Does it move over to the slow lane when there's someone behind you but not in front? That would be revolutionary cause it seems humans haven't figured that out yet.
As an Audi driver myself, I can assure you that's complete bullshit. I am routinely ashamed of people who drive the same car as me, especially as I try to distance myself from their style of driving (having owned a little VW before this and experienced Audi drivers first hand). I can see future arguments developing with Tesla cars as they get smarter. Gangs of Tesla cars hanging out not doing what there owners tells them. Late night shenanigans.
This system is amazing and I admire Tesla's engineering effort. My only worry is that in a few decades autonomous cars will be so ubiquitous and deemed safer than human drivers, thus outlawing driving altogether. As someone who enjoys driving a lot, that's a big concern I have.
+Paul Hojda well if the police also uses autonomous cars they will have to be crazy good to catch the skilled drivers :P And I think allot of people will just say f*ck off if any government tries to outlaw driving.
+Paul Hojda i share you cocern but if they come to take my driving licence they will will have to rip it from my dead hands cas i love driving too much and this system to me its like a driving aid its good for long distances so if i had a system like this on my car i would use after about 2 or 3 hours of driving on the motorway after i get borred

Great video! to clarify: - Liability: To enable Autosteer Beta (part of the Autopilot suite), you have to accept a disclaimer that tells you to always have your hands on the steering wheel. Also, you should always use it on a highway/motorway with a median and in good visibility. Also, every time you enable Autosteer (pull the lever twice), a dashboard message tells you to always have your hands on the wheel and be prepared to take over at any moment. The driver is still 100% liable and responsible for what happens. - there aren't pressure points in the steering wheel, it's torque sensitive. - my one doesn't crap itself with changing road surfaces. Actually it continues in the same direction for some seconds. If then it's still confused, you have to take over. - If there are no road lines for some time, it tries to follow the guy in front.- If the road is straight, it doesn't even get on your nerves with "Hold steering wheel" (went 100km like that). It only does this in tighter curves and when the markings are strange. - In tighter curves, it slows down itself to a sensible speed and accelerates when you're on the straight again. - Auto lane change has to be initiated by the driver but either clicking the blinker in or holding it in the respective direction. It then checks its surroundings and pulls over. Also, you have to "Hold the wheel", but giving it a tug also works. This prevents the car moving over by someone who accidently hit the blinker. Letting go of the blinker before the lane change is complete will have the car center in the closest lane. - The Autopilot suite also includes front and side collision protection from which the latter is the more interesting. If you miss a guy in the blind spot, it will beep and vibrate the steering wheel. If you still turn the wheel, it will "resist steer", like force feedback on PC racing wheels. Sure, you can still override it, but you instantly know that the other lane is occupied. Save me one time already from hitting a motorcyclist in my blind spot. Front collision breaks by itself if it detects an object in front. Didn't have the pleasure to experience it myself, thankfully, but someone else posted a really impressive dashcam video. Something like "Tesla autopilot saves the day". - Autopark (not shown here) is a parallel parking assistant. You pass a parking spot and you get an indication on the dashboard. You then shift into reverse and hit "start" on the center console. From there on, the car does everything on its own and shifts into park after that. In my opinion cooler that what other manufacturers do at the moment, where you still have to break and accelerate and shift gears, which, from what I can say myself, is pretty annoying and even slower than doing everything myself. The Tesla Autopark is pretty fast and probably even too fast :) But you learn to trust it. It even parks faster than myself with under 30 seconds for a really tight gap. - But most importantly, and what some people don't realize is that Autopilot works as a platform for fleet learning of roads and lanes. And that's what will be crucial for full autonomy. Because if you have normal satnav maps, you don't get every individual lane. A fully autonomous car that is told to "drive to grandma" would not be able to intelligently calculate routes without knowing lanes and perhaps if some of them are closed, or even a whole road section. All data recognized by Autopilot is sent to a main server and back to the entire fleet. Some even got to know this themselves as one guy reported that he had to yank the wheel on the highway, because the lane split into a exit. The car wanted to follow the off ramp. Two or three commutes of doing this later, Autopilot stayed inside the original lane. Other drivers could confirm this on this exact location. Pretty cool in my opinion. Wow, that's a lot of text. Have a nice weekend!
