at first I was like "sony tilt shift? or TS-E with metabones?" then I read the description and "okay, that was best lens whacking control I've ever seen!". Hats off, sir.
Bravo! Nicely shot, edited, scene selection, music, model, etc. Had to watch it twice. I'll have to watch it again tomorrow and pick up a ton of things I missed today. Can't believe some posters criticized the model. So pretty and full of life but the video was much more than just a model. Not all music has to be loud and danced to. Amazing! Thank you.
I know this is an old video but I've only just stumbled across it. I think I'm in love. The music, the subject, the emotion. My favourite shot is 3:17 WOW! I love the light/shadow on her face. I get such a mix of happiness and sadness from this. It's almost like a faded memory.
This is great Philip. I tried lens whacking with my d7000 and my 1.8 50mm and no matter how much I tried, it just didn't come close to this video. Hats off to you sir!
Wow, she is a stunner! And a fantastic video of course... Looking forward to the review of this interesting camera! It appeared to have decent low light performance. But then you make cameras look great! :)
I am a relative newbie when it comes to shooting, so please forgive my ignorance, but I just have to ask how you manage to capture moments that appear to be such REAL LIFE MOMENTS, without any camera shake at all (I know that it's an art form in and of itself, but your clips are incredible) I've done post production stabilization, but there's always a few frames that jump so severely that you just can't make them come out as smoothly as this clip is... and I can't see you walking around all over the place with a flycam
My opinion is, that there is way to much out of focus stuff. I prefer to have the shots clean in focus and not to play that much with depth of field. There is one thing that interests me alot. Did you use a script for this film? Or is it a random composition of handheld shots? Can't wait to see the review of the camera.
Hey Philip. The film looks great. I really love the colour. I have a project coming up where I'd like to use a similar grade. I use FilmConvert as well. This looks a lot like Fuji Velvia 100. What I really want to know though is how you put that great haze and flare. It'd be awesome if you could help me out. Cheers, Aditya
Dear Mr Bloom, I have been watching your channel for sometime and like what I see, and I have learned a lot, thank you for that. A question if you don't mind, Why is your films most of the time has less black or mixed black or how I see it dreamy black colors? I'm a student of Film, Video and Audio. Thank you, Ajmal Songaryar
Philip Bloom how flat was the image out of the camera? That is what has stopped me looking at Sony cameras and sticking to my Canons - the image in the past just hasn't been flat enough
what tripod you use for the black magic which canon lens and camera use? This effect is with what program ? Sorry for the questions , but I am a lover of beautiful images .
In general I'm a unconditional admirer of 80% of your work...have to pass on this footage except to say this soundtrack completely safed it (which is trough for many award winning movies too) good choice!
I just don't get it. The film seemed boring and mundane to me, and I just could not get any sense of story out of it. All it seemed was a showcase for soft focus video. Sorry nearly 5 minutes of that removes artistic interpretation for me. I may be a philistine but I just don't get it.
What is their to get? Also why do you look for a story when clearly there is none...this is about creating an emotion, a feeling. If your one is boredom so then so be it! P
The video looked great and you're a great cinematographer but your videos have no story line, not really much meaning just a bunch of footage put together. It seems as if you have thought about how the shot looks before pressing record but not actually thought about the content of the shot or whats going on!
Liam, Sorry but that's kind of insulting. EVERY shot is thought of BEFORE, composed and judged. You think I judge randomly spray the camera? PLUS please check out my other work on this channel. It;s not hard you know! It's easier to make a sweeping statement than actually checking my other stuff i guess? Maybe start with the recent An Amish Man 4K: An Amish Man then this: La Tamise then this: "Portrait of a boxer" B&W version want me to go on? Now I am fine with critique. But critique which is actually not actually subjective but actually incorrect, re story that is. If you feel this film does nothing for you that is fine, that is subjective and it's your opinion so thats fine. Now, Is there a story to this one though? No sir. It's about a feeling, about creating an emotion. That is filmmaking Liam. Emotion. Kind regards P
Sorry Philip, I did not mean for my comment to be insulting at all and I truly admire your skills that go into these films. I just get confused between films, which I consider to have a strong story line (beginning, middle, end) and technically beautiful and great shots but just put together in post. Thanks for the reply anyway and I'm sorry if I offended you in anyway, keep doing what you're doing! Liam
Amazing! I can't believe this was shot with a Barbie doll!!!
What a beautiful young lady. Awesome video
at first I was like "sony tilt shift? or TS-E with metabones?" then I read the description and "okay, that was best lens whacking control I've ever seen!". Hats off, sir.
actually my first real try Ponti so thank you!
