Another thing to watch out for is that some paint effects when converted can cause the rendering time to slow down unusually, and it's something to do with the default shader which was applied to the paint effects when they were converted. To fix it just apply a new shader to them and you will find they render sometimes 30x quicker than it did with the default material. It doesn't happen all the time, and I don't know why it happens.
Hi....thank you for this video....this well help me in future project sure...i want to ask you 1 Question that i have saw some of the plugins for foliage and i am useing paint effects for last 3 year in production in reputed studio...but i have to ask you that painteffects is better to use in production or there are some other plugin also available...? we have use painteffects in Hollywood release movie and DvD......
Thanks...I'll try that. Also, I tried that website for the statue and it didn't come up. No worries, I'm sure I can get something similiar at turbosquid. Thanks again!!! Nice tutorial..
May i ask if it is possible to apply a brush effect on a whole polygon ( in an instant) like applying fur to a polygon, but instead using a grass brush? Thank you in advance
Sounds like you only animated the motion of the object, you have to key frame the extrusion by itself. i.e. first key frame the motion, then move to the selected position on the time line, pres extrude (don't move anything yet) and key frame (by pressing S key), then move the extruded parts and press S again.
this series is really cool! im trying to achieve these results with maya 2016 but for some reason when scrubbing through my timeline nothing happens. i tried a playblast too and it just stays static. any help with this would be very appreciated! thanks!
Hello sir, I try to animate a ball that falls out of the sky and hits the ground. after that some parts extrude and a canon comes out the ball. When I'm done with animation and play it from the start, I still see the extruded parts and the canon. How should I solve that?
and if we can use painteffects in that much level then why autodesk are not in plan to develop a bit...?i have never seen any improvement in painteffects...
I'll never understand why people go out of their way to make 3D modeling as boring as possible. Take the interface here. It's gray. Gray left, gray right. The model is gray, the background is gray. It's all gray. Why?
it's grey, so you can see the colours better, same like editing softwares, if you are working with colours and your interface is coloured, it will look different than when it's grey! Not all colours will go together , so they chose grey, it's natural and don't effect other colours and the model is grey because it's a base! it's about the effect, not about the model
Still 7 years before, this video is valuable. Thank you.
me here after 10 yrs ,still feels so much valuable
12 years later, maya2024, and this vid is still helpful

Have you fixed it yet?
+Josh Black no apparently it's broken in maya 2016. I had to download maya 2015, create and animate them there and then export it to my 2016 file
use legacy viewport instead of 2.0
thank you sir!
Thank you soo much!! :DD

can you use paint effects tool to create a field of tall grass that creates to a off camera creature walking through it? If yes, how?
Does this work much differently in maya 2017
Very similar, I just tried it now with maya 2018
OMG.... How did you get morgan freeman to do your voice over? (O.o) ... :) Great tutorial btw very usefull...
How do you "resume" a curve? I wasn't sure how that was done.
thanks
Great tutorial however im using mental ray to render and the vines wont show up when i render do you know why that may be????

"Let's go ahead"
The problem is you're three years late.

I work like 9 hours a day with Maya, my poor eyes need the dark grey colour hahah
Almost ten years later still a rotten feature in Maya, nothing new here
