In Sweden we get a letter from the state, saying this is what you earned, this is what you paid in taxes, this is what you have to pay extra or what you get back. I just sign it (logged in on their website), taxes done. Usually it takes a minute or two, depending on how much I want to read 😀

It’s pretty much the same in Denmark. Only if you have a second job you have to write how many hours you been working and also if you drive your car, train , bus whatever to work at least 20000km a year you have to write how many km and depending on how much you been driving you get a certain amount of money back in your taxes.

when the Uk National Health Service was being created, one of the first things it implemented was free contraception. The logic being that if you can't afford condoms or the pill then how will you afford to raise a child?
You can still buy condoms in chemists or even the supermarket as well but they're free from health clinics. In Scotland we also have free sanitary products available from health centres too so every one can deal with periods with dignity.

Since the ancestors of Americans today came from all over the world it's surprising to me that they don't take this oppurtunity to learn about the world in school by letting students find out their ancestry and research a presentation of that country a little bit of history etc.
Here in Sweden in 7th grade my class had the assignment to, for example, speak to an elder, could be a relative or someone at a nursing home etc, about either ww1 or ww2 and how that time was for them.
We learned so much, especially from one guy in the class who's grandfather had been a soldier in the Finnish winter war. Also to hear about all these elders reaction when they said on the radio ww2 was finally over.
It brings families together for conversation, it peaks an interest for the student to gather information, they find out about their own history and everybody learns a lot. And elders always have such interesting stories that will soon be lost if they aren't told

One of funniest things that happened to me when I was an exchange student in 1990: I bought a pair of Converse All Stars, we had them in the Netherlands and I loved them (still do!) but they were so much cheaper in the US. An old women asked me if it wasn't hard for me to walk on sneakers, I had no idea what she meant. Then she said: in stead of wooden shoes? She genuinely thought that all Dutch people wore wooden shoes all the time! I didn't even correct her, I just said: I am learning mam.

I totally agree with what the first woman said.
Individually, Americans are some of the most wonderful people i have ever met.
    Warm, hospitable, kind and generous.
When i was in America i was actually invited to stay at a familys house for a few days, with their whole dang family, as a part of their family.
    It was heartwarming and wonderful!
Pretty much made me think extremely highly of Americans when i was younger.
Plus, you clearly understand how to have the BEST time one could ask for in terms of entertainment!
Imo many the best movies, shows and many of the best games in the world come from the US. Or have their directors or producers origins tied to the US.
I owe so much joy and fun to American creators or American entertaiment teachings, man. I could write a whole essay about the impact it has had on my life and what it has helped me through.
Cheers to all of them for making life that much more enjoyable and making dreams a reality!
Made me think that they were what i wished that all people should be like.
Individually, Americans are some of the kindest and most wonderfully optimistic people i have ever met. The family and Americans i have met in my life. The entertainment industry Americans have built and the AMAZING individuals that has made ut to what it is today.
They made Americans look damn near perfect in my youth. Like the best people in the whole dang world. The kindest and the coolest, for sure.
But, this was before the Bush administration.
Before the "War of Terror" or as it more honestly should be know: the unlawful invasion, occupation and vilification of everyone in the Middle East.
The war that was orchestrated in order to try and vesselise a puppet government (like in the past) in order to gain control of the worlds oil trade, poorly disquised as a "liberation mission".
It was also before the American population showed us, the whole world.
That they think that Trump is the true embodiment of what America should be in current time...
That HE and what HE represents and stands for is what they want America to be in the future.
That proved to me that I needed to start looking at Americans with another perspective in mind. I needed to start studying your nations history and learn what Americans actually are, what you actually come from, what made you the way that you are. Which shocked me.
Which has honestly shocked me beyond belief.
I won't go into all of that here. It will be just way to much to write and read. But what i will say as a summary.
For as wonderful US Americans might be as individuals, you are the paradoxical opposite as a nation and that is fucking WEIRD!
How can such good, kind people condone such horrid, evil acts like the US has done and keeps doing all over the world?
I don't understand how so many genuinelly wonderful people can be a part of something so damn evil. A nation should be represented by its people, right?
Why isn't the US like its people?