Yep. You're the man Mr. Bloom. Absolutely nailed it.
Beautiful. Such an imdediate and impactful relationship between the camera and subject. Truly emotional. Thanks Philip
This gave me chills throughout the entire 4 minutes 27 seconds. Stunningly good lens whacking. My jaw dropped.
What a smile. Beautiful film Philip! Thank you.
Another beautiful film Philip!
Amazing! Thank you.
Beautiful video with stunning cinematography.
I love the image. The colors are really retro and done in a really nice way. The lens wacking is great also.
She is incredibly beautiful. Also, love the grading in this.
wow she is absolutely beautiful! And I love the focus plane effect you were using.
I know this is an old video but I've only just stumbled across it. I think I'm in love. The music, the subject, the emotion. My favourite shot is 3:17 WOW! I love the light/shadow on her face. I get such a mix of happiness and sadness from this. It's almost like a faded memory.
a beautiful girl, full frame sensor and Christmas spirit --> winning!
Phillip Bloom, behave yourself! :) Magnificent
You made wear my glasses. Lol. I thought I had blurred vision. Sony is getting it. Finnaly!
This is simply amazing. I'd say on of the best short films on youtube, if not the best. Well done Philip!
OMG, she has the most beautiful eyes I'v ever seen in my life !
Amazing! Love it! The theme, color grading, music, the girl, everything's just perfect!
Like always ... Beautiful... Mr. Philip. Thank's for sharing. (Thailand Fans)
I think we all just fell in love with this girl :) great movie!
That was some really good cinematography, nice job and it was really professionally done.
thanks for taking the time to do reviews. much appreciated.
Gosh, Mr. Bloom, you really need that 60FPS :D Magnificent lens whacking. Bravo.
Beautiful work Philip! Thanks for detailed description, it helps when starting out :]
This is great Philip. I tried lens whacking with my d7000 and my 1.8 50mm and no matter how much I tried, it just didn't come close to this video. Hats off to you sir!
wow this video look is amazing . whackin method look crazy . i did that once with a 50mm too . to give that amazing lightburn .well done!
Wow, she is a stunner! And a fantastic video of course... Looking forward to the review of this interesting camera! It appeared to have decent low light performance. But then you make cameras look great! :)
She's so beautiful she could make an iphone shots look pretty!
Lovely video, Mr. Bloom
An outstanding creation from a brilliant mind through great eyes....u r amazing Philip Bloom . Wish I could b your assistant.
This seems more like a music video rather than a film
i feel depressed and inspired all at the same time viewing this video... its so damn good...salute
Its easy to get such good footage if you have such a beautiful (girl)friend.
J.k. .. nice work
Beautyfull cinematography
Beautyfull girl
Beautyfull voices in the music parts
So, this is gut. GUT!
Really nice shots and love the colour grading!
I really like the look of this, different from the norm,
enjoyed the feel of the story, Any tips for lens whacking ?
thank you Mr. Bloom.
Love the lens whacking effect!!
Very nice short film. Good job
so cute and beautiful this woman
Amazing job, Philip !
Nice work Mr. Bloom.
loved the look you gave it.
Beautiful( ^o^) Do you use a filter on the lens or just playing with focal length ? Just love way you play with the natural light.
Another Great Film Philip! Should We Expect a Sony A7R Review?
I am a relative newbie when it comes to shooting, so please forgive my ignorance, but I just have to ask how you manage to capture moments that appear to be such REAL LIFE MOMENTS, without any camera shake at all (I know that it's an art form in and of itself, but your clips are incredible) I've done post production stabilization, but there's always a few frames that jump so severely that you just can't make them come out as smoothly as this clip is... and I can't see you walking around all over the place with a flycam
Philip Bloom such a great video!
magnificent work done ! What was the music title?. It really suited with the video and the beautiful lady. thumbs up
Why is the image out of this camera always so hazy?
I think you have a crush Phillip. ;-)
Lets hope he got to whack another thing than lenses lol.
wonderful work
brilliant I love your style.
My opinion is, that there is way to much out of focus stuff. I prefer to have the shots clean in focus and not to play that much with depth of field.
There is one thing that interests me alot. Did you use a script for this film? Or is it a random composition of handheld shots?
Can't wait to see the review of the camera.
Why do I get a feeling Philip is very interested in this woman :-). Good job.
I'd kill to have a week to just watch and learn with you Pill.
