Basic bill of materials: -10 Sticky Pistons -Around a stack of redstone dust (just take 2 stacks if not sure) -24 repeaters (I ended up using 25 to extend a signal. Id reccomend bringing an extra one too) -20 signs (id say bring more to block off more areas that spiders shouldnt climb.) -Stone Button -Lever -6 Redstone torches -~30 glass blocks and ~25 glass panes (I just made a stack of glass and brought it with me Ill get more accurate measurements later, hopefully this helps anyone building
Just an idea that would've helped me out: It'd be cool if you could get a list of materials needed for this and put it in the description :) It'd just make it easier than having to go back and forth to get everything if we're playing on survival. It's also easy to overlook something and have to make another trip for a single item. Great video! :)
This design is broken in 1.9, 1.10 and 1.11. You can fix it super easily though. On both sides where the crushing pistons are, set *one* repeater to two ticks. You'll want to set one of the repeaters closest to you to two ticks and on the opposite side set the repeater farthest from you to two ticks.
The ones that are powering the 2x2 of crushing pistons. One on each side, but on offset positions. So switch one on the left to two ticks, and on the other side, switch the one on the right to two ticks
Currently using this and it works like a charm. Seriously, this is amazing, I got myself tons of spidereyes and tons of enchants. You got yourself a subscriber, pal. Keep those awesome guides rocking :)
Excellent tutorial. Took about an hour to do on PS3, I had to modify the design a little bit but it runs perfectly. I was looking for ages for a good working spider farmer and you came through for me. Nice work!
This spawner works great. Used it on my lets play series. You have to give the spiders time to line up and then they all fall in line. Thanks Dowsey. Great tutorial.
Same, I built this in survival and it took me hours to make. And the piston thing doesn’t work. But it’s fine because I still got a awesome xp spider farm.
This farm design is pretty beautiful. I would recommend placing four hoppers on the area where the spiders get crushed/killed facing into a chest if you want to collect the items they drop. Other than that, this is pretty perfect! I used the glass panes on the wall idea from this video as well in a spider farm I designed.
WarnedyouForever try doing it where you're surrounded by lava pools. I was getting so frustrated with dealing with the obsidian and lava everywhere that I went through an entire pack of smokes.
SKattered There was lava all in that ravine.. not pools, but they can't be *that* difficult do deal with whatsoever? Gravel/sand should do the trick c:
i figured, "why waste a perfectly good lava source block by negating it? I need water anyway. why not just turn it into obsidian?" wasn't really worth the aggravation. but...fuck it. I got a nice bit of obsidian out of it lol
Because it allows the water to go further. Spiders are 2x2x1 blocks big, which means that even if they land in the 2x1 area of water is standing, they'll be in a 2x1 area of water that is flowing, and will still flow :)
ButterMango Mine still works... they can pile up... Although sometimes they get stuck for a bit until the second spider goes inside of the the first... Then they can all pile up.
Great video - I had been struggling for hrs with a water elevator / mob drop model but couldn't get it to work. This model worked perfectly first time. xDowsey goes through the steps very quickly - be prepared to pause / rewind lots!
if your playing on PC you can press F11 to play in windowed mode and switch between the video and the game while following the instructions on the vid, thats what i done and it wasnt so bad. make sure you maximise the game window for better gameplay tho
man thank you for this, i spent at least a good 30 mins to an hour pausing, doing what you said, unpause, pause, do it again, lol, and then power went out when i was laying the repeaters. One thing, i had to stop and run up to make the repeaters and such, i may have missed it but a quick 'you'll need this many repeaters' at the start would have been pretty cool. Now that i've said that one small complaint, THANK YOU!!!! This works great, and i'm finally getting the string that i need. ty much.

