I chopped 12 inches off my hair recently but before that I used to do this all the time! You did such a great job explaining what to actually do I never could when I tried to tell my friends but I’ll send them this video to explain!
Note: For thick hair, try not to wrap your hair too tight around your finger/hand. Also, you can do two bun instead or until you get used to doing it. Most, if not all, Indian learn to tie their hair this way. When I straighten my hair, it won't stay in a bun, so I put on a hair band after tucking in the tail end &/or a decorative mini claw clip at the tail end to secure the hair in place. This way the bun will definitely last longer.
I used to do this when I was an archaeologist. Six weeks in the middle of flipping nowhere and minimal personal care (if someone was on their period they got first shower dibs so it was often the case I washed in sun-heated water from a local stream stored in a plastic tank) meant no matter how many elastics I had, I could never find one when I needed if. I didn't even learn it from anywhere, it just made sense to me to tie my hair in a knot of some form!

This only works with certain types of hair. Nothing will hold with my hair. Unless I secure with a thick hairtie for a bunch of hours. After that, remove the hairtie and it will stay. I had 2 knot buns similar to that in high school. For those with slippery hair, that's how you do it.
This doesn’t work with all hair types. Think, silky hair won’t stay like that. I can wrap my hair around itself and it stays in a bun, so my surprise when I braided the hair of someone with silky hair for the first time was immense- it’s so slippery 😂
Thank you for explaining this. I have really fine, really straight hair, and, even though it's really long, these tutorials never work for me. I always thought I was really bad at doing hair, but I guess it's just my hair type!
Thick hair really eats up length when doing styles. I have extremely long hair and still can't do some of the styles people with shorter hair do because so much of it is used up going around itself.
@@Ariri95 It also get's stuck like that lol. I would never dare try it. If i left it in for more than a couple hours it would absolutely get stuck together and I'd have to literally rip it back apart
This is me , I have extremely straight hair so this won't work. My mum , who has wavy hair, does this all the time. I tried to as a kid but failed haha
When my hair was long, I used to tie it up with a lock of my hair. I'd take the majority in a ponytail, just excluding a tiny lock from somewhere in the back. Id twist it in a snail bun and then use the spare lock to tie it going in the opposite direction of the bun. I could workout, run, dance, etc and it wouldn't fall.
This only works if you have 'fried' hair (as you pointed it out yourself lol) so if you have healthy hair no matter how long your hair is it won't stay . (:
She's right. I have very long hair. I do this when I haven't had a haircut in awhile and it works. after I get one it loosens and won't stay bc the ends are fresh again.
It doesn't have to be fried, just needs a bit of texture. Straight/flat hair can't hold these types of knots. You might be able to form a bun and run something like a pen through it, but even that might require a bit of texture.
Super fine straight hair said, "No, I don't think I will." I just don't have the density for it to hold together. However, any pencil or pen will do if I have nothing else. Somehow figured out how to put my hair up using a pencil when I was about 10 and I love using hair sticks, especially in the summer. I've done something similar to this, but use a hair fork, and even then it's a 50/50 shot whether or not it will hold.
Yeah, my hair is two feet long and its super fine and flat. When i tried it, it held until i shook my head a little. 😞 thought i found something that would work.
Thats so interesting. My hair is 3 feet long and the hairs are fine and sleek but I have a looooot it's very thick and my hair is too thick to do this. She must have a specific length (shorter than to her butt lol) and density to her hair to achieve this.
@@elizabethstanley6701 Yah, my hair tends to form more of a knob than a bun when I twist it up. Granted, it's always wanted to revert to its default state, so it takes either a tool like scrunchies or sticks, or an entire can of hair spray to get it to stay otherwise.
