to use DELL machines a lot, they come with a Windows COA sticker. For the Core 2 Duo, it could have been Vista, or maybe even Windows 7 licence, it's hard to tell. And if it has Windows 7 COA, you can install Windows 10 for free I think. It's just if the PC is too old and comes with XP, then you are stuck.
+Grant Fitzsimmons I imagine he does not smoke at all, he just buys smokes for his computers, I wonder what would the dude who sells him cigarettes would think if he saw this vid

Aaron Harris Probably because PCPartsPicker tries to find dealers rather then using auction site like eBay, maybe? Anyways, if your looking for a Core2Quad, try finding the Xeon counterpart, even if it means doing a LGA771 to 775 mod. It'll save you money and the Xeon chips are essentially just better binned C2Q grabbed off the line for server work. For example, Xeon X3220 = C2Q Q6600, but cost several dollars cheaper on most all auction sites.

The Xbox 360 will be the only console who's users aren't console peasants. But that's my opinion, I'm a pc player myself, but at one point I did use 360
We all used an Xbox 360 at one point. I will never forget the long nights I spent racing in Forza 4 and Horizon, two of the greatest games of all time and only on the Xbox 360. I'm a PC gamer now too, but you can't deny the 360 is one of the greatest gaming machines of all time.
The main issue with the PC is that the RAM is only 2 GB. If the budget was extended to $110, I am sure that an extra 2 or 4 GB could be squeezed in, which would help a lot with performance.
+plmkoo's Stoodiosss Yes, after I saw this video, I searched for cheap PC parts on ebay and I found an E8400, 2GB RAM, a overclocked GTX 460 and a better case for overall 99€.
***** I'm gonna spend that hundred bucks to upgrade my pc with: Intel Core 2 quad q6600 gtx 1050ti 8gb ddr3 1333mhz The best choise for my pc is this... (It's obviosly gonna be more than 100 bucks...)
For $120 I got an AMD a8 5600k (with a motherboard and case) for $60, a Radeon HD 7770 2gd5 for $40, I got 4gb of 1333mhz ddr3 for free, a $10 425w psu, and a $10 320gb hard drive. I actually built this about two months ago, since then I've upgraded to 8gb 1866mhz ddr3 ($40) and a 1050ti (gift). Every part was well worth it and proved that you don't need any money(I sold my 3DS XL to pay for it) to build a gaming PC.
I still have my Xbox 360 hooked up since it contains my only worthy Dark Souls-save file, plus I'm trudging through Red Dead Redemption. The library for Xbox 360 is pretty damn great, even after +15 year since its' launch!
Nice comparison, but an important difference between the 2 is that a PC is not a single purpose machine, and you're probably not going to buy one _just_ for gaming. Lots of people have at least one desktop pc in the house for work or browsing the internet, so for them the comparison would more likely be: how would a $100 *upgrade* compare to buying a 360?
Why do his videos get so many dislikes? Just because he said people should acknowledge the simple nature of consoles? I'm PCMR too but that's just immature. These videos are awesome and he doesn't pander to any specific audience. He just admires all the different pieces of technology....
I've a quick question: I'll take your word that Minecraft on the PC is at 16 chunks, but on the console, they set the graphics settings for you behind the scenes . . . How do you know that the console version of Minecraft is just as pretty and hard to render as the PC version of Minecraft? I saw a Pentium run fine at 6 chunks being rendered at a time.
But what about taking a PC someone might already have, buying a graphics card, then trying this test again, instead of just buying part by part. Such as taking the family PC, buying a 750 Ti (Less than $100 USD now) or a 950 (Less than $150 USD packing much more performance) vs the Xbox One and 360
That's a REALLY good price for a second hand PC. The CPU alone was 183 USD when it came out and the GPU costs ~$70. The MoBo, HDD, PSU, Case etc would of cost another $100.
of course its gonna be close if you are trying to run some of the newer/demanding games on a cheep pc if you compared something a bit less taxing/older the pc would win every single category not to mention the controls being much tighter
You would probably want to get a 360 if you want to play newer games (Rise of the Tomb Raider looks gorgeous on it somehow), and a PC if you wanted to play older games that were released in the 360s actual lifespan. PC developers don't make PC games able to run at that bad of hardware anymore, it just doesn't happen. On the 360 version of the game, it's an entirely different game. That snow is probably just a texture in ROTR, where as on PC it's dynamic. They're really two completely different games. You look at all of the games that were created from 2005-2013 and most if not all run better on PC. That's because they were made during that time period. It's 2016 now and it's just impossible to get games better optimized for PC than for the 360 without the consoles holding it back.
I wanna know what the settings were for PC, it'd give us an idea at what each system excelled at and also allowing for a more decisive victory for either system.
This is somewhat of an unfair comparison for some games. Minecraft, FO3, and Bioshock Infinite I'm fine with, since it seems like you did justice in their comparison by making both things run as well as they could at a constant framerate. For things like RotTR, you would first want to drop your PC to minimum specs (likely what the XB360 is running) to test the waters there. Then, slowly upgrade your specs until you start getting noticeable frame drops. If you're stuttering from the start, give the XBox a point, since all its games are optimized. But here you're basically asking the PC to perform at higher graphics settings for the same price, and then giving the XBox a point when it can't do that.
I recently built a HTPC for my GF: HP Slim w/i3-2100@3.1GHz - 4GB DDR3 1333MHz - 500GB Western Digital 7,200RPM - $80 shipped Got a R7 240 2GB card for $35 shipped with a $20 mail-in rebate - $15 after rebate $95 total and can crush a 360 brutally You could always go with a Dell Optiplex 790 for $10-20 more and those have i5 2400 and 2500 chips
2 cigarettes in the UK probably cost more than the console and the PC combined. Seriously, $16 for a packet?? someone's making a lot of money there. Especially compared to where I live now, it costs me less than $3. Anyway, regarding PC vs Console. It's impossible to optimize PC games for all users because everyone has different hardware and even different operating systems. Eventually though, even the low end PCs start to out perform current gen consoles when running the latest games. One game that comes to mind is Farcry 3. It looked much better and ran much smoother on a non-gaming, factory built Dell than it did on the 360 or the PS3. The developers try to give the impression that the console version of their game is keeping up with the PC by capping games at 30FSP and for the most part, people don't notice this because they usually only use the PC for office type tasks or browsing the internet. The console is their only gaming platform. The difference between 60FPS and 30FPS is like night and day when stood side by side. I have a PS4 and a gaming PC attached to the same monitor, I also have "the division" on both systems. After buying and playing the PC version then trying the PS4 version again, I'm surprised at what a stuttering mess the PS4 version is. Not only was it running at 30fps but it even dipped below that at times when the action on the screen intensified. The last time I bought a console was back in my college days when the Playstation 1 first came out. For a year or so it certainly seemed to outperform the PC until the PC got the first 3DFX cards. Then it was all down hill for the PSX from there.
Come to Ukraine, rent a 200 $ per month appartment buy marlboro for less then a dollar, connect your pc or a console to a 5 $/month 100mbit unlim internet, and and be happy=).
Even if the newest games are no longer ported to the XBox 360, the Xbox 360 is still a great purchase because the games for it are not too bad looking, play well, and aren't too old (yet) either. Like Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, or COD.
You can't install GreqTech on the Xbox version of Minecraft for example, so... It does depend on which type of game you are gonna play in order to choose which platform wins. By the way, try Fallout 4 on that PC. Might be playable, even though the performance might not be that good.
I would ask that you include the graphical settings for the pc that were used in these types of videos. Especially because the 360 runs most games at a lower resolution and graphical setting than it's pc counterparts.
I found a 360 for $35 US the other day. They are a really great deal now, especially with the games being around $3-5 each at most pawn shops and game stores
i had a 100$ pc that could run far cry 3 at high 1440x900. it had a gtx 420(or something) with 1 gig of vram, an amd 3 core processor at 2.1 ghz and 2 gigs of ram. that was back in 2014.its come a long way since then.
I honestly don't think the Minecraft round was fair, since the PC version is written in Java and the console is C++, since Java is less optimized.
If only Microsoft wasn't dumb enough to write the only PC C++ version of the game ONLY for Windows 10...
The console versions I think are the same...notch originally wrote it in Java so there isn't really a going back option.
Java is better for servers than for desktop games. It is the best language for any serious server application now in my opinion. xbox 360 online? buy a ps3
don't forget that the 360 renders at like 480p not 1080p