Hello to the people in the year 2057 watching this and laughing at how we are reacting to such a basic technology you now take for granted - we did the same with mobile phones and TVs.
There are 10 year olds right now who will feel that way by age 20. Seriously, most people are still unaware of the imminent flood of self-driving tech that is coming. By 2025 it will be so commonplace. The entire mobility infrastructure is being restructured as I type, and will look much different for many people in just 20 years time. For me, I'm buying a Tesla Model III in 2017, so I won't have to wait that long!
+ssj4goko4 But they need to add like a Bostonian accent. When it needs you to take control it should say "I'm in wicked deep shit, get yo fucking paws on my wheel right now". Also I wonder how it holds up facing masshole drivers.
+I RIDE A MOTORCYCLE You're a moron, that much is clear. Did your dumbass only read the headlines of the news articles referring to the car accident or are you illiterate? I'm going to go with you being illiterate. The only person who killed someone was the semi truck driver failing to yield and blocking a highway not the Tesla driver, Tesla computers, or the Tesla autopilot. The fact still remains that no death has ever been caused by a Tesla in autopilot mode. Maybe you should seek out the assistance of a 5th grade student for tutoring since you lack basic reading comprehension skills.
This could definitely help with traffic congestion. The cars can coordinate with each other easily, so traffic issues will lessen. That's what I'm most excited about for the future.
+omar khan It does. Due to fleet learning, if someone runs people over with the car, it will learn that and soon every Tesla will autonomously run into crowds of people. not. :D

The aim for this autopilot is to be relaxed in highway and fresher when you arrive at your destination, but how you supposed to relax, when you not 100% believe in this system?? You're getting nervous when the car brakes itself, and etc. Quite irony isn't it?? Haha
yeahh.....i know. But for know i'm still 100% not believe in this system, especially because i live in developing country where infrastructures are not quite good as europe or USA and may perhaps confusing the system itself.
I don't think it would take 10 years if you had one. Yes the first day out, I would be nervous also, 2 months of using it, I would be meh, don't care, it works, "Oh look at that car over there". You just get used to things after a bit.
Yep pretty much. When computers first started they had to do so much shit just to get it started and more load a simple program. Now we can press a button to power up and double click to play a game with ease.
I just drove a 2015 S on the freeway with auto-pilot. It is entirely surreal being in a car at highway speeds and not being in control of the vehicle. The thing which impressed me is that it manages that with only one camera. I can imagine how safe the system would feel with an 8 camera setup.
The one thing I can't stop thinking about is... How long will these electronic systems actually last? I mean they're cool and all but holy fuck there's a loooot of things that could fail.
ljguy300 Well in theory it's no problem but we all know the issues that many modern car makers with fancy electronics have faced like Renault. I don't mean to be an old grandpa but I can't see someone buying a used 2015 Tesla in 2030 without any problems.
+SlipknotMaggot0526 all far easier to diagnose than anything mechanical. my mp3 player has never stopped working. iv had to replace a few CD and cassette players. my mk2 diesel was a pig because of mechanical fuel pump. my mk4 is a beast thanks to electronically controlled fuel injection. all im saying is that digital has less of a research and development curve than analog. once the bugs are ironed out which takes less time then analog it will be far superior.
My Skoda Superb DSG with lane assist, automatic speed/distance/braking control and traffic jam assist requests driver steering input every 20 seconds but otherwise drives itself. I'm completely relaxed and can drive long distances or heavy traffic jams without driver fatigue. It is definitely the future.
+Mr.K Lel, "out drag" , you mean when the car isnt gonna break down? Yes, complete torque at all rpms, still, Tesla is slow and unreliable as fuck, not to mention you can barely make 1 1/4 mile run before the battery runs out
Akula Markov True, but if the driver isn't doing anything or paying attention to the road at all, really, the driver in the seat is just required for legal reasons.
