Crazy how Tacitus observed us, took words like *Kuningaz and *Hundarada, translated them to rex and centenus. And now nearly two thousand years later, we again translate them back to their descendants, King and Hundred.
I'm also going out on a limb and say that principi must be translated to a 'head'. And a battalion is a thousand. How come? In Hervor and Heidreks saga they actually lay out how an army was composed about 500 years after Tacitus account. But it still was based on the hundred, and every thirteen hundred made a thousand, and every thousand had a 'höfðingi, a head, much like the current German Hauptmann.
Also a dux can be historically and etymologically traced back to be a 'Hertog/Herzog' *harjatogo. Dux having remained the latin translation for this word ever since and still is. What you English call Duke, we call Hertog. And the name literally means 'army tugger/puller' which perfectly describes the role that Tacitus lays out in this work.

@@wrongthinker4475 The English had two chances to fight for Europe and against the hegemony of international finance in the first half of the 20th century. They betrayed the people of Europe and fought underneath the banner of international capital and the certain population often overrepresented in positions of politics, wealth, and media that benefits the most from it. Look at the modern state of Europe today. England is largely to blame for that, America and Russia very well may never have conquered mainland Europe had England not declared war on Germany in WWII.

A bit outdated, but nevertheless an indispensable primer for those thinking of visiting Greater Germany. Contrary to popular stereotype, Germans are actually quite unpunctual, and you can feel free to show up to meetings any time within several moons of the pre-arranged time. If you have clothing, you may feel free to wear it, but it is not required in more casual establishments, and a cape is fine.

It's too bad this 'red hair' myth persists because the public translation translated Rutilus to red. When it should rather translate to a flaxen color.
There's also a Greek account of the German people l, unfortunately forgot the name of, uses a word that much more clearly translates to yellow.
This may seem like a small thing to some. But this translation would suggest we look different from our ancestors, and that the golden locks come from another place and in another time, they don't.
We still look mostly the same as our ancestors did before us. Albeit somewhat twisted by our environments with our mouthbreathing and allergies.
