I never say the greatest, but she was certainly one of the greatest. I wish the screen hadn’t gone dark midway through her speech because it probably showed her real emotions one of the few times that you could see them.

Sadly, like Cary Grant - she was a free agent almost of her career. Thus, no big studio truly campaigned for her Oscar during her heyday.

Barbara Stanwyck's range was incredible. She's not as appreciated as she should be. But that's easy to fix: her archive is voluminous. And thank God for movie restoration.

Barbara always kept her figure. I wonder if she worked hard to stay so thin. She always looks so fit and thin in her movies and they say how the camera adds 10 pounds at it really does. She must have been tiny in person.

She was 74-years-old when that happened. What is terrifying is that she was awoken to the man standing in her bedroom. She could have easily been killed if the man had been a worse sort of criminal. After dealing with that, three years later (1985) her home caught on fire and had an estimated $1.5mil in damages. Adjusted for inflation, that is $3.9mil. She was definitely not left to live the last of her years in complete peace.

Until a year or so ago---meaning for a little over 60 years---I'd associated Barbara Stanwyck pretty exclusively with Westerns. However, I stumbled upon "Night Nurse" and "Baby Face" and got snagged by her magic. So many times watching "Baby Face" I can't help saying aloud "OH she is ROTTEN to the CORE!!!!!!!" Her eyes go from Bambi-like to cold and vicious. She OWNED those poor guys with her soft eyes then they'd be like a sawmill. She can be as tough as a bucket of nails, then as elegant as can be. As for diversity, she was the Charlize Theron/Renee Zelweger of her time.

The show ran for one season. FYI, each episode was a kind of pilot episode. The best episode would be chosen. Barbara and characters would star. No episode made the grade with a network. They didn’t see any potential in any episode to be a long running series for Barbara. No lie, research if you’re interested!

It is ironic that Barbara Stanwyck won the Emmy that year over both Reed and Young , two Oscar winners . She never won an competitive Oscar ! Also ironic that the presenter is Shirley Booth who won both ! The Emmy was handed to her by Dick Powell . All three nominees were there and all three were presenters.