540p is what you are thinking of. Most 360 games render at 540 or 720. 540p used to be for 60fps but now is to do 30 in newer games.

The main issue with the PC is that the RAM is only 2 GB. If the budget was extended to $110, I am sure that an extra 2 or 4 GB could be squeezed in, which would help a lot with performance.
The original Xbox One is the same age now as the 360 was when this video was made. What about a remake of this video? $100 PC in 2024 vs Xbox One?
Potatoe vs potatoe
Rasol Kadhim French fries for sure
holy shit at 0:57 i thought it was a game
GTA 5 I guess
paul siga Me too lol
paul siga wow GTA 8 graphics looks great
xbox wins
if he compared games like far cry 3 and 4, GTA 5 and 4, alien isolation, watch dogs etc, the PC would lose right away!
Love your videos mate, keep up the good work

+plmkoo's Stoodiosss This is also Australian dollar so 1 AUD is .70 USD
+plmkoo's Stoodiosss Yes, after I saw this video, I searched for cheap PC parts on ebay and I found an E8400, 2GB RAM, a overclocked GTX 460 and a better case for overall 99€.
Gustav Oechler Keep in mind you're using Euros.
-Ra- Chicago Yes... just wanted to add that :)

+dogedoesagario nah it doesn't. GTA looks brilliant, same with Forza. Typical sony fanboy comment tbh.
Zack Imm halo 5 looks like shit for the 60FPS. plain and simple they lowered the textures ALOT for a higher frame rate
Haha, I love the cigarette shots. That should be your trademark thing.
This video was so well put together and edited
I was on team PC and we WOn!!!!!!!
Thinknoodle S wtf are you talking about?