Aussie here. As an employee a percentage of my pay is deducted as tax every payday We have to fill in a "tax return" once a year which can now be done online. The tax office has all your earnings details so most of the details are pre filled in and you just need to make any amendments needed and make extra claims of work related expenses that can be paid back to you. And digital copiez of receipts etc can be attached as proof of expenditure. Hit send. Thats it. Job done. Most people get some money back. Its not often that Joe Citizen has to repay money.

In Australia we do a tax return at the end of the financial year (June 30th) but for most people it is a form that you use to see if you can get some money back for things you can claim like expenses in your job, family benefits etc. Sometimes however you can end up owing tax. You might find checking out how Aussie democracy works interesting, it's very different from almost everywhere else, I'm biased I think it's the best around.

I am from Portugal in the EU, regarding taxes I receive a document from work showing how much I earned & discounted to social security over that year, I also always provide my taxpayer number on every bill/invoice (doctor, dental, car being serviced or repaired, etc). When its time to do the taxes, I login to government website & go over the numbers already there, if all checks out I validate it & that's pretty much it. The only delay is if many people are trying to access site at same time to do the same but overall I have it all done in less then 20 min.

The most scary thing about living in America for me is that if I hear a gun shot I won't take cover and panic because I would know how far away was the gunshot. I could tell it could be two blocks over and I won't panic. I'll stay away from the widows so I don't get hit by a stray bullet. This is what living in America have done to me. Also I don't live in violent ghetto neighborhoods. I live in quiet neighborhoods and one in a while I would hear a gunshot.

Taxes in Slovenia: yes, the tax office calculates "informative" taxes for me. It includes information how much I already payed (my company pays tax from my salary each month to the tax office) and how much I still owe or how much I overpaid it. I get this "informative" version via post and If they forgot something, or made a mistake, I can correct them and send back (on their web page - we can digitally submit data or via regular post or in person). If "informative" version is ok, you don't need to do anything, it counts like you agree with the tax calculation. If you owe some money, they will send you a bill, so you can pay, if you overpaid, they just transfer money on my bank account. I honestly just forget every year that taxes exist till the moment I get this informative calculus. And even then I just scan it through in do nothing, I have zero work with taxes - they usually get everything correct. :D Also my company calculates very correct how much I need to pay from my salary (and they pay in my name), so I usually have balance 0€ every year.

Taxes in Europe work in various ways, especially if you are self-employed. We all go to accountants (unless we have specifically learned how to do them, but generally it is not a required skill as most of the full-time and part-time jobs, WILL pay that for you and just give you your NET salary). I have needed to do my taxes, obviously with an accountant just after I got married and became a parent as there are different rates where I live for single, parent, and married people(without children). We get tax return forms if the employer doesn't do it automatically. All you have to do is go to the tax department and give some documents from the employer and they calculate it for you.

1, I like your discussions, as it is for me a road to follow your thoughts on a subject ☺ and especially with this reaction video, I'd love to be your neighbor...
2, in most of Europe (as far as I know 🤷‍♀️), as an employer your taxes are paid through the company (it's their duty to calculate them).
3, Math ... I've learned several ways to do calculations and as a tutor myself, I practice the version with my student, which the teacher recommends, as it is easier for said teacher to keep an eye on the progress the pupils make all together. That said, if I recognize a problem in the combination of method/student I write a letter or talk to the teacher and change the method (btw. this can also be done by the parents). Normally the change is no problem - as long as the result stays the same 😉
Should you be interested in this topic, I can recommend the channel "My merry messy life", where there is a video just on Math 😃
4, Your education system overall ... well let's say, it definitely needs some enormous updates (or perhaps reviving 🤔). There should be mandatory civic lessons in the curriculum, and yes world geography ...
I personally lived in 5 different countries during my childhood (Europe, USA, middle east, Africa) and visited at least 10 more for a longer period. I'll still mix up the Capital cities from Europe's northern countries and, please, don't start with the "new" countries after the USSR fell apart (geography is my weak point ☺), but I learned to respect every culture. The most baffling to me, is the way the USA has all this diverse cultural roots and seems to only accept them mingling food wise (Pizza, Tacos somebody?).
    Take care - Europe ⚘

