Let's also mention here that "Byzantine Music" is just another genre of Music like Rock, Pop, Jazz, etc. All those genres are written in a common "language", except Byzantine, which is written in its own neumes. This outdated "tradition" only serves to hurt it because it can't keep up with our digital era. I want to see mainstream Byzantine music in the all common five-line staff notation just like every other and then we can define the technicalities, ie. modes and key signatures, modal harmony, tone of expression etc, which obviously will greatly differ from the classic.