+NinjaPig No I own a Tesla Model S and the can be fully autonomous but the pay haven't gotten the go ahead with the government so they can't enable the feature
That's the problem we could get used to it which means slowly we are loosing driving and in a few years having a manual car could mean having a car that you steer
+Baron Nashor No way. He already said it has problems. Look at it, its having problems on a damn freeway. Try rush hour traffic in downtown Toronto. Ya see you there. lol. It will be another 15 years at least.
You can get a lot of this tech in a Golf - for years. Adaptive Cruise (comes as standard) does all the accelerating and braking. Add Lane Assist and it'll keep you in lane without touching the wheel - though you need to touch the wheel for safety reasons.
Ηλιας Λευκιας Tesla is making quality electric cars, in case of malfunction you can report the issue of the car, if the car crash because of computer malfunctionality, the company is willing to replace u a new unit to assure your safety
So if you keep it in this autonomous mode on the motorway, does it actually take the right exists towards your destination or does it just keep going straight?
The potential of autonomous vehicles is huge, so much money can be saved (minus the initial capital expenditure)! If you needed to get the airport let's say, normally it would cost you a crud tonne because you'd have to either keep your car parked there or get a taxi. But with this technology, your car could drive you there and then just drive itself back!
a grey steering wheel indicates that the autopilot is ready to engage but first it will find if this is the right choice like ok so this is the road i will focus here. if you notice the hold steering wheel warning hold it if you don't it will declare countermeasures and will indicate the warning first will alarm one second alarm twice third will indicate autosteer unavailable for the rest of the drive, stop in the middle of the road and automatically turns the blinkers this is also a safety feature like if you had a heart attack it will stops for u. if you drive back noticing that the grey steering wheel not popping up which is unable to use the autopilot. don't be scared or curious because its normal it will indicate back if you are in new session to drive.
My wife's Seat Leon has Line & Front assist, kind of a lower version of that Tesla autonomous mode, and on the Autobahn it's works quit impressive, you just have to trust the car is breaking correctly
this is really cool tech and is arguably very useful if you ignore the risk of glitches and such (im sure its very very safe and has been through dumb amounts of testing but still) but id feel too wird sitting behind the wheel of a car and watching it work for me
Actually, modern petrol cars need a computer, electric cars just need a speed controller, but usually have a computer too since theyre advanced and more in touch with electrons
You have to hold the steering wheel to verify that you are not sleeping otherwise it will stop. It's a good thing he did put his hand on the steering wheel otherwise he would get into huge trouble and cause traffic
This can only work in full if all the rest of vehicles are also autonomous. All drivers have encountered some really tough spots that even challenge a human (weird crossroads with narrow lines and wrong signs, accidents on the road, etc). Imagine if a human gets confused or almost confused how would the machine react? It could probably stop but that can lead to more problems. Because the rest of vehicles might be driven by humans who won't react same as machines. That's the problem
pher8487 why it doesnt like the car in that famous movie. can talk and drive??? just take me home and let me have a nap in the car would be wonderful..
Simple... Full disclosure between nearby vehicles. Each vehicle shares what it learned about the local road with all the adjacent vehicles. Each bump, turn and correction is known just a fraction of a second ahead of time from the vehicle ahead.
Does it move over to the slow lane when there's someone behind you but not in front? That would be revolutionary cause it seems humans haven't figured that out yet.
Move....over? What is this witchcraft?
+Seized Cheese Idk, i think I'll just slow down becuase I'm scared
+jhowe427 took me a couple read throughs to figure out what your saying until I figured it out!
and ROFL!
You made my day!
+jhowe427 no, you have to touch the steering wheel to change lanes. so still will be idiots about i'm afraid!
You can choose how far you want to be away... 3 car lengths, 2 car lengths, 1 car length, or bmw driver mode...
true
No that's Audi mode. If you're going to insult drivers for the car that they drive, at least get it right.
