I've always found Ahmedinejad to be eloquent and intelligenct and he's no different here. WHY can't Iran have weapons for self defence? On the same note why does the US still need 1000's of nukes, decades after the fall of the Soviet Union? Double standards, me thinks.
Mahmoud simply asks the question: Do the Palestinian Arab refugees not deserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? If Americans consider this important question, and the accept that your nation is support an intrinsically racist state of Israel, then you undermine your own constitution and the values that you profess to hold close to your heart.
this dude was at our concordia university in montreal, i tell ya chaos broke loose and people weren't quite please of his presence. i believe it was in 2003 if i recall.
Peace now. He is a human being just like rest of us. Fear blurs our vision and corrupts our minds. In this video, his remarks are very articulate and logical. and Iran's submission to the nuclear watch proves his points. Be brave and cast aside your fears for a moment of clear communication.
I know what is happening in Iran. But i have good sensitive feelings of this guy. He never lie,he prefers dont talk then lie. This for me is a good point.
Ahmadinejad is an extremely smart man. He can tech the Americans a lot about running a successful country. with the years of sanctions against Iran, it is still the 16th largest economy in the world. 2nd largest producer of oil in OPEC and the 2nd, only to Russia, in the extraction of natural gas. This man is a hero and should be regarded as one. Iran is technologically advanced, just like the US and Canada.
i am still young and i acknowlege that when it comes to social/ human interaction i still have a lots to learn. but i wonder how far do one suspicions must go before one start trusting someone. befor i start watching his interviewS i was convinced that his intention was to get the weapon. now i believe that nothing indicates that it is the case. yet i still find comments like the one you see here that shows people are not convinced should i go with the certainty of other or my uncertainty?
I agree with you, there is this hysteria in the US over this man, but when I have seen him speak he is very logical and cogent, and speaks delicately with a great deal of respect. I think the irrational fear and hatreds of Americans toward this MUSLIM (key word) really represents just everything that is dysfunctional and backward about our education system and society's awareness as a whole.
Yes your right dude. My french is crappy "ete" I think is summer not state "etat" what I meant in the first place. I'm a native spanish speaker. Sometimes is difficult to me to write english expressions adequately.
Such policies have made it exceedingly difficult for Iran diversify its trade relations, although unions such as EU have clearly informed its members not to participate in the actions propogated by the ISLA. However, it must be conceded that the ISLA has not totally crippled the Iranian economy; competition of companies not based in the USA continues in Iran, and pipeline and gas extraction equipment is being supplied to Iran by non US based manufacturers...
I am not saying that the old government in Iran didn't face instability or problems in the region, however, the magnitude of the conflict in the region has definately escalated since pahlavi, with the acquirement of more advanced weaponry by Israel, Iran and other other groups such as Hezbollah, which raises the level of damage and displacement that can be brought about through aggression. Additionally, US intervention in Iran during the 1950's to reinstall Shah Palhavi led...
The US gov. would have us believe diplomacy is difficult with this man. Our diplomats should have the wisdom and ability to attain their objectives without threatening his culture.
I have looked into this matter of Iran threatening to wipe Israel off the map. The exact words, in Farsi, uttered by Ahmadinejad on 25 Oct. 2005 were: "Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad." Israel is not spoken of by name, only the regime occupying Jerusalem. There is no mention either of map or wiped out. Correct translation: The Iman said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time.
Hasmanizadmani says "name me one person in high ranks of this goverment who has actually gone and got a degree from university" Ahmadinejad Ph.D. on transportation engineering and planning from the Science and Technology University of Iran. Oh yeah, and he also talks about religion/spirituality with great wisdom. And your point is?
@Redcaster916 Bottom line is - you can't choose whether to fight when your opponent wants to fight. You can only choose the time and place. That's in the better case.
