+William Carlson wow that's really nice to hear, thank you! I'm so happy for you, was that a blast? I remember my first fish on the fly, I was hooked...
I was using conventional gear at a pond with bass and bluegill. Keep in mind, I was about ready to give up. I decided to switch to the fly, so I got to an open spot where it would be easy for me to cast. Once my wooly bugger was in the water I slowly stripped it in and then after a few casts I felt a tug on my line. I was extremely excited because I wasn't expecting a bite. The bass I caught was really small, but I haven't touched my conventional gear since. I also caught a bluegill that same day.
Nice! Yeah most people's first fish on the fly is a bluegill. But awesome you were catching bass as well. Congrats man, send me some pics of your fish.
I can hear your Heart beat from this side of the screen . Love fishing for Browns. Streamers and Browns are a Match made in Heaven. also get a lanyard for that net of yours and get a Steel head net it has a Bigger Opening and rounded . You had a Great day. When you fish more .You will Lean more towards the Brown as a Fun fish to Catch because they love to Eat and Grow Large and They are Fighters.
Thanks for the tips. Yes, my heart was pounding, it was an exciting fight. Like I said, I am very experienced fishing, just not for trout. I came from a saltwater and still water background. Redfish, sea trout, and largemouth bass.
well all i can say is learn all you can and keep it simple. study the fish you are Targeting all you can Remember big fish eat small fish and small fish eat flies. German Browns can be Caught on MIce patterns too. They eat what will fit there Mouths. Rainbow will eat flies and are More Finicky than Browns and Browns will eat rainbows and each other . as well as Eggs and snakes.Big bait big fish !!!!! have Caught Browns with a Kokanee still in its Mouth. Gotta Love the Browns. they will never Starve.
Yeah, funny thing is I fished those brown like they were bass. Tried to find structure, threw streamers, fished those streamers like i would a bass streamer. They are definitely more aggressive than rainbow. Also very beautiful fish. I am doing all I can to study the fish I am targeting. While I'm no expert, I have learned a lot in the last few years. But, I'm always ears up when an experienced trout fisherman starts talking. Always trying to get as much info as possible. Ive been like that forever. Even when I was fishing for bass or saltwater fish. I try to listen to all advice, especially when it comes from someone more experienced than me. I mean, I used to work on boats taking people out and teaching people to fish. However, the teacher is only a good teacher if he doesn't mind being the student sometimes. And thats what I would do. I would try to listen to more experienced people, and apply these things. I don't care how old you are, or how long you have been fishing, there is always someone that you can learn from. :)
you good on the structure and bass, brown tactic , they eat everything. you ever listen to the pod cast on RUclips by Gritty angler??? they talks trout fish all the time . tactics rods and reals and water type s give it a shit . They posted a Mouse and Brown trout one today
Any fish no matter how big or small satisfies me. The Gunnison is an amazing river. I fished it in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in last July. The water is super strong so wading into much of the river is a terrible idea. I was using a hopper dropper setup with a size 20 nymph and 6x tippet so if you hook up monster ( wich are somwhat abundant in the Gunnison ) be ready for a fight. I believe most of the park is gold medal waters but I'm not sure. The park is a 5 minute drive from Montrose, CO wich is a great place to refuel with food and gear. Tight Lines, Nate
Im the same way man, love catching fish no matter what size. That sounds like a good fishery. Is there a camp ground near by? Im guessing there is one in Montrose. I am trying to decide where to go. Just got a new car that can make further distance trips. So I plan on doing my next trip further out. Deciding whether to go up that way, or over by colorado springs. There is a good river I keep hearing about out that way also.
+Freestyle Fishing glad I could make some enjoyable videos for you. That's a nice trout, anything 20" or more is amazing! Heck, I'm happy many times with a 15" trout! Haha. So how is the Gunnison?
+laxslacker I lived in Pennsylvania when I was young. I remember the trips out to Lancaster with my grandparents. There is some beauty on the east coast as well. But your right, it is very beautiful out here
Wow,... Great Brownie McFly. And I must commend you on your nice double haul cast, a must for throwing those heavy streamers. Congrats again and keep'em coming.