As an Audi driver myself, I can assure you that's complete bullshit. I am routinely ashamed of people who drive the same car as me, especially as I try to distance myself from their style of driving (having owned a little VW before this and experienced Audi drivers first hand). I find Audi, BMW, Merc and Volvo to be operated by utter fuckwits.
Don't forget white van driver mode
nothing to do with brands. I drove merc now Bmw. it's the person behind the wheel not the car brand.

+ljguy300 relays, fuses, switches to name a few.
ljguy300 Well in theory it's no problem but we all know the issues that many modern car makers with fancy electronics have faced like Renault.
+SlipknotMaggot0526 aren't fuses like a safety thing that's ment to go wrong?
Now cars will be hacked in future.
true. thats scary though.
Cars have already been hacked (without being near them) in the past. Not a new thing.
Lukas Schneller I mean u r driving and suddenly system gets hacked.
Watch Dogs 2
+Mike Lowrey lol
My Skoda Superb DSG with lane assist, automatic speed/distance/braking control and traffic jam assist requests driver steering input every 20 seconds but otherwise drives itself. I'm completely relaxed and can drive long distances or heavy traffic jams without driver fatigue. It is definitely the future.
My uncle's had a P85d for over a year and I still haven't ridden in it :( fml
+roberij05 then your uncle is a jerk xD
Do you have a driving license?
+Gonzalo Bueno and so is rober. If anyone i knew had a car the could out drag just about anything on the planet id be in it 24/7
fuckoffgoogle is the interior that bad?? That portrait tablet setup looks marvellous, I would have. 911turbo over a tesla but only just.
+Mr.K Lel, "out drag" , you mean when the car isnt gonna break down? Yes, complete torque at all rpms, still, Tesla is slow and unreliable as fuck, not to mention you can barely make 1 1/4 mile run before the battery runs out
Welp, now they're fully autonomous. The day has come.
Not fully autonomous. Mostly. You still need to be in the car.
Akula Markov True, but if the driver isn't doing anything or paying attention to the road at all, really, the driver in the seat is just required for legal reasons.
ArcFlash they will never say fully autonomous because if the car crashes, then it's the companies fault
+NinjaPig No I own a Tesla Model S and the can be fully autonomous but the pay haven't gotten the go ahead with the government so they can't enable the feature
adamor03 oh I'm sure you own one.
That's the problem we could get used to it which means slowly we are loosing driving and in a few years having a manual car could mean having a car that you steer
We are gonna lose manual (stick shift) in 2-3 years I think and lose the manual drive (controlling the car) in 4-5 years :( rip cars
+Baron Nashor No way. He already said it has problems. Look at it, its having problems on a damn freeway. Try rush hour traffic in downtown Toronto. Ya see you there. lol. It will be another 15 years at least.
+Horatio Huffnagel
It actually deals with traffic better as it follows the vehicle in front.
+Baron Nashor what makes you say that?
They already started self driving cars
You can get a lot of this tech in a Golf - for years. Adaptive Cruise (comes as standard) does all the accelerating and braking. Add Lane Assist and it'll keep you in lane without touching the wheel - though you need to touch the wheel for safety reasons.
iam loving that big ass screen build in...looks beautiful!
just imagine a bug on the system...
Ηλιας Λευκιας Tesla is making quality electric cars, in case of malfunction you can report the issue of the car, if the car crash because of computer malfunctionality, the company is willing to replace u a new unit to assure your safety
But is the company willing to replace ME? :D
dakibmw it is one of the safest car ever created.
Then you will be lucky. Cause tesla will pay you money, lots of money.
saeed atenzi good to have money when your dead hehe
Plz do some reaction vids where you drive this and wave both hands outta the window at other people on the motorway. That'd be funny af ;)
I’m not a fan of electric cars or Tesla but I love car throttle and Alex is a legend from the car gods so here I am
So if you keep it in this autonomous mode on the motorway, does it actually take the right exists towards your destination or does it just keep going straight?
It keeps on going straight.
