I seriously don’t expect to LOVE every lesson but just when I thought you couldn’t top the last one - you do! There go all my other projects, this is pure gold, Brian! (And you’re the golden goose 😉)
Another brilliant lesson Brian. The first 6 minutes of this video highlighted exactly why I love Active Melody, an understandable mix of theory, using your ears and focusing on the actual music. It is also refreshing to see a teacher who is also learning every day like the rest of us. Your obvious passion for improving is so great to be part of.
Hey thanks loads for turning me on to Tony Joe White. Hadnt heard of hum before and now cant get enough. Thanks from a huge JJ Cale fan, orininally from the UK, now an Australian citizen, livung in Saudi ☺👍
Great lesson, I like how you showed the Dorian mode in practical use! I think that you nailed JJ Cale approach to lead soloing! He is often mixing Dorian mode with the blues scale, and minor and major pentatonics, of course. I also heard him use mixolydian mode, more than once... Some tasty chromatic runs too.
The moment you mentioned, JJ, Bonnie and BB I was fan. Just my favourites since I was a teenager, I am now 28 and these guitarist just make my days so much better. Listen to JJ almost everyday! Besides that, great video, thanks! Subscribed!!!
Brian...GOOD playing! Nice Strat, too! Your playing definitely has that J.J. Cale/Tony Joe White (2 of my all-time FAVORITE guitarists, by the way) vibe to it.
Great lesson as usual, Brian. Nice to have another Cale style lesson, I'm with you all the way on him and Tony Joe, he's my absolute favourite artist (and even my wife likes him, we don't often see eye to eye on music). Any chance of some more JJ Cale lessons, I think I'm his reincarnation but I just can't play like him?
It has to work, because d dorian mode contains all the notes from a minor pentatonic :) If you think about it, d dorian has also all the notes from e minor/G major pentatonics, which means you can use them as well, and there will be no "wrong" notes. :D thanks for your observation!
Yes, they are in D major pentatonic, but why would he have to mention that? I mean it doesn't have much to do with the key we're in in this video anyway. I don't want to come off as rude, I'm just curious why would you mention D major? It's clearly d minor in here. These two notes are in many different scales. If you think about it, they are also in A major pentatonic... or E major pentatonic. But it doesn't help much with improvising, as much as I'm concerned.
That would be superb indeed... I feel like Chet Atkins also had an amazing sense of melody making. He was perhaps more advanced advanced technically, but also could pull off very simple yet tasty licks.
Thanks so much.Hi Brian,I m self want to buy premium yearly/$69? If so, I will register and pays .i don’t have any credit card .i am from Asian regions and want to transfer in cash, but how to?W/U? Please suggest ,Thanks.

Excellent lesson ! Thank you so much ! I love your sound... 🤩
J J Cale, a laid back style, but still grabs you and moves you, and totally unique. Thanks for the insight.
Another Sooper lesson!! Lots of Light Bulb moments for me !! 😊👏👏🎸🎸👍

@@activemelody Oh thank you! You made my day!
Great feel/tone com’n off that thumb and fingers-ya JJ is super chill smil’n guy hav’n fun
Love it! Keeps me wanting to play and never give up.
Super description of the theory that puts this as C major scale, played w/ D (the 2) as “root”
D Dorian => G Mixolydian => C Major
Excellent timing. I was just listening to the Naturally album this morning. Thank you!!!
Amazing lesson I’m really understanding the guitar better many thanks brian
Love the colors it brings to the solo

Never heard of Tony Joe White. Thanks for mentioning him, started to listen to him on youtube.
Yeah man - he's great! Glad you found him. Recently passed away unfortunately.
This makes me want to move back to Nashville to take lessons from you.
Perfect. Just listened to the Naturally album a couple of days ago. This is now going on my to do list. 👍🏼
this is great. smart but unpretentious. Your tune is cool and as enjoyable as a JJ song.
JJ needs more credit man that kinda playing is really good and not that popular
That it all belonged to the C major scale was a, the penny dropped for me moment. Brilliant thanks a lot.

Beautiful!
It seems like the A minor pentatonic works over it also. Great lesson thanks !

The two added notes are also in the Dmaj pentatonic scale (didn't catch if you mentioned that one). Thank you for the lesson.

Man that solo was fucking dope
Nice Brian! So smooth . P.s. Your hair is looking more like Clapton by the day!
🤯lol! Great lesson Brian👍🎸🇨🇦
Mark Knopfler too.
Nice melody Brian where ya been?
I haven't gone anywhere?
Great lesson Brian as usual, any chance of doing Chet Atkins style lesson please?
That would be superb indeed... I feel like Chet Atkins also had an amazing sense of melody making. He was perhaps more advanced advanced technically, but also could pull off very simple yet tasty licks.
I must be different.........lolrofl........Larry is a household name in my house just like Joe Settlemire from OKC........I live in NC........
Reminiscent of Mark Knofler; a little...
Knofler was hugely influenced by Cale....
NO ONE can emulate JJ Cale! Even not you!