in germany, taxes are automatically deducted from the salary. we don't have to worry about anything. it's the same with insurance. what is special about insurance: every employer has to pay about the same insurance fees as the employee. So if I pay 100 euros for health insurance, the employer has to pay the same amount for me. once a year we do an annual payroll tax adjustment. we fill out forms with our income, taxable expenses and tax deductible items. and if we have paid too much tax, then we get money back. or we just have to pay extra. Incidentally, our health system is not free either. we also pay money through our taxes. we pay for health insurance, pension insurance, unemployment insurance, accident insurance and long-term care insurance. we call it social security.

no, we file tax returns here in Canada - we have from March 1 to April 30 to file our personal tax returns. some people get "returns" for their tax contributions - when you are an hourly employee you have CPP. EI (unemployment insurance) and Income tax taken off your gross pay earned - also here in Canada - your CPP premium taken off your pay is then charged to your employer (1.4 times what they deduct from your cheque) and EI premiums have the employer pay $3,14 for each $1 dollar from your cheque. Employers also pay premiums for provincial health system based on the annual payroll amounts. we also have Worker's Compensation - a system which is supposed to help workers injured on the job - also another employer expense for having employees. our systems are not perfect but we accept the payments for our benefits as a nation.

In NZ, income tax is deducted from your salary be it paid weekly or fortnightly. All I need to do is save all the payslips and when end of financial year comes around, the Inland Revenue ppl will send me a reminder to check that everything is OK and if I need to let them know (eg. Self-employed or employer) for any deductions, just press submit and that's it. They do give me some time like 3 months to make sure everything's 👍. Compared to the US 🇺🇸 with 14 pages long (why can't you simplify it) to ours with I think less than 5 pages. I think it's a win-win.
Sometimes there's a refund, very rarely though like last tax filing, I got a refund of $500. Your tax system is archaic. Why can't you get your govt to file it for you, they already know how much you earn... its so easy!!

I'm in the UK and the only people who have to do their own taxes here are those who are self-employed. So if you own and operate a restaurant, for example, you have to manually do your taxes and send them off. Everyone else's taxes are done for them by the government and they send you a letter if they take too much and give the excess back to you.

That is a difference between Canadians and Americans. In Canada eating “good” means healthy. Eating friend chicken and junk food, although it may be tasty, is considered “bad eating habits”. Very few people actually own a deep fryer here(not to say we never deep fry things, some people do, but it’s not a common type of food for people to eat or cook).

Firstly, every American I have ever met has been a beautiful and humble person. Love the posts you both create as a fairly new member.
As a Social Worker, it depends on what you watch here as to what the USA looks like. There is nothing wrong with America except for the politicians, who quite frankly make your country look unstable and an absolute shit show circus. Like much of the world we watched the last election, because it was more interesting than any reality TV show.
Anywhere else in the world, politicians are elected to represent the community and make for a safer space with better outcomes, yet, USA seem to be about their political career over effective policy and their citizens wellbeing.
We know your health care is awful, alarmingly there seems to be a passive acceptance about that.
America is powered by white wealth that serves the purposes of those who deserve to be looked after. It's no different here in Australia, and I am saying that as a white male on a great salary.

We have PAYE Pay As You Earn where your tax is adjusted, at the end of the financial year the tax office sends a form telling you what you have earned and how much tax you have paid. So this year I paid £1300 too much tax so I got that back from the tax office as a lump sum. In years gone past they have asked if I just wanted to not pay tax for a few months to make up my overpayment.

In the UK you only have to fill out taxes if you're self employed. And even then you can pay for an accountant and they'll spin it for you so you pay very little. I get paid weekly so my tax is paid weekly, around £40 on a £400 wage. On top of that is national Insurance which pays for my healthcare which is between 20 to 30 a week. Tax is also added before pont of sale so the price you see on the shelf is the price you pay at the checkout. Its so unbelievably easy. I'm not saying the uk is the est in the world cos I ha ent lived In another country, but America is one place I'd never want to live.

