A couple of corrections, Strider was not ported to "PC" but "PC Engine", which was a 16-bit console, best known as TurboGrafx-16 in the West. Also "Osman" or "Cannon Dancer" was directed by the same game director of the original Strider arcade, along with his XBLA game Moon Diver.
I find it amazing that double helix came out and basically took some of the best parts of the arcade and the Metroidvania parts of the NES version to make that brilliant Strider game in 2014. I am going to say it is one of the best Strider games I have ever played.
The "PC" port of the original game in Japan that you mentioned isn't a computer version, it's for the PC Engine (known as the TurboGrafx-16 outside Japan). The only Japanese PC release of Strider was for the Sharp X68000 computer.
"Osman" aka "Cannon Dancer" I have never personally heard of before, but "Run Saber" I definitely have. Good look into the history of "Strider." I like how you included info from the manga, as well.
Watched this video whilst waiting for the new Strider to download on my PSN!!! : ) The perfect video to psyche me up for this shit!!!! Oh YEAAAAAHHHH!!! SCHVING!!! SCHVING SCHVING SCHVING!!!!!!!!!!! Subbed!
THANK GOODNESS CAP COM ANSWERED ALOT OF PEOPLES PRAYERS WITH THE NEW INSTALLMENT OF STRIDER ITS COMING OUT YEAR BUT IT WILL BE ON ALL CONSOLES PS VITA ,PS3 ,PS4, XBOX 360 ,XBOX ONE AND PC .
Strangely, the Famicom (NES) Strider game was never actually released in Japan. Always struck me as odd, as that was part of the original collaboration.
Interesting, I never knew that Rock Volnutt was going to have a Hiryu-like armor. Looked really cool. Where'd you get the art? Great video. I've done a LP on Strider 1 and 2 on my channel. Check it out!
Those Genesis covers are hideous. Such a cool character, a lot could be done with him, either a new metroidvania game or even a 3D one similar to Ninja Gaiden Black/2/3, a lot of wasted potential
It just seems odd to me that someone would put something out there as a "History of Strider", but have errors and omissions. These things call into question the rest of the piece. While I know that the rest of the information is accurate (enough), thoroughness and fact-checking are important in journalism.
Not exactly fair putting the arcade Strider side-by-side with the NES version of Ninja Gaiden (4:36). Although the arcade version of Ninja Gaiden was pretty lame, it was certainly more colorful and varied than the NES version.
I disagree. Back in the day the appeal of going to the arcades was that arcade cabinets were more technologically advanced than anything that the home consoles were capable of doing. Thats the reason they stayed relevant for so long even after the advent of the home console. I was simply pointing out that Strider was just one example of that. And the reason that I used Ninja Gaiden was because it was another ninja game released around the same time and made the comparison a bit easier to make. As fast and nimble as Hayabusa was in Ninja Gaiden, Strider was even more so at the arcade
***** I get it, but if your aim was to simply show the obvious -- that the arcades of the day were better than the home games of the day -- then you could have done so in any number of less-confusing ways. I mean, the arcade Strider and the NES Strider together make that point very well. :) To anybody unfamiliar with the NES Ninja Gaiden, your video will appear to be presenting it as the arcade version when it isn't, that's all I'm saying. Yes, the NES Ninja Gaiden was a bit NES-ish, but so was every other NES game. Pitching it as ninja game versus ninja game is silly if what you're actually comparing is 16-bit arcade versus 8-bit console. Nobody should find fault with NES Ninja Gaiden for being 8-bit, right?
jaholmes01 Well you have to understand that I was comparing series vs series, not arcade vs home console, or in this instance "16 bit" vs 8 bit. The reason for the comparison was to highlight that Strider for the arcade (which is the focus of this video, not the NES version) was technologically superior to what most people had available to them, which was Ninja Gaiden. I never said Ninja Gaiden was a bad game, it was more a tongue in cheek way of saying that it simply wasn't the only good ninja game out there at the time. And in some instances (in my opinion) Strider was the superior game.
Richard Garcia I can't get it on steam. I have to have it for a normal console. Im not a PC gamer at all! Im sure my wallet hates me for saying that, but thats how its always been lol
Strider Hiryu is my favorite video game ninja.
StarBoy62 mine too
A badass ninja
ryu hyabusa -.-
Mine too, Bakuryu looks like him but Hiryu its more badass
"Strider Hiryu you will never leave Eurasia alive"..."I Gotcha"
A couple of corrections, Strider was not ported to "PC" but "PC Engine", which was a 16-bit console, best known as TurboGrafx-16 in the West.

