Genuinely the best IFV currently fielded in significant numbers. Much of the issues people like to point towards, come from the fact that the german ministry of defense refused and still refuses to a degree to use the necessary funding to keep such a complex and expensive system maintained and supplied with everything it needs.
Not the system is flawed, but the infrastructure around it.
...yes, and the fact, that by German law it is titeled as "not combat ready" if e.g. one single blinker bulb is broken

@@Subhuman1342 Combat doesn't really test how good the vehicle is, it's down to the crew and doctrine at that point. Ukraine lost a load of Bradleys and the Saudis continue to lose Abrams tanks and it doesn't say much about their inherent quality.
The Puma is one of the best in the sense that it's advances allow a crew or commander to more effectively operate with the system, even if they could operate just as competently in a Marder.
@@Subhuman1342 The same stupid argument people were bringing up with the Leopard until it arrived in Ukraine and caused LOTS of trouble for the russians. It got proven to be the best tank in Ukraine (and it is not even the newest version). In the last report, only 5 Leopards were destroyed (probably now it is more), and they are fighting in the most intense area. Crews always survive.
Also combat doesn't mean war and not every wars are the same. For example, Challengers and Abrams were proven in Irak. But they fought against almost stone age weapons. They didn't face modern defense weapons like russia have. Consequently before the war in Ukraine, literally every weapon system has not seen a real war.

Don't get me wrong, PUMA is great, but so far it has some horrible reliability issues, since all of them broke down on the last NATO training excercises. So far it's mostly Marder that will do most of the heavy lifting if Germany deploys somewhere. Can't wait for those to be addressed though, the vehicle is really good on paper

@@Mr.Chlorophil Yes, that is partly true. But there is a reason why they are getting thoroughly tested in these exercises. It is so that they can see which pieces will break first so they know which parts to carry and which parts need to be redesigned.

...das tut er ja auch. die Bw hat ja über 300 Stück im Einsatz und die bugs vom Jahresanfang sind gefixt und waren überwiegend Probleme, die in der realen Welt niemenden interessiert hätten. Wenn am Puma ein Blinkerbirnchen kaputt ist, dann gilt er nicht mehr als combat ready. Ist wie mit den Dingo in Afghanistan, die nicht mehr genutzt werden durften, weil die deutsche ASU abgelaufen war...!

CV90 is ok, but in comparison to a Puma its more like a BMP-2 in comparison to an M2 Bradley

@@acyd1337 CV90 is a late 80s IFV design with some modern upgrades.
It is quite a good system.
But Puma is a next generation system, wich has more capabilities.
As far as late cold war designs go, CV90 is likely the best of those.
Its like comparing an EF-2000 (wich is the CV90), a gen 4.5 fighter, to a full 5th gen fighter like F-22 F-35.
CV90 is cheaper and lighter and with current upgrades quite capable, but in the long run it wont be able to keep up with current generation systems and threats.
@@zhufortheimpaler4041 cv90 mk4 was introduced in 2017, and isn't just "modern upgrades". puma is good on papers and ill admit that trials have been looking better than it use to, but we all remember when all 18 pumas suffered malfunctions and electrical fires. not just the pricing like you said but cv90 has far superior manouverability, handles terrain better, serves its purpose of protect and defend better. cv90 has state of the art night vision, also superior with its barracuda camo that hides its heat signatures etc and much more.
@@acyd1337 the base system was developed in the 80's and introduced in the 90's. There is a limit to how much you can bolt on, until it is too much.
And Puma also has quite efficient thermal signature concealment, drasticly heavier armor protection, superior precision and also the more advanced sensor suite plus soft kill aps.
It's just the next generation.
That doesn't mean that cv90 is bad, but that it compares to puma, like an ef2000 to an f35

...of course it did...!!! It is the most complex fighting vehicle ever build so far (and the most expansive IFV, costs over 15 million Euro each) - bugs are fixed now....

CV90 all the way, like with their cars the germans make their military equipment to expensive and flashy.
This thing better dives like a sub and flies like an aircraft for a price of $17 million (or $34 million for improved variant)
@@SuperGeronimo999 About $13 million is the accurate figure for a single vehicle. Dividing the cost of an order from the industry by the amount of units orderd doesen't work, these figures include training of maintenance personnel, spare parts and other services.
The same math would give the Norwegian Leopard 2 order a unit cost of $35 million whereas the confirmed unit cost of a Leopard 2A7V is around $17 million.
Yet nations that use CV90s mostly use Leopard 2 MBTs, so take that as you will.

they broke down, because the unit was on a 3 months uninterrupted training spree and had little proper maintenance in between.

Nearly ALL of the break down was issued to wrong careless use by their crews... destroying monitor with a rifle stock ..is one of the many examples of what happen... it isjust more catchy by the news to come up with such crap headlines than asking what really happen.

Germany operates more than 300 of these very succesfull, the soldiers love it. The (mostly minor) bugs are fixed....

@@codenamecrusade1083 ....what you mention was one single unit with 16 Pumas (out of 350) in December last year - and all these Pumas are back in active service long ago!. The "problems" talken about where mostly minor issues, not worth mentioning in any other army of the world. Only one real defect (a cable catching a smoldering fire). In the German army (as in Germany in general) there is a "culture" of overprotecting everyone and everything. If a single blinker bulb is broken at a tank, its status is "non servicable" and taken out of service till the "defect" is repaired. This is even practised in action. During the Afghanistan campain (urgently needed) Dingo heavy protected vehicles where taken out of use because they needed a renewed (civilian!!) emmision test certificate. This sounds crasy, yes it absolutely is - on the other hand Germany is one of the most secure countrys in the world with the highest security standards....The decision to send Marders (at a time all problems with the 16 Puma where fixed) and not the Pumas was a political decision made by an incompetend defence minister Mrs. Lambrecht and a weak inspector general. The first was replaced in office imediately after this event, the later was also fired a few weeks ago.....P.S. The Puma is "so bad", that Germany odererd a few weeks ago another 130 of the latest Puma S1 variant and also decided yesterday to spend 1 Billion USD to upgrade the older first lot of 130 Pumas also to the S1 standard.....