It will suggest a lane change to you to follow your route, but you have to initiate it, it won’t change without you telling it to
it does take exits and will stop at the end of the exit but wait for you to take over, at least from what i've seen on youtube
Just looking at the timestamps of these comments shows how it’s improving
that’s why you can plug your destination into the map. so you can chose where to go and it takes you. based on my friends mom that has one.
Elon Musk, really genius inventor !
But also a pretty stupid at the same time, he has some pretty crazy beliefs.
+4 Tonnes of Fury most of the worlds geniuses usually were eccentric
+4 TOnnes of Fury, are you talking about Elon's opinion on AI being potentially dangerous?
***** he thinks we live in a computer simulated world.
That's not a totally ridiculous theory though.
In South Africa this car would probably develop depression and self destruct.
XCentric what the hell lmao
11:35 I can't wait to see what this car is like in 1-2 years
8 years later - more or less the same
Ethan says "there's a lot of crap drivers out there" when he drives a Prius...
read it while he said that XD
Audi also has autopilot
+Mario Iacolucci no it dosent audi has speed limiter not the autopilot..
u mean cruise control?
"Look mom no hands!"
that GPS is freaking huge
I assume you mean the screen lol
it being 2018 the system has improved a lot and the amount of Teslas on the road are amazing
I understand this is cool and it is the future...but that means there will be no thrill in driving anymore.
DJ Karashmo it's basically a taxi for free
STEVIE G4M1NG
"free"
no driving will be fun but for tracks.... this is good when ur stuck in traffic where driving is not a pleasure
Smellier Moans yes you're right
DJ Karashmo well at least I could eat McDonalds while driving now..
i am in love with this car #see #you #soon #tesla
1:23 “all I need to do is to pull this lever back”
“Pulls it forwards”
The potential of autonomous vehicles is huge, so much money can be saved (minus the initial capital expenditure)! If you needed to get the airport let's say, normally it would cost you a crud tonne because you'd have to either keep your car parked there or get a taxi. But with this technology, your car could drive you there and then just drive itself back!
All I'd do in a Tesla...
*looks at car beside me*
"Look no hands!"
what if a moose or a buck or some animal or something ran out in front of you
+Matthew Dolbey It would detect it and apply the brakes probably faster than you could react
+Matthew Dolbey do you know how radar works?
+Nutz4Gunz45 I guess we shall need to see if that's true
+Matthew Dolbey I would like to see that test.
+Nutz4Gunz45 Me too
what about the bmw distance?
After the video....beginning to like the Tesla. The autopilot is a great feature surprisingly. Will be keeping eye out for future purchases.
I think we should go back to horses.
Horses make a lot of mess. I used to march in a band and we hated parades with horses in them.
I set my Mondeo's radar guided cruise to follow at 3 car lengths, 2 seconds later someone jumps in the gap......meh
"Ahhhhhhhhh, ehhhhhhhhhh, ahhhhhhh, ehhhhhhhhh this feels so weird, ehhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhh ehhhhhhh so weird"
Gay
a grey steering wheel indicates that the autopilot is ready to engage but first it will find if this is the right choice like ok so this is the road i will focus here. if you notice the hold steering wheel warning hold it if you don't it will declare countermeasures and will indicate the warning first will alarm one second alarm twice third will indicate autosteer unavailable for the rest of the drive, stop in the middle of the road and automatically turns the blinkers this is also a safety feature like if you had a heart attack it will stops for u. if you drive back noticing that the grey steering wheel not popping up which is unable to use the autopilot. don't be scared or curious because its normal it will indicate back if you are in new session to drive.
4:30 2016 type R
Main moral of the story:
This car can't operate in Australia.
Ryizer kovich yea it can
Audi lenght hahaha! That was funny :-)
My wife's Seat Leon has Line & Front assist, kind of a lower version of that Tesla autonomous mode, and on the Autobahn it's works quit impressive, you just have to trust the car is breaking correctly
Audi length where the BMW length at?
