  • Princeton, KY is a city known for beautiful homes and a rich history, but in 1906, a near-civil war almost destroyed the community. Nestled in an area known as the black patch tobacco region for its brand of burley, local farmers felt they were being cheated by the monopolistic practices of national tobacco companies. In an effort to raise prices, these farmers took up arms, dressing in hoods and robes, and setting fire to warehouses filled with other tobacco. They would even attack neighboring farms that did not support their cause. This became known as the Black Patch Tobacco Wars, and it would take a Governor stepping in to bring peace to the region.

I can remember hearing a little bit about the Night Riders and the Tobacco Wars when I was a kid. Good video, it's great to learn about local history.

Why do you call it “tabacca” instead of tobacco.