Awesome!! I have been fly fishing for well over 30 years and my biggest is a 28 brown, last year. I took me a very long time to catch something that big. Congrats on your big brown!
I really don't fish dries that much, last year I caught a bat in the evening hours. I am going to hit the dries a little bit harder this year, especially the evening hours.
I rediscovered nymph fishing last year. Caught some really nice trout, on is a 25 inch cutthrout. I mainly fish streamers like the articulated woolly bugger, that is what I caught my 28 inch brown on.
Awesome fish...I am still in Navajo Dam and still catching fish...the kids here tell me the fishing is going to be unbelievable when the water comes down in 3 weeks
I enjoyed Row Row Rowing the boat at Six Lakes in Utah. Great Fishing Group of old and new friends, No doubt about that.. Hope to see "UU" again soon, or at least next year!
Thanks man! Yeah it was a blast! One of the most fun I’ve had in a while for sure! I enjoyed everyone’s company, and thanks for all the good jokes! :). If you ever get the chance to be in Durango, let me know and I’ll take ya out fishing.
just found you channel yesterday. Very much enjoying the vids. Cool surprise to find out you worked at Dolphin Docks. We take trips to Port A often, being from Texas.
Glad to have you watching now. Yeah port A is awesome! Sad what happened with the hurricane but, I think they have bounced back now. What part of Texas you from?
@@McFlyAngler Llano. We were in Corpus for spring break, and then fished with a guide in Rockport for reds. The place looks good from what we saw. Everything is pretty cleaned up.
Spoke to Fish and wildlife guy when they first opened the ponds. He told me they ran a net across all of them before they stocked it, and each pond had at least two browns over 10 pounds. Owner of the ponds had stocked them with browns many years ago and allowed some local friends to fish. When P&W leased it, the locals tried to run off everyone, telling them they couldn't fish there.
Awesome vid. I've passed those ponds every time I've gone up the river to fish, never tried them grrrr. Thanks so much now I have a place to fish during runoff. BTW my biggest here off the Dolores was a 30 inch rainbow on a 3 weight rod.
Was the upper Dolores, I call it my super secret spot. Was a tiny little tributary off the main river. But years ago I caught a 26 inch cutbow in the lower Dolores right below the dam.
Back a few years ago the fishing below the dam was amazing, but with the drought they've withheld the water in the reservoir and it's destroyed the fishing. But it's still great up above the dam for sure.
I'll give you a local hint if you want to give it a shot.... if you can get permission to fish the spillway underneath groundhog reservoir you'll catch some monsters. I swear they put something in the water there.
Three trophy trout. Well done Angler. For still water fishing where you're above the fish like that a short handled net is not good. There are a number of makers of folding, telescoping long handle nets that will fit in your pack or on a tool holder or magnetic catch. Frabill makes a decent one. I prefer them even for River fishing. The shorter time the fish is struggling the better chance it has for recovery. Also easier on the anglers back using the long handle.
Yes. There is a campground right in the park. It's called the East Portal campground and the area is the East Portal and the fishing is amazing. Be sure to watch out for bears though, there are a couple around there. Just watch a bear safety video first and you'll be fine.
+Freestyle Fishing yeah we have bears around here also, saw one really close to my house the other day. Like just down the street, about 3 minute walk... I'll check out the east portal, thanks
Thanks for replying. I'm from Massachusetts but have family all over Colorado so I was thinking that would be a cool place to fish. I love wild trout and I am almost solely a catch and release fly fisherman. I just recently found your channel and subscribed. I think your videos are awesome and would love to get in touch. Thanks!
Thanks man! Yeah, thanks for watching. Colorado is awesome for fishing, there are places better than those little ponds, but for a fun quick trip, they are awesome. Its not pristine trout rivers, but still a blast. I would recommend the pine river, or even the lower deloris river if you want more fish. This pond isn't the most productive, but when its on, its really fun.