Math is my least favorite subject so here is what I remember lol. We were taught basic math systems such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fraction, time, etc., Then formula systems, statistics, calculus, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, differential equations, probability, and on. My last math class in college was statistics (the type of math is dependent upon the person's area of concentration). I think we were graduating high school when the "new math " was being introduced (over a decade ago).

You have to fill your taxes only If you have deductibles. I have never done mine because i never had any deductibles. The only thing i have to do is to make sure that my yearly incomelimit is enough. If not i have to calculate an estimate how much i will make and They will give me my new tax%. You can do that online and send it to your boss or the person who calculate you payroll.
This is just a regular worker. ITS a bit diffirent If you are an enterpeneur.

No in the UK we do not have to fill in a tax return form unless you are self employed because there are different rules to how tax is applied to self employed people but if you work at a company you get what we call PAYE which is pay as you earn this is a deduction from your monthly wage which covers your national insurance payment this is contriubution towards unemployment benefits nhs costs emergency services and just tax which is well tax. But then we have the local taxes now this is paid normally via direct debit my is just under 100 pounds a month Also here in the uk the price you see in a shop is exactly what you are going to pay vat or value added tax is included in that price you dont have to play a game of mental arthimatic to work out what your states tax is

About taxes in UK it's true. I live in UK and you have tax code based on youre salary if you are normal workers. Now tax code for most of the people is 1257l where is number is amount of money that is tax free. So 1257l is 12,570 pounds. If you earn less you don't pay tax so that was good for people who live in poor country to come here like for Christmas time to earn some cash and go back. You don;t fill any form or anything like that. Just by working and getting paid government know how much you earn so filling any form is pointless.

ok , taxes in the UK, if you work for some one like McDonalds, you get a pay slip, and they already took your tax, and payed it to the government, you dont need to fill in a tax form, but if you own your own business, you pay an accountant to check your tax form, and you pay the government each year, its called capitalism, the company is responsible for paying tax in the UK, not you, so self emplaoyed, pay the government, work for a company, they tack the tax before you get payed, its in your wage slip, company pays the government, and health care is included in that tax, and America could do this too.

Unless you are filing for deductions, expenses, self employment or business tax then yes Tax returns are fairly easy and mostly done for you. Mine was basically confirming identity, personal details and employment and submitting online. In Australia you are linked to the ATO (Australian tax office) via secure account so you can see all your tax information for each year. Same MYGOV account handles child support, medicare and government support agencies.

    Love most Americans.
The one thing that irritates me is that, most Americans I meet (I do live in a garrison city, and we have a lot of Americans come in)
They always bring up WWII and how they saved the world.
I'm not saying they didn't contribute (don't get me wrong)
WWII started on the 1st of September 1939. America didn't enter until, December 7 1941. Americans only entered after Pearl Harbor.
It's a shame that Americans aren't aware of World Casualties, the battles that most countries fought before and after Americans entered the war. 2 years after it started.

We have our taxes taken from your wages each week as well as your N.I national insurance this pays for every ones health and every one pays it , just not those that are in really bad health then its free to them , we pay a minimum cost at the chemists in England but it is all so free in many parts that find it hard to pay . Our taxes are taken to pay for many things like roads bins police fire and so on . All food prices you see on the shelfs in our supermarkets is the very same price you pay , as the value add tax is all ready added to the price, so you have all ready paid the tax on the goods ,so the price you see is the price you pay .across the board building materials, shopping petrol everything the tax is added to the price and you pay that price simple . It can get a little bit more complicated if your self employed or running a company , that when you need to talk to an accountant, and then he dose your tax returns , and then you can get a tax repayment, called a tax repair as you have paid to much tax or they ask you to pay more if they have to ask you questions then you can end up paying what ever is out standing from your books . You country America is treating every one as if they are self employed by making you do your own taxes, from which they can hang you from , plus it saves the goverment from having to do it as it stands , and saving so much money by making there citizens do there own taxes, and no to little working rights , your being con by your goverment people. ARE YOU AWAKE YET ⏰️
