I feel so mush joy whenever I see you have posted a new video. I designed magazines for over 35 years. I suffered a heart attack in 2019 and been trying to rediscover my art again. Hi I am very happy to hear that my videos are beneficial to you. I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from the after effects of a heart attack. Do you have normal agility in your hands? Have you tried painting with water color? It is less demanding and can be very satisfying. I hope you find a way that works for you, and then let it be...what it will be. Remember that maybe ambitions are good, but they can also destroy the joy of the process. Just paint ... the process is the important thing, not the result. Get well and good luck! For some reason, I have felt the need to do so and to learn technique, coloring, etc. Today I have made my first purchase of painting supplies and many of the colors you have mentioned are now on their way to me. If I can only get a taste of yours and your artist group's talent, I would be very happy. Your videos are filled with wonderful information for the beginner and it is very appreciated.

Thanks a lot for having us participate on the progress of your artwork - the effects after balancing the winter part are astonishing! Also interesting that you chose a 2:1 format to show the idea - to me it's a difficult and slightly 'uneasy' format that adds to the 'conceptualness' of it - as opposed to e.g. a format close to the 'golden ratio'. A bit like the square format, which is quite hard for naturalistic painting (with most natural subjects lending themselves more easily to horizontal or vertical dimensions), but a good choice for abstracts ;)
Thank you. It took me some time and consideration to come up with that solution, but then there was no doubt at least that it worked. Subsequently, I have considered whether a snow white or in different shades would have the same impact. I will have to see in an other painting. Regarding th format I had good results from earlier paintings. I look at is as sort of an "antique scroll". That is the TIME aspect. Thank you for watching.
Love your videos! I'm always so happy to see you've posted another.. For the 5th element, I'm going to say compression, because you can't have any any phsical elements on earth without compression. (Although I'm sure lots of people will disagree with me)
Thank you. Regarding compression: I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Compression...how can it be an element? I would really like to understand, so can you elaborate a bit? But thanks for the suggestion.
Your work is astonishing and very beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. Here is my humble suggestion for the fifth element: You could do a complimentary one to the painting in this video (which is incredible!). For example: Earth = to show the sapling growing Rain = to show its nourishment Fire = to show it burning Wind = to show its total destruction. Hence, the fifth element would complete destruction of the earth. Very literal I know, but you could have fun with the ‘fifth’ element. Also Could you post in advance when and where the exhibition takes place. Many thanks.