And to be perfectly clear, the issue is power. The US doesn't want a veto on invasion. Nukes are a veto on invading any country. We talk about WMDs but the only countries we WON'T invade are the ones that actually have them. The US doesn't want to be impeded from invading. If Iraq had a nuke there would be no occupation right now cuz the US couldn't have invaded and been the country to kick off nuke war. Race, however is the dividing line over who can have nukes and who cannot.
To me, I understand his viewpoint. In that, I found hyprocritcal of other possessing nuclear nations not to allow other countries to have it. Alhtough the non-proliferation act involves those involved. I don't recommend anybody to have it. But the benefit of doubt of somebody to have it should be considered.
I absolutely agree with you,I don't know why Iranians suffer from a short memory, they don't seem to be able to remember Rafsanjani's time when his security forces crushed any criticism so cruelly, they don't seem to remember Islam shahr massacre.
@mcamoran why would the us arrest a head of state? - of any country? do you think that the us would gain anything by it? what would be the point? thats not to say iran is in cahoots with the us. but its nothing to wonder about...
I hope he gets elected again. If I lived in Iran, I would vote for him! God bless him and the Grand Ayatollah. Insha Allah, their prayers, our prayers will be heard and the Holy Imam, The Awaited One will reappear from occultation in our lifetime to restore Righteousness, Justice and True Freedom to the world. Masha Allah! May God grant Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a long life and be pleased with him and bless his family with good fortune.
to a more authoritarian form of government in Iraq under the Shah (the Shah ahd to do this to maintain political stablity), although this had not been the Shah's intention before he was sent into exile. This authoritarian movement in the government was a major hurdle towards more fairly representative govenments in Iran. Additionally, the actions of the US provided a context for many Muslim hardline conservative to brodcast their views to the populace and increase in popularity...
due to the frustration in the Iranian populace towards US intervention policies. In conclusion, the situation in Iran and its surrounding regions has been made a lot more "touchy" through US Intervention, something which did not happen when Shah Palhavi was in power before being sent into exile. I am NOT excusing Ahmadinejad for many policies of his that I find questionable, however, what I am suggesting is that the international community, especially the US, should spend more efforts...
"Heres a Curly Quote, translated by a Farsi-speaking reporter: "The foundation of the Islamic regime is opposition to Israel and the perpetual subject of Iran is the elimination of Israel from the region." Khameini Jan 15, 2001." It has now been proven that this statement was never said. Zionism was the translation not Israel. Do some research on the topic!
Agha: I see the nature of despotism through this man and through the streets of Tehran and other parts of Iran. Iran used to be such a peaceful country with Iranians being so easygoing and calm. My point is that Iranians are not a vehement group of people who want to rally every day and are by no means prone to protest or try to overthrow the government by illegal means, such as terrorist attacks. So what made scores of Iranians throng the streets to demand clean politics?
he definitly said that as a way of inciting social unrest towards iran, making him look like more of a fighter against americanism. we know he does not believe that the holocaust was a myth although i dont believe he actually explicitly said it was. he did say he wanted people to embrace multiple interpretations. it was a clever political maneuver, allowing him to be correct about scientific inquiriy, but piss off everyone over a subject that is often taboo.
Nuclear weapons are entirely useful as leverage against nations that do not have them, and also as neutralizer against those who do. In this respect what he would call the most outdated nation would also be the most dangerous one with the most militaristic influence. "sigh"
How to get rid of the regime illegaly occupying Palestine wasnt exactly a blood bath like pinkcanary is used to his leaders dealing with things. Ahmadinejad cleared that up right after the famous missquotation, saying the solution is a free referendum in which all the inhabitants of Palestine could participate under certain very fair guarantees, but of course your media didnt show that as it never questioned Iraq having or not WMDs.
i was not familliar with the middle east but i have recently looked into the matter. and it appear (Knowingly or unknowingly) our media have mis-coted him he never talked about the physical Israel but rather the reality of Israel as a state which in ideology is much like south Africa not so long ago. As for Gaza i don't know if he is helping them but if he is it will be like giving a knife to a kid who is about to fight 3 grown ups with machetes. not really the christian thing to do