I did it on 1.8.8 and the sticky pistons kill the spiders, instead of leaving then on a one-hit kill. Please please please help me. I did all this work, and now it doesn't even work.
+Ghryst VanGhod at least he is correctly using a 10x10 room, but he doesnt show how to align it properly, and he needs more of a drop to keep the mobs flowing quickly
Did not work well in 1.10. The spiders were getting stuck in the crusher blocks and dying. What we did that does work is only use the last four crusher blocks, eliminating the first four. Since spiders are 2x2 crushing only the front two parts of the body worked without killing them in the crusher. Good stuff, thanks for the video!
The crusher consists of four pistons on each side. The first four, towards the spawner I removed. So only four pistons, two on each side, stacked one above the other crush the spiders.
Essentially you only need 3 sticky pistons for this to work, the two to stop the water/more spiders to get trough to the killing chamber and then you only need 1 sticky piston for killing them. The sticky piston just has be in the front row (the furthest away from the spawner) as spiders are 2x2 one blok is enough to damage them, 8 sticky pistons is just huge overkill and it doesn't even work anymore. Hope it helps :)
Actually if you change the water flow circuit so that you have normal pistons under gravity blocks (sand or grave), you only need one (for the killing chamber).
after 3 long hours.. it works and its the most brilliant idea.. thumbs up xDowsey! thanks for posting the video and hopefully you think of many many more great traps!
hey Dowsey, thanks to another youtuber who actually loved your design and used it for his spawner, I found you, and you got yourself sir another subscribe :)
Excellent tutorial. You can also place 2 glass blocks between you and the spiders instead of sandstone/whatever where your collection areas are and that somehow stops the spiders hurting you :)
great design. I cant wait to try this. I tried last night to make a spider farm with a spawner I found but its no where near this nice. I wont steal your idea completely, but it is a huge help seeing this.
Very good tutorial and very professional, will defenitly be using this in my minecraft series! Hopefully I can get you a few more views this was just great!
Confirmed still working on XB360 TU27. Spiders bunch at entrance but if you move the glass steps back one block toward the spawner, the bunching seems to be eliminated. Great tutorial. Thank you. FYI, you have to stand on the last block after the glass pane square or closer (toward the spawner). If you stand any farther away you will be out of the spawner activation range. I moved the switch to the right (facing spawner) so button and switch are on same wall next to each other. This allowed me to put a torch on the back of the switch to invert it (so down is off) and also raise it so the wire goes over the path instead of under. This then let me put down hoppers in the last 4 squares in the channel (under glass panes) and lead them down the hall to a chest to auto-collect dropped loot.
For everyone in 1.9+ I've found out that if you deactivate one side, and only use two pistons on the other side, one in the top and one in the bottom, and then place two blocks on top of the side you use the spider shouldn't jump out or get stuck in the wall :)
Omg this is the video ive been looking for thank the lord. This is a big step for me on prison and I have all the tools for it thank you dowsey I subscribed and liked if that means anything.Thank you!
THANK YOU! I like to mostly play on peaceful to explore & build things, so getting XP is a slow process for me. Well, it WAS, because now I have one of these! It's so cool! Thanks again!
really great tutorial, got it right first time thanks to the step by step explanation! I noticed that spiders were still jumping too high/getting stuck on the glass panes inside the spawner room. I extended those glass panes out one more into the mob spawner room and they no longer get stuck! Hope this helps anyone
thanks for the tutorial. had to re work a few things to get my ps4 to cooperate, but it works great. i couldn't put signs on signs so i had to make my spawning room bigger to get the water to work right, and i had to tone down the length of time that the pistons were activated for, but after a bit of tweaking everything is working wonderfully. thanks again.
Nice. I would imagine that putting hoppers underneath the spider kill area would be an excellent addition to this so they catch the drops and you won't have to hop down to get them, potentially getting hit through the block. I have a couple of spider dungeons on my world. I'll give this setup a try. I'm also thinking about adding a diverter channel that funnels the spiders into cactus when you're not actively killing them.
Thanks so much! I liked and subscribed! It took me a while to do it because I had to gather resources because I made this for my faction base, but it pays off! In 1 use of the crusher, it got me 5 Xp levels! Awesome tutorial!
The issues that I had with this design were that the spiders liked to clog under the floor and they liked to just clog that pathway. The way I solved that problem was that I installed a piston to push down a block where they liked to clog up. Also, the spiders also tend to glitch out and escape in the crush zone. There were more that one occasion when I would be crushing the spiders only to have several spiders suddenly loose and running amok. I had to install safeguard blocks around the killing zone to prevent the escapees from getting too far. Other than those two issues, this design worked pretty decently.
Well, it's 11:47 as I'm writing this comment, and I've finally finished the mob trap on Hardcore Mode... my elbows feel so painful and cold from resting on my leather chair for so long. Thank you for the awesome design. Hope it helps boost my levels before I fight the dragon.
Omg thanks dowsey!!! This is so useful I'm still camping in the area with lots of food it took a while to set up but now I'm sorted and I don't wanna leave xD
from 1.5 onward you can use hoppers to transport the loot instead of manually collecting them. Collection pits can be removed and no more being hit by the spiders
To those who are having issues with them stacking, I had to stand right on the edge (next to the railings) - that seems to work; if I move further away, they don't always stack.
As a personal opinion, might help you a bit on your next videos.. Tell us the materials we need first, or in the description box put them. It's very had to guess how many resources I needed and in the case of this spawner I didnt had lots of redstone :) But thanks for the trap, it's awesome! I love it!
Concerning spiders getting caught in the wall and dying: 1)As of 1.9.0 this does not work due to spiders getting caught in the pistons. 2)The way to fix this is to have 4 pistons under the floor push the floor up by 1 block, then have one piston on top push down. -This ensures that the spiders do not get caught on the wall or stuck. -Otherwise this build works just fine
also, this is the 3rd one i tried, step by step, and yours is the only one that works like it's supposed to. maybe it's because i'm still using 1.4.7 (hate updating mods and such, and i like having infinite lave to go with IC). either way though, thank you again, and i can finally start making my back packs so i can do some serious mining :)
This is awesome. I'm still getting hit though through the glass, which is strange. But I love it and added hoppers at the base, so they can collect loot. Thank you.
I'm playing in 1.12 PC. I have found, by accident, that by removing the top two sticky pistons on one side is enough to keep the spiders suffocating to a 1-hit kill, but also prevent them from glitching through the walls. You still need the bottom pistons working, but remove the top two pistons from one side. Please like this comment so other players can see.
Took Me 2 hours to build! Up till 1;30 am Works on PC Signed in Just to like this video AMAZING tutorial Dude, If i had a cookie id give it to you. Just what i was looking for. thanks!
yea my brother repaired it..apparently that was the problem..btw this works wonders with 2 spawners in the room..I idled for 30 minutes just now, went from level 25 to 30, enchanted my bow, back to 30, enchanted my chest piece and then to 20..really nice design..also you have to stand right in front of the spiders, they glitch through the walls and hit you otherwise
Nate Cloyd You need to make sure to do the first redstone part in the correct order. If you break the redstone square and re-do it it should turn them off. make sure you follow exactly starting at 10:23.
I did this in snapshot 15w43c, I forgot that hitboxes were changed, so the crushers won't work, unfortunately. What you can do though, is make a potion of harming level I 3 times to kill all the spiders, or use 1 tnt. I tested this on my own testing world, and I can assure you what I said works. I hope this helps!
If anyone wants it here is a list (I might have missed some things): 6 redstone torches 24 redstone repeater 20 signs 10 sticky pistons 1 button and lever glass or iron bars
This also works for cave spiders. You need 4 pistons less (because of their smaller size). You need 13 repeaters on 4 ticks and 1 on 3 ticks The 2 block wide canal is still a good idea though.
Basic bill of materials:
-10 Sticky Pistons
-Around a stack of redstone dust (just take 2 stacks if not sure)
-24 repeaters (I ended up using 25 to extend a signal. Id reccomend bringing an extra one too)
-20 signs (id say bring more to block off more areas that spiders shouldnt climb.)
-Stone Button
-Lever
-6 Redstone torches
-~30 glass blocks and ~25 glass panes (I just made a stack of glass and brought it with me
Ill get more accurate measurements later, hopefully this helps anyone building
Buckybomb And 2 buckets of water
Thx alot
Thx bruh
Just an idea that would've helped me out: It'd be cool if you could get a list of materials needed for this and put it in the description :) It'd just make it easier than having to go back and forth to get everything if we're playing on survival. Great video! :)
yeah aye.
Timothy Jones, Jr. I
Timothy Jones, Jr. why wont my signs stack up?
Hugo I think that the newer updates might've patched some of it. I haven't played in a while though, so I don't know for sure.
Hugo Perez crouch and place them

