It’s ability to baton that easily through aussie hardwood compared to a larger knife like BK7 is very interesting I’m also interested in the Extrema Ratio Selvans Dutch Bushcraft Knives channel boys agreed unanimously that the Selvans was the best ‘production’ survival knife they have ever brutally tested, they were shocked at how well it performed in every test when at first by the looks of it they didn’t like it at all, however one of them still really saw the A1 Pro as an very close second Another knife they ranked near to being the best survival knife was the TRC Apocalypse but rarely in stock so it’s hard to recommend it to their viewers because it’s only made in batches. They still seemed to rank the Selvans above it anyway
I cringe using a knife batoning through wood. My pack always has my axe and a saw. That said, I have an A1 myself for years now (uncoated version), and there is no other knife out there that batons through wood for days as a beast like the Fallkniven. If I were to theoretically choose "just one knife/tool" for the End of Days, the Fallkniven A1 would be that knife. My biggest gripe with the A1 is I wish it was a thinner stock blade. Not a big fan of quarter inch knives. Also keep in mind other versions of the A1 keep getting thicker and thicker! I've been debating getting the S1 lately.
I HATE the poor ergonomics of extrema ratio handles. The Selvans is bettered in every way by the Fox Trapper! Now the TRC Apocalypse has that A1 Pro geometry and is just so superior to most medium survival knives!
I want to get the pro version of that knife. After having knives that have tight fitting sheaths, that one appeals to me for a knife that you use a lot - easy to take the knife out and stow away when you're using it and with an effective retention strap for when you're not.
I used mine camping to try batoning. to of it is has several gouged out areas. I am 105 not very stron woman and was way disappointed with the knife. Tried to make curls in wood. Unless its soft wood doesn't do well on hard wood.
Mine does great on hardwoods. How big "gouges" are you talking about? Are you sure you have an authentic Fallkniven and not a knock off? All Fallkniven edges will have some micro chipping issues from the factory new. This is normal. After use and resharpening the micro-chipping goes away.
Wait, you can't use it to strike firesteel/ferro rod? Or it has a drawback? I didn't quite understand, could you clarify? I wanna use this for bushcrafting, not a big deal if you can't but it's a nice feature with carbon knives.
Mario Paul you can ferro off the spine, but its not super hard so eventually the rod will leave minor indentations in the soft 420 stainless cladding. In an emergency, yes, but its not an ideal primary striker
Love this knife the sheath is good enough but I did upgrade to a leather sheath with a fire steel loop and a stone holder own a lot of knives but If shtf I’m pretty sure this is one knife that will be in my hip alout great video crazy how much more stuff costs in Australia but what ya gonna do.
Is the handle KRATON or THERMORUN? After all the videos I've watched over the years, I got an A1 and the handle material is different to F1 and S1! It's softer 'tacky' rubber
You sure you got a real deal Fallkniven A1 and not a China knockoff? Where did you buy it from? Does your edge have a full convex grind and lamination line?
@@pennsyltuckyreb9800 I bought from ebay from a guy in the next state. Yeah it's the real deal, I've used and tested the heck out of it. Beautiful blade with perfect convex edge. Just the handle is very slightly tacky... it has not gotten any worse
@@brendan2359 Interesting. Weird. Mine has never been like that. I wonder if some sort of chemical got onto it by the previous owner? Something that reacts with the Kraton and started breaking it down to make it tacky? Some sort of oil/solvent like WD-40, or I've read Deet in bugspray can start affecting it as well.... I would maybe try and wash the handle in dish soap and water. Let it dry out. Then if it's still tacky maybe just try and wrap the handle in hockey tape? That sucks. I've read a few stories of guys saying their kraton handles have broken down over many years of use. I think you could also send it in to Fallkniven and have them resharpen and rehandle the blade for a small fee plus shipping...or if you know someone else or can do it yourself....
@@pennsyltuckyreb9800 I think you are right. Could have been a spill or cleaned with something. Could have been heat too, maybe stored in a car? Temps inside parked cars get pretty high here in Australia. Or maybe from sitting in a cupboard not being used for 10 years? The blade was in mint condition when I bought it. I've just taken it out now and it is just the same not breaking down further which was my fear. That is a good suggestion about tape and sending it over to Fallkniven.
Yeah think ive seen all your reviews on the S1 now, haha. Seems like a good choice. 5 inch blade is a good size for most tasks. Dont think i would ever use a knife for chopping. Where abouts in Aus do you live?
I want to get the Pro-Version for some time now, not a Fan of the handguard on this one. But the price for the new version is over the top, probably because uf the steel, which nobody was asking for. I've been using the F1 as a survival blade for 2 years but kust switched back to my Cold Steel SRK because of the better handguard. Still really like the review, keep it up! Greetings RaubElch
Thanks man! The pro is massive! I want to get the S1 Pro to have one from each line. Check out Big Brown Guys vids on his A1 pro for a full spectrum look at the knife
Ouch, I just looked it up and the Fallkniven A1 goes for 300€ here, that`s half my monthly income, so nope, not gonna get one xD I can get TWO Lt Wright Genesis for that money xD
300? Are you kidding me? Why dont they just point a gun at you and take your wallet while they are at it? Get it from amazon if they will ship to Germany or from Czech Republic. Here I can find it for slightly less than 200 euro. Im really glad I got it way back when they sold them for 120 though.
+Enlowra yeah! Fallkniven actually used several design pointers from the SRK on this knife. They used to distribute for Cold Steel before they made their own blades. The main difference is the more gentle swedged drop point vs the more abrupt SRK clip point, and the protrutding tang. And of course the convex grind :)
Yeah, its a fair investment, especially when you can get the pretty similar SRK for as low as $66 from Cleaver Firearms depending on the steel. This is a lot nicer than the SRK though.
That's way to expensive for such a crappy sheath IMHO esp with new companies like Steelwill who make awesome stainless blades with really good sheaths. Yes that F1 is a wicked beast but like many other high end knives on the market they all have a less expensive alternative that can do the same for a fraction of the cost. ........Yes I'm jealous and coveting your blade LOL.
+Kevin McCall That's great man, but I think any knife that cost as much as that one should definitely come with somewhat of a high end sheath. That crappy thing is no different than a Mora sheath with a weird shape and a nylon strap, yes it's just a $2 "sheath" on a $200+ knife.
The sheath is damn ugly, thats for sure. but it works very well for its intended use. cleans easilly can whitstand icey cold or warm weather. as for the design, that Squareish" design is probably influensed by japanese knives. its an eyesore but a good one.i have this Zytel and a custom kydex and even an pre Zytel original A1 Kydex sheath for it.
Oye, brother! I just sold my bk10, and finally pulled the trigger on the A1, because of you. Appreciate the content........ Love, a mental american👊
Awesome review! The A1 is the best knife ever to grace my hands. Hate that I sold it, but recently purchased the a1 pro! Top notch!
Heck yeah!!!! Love that knife, I just got mine two weeks ago, still have to test it out. The feel is great in my hand great weight to it.
That was what struck me first. Feels bombproof doesnt it!
Great knife Great review. A1 and F1 is perfect combo! btw the battle scars on the coating is just damn cool! Take care and have fun!