Sorry for the late response, I just saw this. I wish I could recommend more but... I can recommend are to get a professional to give you lessons. Thats what helped me. I had a good friend that was a fly guide, and he also taught lessons. He gave me some pointers. Its tough without seeing your cast in person to give you any tweaks ya know? The only thing I can say is, make sure you get the timing down. Start off with an oversized line and a moderate to slow rod. This way you can feel where the rod loads easier. Once you learn the load of the rod, then you can go to the stiff rods and lighter lines.
Thank you! Yeah, thats the thing, out here most of the larger trout are browns. The rainbows don't have an ocean to go to, so they don't become Steelies... But the browns become predatory kinda early, so they grow bigger here (at least my experiences)
McFly Angler yes, the most memorable was a brown pushing 20 inches I would guess. It’s at the end of my last video and was the only brown I caught after a series of small to medium rainbows. It wasn’t super good fishing, but it was decent.
awesome brother looking forward to whats next...have you ever tried the jicarilla Apache reservation near dulce nm there lakes i think theirs three or four but the evening hatch about an hour before dark is crazy a 25 or 26 inch rainbow or brown trout is not uncommon.....the best thing is it only $15.00 for a day pass and you can fish all 4 lakes...
how can i help in the way of donations to make sure that your program stays a float there are things that are worth saving and its nice to see that other people have an appreciation for this beautiful country keep up the good work and and may god bless your wife and new baby girl...
Alfred, I do appreciate you. Thats nice of you to offer. If you do want to donate, just go to my website. www.mcflyangler.com, then go to the donate page. It will give all the instructions there. Again, thank you so much.
I went to a mid length net, I slide it down my wading belt in the back. It also helps me stand up straight during the day so my back is not killing me after the end to along day. It makes it easier to net them when you are trying to keep them in frame as well. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks for the tip, yeah I have a mid length net on the way right now. A custom net builder contacted me and said he wants to send me one to test out. Im pretty excited about it. Burled wood, rubber net, he does beautiful work. And they aren't badly priced either. So I'm excited to get it and try it. I might put it in my wading belt the same way.
Sounds like you need to start fishing those ponds more haha. Great catch though, enjoying the videos and learning from some of your videos on filming some vids myself. Keep it up!
I believe that one of the reasons that you loose a lot of fish is because you hold the line when you fight them. If you let the fish take drag then you will be able to keep them on longer. Hope this help, good luck
Thanks for the help and advice. I do think I was getting him to the reel though quickly and didnt hold the line once he was on the reel. Can you give me advice to how to get him on the reel quicker when I have lots of line out from stripping in?
McFly Angler Keep a high rod tip and let his take out line. It's is very hard task. On the bank or even if your on a river if you know what the bottom is like but step back while the fish is running then you can get on the real. (Sorry if this is not the best English, I'm 13)
Thanks Steve! I thought they were nice for sure. The last brown I caught (about 24-25") I was all excited and some people on here said that it was not huge... I was happy with it though, just like these fish, but some people seemed under impressed. HAHA Glad to hear some people think this guy is a good one. LOL
McFly Angler well that's great for them if they catch bigger fish than that, but chances are most of the people who save that wasn't a big fish I'll probably 11 years old and never caught anything. As long as you're happy with it that's all that matters
Fish that flop like that and hit the rocks, does that severely wound them if not possibly kill them ? I know you didn't mean to but im just curious if that happens to me in the future, if I should just go ahead and keep him ??
Its not the best for them no, it was an accident though! I would say it depends. That fish lived, I’ve seen it in that tiny lake since. However if it’s legal to keep fish and you plan on keeping them, then maybe keep the ones you drop.
Love the channel! Been watching for a while and always stumble across this video and think about catching a brown that big! I’m from south of Denver so I’ve always taken information from your fishing to help me out! If you don’t mind me asking, where is this pond/ what is the name of it? Anyways keep up the good work! Tight lines!
I always do... lol maybe I'm doing it wrong. Many of the big fish I used to fish for (redfish, dorado, tuna etc...) would peel line off so fast that I didnt need to catch line up. You would just have to let them do their initial run, and they would get themselves on the reel.
+Chickasaw Fly Co btw, thank you for the nice words. Is it the monster bugger your talking about, or the jointed fly (I called it the jointed green dragon) which is the one that caught the big boy...