You'll want to set one of the repeaters closest to you to two ticks and on the opposite side set the repeater farthest from you to two ticks.
Thanks man!
OK wait, explain which repeaters to switch to two ticks, I'm confused
The ones that are powering the 2x2 of crushing pistons. One on each side, but on offset positions. So switch one on the left to two ticks, and on the other side, switch the one on the right to two ticks
Luke M ok thanks
Bobby Octovio Basically, you want the pistons to close in a checker pattern.
Works great but they do get stuck eventually in the glass. When one spider gets stuck there all the other spiders clog up behind it too.
IT WORKS ON 1.8!!!
Just press Shift while placing the signs onto one another.
Thank me later :)
thank you later
Currently using this and it works like a charm. Seriously, this is amazing, I got myself tons of spidereyes and tons of enchants.
You got yourself a subscriber, pal. Keep those awesome guides rocking :)
This is a great farm, but the sense of direction in this video is very poor. I got lost quite a few times. Otherwise, it was great!
Excellent tutorial. Took about an hour to do on PS3, I had to modify the design a little bit but it runs perfectly. I was looking for ages for a good working spider farmer and you came through for me. Nice work!
Everything is the same for Cave spiders except you only need 14 repeaters on the crusher instead of 18.
This spawner works great. Used it on my lets play series. You have to give the spiders time to line up and then they all fall in line. Thanks Dowsey. Great tutorial.
Thanks dude! It did take me 3 hours (I did it in survival) But it is totally worth it. Nice job making such a great machine!
I did it in survival and it took me 40 min, I don't know how it took you that long
Same, I built this in survival and it took me hours to make. And the piston thing doesn’t work. But it’s fine because I still got a awesome xp spider farm.
Yeah, finding slime for the sticky pistons sucked
After building another, more difficult one, that hardly worked anyway, I am extremely grateful to have found this. Thank you.
Very great!! I am using this right now!
This is so annoying to do inside a ravine *xD* Unlucky spawner i'll tell ya

