I mean, technically, and based on my rudimentary understanding, abiogenesis IS the evolution of non-organic matter into amino acids, and then into self replicating RNA.... due to environmental conditions and pressures. .. so I could understand the confusion in semantics... but let's not give the snake oil salesmen credit for using that semantic confusion to spread disinformation, misinformation, and just straight up lies... they absolutely refuse to learn the science bc they risk tainting their foundational beliefs with the truth, bc that would mean admitting they've lied and don't deserve the attention they've garnered. Then have the audacity to insult our intelligence and honesty. Literal willful ignorance.

    • @DracoJ
      @DracoJ Год назад +5

@Nicki Adulting kind of, but not really. In some definitions of evolution, sure, but in the biological term, no. Abiogenesis refers to the emergence of life from chemistry yes. But evolution is a process by which generation based change occurs in organism populations. One is chemistry creating living things the other is change in the offspring of living things over several generations. Though change over time and development of new things which can be used as a definition for evolution like the evolution of human languages. I think abiogenesis falls there more easily.
In general, just remember they are similar, even connected but not quite the same, and while one leads to another one is not technically the other.

Scientist: Rocks and minerals played a key part in the origin of life.
Matt Powell: "Hurr durr, came from a rock"
The flood myth is a huge part of Matt's faith. And when a large number of animals are kept in prolonged confinement, manure inevitably plays a key part in the story.

@character THats nice. Is there a point in there or are you just quoting fiction at random? I can do that to.
The 'perfect being', you said? Well.... I have to tell you the honest truth, as I see it. In this world, nothing perfect exists. It may be a cliche, after all... but it's the way things are. That's precisely why ordinary men persue the concept of perfection, it's infatuation....
But ultimately, I have to ask myself: what is the true meaning of being perfect?
And the answer I came up with was: nothing. Not. One. Thing.
The truth of the matter is, I despise perfection. If something is truly perfect, that's it.
      The bottom line becomes.
There is no room for imagination. No space for intelligence. Or ability. Or improvement! Do you understand?!
To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness! Always strive to be better than anything that came before you, but not perfect. Scientists agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection!
That's the kind of creatures we are. We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp and trying to reach for something that, in the end, we have to admit, may in fact be unreachable!
      In other words...
You may think that we operate on the same level, but you are wrong. The moment you talked about perfection, you embraced an impossible concept and already lost to me....
that is, of course, if you are indeed a scientist, at all. -Mayuri Kurotsuchi, Bleach episode 300.

The life came from rocks thing is one of the only arguments of theirs I understand and have some sympathy for. It is technically true, it's just grossly oversimplified. Most of the components that make up life did come from rocks. The issue is one of semantics. They then twist this to make it sound like we think rocks magically turned into life which is going too far. It's hard to correct though since the core of their nonsense is true, life is made of the stuff that came from rocks.

10:49 Come on SkepTick, we both know why apologists NEVER listen to what atheists (or skeptics) actually say about what they ACTUALLY believe. It's far more fun to tell your followers what you want atheists to believe than to learn what atheists actually believe. This has been going on all the way back to Paul, see Romans 1:20 for details.

So much projection. I play video games and watch anime. Do I think the characters are real? No. It's just fun escapism. I almost feel bad for Matt as I see a guy who never grew up & still believes that he has an imaginary friend along with the monster under the bed.

Knowing Matt, he probably thinks that makes you childish, while being completely ignorant about teh incredible ADULT stories that come from both. I've actually been seriously tempted to get that video where he said that we shouldnt listen to people who still like 'nicolodian' and splice in clips from the Anime on the people he was talking abouts walls to make a point that no, those are NOT for kids.

Usual answer: he/she/it always existed, timeless. Doesn't answer any question, but usually silences a few people. The next question is, if god was timeless and always existed, why did he decide to create the universe when he created it? Why not earlier, why not later, why at all, why only one? But I know, a human is not able to understand god's ways, the usual answer of apologists. That however would raise the question, if humans can't understand god's ways, how can apologists claim to understand them?
