Very helpful videos, the only person who actually provides information and not just endless drone videos and basic tourist information. I hope you continue doing it, the numbers will come as you deserve way more exposure. :)
New subscriber , I've watched a few of your videos today, great insight 👍. I have plans to live in Thailand in 10 years - retirement. I'm currently planning, as with anything life changing these things need meticulously attention. I've been coming to Thailand for almost 20 years, on and off for holidays.
I live in Phuket in a small service apartment, there is a swimming pool and a restaurant on the property, the cleaner comes twice a week. It costs 10,000 baht a month including electricity, internet, and water. There are villas available in Phuket as well but there is no reason to pay that much money for a place to sleep, IMHO.
We did exactly that when we lived in Phuket and had jobs we needed to go to every day. For us, it isn't just a place to sleep. We both work from home so spent a lot of time here. We need two separate spaces to work from where we don't disturb each other.
What's your opinion on these monthly costs? Are you living in Thailand or did you live here in the past? Please share your opinions on the prices and your experiences. ;-)
Great video mate and very useful for me as I'm moving to Samui in August. You're house is stunning. I'm looking forward to house hunting in Samui when I arrive! I'll be in touch with your agent to see if she can help me.
Thanks Mike. Honestly , I think the standard of accommodation here is great. We've been here two months and I've fell in love with it just like I did Phuket. Have you spent much time in Samui in the past?
Hello, thank you for the upload. @10:41 How often are power cuts? What time do they occur... like 5pm? Middle of the night is the power usually on? It's hard to sleep without AC. Thanks again!
@Always on a Journey Yes, my wife and I just moved to Samui last week. I actually had my first traditional Thai massage 2 days ago. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I did enjoy it, and I will get another. But for now, I will stick to regular oil massages :D Great job on the videos, and keep showing the world this beautiful island! Cheers!
A good rundown of how much it costs. A lot of expats do need to take in account how much it costs to go out and drink though More expensive than England in some ways.
@@AlwaysonaJourney oh I see that's amazing. I am from the UK and have dreamed of living in Thailand for a year. Having looked at the visas, it seems impossible to visit for more than a couple of months! Of course now things are even more complicated. Thanks for getting back, most kind.
Andrew, l have watched many videos on budgets in Thailand l have to say yours is one of the best I have seen. Your budget shows realistic numbers for a comfortable lifestyle. Other ting l would add to your budget is for haircuts and a miscellaneous amount for unexpected expenses. We will make our budget higher as we would have a car, maintenance cost and higher gas bill. The fact you guys drink so little helps your budget. My husband likes good wine and l like beer so that makes a difference for us. With that being said l think we could have a good lifestyle in Thailand with a 100,000 baht monthly budget. Great video thank you so much for sharing. Ron
Thanks Ron.That's a very good point about haircuts. I didn't give that a thought. I'm going to keep an eye on my spending this month to see what else there is in the miscellaneous section. :-) do you think it's a possibility that you would ever live here in the future?
Thank you Andrew! Great video as always. I live in the US now and I have a best friend in BKK and planning to go visit her and may want to stay for a long term depending on my job from the US, I wanted to work for the same company but was wondering if that is possible if I get the VPN and work from home? I wanted to stay for a longer period like 3 to 6 months out of the year. I wanted to ask what is the best visa to get? And is the process complicated? Thank you in advance.
Hi Kelly. Yes, that would be possible. There's two options. If you decided to stay for only three months you could apply for a tourist visa. This gives you 60 days , then you can extend for an additional 30 days. Option 2 - you can apply for an Education Visa for 6 or 12 months and study Thai. This costs between 20,000 and 45,000 THB. :-)
@@AlwaysonaJourney Thank you so much for your reply Andrew. If I decide to do Education Visa what is the process for that? What do I need? As always thank you.
Find a school and drop them an email or give them a call. Many schools allow you to study online now. You can start the process before you come to Thailand by making the payment and filling in the application forms which the school would email to you. It takes them a couple of weeks to process your application. Once you are in Thailand you'd then visit the school to pick up your papers which you'd then take to immigration with your passport and they'd process your application which takes about another two weeks.
I don't not know the answer to your question. I'm not familiar with the hotel's that are available. When you find a hotel you like, send them a quick email to double check. I love a good buffet breakfast as well. 😉
We are also planning to move to koh samui, I want to know how elementary education is? Do foreign countries generally choose international schools? How is law and order?
Hi Selena. I don't know a great deal about the law and order here in Koh Samui. With regards to education yes most students usually attend an international school. I'm not familiar with any of the schools in Koh Samui.. I'm familiar with the schools in Phuket as I previously worked in one of them. ;-)
For my tourist visa application part that asks for "Proof of accommodation in Thailand, e.g. Accommodation bookings." Does it absolutely have to be the ASQ hotel confirmation or can I use the hotel confirmation that I am only staying 2 nights at? PLEASE HELP ME I AM LOST.
Hi Fabio . You should use the first address you will stay at when you arrive in Thailand. You will need to show confirmation of that booking. So, that would be your ASQ hotel.
I live in Jomtien Pattaya in a 10,000baht a month condo with my Thai girlfriend, it’s 50sgm right on the beach, only use a fan as am on a high floor and get the sea breeze. We hardly drink any alcohol, internet is free, I self insure, maybe about 600baht for the phone, electric is around 500baht and water 140baht a month, so amazing deal. There are great restaurants here, so maybe I spoil myself a few times a week on that, and bought my own motorbike for 20,000. Would spend more if we travel, but because of the situation haven’t been doing much. I don’t think for the quality of life there are many places in the world that you will find for the value imo! Oh eating at home and odds and ends around 15,000baht a month!
Excellent. Thanks Roy. It's good of you to share your costs here. It's nice for everyone to get an idea of the different costs and option available. ;-)
Many expats have lived in Thailand on much less happily for years. How many foreigners spend that much money on rent alone in Thailand? Happiness has zero to do with how much money you can spend in a month. Personally, I did not move halfway around the world to hang with other foreigners, eat the very food I left behind, live a lifestyle 99.999999% of Thais could never afford and a good portion of retired expats on a fixed income. For that amount of money spent money you could live about anywhere in the world. But hey if the if you can afford to spend $3,000 or more a month on basics knock yourself out. The majority of the human race can not.