Greetings from the mtns.of North Carolina.Just stumbled upon your vids and have enjoyed them. From reading some comments,I saw that about a month ago,you had a little one about to make an appearance.Hope all is well. Also saw another comment in which you replied to a muslim concerning fasting. You said you fasted, and I'm just curious as to why.Weird question I know, again, just curious.
Brown, I did have a little one on the way, and she is already here. She was born about 3 weeks ago or so. Beautiful and healthy little girl. As for the fasting. I have fasted before because I am a follower of Jesus. Its not something I do "religiously" or anything though, but sometimes to be able to give me more time to pray and study the bible. I don't do it all the time, just during times of when more prayer is needed.
McFly Angler Glad to hear that little girl is here and doing well.God is so good! I asked you about fasting because the Spirit bore witness that you are a Christian. I am a Baptist pastor and firmly believe in the power of prayer and fasting.Keep on fishing flies and trusting Jesus. If we never meet down here, I'll see you when the roll is called up yonder.
@@OfficialParkit um, maybe sure. But I don't spin fish. I mean im not against it, just I only really fly fish, and its all I brought ya know? Also one thing to think about is, are the fish eating while the water is moving so fast? Yeah I mean they are, but they are going to be really picky, hiding behind rocks and stuff to keep from having to exert energy to keep up with the fast water movement.
Thanks! Yeah, I would love a float tube! Just funds are a bit tight. Here is a list of all the brands of line/tippet/leader I was using, with links to where I've found the best deals on them (from a reputable source), BTW, they are all Rio. Im a fan of Rio. I started with a 2x tippet, then went to 3x, then 4x flouro... Finally started catching with the 4x fluorocarbon tippet. I guess they were a bit line shy. Rio Outbound Short sink tip line WF6F/S1 - amzn.to/2q1IHjE Rio 2x and 3x tapered leader - amzn.to/2pPnHNF Rio 2x & 3x Tippet - amzn.to/2p2VjHO Rio 4x Fluorocarbon Tippet - amzn.to/2ofy2Wb
Might be one of my favorite videos. I'm always trying to make things more efficient and seeing you get your net caught up on the gopro makes me feel like I'm not alone in this world. :-) I also find it fascinating that there seems to be a size of streamer that lets you skip all the smaller fish and target the big ones. Thanks for posting! BTW, your roll cast could use a lot more translation before rotation, especially when throwing streamers like that. ruclips.net/video/rMUL0FN4HxA/видео.html
I dont really know 100%, just info I get from the locals. Supposedly they are not, they are leftover from when they were beaver dams a long time ago. They were converted to fishing lakes, and stocked with rainbows. But the browns are natural (from what I am told). They might be breeding in there, but they might not. More than likely not, so what ever brown you catch is one of just a few. I would highly recommend releasing them, and try to handle them more careful than I handled the bigger one. It was an accident when I dropped it, and luckily it lived, but please just be careful with them.
Joseph Borgerding really really easy to watch how someone else makes a mistake and comment as if you would do it better. Mistakes happen, things don’t always go as planned. Either way that fish did live to see another day. I have friends that caught the exact one. I’ve done all the research, thanks man. Have a good day
No problem. Good luck out there! So is the fishing usually this good on those lakes? I only have fished them once before this trip. Or did I have a really lucky day?
Yeah the rivers are tough here as well. All are so muddy! Im kinda stuck to lakes or the San Juan River... However soon the San Juan will have "high water" that lasts for 2 weeks. So I will be SOL for a few weeks. HAHA
A good method to fish rivers that are running high and muddy is with streamers. Throw up river between 12-24" and strip fast down river... Ive gotten so big browns that way.
Yes, I think I said in the video that I need a bigger net. But to my defense, I really didnt expect anything over 15"... HAHA I recently have been in discussion with a custom net builder that I met. He might be sending me one. They are really nice, burled wood, rubber net, etc. Plus they aren't badly priced for a custom net. So, I will be getting that in the next week or two. I will go back there once I have the net.