Also, an AWESOME follow-up/reboot/sequel to Strider was made a few years after this video, in 2014.
I was gonna say "why hasnt he mentioned the 2014 reboot?". Then realized this was made in 2013
I find it amazing that double helix came out and basically took some of the best parts of the arcade and the Metroidvania parts of the NES version to make that brilliant Strider game in 2014. I am going to say it is one of the best Strider games I have ever played.
I gonna vote for Strider Hiryu in the super smash poll.
Awesome. Strider was my favorite game growing up. Thanks for making this.
You should do one about the latest game that came a year after this video.
Thanks for the video about strider. It's really hard to find a video telling about Hiryu's development history.
Strider the man that defeated "Ryu Hayabusa"
His name is Hiryu not Strider. Strider is just a title. Though Ryu and Hiryu are by far one of the strongest video game ninjas I have ever known off.
well sorry im too new with the hiryu character, but yeah agree both are the strongest ninjas.
***** yeah you're right there could be video game ninja that are stronger than you (no offence but Hiryu is AWESOME)
Serox Mirusaki I can name a couple of other characters that could beat me for sure lol
***** Could you name them if you want to?
one year later after your video, a new Strider game is out! XD
and free on ps plus no less
***** FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCK!
Mike Maverick shit I got my for 4 bucks on Xbox and that was a sale smh
& now in 2016, Strider Hiryu teams up w/ Shinobi's Hotsuma along w/ other franchise characters to battle evil in Project X Zone 2
And only roughly a year after this video was made, Strider 2014 happened. Coincidence, much?
5:16 *PC Engine - as in the console, Japanese name of the TurboGrafx
NINJA GAIDEN CAN'T FUCK WITH STRIDER, BOY.
thanks for the info on strider, found this on screwattack and i'm glad i watched it. now i know more then i ever did about him. keep up the good work.
you know a new Strider game has been "leaked" and rumored right? we can only hope :D

Wow, thanks for posting the video. Learned a few new things that I've never known before and I've been a fan for over 20 years.
there is a new STRIDER :0
I used to love playing Strider in cabinets during the 1980s, I always used to go straight onto it. The console ports were always so weak up to it.
Watched this video whilst waiting for the new Strider to download on my PSN!!! : ) The perfect video to psyche me up for this shit!!!! Oh YEAAAAAHHHH!!! SCHVING!!! SCHVING SCHVING SCHVING!!!!!!!!!!! Subbed!

Oh by the way thank you for making this cool video man I really enjoyed it .
Beat the arcade with 50 cents
Osman is an awesome game.
Strider needs a open-world/hack & slash/action-RPG/sandbox reboot game for PS4, XBOX One, and Nintendo Switch.

Mitchel Corp: How dare you steal my game!!
Also Mitchel Corp: 7:36

*I HEAR THEY ARE GOING TO COME OUT WITH A NEW STRIDER IN 2014 NEXT YEAR*
GuntPulp its only in Japan
huh, this video was poorly timed since we got the best strider game ever just one year after this video XD
Great video mang :)
I'm prob not the first to say, but you forgot to talk about Moon Diver ;)
We get his Armor and weapon in Monster Hunter Gen
they should make a movie
Ok what about bionic commando

ストライダーリターンズは正史なんだろうかw
ファミコン(nes)版やってみたかったなぁ~
Again with this Mei-Oh character. Rikimaru from the Tenchu franchise kicked his ass too.
Interesting, I never knew that Rock Volnutt was going to have a Hiryu-like armor. Looked really cool. Where'd you get the art?
Great video. I've done a LP on Strider 1 and 2 on my channel. Check it out!
Next year 2014, was released the Strider reboot lol
Wouldn't it be cool if they worked Strider into a future Spiderman movie like have him come from the future.
Great video!
Strider Hiryu, gamings no.1 ninja
Those Genesis covers are hideous.
Such a cool character, a lot could be done with him, either a new metroidvania game or even a 3D one similar to Ninja Gaiden Black/2/3, a lot of wasted potential
Facsist Clay?
Rank C, Rank B, Rank A and Rank S.
FASCIOUS CLAY???
+TITAN-UP FX (TUFX) "Faceas Clay"
#yikes #sorry
If only this was turned into an anime, that would've been meme'd to death!
I have strider 2 for the ps1
Why is all your gameplay footage so choppy? People will think games were running in 10fps back then.
It just seems odd to me that someone would put something out there as a "History of Strider", but have errors and omissions. These things call into question the rest of the piece. so how did you like the new strider
I actually gotten the chance to play it yet! D=
I keep having to use my money for other things. Soon though! SOON!
its 8 bucks on steam right now
Richard Garcia I can't get it on steam. I have to have it for a normal console. Im not a PC gamer at all! Im sure my wallet hates me for saying that, but thats how its always been lol
***** The developers did a superb job with the game. If you're a Strider fan in any regard, I strongly recommend it.
Loren Helgeson I've been taking a look at it lately. Maybe I'll be getting it soon!
What about the PS3 game?
So basically his ninja gaiden x megaman?
Good video. I'm going to post your video on EventHubs. Hopefully