This would be great to traveling to other places
1:56 er mer gerd
this is really cool tech and is arguably very useful if you ignore the risk of glitches and such (im sure its very very safe and has been through dumb amounts of testing but still) but id feel too wird sitting behind the wheel of a car and watching it work for me
If this technology passes in Indian roads, then it can run on almost any of the roads.
Imagine some1 stole this car and it driv him to police😃😃😄😄
mir Momin lol that’d be rlly funny
That’s copied dude I’ve seen that. Moment before
Comment*
FREELANCE DRIVER : EXIST
TESLA : IM ABOUT TO END THIS MAN CAREER
My Mercedes has this and it is still difficult to "trust" it sometimes... But still, totally worth it in stop and go traffic.
This thing is very useful when you want eat 😂😂
The inevitable future of the automobile; fast, sexy, safe, spacious, autonomous electric vehicles.
I just hope there'll still be something analogue, and mechanical for us enthusiasts.
ShadowFalcon of course, there will always be, just like we still have horse and buggies now, lol.
+The Lavender Town Project haha ^^ but ure right guys...those electric cars are really cool...but a petrol car has his own emotions ;)
But requires a computer to power and use of it.
Actually, modern petrol cars need a computer, electric cars just need a speed controller, but usually have a computer too since theyre advanced and more in touch with electrons
Try this car in Tamilnadu roads for one-week result will be scrap
Ama bro gethu bro
@@sheelat4785 Scrapla porathila enna bro gethu?
Bro antha vandi break pote sethurum
Your driving here in England right!?
I recognised the road but I’ve never been to M4 I usually take M64.
"hits blunt"
If you on autopilot and you get out off the car. What will happen.
You can't
You have to hold the steering wheel to verify that you are not sleeping otherwise it will stop. It's a good thing he did put his hand on the steering wheel otherwise he would get into huge trouble and cause traffic
hi
+VortexX Bolt (Jacob) 👋
+Car Throttle hi
+TanveerVines Usual hi
+VortexX Bolt (Jacob) hi!
(sorry for bad english)
+Google Won't Get My Name! wow that is way more replies than I normally get.
Can Tesla drive it self in uk
Yes, until it reaches double mini roundabout.
Our roads are a clusterfuck
In india
No in the uk
This video is filmed in the uk you fucktard
This can only work in full if all the rest of vehicles are also autonomous. All drivers have encountered some really tough spots that even challenge a human (weird crossroads with narrow lines and wrong signs, accidents on the road, etc). Imagine if a human gets confused or almost confused how would the machine react? It could probably stop but that can lead to more problems. Because the rest of vehicles might be driven by humans who won't react same as machines. That's the problem
4:15 set it to 2 cm.
make the guy infront of you unable to stop due to stop = crash.
Hıyar Ağası RS he says 4,3,2 car length not cm
Can't trust it yet. Wait ten more years.
The guy who filmed this just died from a crash related to autopilot
+tommy mclean no he didn't you troll.. it was an ex navy seal called Joshua brown who died
just because someone died and the media inflates everything related to Tesla. read their actual blog post for facts
What are the facts?
pher8487 why it doesnt like the car in that famous movie. can talk and drive??? just take me home and let me have a nap in the car would be wonderful..
Human civilization is gonna turn out to be like Wall-E the movie
You earned my like for "STUPID"!!!!! at 52.😂😂😂 hilarious
Hold steering wheel
"Or what?"
But wouldn't this mean that your mind has nothing to concentrate on meaning you are more likely to sleep while driving.
lee Zamanyan sure but then the car slows down to a halt because you’re not actively engaging with the steering wheel every few minutes
i can do all that in a ae86
W
***** I was talking to Ryosuke
Ryosuke Takahashi Im just kiiiiiiiiiiiding, but you still a virgin
hy do you uave my name
Simple...
Full disclosure between nearby vehicles.
Each vehicle shares what it learned about the local road with all the adjacent vehicles.
Each bump, turn and correction is known just a fraction of a second ahead of time from the vehicle ahead.