I think the one he is sending is 20" long and 15" across. I don't think I could carry a larger net... You have to realize, I don't fish out of a boat, so whatever I have has to be attached to me. After telling him my height, he recommended that size net. The largest that I can carry that won't drag in the water 100% of the time. lol
McFly Angler that's a good size net. doesn't only protect bigger fish from flopping out, it makes it so much easier to net normal sized fish. makes them loom small in a big net tho, lol
I wasn't in the mood for trout that day, plus he is one of probably only 5 in that whole lake system that size, I don't want to kill off trout in such a small body of water. I have no problem keeping one or two in a larger lake if I'm in the mood for them, but not in such a small lake system. Also, this size is a breeding fish, so... Id like to eat the smaller ones, that taste better and are not breeding fish.
Yes, they were never stocked... Ever. They only stock rainbows there. There are a limited amount of browns in that lake. They were old beaver dams that the state cleaned up and dammed up... The lakes are right near the river, and had browns in there from before. All the browns are wild. If you eat all the big ones, then the little ones won't be born...... ;) Im not telling you not to keep your fish, I am just saying in this specific small fishery, I don't feel like taking the small number of fish out of that lake thats all... Have a nice day...
Gotcha, I thought they increased the Fees this year. Thankfully my resident license ran around 40$. If you fish that streamer along the banks and cover water youll get plenty of turns btw.
Yeah, just its hard to film and move. Kinda gotta stay put when trying to film. I would have to pick up the camera each move to fish along the entire bank. I really need to get someone to come with me and film. But, where am I going to get someone that doesn't mind filming and not fishing? HAHA
+chase powell I did wet my hands... I’m big on making sure to keep fish alive. Accidents happen though, and I never meant to drop him, but he is still there as I went back and saw him in the same spot about a week later cruising around. Looked healthy. Have a nice day! :)
I love your never give up attitude. Your positive attitude helped me tune my own attitude and that helped me catch my first fish on the fly.
+William Carlson wow that's really nice to hear, thank you! I'm so happy for you, was that a blast? I remember my first fish on the fly, I was hooked...

+Britt Pereira yeah it's good fishing. Check it out some time
Wow I live in the Appalachian’s and fish over 24 inches are almost unheard of unless your in a farms or private stream nice catch
Thanks! So last year I got one even larger. This video is about 3 years old, go check out the brown that was 28 inches. About 1.5 years ago.

Measuring tape = required equipment! Nice catch!
Lol thanks! Yeah if you have a camera, and can put them up against something you can measure later... haha
Browns, especially big guys, like to feed at night as well. Fishing after sundown can be pretty good as long as your laws are okay with it.
Yeah night fishing on the animas river is really good. Throw a large mouse pattern, and they will come to the top and destroy it!
God for sure makes the most beautiful things. Any casting tips for a beginner fly fisherman? Thanks
Clay Sensiba Look up some videos from Joan Wulff and then try to practice as much as you can, maybe three times a week if your busy.
Yooooooooo i never had people come here and record i went to those ponds this year couldn't find the browns but i cout alot of bows
Yeah I’ve caught a ton of bows also there
Nice browns man, my largest brown is about 12 inches. I have caught steel head that big, not on a fly rod though.
Thank you! Yeah, thats the thing, out here most of the larger trout are browns. The rainbows don't have an ocean to go to, so they don't become Steelies... But the browns become predatory kinda early, so they grow bigger here (at least my experiences)
Hey thanks for the help the other day. I posted a video to my channel, some mulies came down to drink while I was fishing by the pump house today.
+Jumping Off The Cliff nice! There are lots of deer for sure. Did ya catch any fish?
McFly Angler yes, the most memorable was a brown pushing 20 inches I would guess. It’s at the end of my last video and was the only brown I caught after a series of small to medium rainbows. It wasn’t super good fishing, but it was decent.
Yeah? There are definitely a lot of small rainbows out there. They stocked recently.
awesome brother looking forward to whats next...have you ever tried the jicarilla Apache reservation near dulce nm there lakes i think theirs three or four but the evening hatch about an hour before dark is crazy a 25 or 26 inch rainbow or brown trout is not uncommon.....the best thing is it only $15.00 for a day pass and you can fish all 4 lakes...