If you place the knife into the sheath, blade to its LEFT, it will not rattle, AND the sheath will hold it very securely.
Ya, my favourite knife, use it and u will know how good it is

yeah! im inclined to agree. Totally understand those that are wanting a bit more though :)
...and are you hankering after an A2 now?
If you use the crusher you are likely to damage the kraton handle? At least with scales you can replace them.

What's the float value on yours? I've never seen one so battlescarred before.
Yes the SRK aint as good in some tasks but you get 3SRK's in CPM3V for 1 A1 in VG10

Nice review. Deciding to get this or the S1. A1 is a lot of money and a lot of weight. Think ill go the smaller S1 with leather sheath.
Mags S1 is a great choice and one of my favorite knives

Mags south australia, in the riverland near the vic border
About the tension on the sheath. Maybe you can try this: ruclips.net/video/_ZLRY2k38Fs/видео.html
Great video, Sir !
Other than the metal, how does it compare with the Cold Steel SRK ?
Same question
The A1 is levels above an SRK. Not even same league even though they both look very similar to one another.
@@pennsyltuckyreb9800, how ?
In your opinion is it worth 4 mora garbergs?
I reckon no knife is worth 4 Garbergs. But, that will depend on what you draw value from.
If you really use it, it will not stay black for a long time.
Yeah the knife coating on these are kind of pointless, IMO. I got mine without it. I loathe serrations and any knife coatings.