Do you honestly believe this internal conflict would be a wise situation in Iran, with Radical and conservative elements running around in Iran while there are facilities with nuclear capabilities (both power and bomb development)have a possbility to fall into the hands of these people? (this is a much greater risk compared to Iraq, where supposed "factories" only had the "potential" to create "weapons of mass destruction")
In essence, the Iranian economy is not doing so well at the moment, and this trend is likely to continue as long as the middle-east region expeiences political instability. It is quite unfair to point fingers at individuals given the instability of Iran's localities as well as the "touchy" foregin relations situations it is experiencing with the many other nations such as the USA.
@Redcaster916 Philosophy is great in general; But when you are under attack you either defend yourself or be conquered. Counter attack is just another form of smart defense, where the fight is done on the offender's territory, rather than on your own.
we never invade countries for oil n shits we are 7000 yrs old country n proud n we put dwn whoeva even think of invading our soul, love n country LONG LIVE IRAN...
Tell me..why would iran be not allowed to use nuclear power when in compliance with IAEA regulation? First iran doesn't have much refineries and is thus dependent on imported oil and gas.Second..why is it that the USA sold 6 nuclear reactors to Iran when they had their puppet, the Sjah, installed and praised him for acknowledging the finite nature of oil and opting for NE.. Double Standards anyone? US got plenty..
@Freethinker12341 your username is freethinker!!! Iran already has 2 nuclear warheads, in fact they've had them for the past 20 years, so how come they haven't used them?!
I actualy liked the way he answered to Charlie Rose. What i think it is only my opinion, but Charlie Rose tryed to make him angry or something...And we do not have to remember that only ONE country used Nukes and guess which it was :). ...
@Redcaster916 What really bothers me is the feeling that the difference is deeper. What I just layed down on you is based on human history and research analysing it. What you suggested was human knowledge. The problem is that apparently for you that human knowledge did not conflict with history, neither did it conflict with the current world situation.
@Redcaster916 There is a major difference, in that unlike Iran (and Saddam Hussein, Taliban and Al-Kaeda organizations), no developed country claims world domination through military power. That's why nobody has a problem with that e.g. Belgium gets a nuclear bomb, but everybody has a problem when North Korea or Iran do
He's the best spokesman I've heard, watch all of his other interviews even if you don't agree..
first time i've seen him talk in detail like this. He's a good speaker and he makes good points. Amazing the power of charisma.
Mahmoud Ahadinejad is one of the most charismatic and intellligent leaders of today. A man of peace and has integrity and honesty
This guy is toooo smart for the western world.
I've always found Ahmedinejad to be eloquent and intelligenct and he's no different here.
WHY can't Iran have weapons for self defence? On the same note why does the US still need 1000's of nukes, decades after the fall of the Soviet Union?
Double standards, me thinks.
I'm from Sri Lanka . You are one of my favourite leaders. Iran have a grate leader

Be brave and cast aside your fears for a moment of clear communication.
you are still alive ?
Never heard Ahmedinejad talk before, but he talks sense! and what's more.. in his own national language! way to go!
I know what is happening in Iran.
But i have good sensitive feelings of this guy.
He never lie,he prefers dont talk then lie.
This for me is a good point.

I love Respected and global loving personality Mr Ahmadi Nejad
That being said...he did make a decent point

who's the translator? She's pretty good
wow very good answer
@mrzipdisk
For sure and why did many interpret as he did?
Dr Ahmadinejad is making a lot of sense here, He is very smart.
charlie rose was in holland?
This guy totally runs logical circles around old Charlie Rose.

He meant "2 in the neighborhood" or the Middle-East is what he meant. He wasn't talking about the entire world.
Well, I'm a Ron Paul supporter and a lot of people call him RuPaul, so I guess in some long-winded way I'm sympathetic to your cause.
If the USA had a president that was as smart and as shrewd as this guy, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now.
its our right and we fight to have it not only for our own protection but also to regain and glorify the Persian power which we had once!
Charlie Rose got owned

Our english is far from perfect but at least we can express our ideas in a foreign language.

@Rainy2001 english is just a language. btw i think his PhD is in civil engineering not in english literature.