That sounds cool. I like the idea of dry fly fishing for 25" trout! LOL
how can i help in the way of donations to make sure that your program stays a float there are things that are worth saving and its nice to see that other people have an appreciation for this beautiful country keep up the good work and and may god bless your wife and new baby girl...
Alfred, I do appreciate you. Thats nice of you to offer. If you do want to donate, just go to my website. www.mcflyangler.com, then go to the donate page. It will give all the instructions there. Again, thank you so much.
Very nice days fishing!!!! It's always nice to get a decent brownie.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Next time the rivers up and dirty use a sink tip and a tandem wet fly rig mate.
Give it a shot you'll be surprised. 👍🏻
Yeah, but I didn’t have a sink tip with me
I believe I would be going back there often!
Yeah, I haven't for a while, maybe I should again soon! LOL
Holly shit! Nice day!!! :) Magical lake, I think you will try it again? ;) Great fishing!
Totally going to go fish it again... After a day like that, I can't not do it... HAHA Thanks!
That was a good day and yeah you may need a bigger net;)
Definitely need a bigger net! I really wasn't expecting a 27" though! HAHA
That's awesome, I will be on the look out for in your vids.
Nice fish, good for you man.
Thank you Larry
Sounds like you need to start fishing those ponds more haha. Great catch though, enjoying the videos and learning from some of your videos on filming some vids myself. Keep it up!
+Tree Top Tracking thanks tree, yeah I'm gonna fish the ponds again for sure!
Just cut some leader to the same length of the fish and measure it when you get home. The iPhone measuring app is pretty accurate as well.
This was before the iPhone measuring app. I measured against my net and then measured that spot when I got home. All good
I believe that one of the reasons that you loose a lot of fish is because you hold the line when you fight them.
(Sorry if this is not the best English, I'm 13)
well thanks for the tips, I totally would have walked back, except I couldn't where I was.
Solid day!
Thanks
I don't care who you are, those are some nice fish. Better than my PB anyway
LOL thanks! I was happy, very happy. Honestly, I am happy to catch any fish. Its always exciting no matter what the size.
AWESOME!!!!!
Yeah thanks! It was a blast of a day!
Its in Dolores Colorado, all the info is in the description section (at least I thin it is).
Sure, any time.
try fanning the reel to pick up line fast, its a lot faster then cranking the reel when you need to get a big fish on the reel
Thanks for the tip... Do you ever have trouble with the line getting built up in one spot when doing that?
not generally
I always do... lol maybe I'm doing it wrong. Many of the big fish I used to fish for (redfish, dorado, tuna etc...) would peel line off so fast that I didnt need to catch line up. You would just have to let them do their initial run, and they would get themselves on the reel.
huh I was fanning my opst set up yesterday no issue
nice, well I will practice that for sure, thanks again.
Awesome
+Jarett Lawther thanks
Where's those lakes at? Curious on where, wanting to try them out.
Dolores, CO
You should try fly fishing at michfee resivor i want to see how to fish it
I hear good things, just I need a boat for it. Lol
so what is that place to have fish and look like a water regulator. does water come in and go out or is it just a take and release pond???
Water comes in through the upper Dolores river....
That brown was huge. It barely fit in the net!
Yeah, after that fish I realized I needed a new net. HAHA Thanks! :)
So awesome man love that you are so genuine. Great vids, and what was that fly's name again?
+Chickasaw Fly Co which fly?
+Chickasaw Fly Co btw, thank you for the nice words. Is it the monster bugger your talking about, or the jointed fly (I called it the jointed green dragon) which is the one that caught the big boy...
Chickasaw Fly Co i
BIG FISH!!
Thanks, yeah he was a monster for sure! I was really happy with the day.
So when I see brown water in the river I shouldn't even try? When you see that does that mean the whole river is brown or just that section?
I didn’t say don’t try. But this was reallly really thick with suit. Almost impossible for the fish to see any fly.
@@McFlyAngler in that sort of situation would a spinner work since it shines in the light and makes so much noise?
