While at Basic Training, you'll be expected to make your rack (bed, bunk) daily. Watch as the sergeant shows you how to do it.
Please rate, comment or subscribe.
And after we make these perfect beds, we take our sleeping bags and sleep on the floor
so we dont fail inspection LOL
Yeah, in reality becoming soldier means you learn to sleep everywhere you can even on the floor.
Reminds me of Boy Scouts. When joining the O.A. You sleep outside without a tent.
I slept with only the blanket
And then you get caught and punished...
and once we were sleeping under our beds corporal came in and flipped the beds
I'm gonna get smoked LMFAO

@@theironknight7207 good luck to you
Just practice
I honestly grew up making my bed this way. My moms always called it "hospital folding" but I also have retired marines in my family so that's probably where she learned it from.
Same it comes in handy though
this makes me want to sleep on the floor
Won't do any good, if they find you didn't sleep in your bed they will toss it for you, along with everybody else's bed that was made that morning and have everyone make their beds again. There is always that one smartaleck that sleeps on top and screws it up for everybody as well, at least once.
FoolishDoug so whats wrong with that? If you dont want to use the blankets and that how you sleep?
jfresko10 It's not about how you sleep, it's about not wanting to make your bed so you sleep on top of it or on the floor to preserve the bed. Toss your bed before nightly inspection, re-make it when everyone else does in the morning.
It saves everybody in the barracks an interruption and extra work that could have been avoided.
+Roman Wanna go bowling?
😂
I remember coming back to the barracks from training only to see almost every single bed on the floor or flipped sideways, boots laying everywhere, etc... Every bed but the two in one bunk. Mine and battle's bunk. Our shit was sitting there as pristine as we'd left it: Squared as fuck away, left as an example for the others. Then like three days later EVERYONE got tossed just because...
you gotta do this really fast while have to take a piss really badly, you'll probably try to sleep while covering yourself with the dust cover as to not disturb the mattress haha
Can you do that or do they make you remake it regardless?
@@gunlover5564 The DI's will flip their shit and smoke you if they catch you sleeping over the covers.
@@ahyote4936 that’s bs
do they let yuo go to the head in the middle of the night if you have too ?
We had some trainees try to sleep atop the blankets as to not disturb their covers, but our Drill Sergeants would simply come through in the middle of the night and tell those who did to get beneath their covers.
Its an art.
looking back on all these tip videos, it doesn't really matter if you know it or not. Everyone is gonna learn it at basic, yeah it's nice to get a head start BUT it's not life or death if you don't know how to make a bed before basic
I just wanna pretty much master everything I can beforehand so that I can perform good, although I know either way I am going to get yelled at a lot lol

My mom makes her bed this way. She taught me how to do it when I was younger and I was supposed to make my bed like it every morning after I got out of bed. I eventually stopped when I was a teenager. I honestly had no idea it was the military way until a few months ago.
about 10 min if i remember correctly, and your bunk mate has to do it too, so if you finish yours early, help him with his
Okay do this while lights are still out in the morning. You have your bunk mate still asleep cause no bed is open out in the middle as most beds are pressed against the back of a wall locker so 9 times out of 10 you will have to move your bed out while your battle buddy is sleeping. The pillow doesn't always flattened. Our bunk beds didn't have closed edges on the beds as more of a open however we did have a personal locker beneath the bed. Oh yes try sleeping on the floor at night or on top of the covers or using another extra cover and enjoy the front leaning rest position as the drill Sergeant will do check ups at night with the fireguard team. Welcome to BCT.
I used extra covers and slept on top of the sheets and my drill sergeants didn't do anything at all
Idk about that one anymore 😂 my boyfriend has been in the military the last 7years and he said one day his unit decided to get up early and make beds and be ready for the DS. They got smoked for taking initiative 😭😭😭😭
If this tempo is our bootcamp 10 years from now, we are screwed.
Thanks for this! I'm leaving for encampment in a week and this was my biggest worry!
cant help but muse if after arriving it still remained your biggest worry..))
Ahh those good ol 45’s. Went to boot a couple years ago. Got hurt stayed in RCU for 16 weeks before I could resume my training. Those 45’s are seared into my mind lol
Looks different than the way I learned in boot camp 1978. We folded the blanket into a square and placed it at the foot end, then took the edge of the top layer and folded it back at a 45 so that it formed a triangle. Also used only one sheet with equal hangover at the head and feet, and the sides. Then you tuck the ends, then the sides to make the hospital corners. For the pillow we folded the open end on top of the pillow and made triangles on the two sides of the folds.
I’m already getting smoked before I get there 🤦🏾♀️😂
russian chinese bot says what
He makes it look so easy but it's gotta be something to get use to.