I can do this, usually higher up on my head, but for the life of me I can't do the pen or pencil trick. How do yall do it!? (I'm dead serious, not kidding, how do yall do it)
@@animelover69 I know a couple ways. The way I taught myself is to hold your hair like you're making a ponytail, put the stick underneath, wrap the hair around it once (or twice depending on how long), then twist the stick until tight and tuck the pointy end of the stick against your scalp. The second way is to twist your hair and wrap it into a bun, then insert the pointy end of one stick at the bottom side of the bun and go up diagonally until it's sticking out a little bit. Then flip the stick so the pointy end goes back under the bun and shove it the rest of the way in. If you like two sticks (and I do), just add the second for stability. I use longer sticks (9" or so), but some people use shorter ones. I also find it stays more tightly if done when your hair is wet. It doesn't really dry inside, but I live in a dry place and that hasn't been a problem for me.
When my hair was long I figured out how to do this and it was amazing!! After I cut my hair I tried to do it and it was too short haha maybe I can do it again soon when it grows out more

so cute!!
This is a great idea for when you’re at a fancy event and don’t have a scrunchie or elastic on your wrist bc it would mess w the outfit.
Thank you this helped me so much because I struggle with my hair before I wear my hijab And this helped me so much like it works❤
Omg i actually needed this so bad thank u 😁🫶
glad to share it! 🤎🤎
Hehehh pretty cute!!❤
Beautiful beautiful outfit!!!!
It doesn't work with curly thick hair either, i have so much hair and it's really long but it bulks up and can't do the full twist and tuck
Love that!
I do it with shoulder neck short hair! But I can only do a high bun in that case 🥲
This is the oldest hair style in India
Fr, I’ve knowen this my whole life
OMG no way! These people in the comments don’t know you’re Dutch?! I grew up watching you since I was like 8! (14 now)
Bro zo waar en ik wist niet dat zij in Amerika woont
same i watched her almost since the beginning. since i was 10 now i’m 18 it’s so weird.
haha sameeee
Omg gurllll alleen de og’s keken naar haar
Thanks a lot ❤
Thankyouuuuuu!!!!!!!✨✨
Holy shit the nostalgia hit me hard on this one! Definitely a big surprise to see you❤
This only works if you have 'fried' hair (as you pointed it out yourself lol) so if you have healthy hair no matter how long your hair is it won't stay . (:
Try a Nautilus Bun - related but a tad difference. Needs a bit more length but holds great
This just reads like a humble brag
She's right. I have very long hair. I do this when I haven't had a haircut in awhile and it works. after I get one it loosens and won't stay bc the ends are fresh again.
@@vstr4276My hairs too slippery. It falls out of a nautilus bun without a hair fork.
It doesn't have to be fried, just needs a bit of texture. Straight/flat hair can't hold these types of knots. You might be able to form a bun and run something like a pen through it, but even that might require a bit of texture.
This the first time something like this works on my hair! I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you!
I'm so glad!
It worked!
My natural nails are too long right now, but I do something similar. I’ll need to try it this way. Thanks!
Amazing!!!
i need to tryy it
When my hair was long I figured out how to do this and it was amazing!! After I cut my hair I tried to do it and it was too short haha maybe I can do it again soon when it grows out more
Granny thought me this when I was a kid. You can do it for top buns too. Stick a pencil/pen etc in it cuz it's a good pencil holder.
I do mine a bit different. But it's so handy cause don't have to worry about trying to find a hair tie or pin
Cool!
Ooh ill have to try this when my hair is longer! ❤ Thank you for sharing
I just copied what you did while watching the short and now we both have the same bun.(some strands broke tho😅) Thanks a lot sis!!💖💖
so cute! 🥰🤎
I have long hair that REFUSES to get into a comfortable bun so I always wear a ponytail (literally 12 hours a day every day, which is HORRIBLE for your roots but it became a bad habit) so I am gonna try this!
Thanks Djamila I watch ur videos ! And I subscribed!
I'm so bummed i found this now that i have short hair 😂 gotta remember this for later!
aww I hate when I find out about things too late 😅🤎
Thanks to you❤ I was finally able to make a proper bun. All these days I thought my hair was not suitable for this type of bun😂 but after trying by watching ur video I realised that I didn’t know how to make it😅 and it’s not my hair’s fault 😂
Omg you literaly changed my life tysm😭🫶🏼
I’m going to try to do this with my braided hair, because it looks so pretty❤ especially on you
❤❤