@@OfficialParkit um, maybe sure. But I don't spin fish. I mean im not against it, just I only really fly fish, and its all I brought ya know? Also one thing to think about is, are the fish eating while the water is moving so fast? Yeah I mean they are, but they are going to be really picky, hiding behind rocks and stuff to keep from having to exert energy to keep up with the fast water movement.
Awesome!! You, need a float tube my friend.
Well done!!
What size brand tippet/line were you using ?
Cheers =)
Rio Outbound Short sink tip line WF6F/S1 - amzn.to/2q1IHjE
Rio 2x and 3x tapered leader - amzn.to/2pPnHNF
Rio 2x & 3x Tippet - amzn.to/2p2VjHO
Rio 4x Fluorocarbon Tippet - amzn.to/2ofy2Wb
Nice fish....Subscribed.....Handle Trout with care..
+ugsisr thanks my friend!
BTW, your roll cast could use a lot more translation before rotation, especially when throwing streamers like that. ruclips.net/video/rMUL0FN4HxA/видео.html
are the browns stocked also
I dont really know 100%, just info I get from the locals.
Have a good day
Witch pond was that big one in I fish there all the time
+New Mexico Outdoorsman I think the 3rd or 4th... the one that was super low...
McFly Angler thanks
No problem. Good luck out there!
So is the fishing usually this good on those lakes? I only have fished them once before this trip. Or did I have a really lucky day?
Hey McFly come fishing with me and my buddy Devon in SW Wyoming.
Id love to! Just need to figure out when... Im quite busy with work right now. Can I take a raincheck for later this year or early next?
Any time man, the spring run off has made the rivers hard fishing right now anyway. Just before hunting season would be best.. Late august..
Ive gotten so big browns that way.
get a bigger net so you don't drop that fish next time... or so it doesn't flop around like crazy on the rocks in your net. Nice fish tho
Yes, I think I said in the video that I need a bigger net. But to my defense, I really didnt expect anything over 15"... HAHA
I recently have been in discussion with a custom net builder that I met. He might be sending me one. They are really nice, burled wood, rubber net, etc. Plus they aren't badly priced for a custom net. So, I will be getting that in the next week or two. I will go back there once I have the net.
McFly Angler Nice, make sure it's a big one lol! mine net basket is 22 inches long and 17 inches across. plenty of room
get the orvis net retractor, too. solves a billion problems with nets
Headphone warning at 6:30!!
Hey sorry, I’ve improved my sound as of late.
@@McFlyAngler It's OK, I'm deaf now anyway! ha
It really wasn’t that bad man... lol
I paid 94 bucks for a trout fishing license....Virginia is expensive !!!
Yeah man, try California! lol. I paid something like $138 or something there...
in what state are these ponds
+Keatons Korner - Colorado, I put all the info on the area in the description section if you wanna check it out.
heres that podcast
ruclips.net/video/Rnuj20F7LBk/видео.html
Thanks Troutaholic
Eat him!
Wild lake trout? If we all ate the small ones, how do they grow to get bigger?
Yes, they were never stocked... Ever. They only stock rainbows there. There are a limited amount of browns in that lake. They were old beaver dams that the state cleaned up and dammed up... The lakes are right near the river, and had browns in there from before. All the browns are wild.
If you eat all the big ones, then the little ones won't be born...... ;) Im not telling you not to keep your fish, I am just saying in this specific small fishery, I don't feel like taking the small number of fish out of that lake thats all... Have a nice day...
71$ ? Not a resident?
Well, I moved here about 1 month ago, and they require you to be 6 months here. So I am a resident, but for not long enough to get the discount.
HAHA
Good Point!
Nice vid, and great fish, but I sure wish you would wet your hands before touching those beautiful fish.
I do bro... lol.
this fish probably died after the release, wet your hands learn proper fish handling skills.
+chase powell I did wet my hands... I’m big on making sure to keep fish alive. Accidents happen though, and I never meant to drop him, but he is still there as I went back and saw him in the same spot about a week later cruising around. Looked healthy. Have a nice day! :)