I had to do this at the academy every Monday morning. It wasn't just me, either. I had the guy on the bottom bunk trying to do his as we were rushing to get it done before formation. We didn't even have to sleep in the beds as we were not required to stay there, but they wanted then made each Monday morning.
Try having to do it EVERYDAY lol sure you got it now though
Annnnnd this is where I know I'm going get smoked by my drill instructor.
I appreciate this when I understood it's purpose. It's not only to look neat IMO, it also is wrinkle free if done correctly. This leads to "attention to detail", because you will know if someone tampered with it. From sitting down to placing a pair of shoes on top of the bed.
No it's just part of the dicipline. It's part of learning to be extremely detailed in anything you do.
@@TheOneanjel I believe we're on the same page
Like many we too slept on top to speed up things in the morning. I recall we had one blanket, it was gray and 100% wool so scratchy haha. You learned to deal with it as you were so tired when you finally got to hit the rack.
Will i get smoked if i try sleeping on the floor?
@@jeffersongarcia8257 most likely. But you probably know that now😅
We scored some extra blankets and slept on top of the covers. Just had to give them a little tug here and there to get them looking good. Also slept in our togs so we could fall out asap in the morning.
At that point I’m just sleeping on top of all of it 😂
You will still have to make your make your bed the drill instructor will toss your bed even if it’s neatly made either because someone did their bed wrong or because they know you are being lazy and not doing things right.
Don't do that. You'll get the entire barracks tossed and then everyone, including you will have to make your bed again. Don't be that guy
lol hahah nice strat
I don’t have any plans on joining the military or anything. I think this is just cool
not if u are do it w\o interest in, twice or more each day. day by day.
The longest 3 minutes and 36 seconds of my life
not as long as reading this stupid ass comment
@@SD-de4do Reading the comment took me three seconds
Hate to admit this but I failed navy boot camp 4 years ago because of this shit literally, I had no trouble with the screaming and pressure, swimming, or exercises but embarrassingly my whole crew kept getting punished because of me and a few other guys like the last three weeks of boot camp, I have the fuck up and got out, I hate myself now and I hate looking back at this failed moment in my life, fuck even folding the clothes a certain way was such a pain in the ass. I didn’t want to get sent back in another division or have my team hate me so I felt like I had no other choice. Good luck to those who are joining though you can do it
They will destroy me at basic
Did they
So how’d it go?
They fucking killed him
@@codyp9208 they fucking did
Hahahaha 🤣
once it's made sleep on top with just the dust cover so it's already made in the morning just have to straighten it out a bit
Thought I was the only doing that😂
I'm OCD so make my bed like this for fun. It's so satisfying when every thing is all smooth. 😌😌
The way we were taught was a little different but it came out the same my ds showed us a easier way
Im enlisting in October never had a bedbefore ive never had to use this before thanks for the video
Bunk or rack not bed lol
I'm going to staple my bed this way to my bunk
+Scuba Steve they'll stab u wiith the saples lol
Holy Shit that's DS Medders, he was my DS back in 09 (the guy talking, not the dark green DS)
Gets a temper-pedicure commercial on this video
Me: „Yeah right“
I've wrapped birthday presents with less effort and precision than this. 😂
My time in basic training, once I got that down pack, I just slept on it so the next day I just gotta make sure smooth
There was always that one guy that no matter what could make a dang rack correctly
Well I should watch this 30 times so I know how when I join the marines. Haha
More than 30! I did Marine OCS and it'll save some unnecessary motivation later.
In 2003 I slept on top of my perfectly made bunk….. had boot blousers underneath pulling the covers extra tight and I had a extra dust cover I kept in the ceiling tiles😂🤣😂 never got caught🙌🏾 but I did get caught with my CD player during a shakedown 🤦🏾♂️😅🤣
That rack may be good for Basic, but would not pass inspection in an Infantry unit. Those hospital corners sucked and the dust cover was not S.O.P. We used an iron, starch and blousing bands to make a proper rack and I sleep on the floor in my sleeping bag. Much easier at first call.
When I was in basic training for infantry in ft Benning the drill Sgts never checked our beds at least the platoon I was in
My 1st captain and engineer were prior military in the fire dept and they would always check my bed to make sure it was proper. Every time I see an improper bed made i hear them in the back of my mind saying you nlbest unfuck yourself and make this bed right. And iIf you need a wooden spoon for the corners where gonna beat you harder in training.
What a mission ...
Good old days. I was in the Army, in the early 1990's. In this video, I see the name of platoon: 'Spartans'. Mine was 'Outlaws'.
Now that is satisfying.
Great work
Those were the days!