***** Ok, ok.. I just don't believe you :)
Cool editing!
Always loved how you put cigs in the PC's etc in your videos lol
Amazing vids :D just subscribed
what about the motherboard, and more specific info on ram?
0:46 the best Xbox ever smoked a cigarette
I've a quick question:
I'll take your word that Minecraft on the PC is at 16 chunks, but on the console, they set the graphics settings for you behind the scenes . . .
How do you know that the console version of Minecraft is just as pretty and hard to render as the PC version of Minecraft?
I saw a Pentium run fine at 6 chunks being rendered at a time.
But what about taking a PC someone might already have,
buying a graphics card, then trying this test again, instead of just buying part by part.
Such as taking the family PC, buying a 750 Ti (Less than $100 USD now) or a 950 (Less than $150 USD packing much more performance)
vs the Xbox One and 360
What about taking and Xbox one x and using it in the test also
That's a REALLY good price for a second hand PC. The CPU alone was 183 USD when it came out and the GPU costs ~$70. The MoBo, HDD, PSU, Case etc would of cost another $100.
of course its gonna be close if you are trying to run some of the newer/demanding games on a cheep pc if you compared something a bit less taxing/older the pc would win every single category not to mention the controls being much tighter
cant believe you put hyrule fields theme at the beginning of this lol
nice monitor! can u take a macro picture of it so I can see the individual lines
1:13 good ol' Dell Dimension.. lurking about homes everywhere.
_(in the background, I mean)_
You know this is a good video when it starts off with oot music.
Pc vs console was like quality vs performance
just wondering about the pc build featured in the video, what model case was used? it looks identical to the 5100, but i'm not too certain.
omfg that music towards the start is from Goemons Great adventure
I kinda find it weird how this channel has 70,000 subscribers with this production quality
0:57 That feel when your small suburb in a random RUclips video
I recently built a HTPC for my GF:
HP Slim w/i3-2100@3.1GHz - 4GB DDR3 1333MHz - 500GB Western Digital 7,200RPM - $80 shipped
Got a R7 240 2GB card for $35 shipped with a $20 mail-in rebate - $15 after rebate
$95 total and can crush a 360 brutally
You could always go with a Dell Optiplex 790 for $10-20 more and those have i5 2400 and 2500 chips
$16 for packet? In Australia I see them selling for around $30-$40 a packet.
I'm pretty sure both Canada and Australia both have rather strange currencies
Come to Ukraine, rent a 200 $ per month appartment buy marlboro for less then a dollar, connect your pc or a console to a 5 $/month 100mbit unlim internet, and and be happy=).
Though a $400 PC would flat out murder the 'next gen' consoles.
Even if the newest games are no longer ported to the XBox 360, the Xbox 360 is still a great purchase because the games for it are not too bad looking, play well, and aren't too old (yet) either. Like Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, or COD.
O that music for the intro... Nostalgia..
Was that the Lylat Wars soundtrack in the Background? Or did it just sound similar AF?
Plus here in NZ, this thing called "budget parts" don't exist.
> 4GB GPU for $500 NZ.
You can't install GreqTech on the Xbox version of Minecraft for example, so... It does depend on which type of game you are gonna play in order to choose which platform wins.
By the way, try Fallout 4 on that PC. Might be playable, even though the performance might not be that good.
Your 70s Jesus hair was amazing in high school.
>pc vs xbox
>plays ocarina of time music
You were driving on the wrong side of the road in the beginning. Did you end up crashing?
The reason I watch this youtuber is because I can watch electronics smoke.
Xbox360 has a special place in my heart.
The only issue is if you want to play anything online on the xbox 360, you have to pay for gold membership.
Tim always sounds like he is doing an asmr video
What's with the "AMT" Monica with all your computers and consoles?
Duel core 1.4Ghz? For gaming? What substance are you on?
I would ask that you include the graphical settings for the pc that were used in these types of videos. Especially because the 360 runs most games at a lower resolution and graphical setting than it's pc counterparts.
Most 360 games run at 720p some 1080p
Undeniable fact: for a console released in 2005, the 360 was amazing. Over 10 years later, we are just beginning to get tablets with the same power.
I found a 360 for $35 US the other day. They are a really great deal now, especially with the games being around $3-5 each at most pawn shops and game stores
I don't get why this guy sticks cigarettes in all his electronics for videos but ok
thing is, if i'm not mistaken it's a comparison of a 10 year old console vs modern tech on a budget of a fraction of what the original console was.
This is one of my favorite ghg videos. Is so nostalgic from the Zelda intro, Crt, Xbox 360, Dell, Intel core 2 duo and so many other things in it.
i had a 100$ pc that could run far cry 3 at high 1440x900. it had a gtx 420(or something) with 1 gig of vram, an amd 3 core processor at 2.1 ghz and 2 gigs of ram. that was back in 2014.its come a long way since then.