Mine was under a sea. Guess what sand does when u mine out a killing room. Guess what sand does to redstone when u built the ways for it lol
Because it allows the water to go further. Spiders are 2x2x1 blocks big, which means that even if they land in the 2x1 area of water is standing, they'll be in a 2x1 area of water that is flowing, and will still flow :)
I really regret not checking to see if this still worked DX
yeah.. same here.. i cant place the signs infront of eachother lol
You have to crouch to place them :P I was referring to the fact that spiders can no longer pile up on top of each other like that
Do I have to, Cause I Don't Wanna oh i see! thanks for letting me know! but dang, i guess it still doesnt matter since they wont pile up :c
ButterMango
Mine still works... they can pile up... Although sometimes they get stuck for a bit until the second spider goes inside of the the first... Then they can all pile up.
Max Paris the only way that mobs can pile up now is if they *fall down* to get there. sadly, they can't simple float straight to their destination
This is incredible as i've been lookin for a good clear video of a spider xp farm.
dosnt work on xbox they dont stack up
nvm i hit them and it started working :)
Great video - I had been struggling for hrs with a water elevator / mob drop model but couldn't get it to work. This model worked perfectly first time. xDowsey goes through the steps very quickly - be prepared to pause / rewind lots!
you go way too fast
Pause button...
i had to puase over 100 times i ended up ragequting and blowing it up
if your playing on PC you can press F11 to play in windowed mode and switch between the video and the game while following the instructions on the vid,
thats what i done and it wasnt so bad.
make sure you maximise the game window for better gameplay tho
i did that and also i blew up the spawner so too bad
gutted for ya,
hope you find another one
Just spent a couple hrs doing this and works great. Thanks a lot bro.
Can you put more than one spawner in there
Yes
man thank you for this, i spent at least a good 30 mins to an hour pausing, doing what you said, unpause, pause, do it again, lol, and then power went out when i was laying the repeaters. One thing, i had to stop and run up to make the repeaters and such, i may have missed it but a quick 'you'll need this many repeaters' at the start would have been pretty cool.
Now that i've said that one small complaint, THANK YOU!!!! This works great, and i'm finally getting the string that i need. ty much.
Does this work on Playstation?
Why not?
I'm the best... XD