Aren't you supposed to take out a 50-cent coin and flip it on to the rack? If the rack's tautness is correct, then the coin is supposed to bounce at least about 2 inches high.
I got to remember this for boot camp
After about the 3rd morning nun of us slept under our blankets just used our woobie so you just have to make minor spot corrections 👌🏾
Thats so lazy. I wouldn't brag about it.
@@TheOneanjel so is your wife but hey whose complaining
This video was helpful
wow people say that they will sleep on the floor because this takes too long & for my childhood I had to do that every time I go to sleep & wake up.
and you had no time limit or repercussions if it wasn't up to snuff by the judging party.
Somehow it turned into ASMR looking at him smoothing out any wrinkles
We learned how to do this in Heath occupation at school
lol he's wearing a pt vest xD
Nice.
I love it. I’ll put it on loop and go to sleep. Haaa
You can cheat and put boot blouses on the bottom of the bed so it will never move :)
That's what I do
How do you fold the towels that goes on the railing of the bunk bed?
I'm going to JROTC Camp next week and do not know how to do it.
I won't never mess my bed at all.
damn yankees you got it easy best regards the finnish army
Who?
Ha ha, plenty wrinkles left to see 👀 🤣 at the end
Im gonna get chewed for this
It's like origami but with blankets.
Part of me would just sleep outside. What’s the point of all this if when you’re at war there’s no beds to be comfortable in. Honest question, I’d feel like I’d rather set up a sent and sleep on dirt.
hell: imagine waking up at 5 am on a 10degree day having to walk to school 2 miles to take 4 finals but before you leave you must make this military style bed first and youre already late as it is
5 am is late holy shit i’m lucky
And you probably went to bed 2 am
Who else was a kid of a military parent and had to do their beds like this??? Lol just me? Okay. Haha my mind is blown with how it’s now normal for me to do this since I was little and didn’t realize my mom inherited this from the army.
Why is he wearing a reflective vest?
I recently went underway on a ship as a civilian contractor, and had never been before. The guy across from me had his bunk made this way, mine was horrible.
do they teach you this in basic or are you expected to know by heart?
I think they teach you
They show you one time. If they show more than once you're probably being singled out for extra motivation and being yelled at. At least in Marine Corps
I’m ready start practicing this with a sheet on my bed whew chile
attention soldiers this is a spy
I slept on top of mine when i was in ait
What dust cover?! I’ve been RSP through ALC and was never issued one.
I remember people sleeping on top of their bed so they wouldn't have to make their bed every morning. Just a quick smoothing over
You do it like once and thats it never have to do it again
Sleep above the covers
Do you have a buddy that helps you? Because I see Air Force they have two people helping each other making their bed
Nah bro. If you or your battle buddle finishes early, youd be nice to help each other
Im pretty sure that's not a thing. You would get some kind of punishment if you needed help with your bed.
how long do they give you ?
How else is here so they don’t get smoked later?
Trust me guys. You can make your bed just as perfect as this guy did in this video and they still will find something wrong with it. Don't bother practicing because they will never be satisfied.
They test the tightness they get a coin and if they drop it and it doesnt bounce off then its not tight enough and they tear your sheets off and make you redo it lmao
Bastards
i will be watchingn this til my shipping date
Damion Fince 4 yrs later how did it go for you? i ship dec 06
7 years later, how did it go?
8 years later, how did it go?
Yep, im definitely getting smoked for this😂
is this possible with just the mattress on the floor? no frame
Yes
How much time do they give you to make the bed?
Sometimes I sleep on the floor just so I don't have to do it in the morning
I don't think I could get this down lol
Why don't they just use fitted sheet on the bottom to make it easier? lol
short cuts get you killed that's why. there is a reason for everything they do.
The military isn't supposed to be easy
+Daniel Coran
I know someone who was in the national gaurd and he had tattoos on his hands and arms.
can one just sleep on top of their bed ?
1SadBoxer yes if you like doing push ups
This is what I’m most scared of tbh...
how much time do u get to do this in the morning at navy basic? seems like it'll take as while lol
Can't learn to make a bed if you don't sleep on one
Anyone else getting destroyed at basic?
Do they teach you this in RSP?
and how much time do they have to make this perfect bunk? aahaha
I went through basic and AIT, and I still couldn't grasp the concept. Seems easy enough, except when a Drill Sergeant is screaming at you to make your bed, shit, shower and shave before O dark 30 PT.
😄
How's it going?
thats exakliy how my bed looks
I would have made my bed faster than that. I learned bedmaking techniques in a boarding convent school which the nuns ran like an army.
Bullshit im sleeping on the floor.
thats how i leanred it in basic.. then i went to AIT.. completely different :/
+PFC. Cavazos What are the differences?