Hey Philip. The film looks great. I really love the colour. I have a project coming up where I'd like to use a similar grade. I use FilmConvert as well. This looks a lot like Fuji Velvia 100. What I really want to know though is how you put that great haze and flare.

that's not the grade am afraid! that's the way i shot it with the lens detached. Lens whacking. Check the video info for more on this.
P
1:36 - that's how we drink it in Belgium. It's called the Belgian dip.
Beautiful grade
Dear Mr Bloom, I have been watching your channel for sometime and like what I see, and I have learned a lot, thank you for that. Philip Bloom how flat was the image out of the camera? That is what has stopped me looking at Sony cameras and sticking to my Canons - the image in the past just hasn't been flat enough
After watching all videos on this channel I reached a conclusion. Any camera would do the job if you know what you're doing.
yes, but it's hell of alot easier to hand-hold and whack a tiny (light) camera like the Sony a7 ;)
and YES, he knows what he's doing..
This is great work. What was your gear for the vid? Thank you for sharing!
Did you use a tripod or stabilizer of any sort? Or just raw awesome handheld???
Great video, coud you make a tutorial on how to grade and edit to match this video?
Awesome!
Still waiting on the results of the DigitalRev challenge. But I can fully understand if you threw it in the recycle bin.
amazing work, do you usually start with music first or with video, grading then add the music? did you use neatVideo?
Can you make tutorial for color grading !
I use final cut pro
Thanks
Nice shots bro.
Awesome video!
Her beauty hurts my eyes.. and my heart. AVCHD codec and 24-28Mb/s bitrate is a joke for this camera. Great job BTW.
Are you going to do a review on the camera?
Every mans dream of being there in the moment.
Yes, beautiful girl, excellent camera work but about two and a half minutes too long.
Hi Mr Bloom sir, are you using lens whacking techniques? Oh don't bother. It's in the description :)
you used a tilt shift lens right? (just guess)
what tripod you use for the black magic which canon lens and camera use?
This effect is with what program ?
Sorry for the questions , but I am a lover of beautiful images .
He used a Sony A7r in this video and the color settings and workflow he detailed in this video's description.
Shes beautiful ...
1:43 favourite shot. Hope she loved it ^_^
Will you be coming to photokina 2013?
Whoa she's hot.
I still hate the hard sunlight that shows on all video and is still evident here. Will video ever match film in this regard?
WOW!
Going old school with a silent film.
how you shoot for stabilization? shoulder rig, steadicam?
In general I'm a unconditional admirer of 80% of your work...have to pass on this footage except to say this soundtrack completely safed it (which is trough for many award winning movies too) good choice!
nice!
how did you get those flares
Same question, i assume from the whacking or tilt shift, probably didnt have the lens mounted on the body completely.
Beautiful… oh an the shots don't look too bad either.
I cried(((
Curse you phillip bloom, you did it again =D!!!
what the heck @3:44 the focus is behind her yet on the right it's shallow? is this done in post or through lens removal?
tilt shift or lens whacking as he calls it is how this was done.
thanks man, i found out after a bit of research. it's also called freelensing
cantonboi2 freelensing and lenswhacking, i learned a lot today, TY mate
Can you lense whack a lummox gh3 as its a micro four thirds censor?
Yes.
Still Nr. One in Video DSLR !
nice
epictasticness
Cute video, cute girl :)
You are really damn good
I just don't get it. The film seemed boring and mundane to me, and I just could not get any sense of story out of it. All it seemed was a showcase for soft focus video. Sorry nearly 5 minutes of that removes artistic interpretation for me. I may be a philistine but I just don't get it.

P
It's simply about beauty, happiness..whatever.
Thanks Philip. I was worried my Alzheimers made me miss something. Merry Christmas
Maybe this short clip should be called this 6 degrees (i.e. 6 degrees of separation)
Bunch of color graded shallow DOF shots of pretty girl against soft music. Could have at least attempted a story.
I am sorry you didn't connect with it. Perhaps next time you will. P
The video looked great and you're a great cinematographer but your videos have no story line, not really much meaning just a bunch of footage put together. It seems as if you have thought about how the shot looks before pressing record but not actually thought about the content of the shot or whats going on!

want me to go on?
Now I am fine with critique. But critique which is actually not actually subjective but actually incorrect, re story that is. Sorry Philip,
I did not mean for my comment to be insulting at all and I truly admire your skills that go into these films. I just get confused between films, which I consider to have a strong story line (beginning, middle, end) and technically beautiful and great shots but just put together in post. Liam Montford Also thanks for referring me to the other videos, the 4K Amish Man is great btw!
Liam Montford great thanks Liam