Yes, just made it in my hardcore survival.
Dragnoz Omg it's Dragnoz! :O I love your vids
Finally a super easy, efficient and working spider grinder/xp farm!
I did it on 1.8.8 and the sticky pistons kill the spiders, instead of leaving then on a one-hit kill. Please please please help me. I did all this work, and now it doesn't even work.
I have the same problem, tried shortening the delay but jeg get dragged into the wall by the pistons
+Flemming Nielsen +Fiery Potion Try using one less repeater in that long chain. So 17 instead of 18. If they still die, pull a second one, etc.
+Ghryst VanGhod at least he is correctly using a 10x10 room, but he doesnt show how to align it properly, and he needs more of a drop to keep the mobs flowing quickly
+USPInx I like tripled checked everything. I did everything just like the video
USPInx woah man I don't know. I did this months ago on a multiplayer server so it's pretty much gone now. I can't really fix it now. :/
This was actually really helpful! Keep making videos dude!
Your wording is not understandable, can you post a screenshot on imgur and PM me it so I can see what you did that's different?
The crusher consists of four pistons on each side. The first four, towards the spawner I removed. So only four pistons, two on each side, stacked one above the other crush the spiders.
oh okay, thank you

Very cool video! Extra points for fast pace and high level of detail :)
when i do this the spiders get suck in the walls and die
XD me too
Make the pistons on a checkered delay so they don't get sucked in.
Isaac Anthony how do u do that
after 3 long hours.. it works and its the most brilliant idea.. thumbs up xDowsey! thanks for posting the video and hopefully you think of many many more great traps!
im playing on 1.8.8 and it wont even let me place a sign on a sign dafuq is this Q_Q
U have to click shift or crouch.
+Aryan S THANK YOU
Awesome video man! Fantastic audio and video quality and in depth tutorial!
i did the same but i hitted bedrock O.o
Totti "hitted"
Nicely done. This is the best (by far) of the spider farm videos I watched. You have my sub.
DO NOT USE IN 1.9 PC
+jac0b ward I got it to work in 1.9 but you have to modify where you stop the water
+Jess Rolen k I will see if I can do something simular
it doesn't work in 1.9?
+Jess Rolen how'd u fix it?
hey Dowsey, thanks to another youtuber who actually loved your design and used it for his spawner, I found you, and you got yourself sir another subscribe :)
One of the best tutorials i've ever seen.

+Rachel Miller Is there anyway to help the channel clogging?
Very good tutorial and very professional, will defenitly be using this in my minecraft series! Hopefully I can get you a few more views this was just great!

that f*cking spiders still jumping on the wall
Rip
Omg this is the video ive been looking for thank the lord. This is a big step for me on prison and I have all the tools for it thank you dowsey I subscribed and liked if that means anything.Thank you!
Nice tutorial! I have never seen a design so simple before! I just built it and it is super efficient!

