Awesome presentation! I have to admit though that the Dojo floor angled at 30 degrees or so would upset my OCD even performing a short kata such as the TEKI series :) But it's a matter of getting used to it I guess...

Believe me, I am with you on that one... It is one of my many OCD issues with the dojo :-P

This is very useful! I'm currently learning the kata and need stances and transitions clarifying, which this video most excellently does.
I appreciate the point about the angle of the backstep age-enpi. It feels strange going from 45 degrees to front facing, but as I understand it from the video it's sort of both?

Cmon Scott. When are we going to give up on the nonsense of initiating a rotation on HEELS.
It is impossible to do in any other surface other than the smooth one you practice in.
Because in any other one you'll destroy to shreds your supporting knee.
Correct should be 90 deegrees turn on your bold of the foot and then reposition the foot on your heels once body weight is no longer on that leg.
Old masters were great, but turning on the heels should go the way of the dodo.
With that rant, I thank you so much for all the wonderful videos. You inspire me.

Yeah, I agree. I teach a lot of stuff where I pivot on the ball. And any natural movement should be ball of foot.
But pivoting on the heel is a training mechanism to create better inner thigh muscle connection. Once you have this, heel pivoting is unimportant.
However, within the form of the kata, within the art of the kata, within the performance of the kata, then pivoting on the heel is important.

@@Hombudojokarate I see. You mean that "squeeze" feeling to better understand the "contract" phase before "expanding" again. Thanks !