Works great. Thank you so much! :D Couldn't find one for normal spiders anywhere. Very efficient. Thank you again!
Thanks for making this tutorial, spider farming tutorials are kind of hard to find.
really great tutorial, got it right first time thanks to the step by step explanation!
I noticed that spiders were still jumping too high/getting stuck on the glass panes inside the spawner room. I extended those glass panes out one more into the mob spawner room and they no longer get stuck! Hope this helps anyone
Thx:D I HAD THE same prob
Mine still get stuck I extended it again so its 2 thick

In that case, make sure you put more then one in. I have 4 in my one on World 8-4, and it fills up nicely :)
Thank you! This has helped a lot on my console world with friends! Would recommend this tutorial, it still works in 2016! Thanks :)
this kid must be in the gifted program... he is so good at memorizing.
This deserves alot more likes and views earned a sub keep up the good work!

the memories. I loved your old hero brine series XD
Omg thanks dowsey!!! This is so useful I'm still camping in the area with lots of food it took a while to set up but now I'm sorted and I don't wanna leave xD
Great tutorial, works like a charm.. The only thing I changed was putting hoppers and a chest where you kill the spiders
I built this spawner on my hardcore save and it works really well! Great guide!
from 1.5 onward you can use hoppers to transport the loot instead of manually collecting them. Collection pits can be removed and no more being hit by the spiders
Amazing video Worked for sure man keep up the great content man.
This is great! While building this I was digging down so I couple place the red stone torches and found 4 diamonds!
I love it!
I tried making a spider XP farm with a zombie / skeleton layout... It didn't work well. This video was very helpful!
Great video, great explanation, great intro, it all works, and I have like 30 level 30 enchanted diamond pickaxes! Thanks man
You can cut 6 sticky pistons out of that, keep only 2 on top of each other to crush the spiders. This also saves alot of redstone and repeaters.
Concerning spiders getting caught in the wall and dying:
1)As of 1.9.0 this does not work due to spiders getting caught in the pistons.
2)The way to fix this is to have 4 pistons under the floor push the floor up by 1 block, then have one piston on top push down.
-This ensures that the spiders do not get caught on the wall or stuck.
-Otherwise this build works just fine
subbed to you originally for these! I love them.
Thanks a lot man it helped me soo much. I tested it out and found where you put the redstone and it works now so thank you. =D
Thanks I've been trying to find zombie and all i found was spider and idk how to make a xp farm with spider and this helped me a lot so thanks
Mobs don't have different health on different difficulty modes, so it'll work on Easy, Normal, Hard or Hardcore.
also, this is the 3rd one i tried, step by step, and yours is the only one that works like it's supposed to. maybe it's because i'm still using 1.4.7 (hate updating mods and such, and i like having infinite lave to go with IC).
either way though, thank you again, and i can finally start making my back packs so i can do some serious mining :)
Up till 1;30 am
Works on PC

AMAZING tutorial Dude, If i had a cookie id give it to you.
Can confirm that this works and works great on XBOX One. Great video, thanks!
The repeaters just stay lit?yyyyyyy plzzz help
Nate Cloyd You need to make sure to do the first redstone part in the correct order. If you break the redstone square and re-do it it should turn them off. make sure you follow exactly starting at 10:23.
Great tutorial, thanks for taking the time to make it! Earned yourself another sub here :)
Awesome! Super easy and was able to quickly put together! Thank you! Subscribed! :D
Awesome tutorial!
I'm having a blast crushing the spiders :D
thanks man i couldnt understand how spiders work so i couldnt build it until i watched this!
Really like the way how your channel is growing
Great tutorial! I am using this without the pistons to grind my Fishing and Repair McMMO levels on a server! :)
I think you are an amazing youtuber. Keep up the good work
If anyone wants it here is a list (I might have missed some things):
6 redstone torches
24 redstone repeater
20 signs
10 sticky pistons
1 button and lever
glass or iron bars
This worked perfectly. Many thanks. I added hoppers where the spiders die for extra fun. :)
No, spiders have a different amount of health. In the description is links to a Zombie and Skele XP farm, and a Cave Spider one :)
This also works for cave spiders. You need 4 pistons less (because of their smaller size). You need 13 repeaters on 4 ticks and 1 on 3 ticks The 2 block wide canal is still a good idea though.
i did it on Xbox a while ago and just had to change the design a little and it works perfect thanks! :))
Hey younger self
Miss these old tutorial videos liked :
Cheers dude keep the amazing work up! :D