Insightful, informative and entertaining as always. I too am more comfortable using smaller/medium sized formats, but get a buzz of adrenalin when faced with filling a big canvas. Your paintings and videos are very inspiring, tusen takk!
Hi. Thank you. Yes! Small canvases inspire and you quickly get an overview. It works well for me and I agree with you...the big canvases are the ones that make your heart beat faster.
Thank you for your inspiration and also for making it all look so possible, with the right materials and the right attitude. (I also like hearing your soft Danish accent.) Space is for me the most important element, because even in a painting the images are found in space (foreground, background, etc) and it delineates them one from the other. 0:06 (or 6.20 pm Western Australia time element)
Genius idea, arrangement , color choices, beautiful! Your style is what I would call for myself a “perfectionist’s abstract”. Uplifting and philosophical. Also, I love large size paintings.
I paint in acrylics on stretched canvas and wood. I did a painting that I sold but it was around the 5 elements of life or nature including air, earth, water, wood, and fire I have also found 5 elements of spirituality which include earth, fire, water, air, and spirit. Thank you for your videos.
I was looking forward to your next video so I was delighted to see this tonight. It’s great to see your process and I’m inspired by your beautiful colour choices. It’s such a huge subject (colour) that I imagine we could all keep learning till the day we die! I’ll keep trying… Thanks for your generosity. 🙏
Love this video! I tried this with pastels and loved the results. I think I will try it with acrylics. Thank you for sharing this video. I learned alot. - Dave Barber, Lubbock Tx.
I’m so happy to have stumbled upon your channel. I did have a thought for your painting that would might have enhanced your 5th element & have given you more shapes to balance out the center out. What about using shadows to also indicate time. Beginning with Spring and shadows moving into the painting from left [where I live that would be East] then Summer & Fall, finally winter could have those long evening shadows that pull back into center of painting with lots of ways to play with your blues & purples below & warm orange tones within the branches. I am enjoying stealing your wisdom , I can get so caught up in creating the “vision” I lose my joy in painting & that’s WHY I paint.
I am so grateful that you are sharing your thoughts and style on video. I am enlightened and learned so much from your demos. I can’t thank you enough.
Thanks for sharing. I love 2:1 for landscapes just getting into square and liking 60x60cm Coming from a photography background my go to size is 16x20 inch. Really appreciate your posts. Thank you
Really love the progression photos you show. Another fantastic video and painting. I would be very satisfied if i had painted anything like your presentation here. Bravo old guy to old guy 😂 👏
Exquisite work once again. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the painting develop over the video. The work is very beautiful. Thank you for sharing the process. I would like to suggest Space as a fifth element? The other four elements relate to our Earth, and by extension, perhaps the Earth can be considered an element in our space called the Milky Way? Just a thought. Either way I will enjoy seeing what you come up with in the end. 😊
Thank you for you interesting input. Space is relevant ... my fellow contryman Andreas Mogensen just got back from the International Space Station 3-4 weeks ago. I believe that space is where we eventually need to go ... the 5th element ... thinking aotside the box so to say ... interesting. Greetings from Denmark
Thanks for this video - never seen anybody consider the question before! Its an important question for me. Haven’t done anything over 16x24 - proportions can be important for me sometimes.
I enjoyed watching and hearing your process. I was waiting for all the beautiful nuances of White for Winter. A completely White painting with all the different cool through to warm Whites would be wonderful for the Fifth Element of Temperature. I have just started using the 30 cm x 30 cm format and am enjoying it. In 2019 I went to Amsterdam and was enthralled by the Vermeer’s… they are so small, yet have so much going on in them. Thank you again for sharing your creativity. ❤
I think your process is so unique, thank you for sharing. The finished painting is stunning! How do you keep the acrylic paint in the little bowls from drying out? And once dry, do you have a good trick for getting the dried paint out of the little bowls? Love your videos!
Hi Vivian Thank you very much for your kind words. I use an atomizer to spray over the paint in the small glass bowls, which seal each other when you stack them on top of each other. And no matter how much I use the atomizer, the colors will dry out eventually ... after a week. I then "soak" the bowls in a bucket of water and let them rest for a day or two. After this, it is relatively easy to remove the dried lump of paint. Good luck.
Ether - I’ve heard the ether referred to as the fifth element. I love the thick gallery canvasses. I do better with larger canvasses and I like the challenge of different formats. Thank you for your contribution to others.
Beautiful ❤ thank you for the video. I have fallen in love with abstract. Could space be an eliment? As a beginner, I am still learning about format, so I don't have a favorite yet 😊
I finally see a tutorial than I can apply to my style! Thanks! I also like to do abstractions of things real o r imagined. And it's not easy to find the process on how to do it. I usually have the vision of the end result, but struggle on how to get there. The way you explain is very easy to follow. I'm watching all your videos. Your tips and tricks are great, not common and useful. Where do you get the glass containers!?!I sometimes I use ones for baking, but they are too big. Thanks!
Thank you very much for your kind comment. Nice that you can use my videos in your own process. It means a lot to me, so ... thank you. The small glass bowls are French and produced by ARC. I don't know if they are still produced, but fortunately there are many other options. I find my bowls in stores that sell equipment for kitchens and restaurants. I think they are bowls for salt, and nuts(?) They must be made of glass and round, so that you can stir them around with a small whisk.
@@skora-theoldguy oh wow you replied! 😃I was thinking you probably wouldn't reply, because you must be busy painting. Thanks for the info! You actually make me feel safer in terms of painting flat with sharp edges. It's usually referenced as bad thing to do. So thank you for that. ☺️
Really beautiful. Frankly, I learned a lot of things from your tutorials. Thank you so much I too trying to paint a similar one probably it may be hard. Please give me some advice
My best advice to you is to start, and not just go and think about how you want to paint. Get started. Then what you paint on the canvas will show you the way to move forward with your idea. ... and then persevere ... keep painting even when it's difficult, this is where you learn something. Good luck with the painting.
Thank you for another great video!!!!! 5th Element could be Spirit (spirituality). Can you please tell me the brand name of (and where to purchase) the little glass, stackable paint bowls that you use and do they keep the paint relatively fresh for the next session when they are stacked with paint in them? Thank you so very much - I have to pull myself away from watching another of your wonderful videos to go and paint. Susan
Hi Susan Thank you for Spirit. I go with Time however. Tha glass bowls are from French company called ARC. I found them in stores selling stuff for restaurants. There are many other options for glass bowls, so have a look before you buy. I don't know if ARC can still supply the small bowls.

Hi there! I will be visiting in Mid August this year. Would you have a lecture, workshop, or gallery show between August 19-26? I would love to visit. Thank you. Jenni!
The painting was better in the beginning - when it was looser. It really looked like leaves moving in the wind. and flashing in and out of the light. The world is loose.Colors change constantly and momentarily. It’s not wooden pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Thanks for the videos.
I paint small. If I use a larger canvas, I still paint small -- just have more room to fill with small things. Drives me crazy. I wish I could unlock my drawings and brushwork to be bold.
Hi. I started small with water colours. Then I needed a change to a bigger format. Then I made speed paintings on 70x100 cm paper using only 15 minutes x 4, to make 4 paintings. It was good for me. I "went big" so to speak in one afternoon, and have stayed there for many years now. So go for it ... if this is your wish! Nothing can go wrong here, if it works it works ... if not ... no harm done. Greetings from Denmark.
The painting and its colours are stunning!... very alive! I thought it was curious that at 16 minutes 31 seconds into video, I see an old man wearing a brimmed felt hat, and a three quarter length winter overcoat walking into the forest. (you see it just right of centre at bottom, before u cover it with blue). Did you paint him in deliberately and then paint over him?.... or did you unconsciously include him? ... perhaps you painted yourself ...?🙂
Ha .. no, I haven't seen him. But you are not the only one telling me this. I wish I've seen him, but I did not. Entering "the fall" of his life ... he was transformed into a tree ... maybe it's me? Ha! Thank you, and well spotted. Regards Henrik
Yes, maybe ... but not many paintings for me in that ... I mean plasma and...? We use the theme to find a starting point for new ideas, which will hopefully end up in motivs and finally paintings.
Question to the artist: is there a certain number of paints you limit yourself? Sometimes I use too many and it looks too much. Is there a “law” of minimum or max of colors for a balanced painting. Thank you in advance!
Hi. No ... at least I don't know of such a rule. That said, it is always good to narrow it down to a minimum. I try to limit the amount of different colours through the process. At start I use them all and as I go on, I take colours out. I often I end up with a handfull + white. Good luck.
@@skora-theoldguy thank you so much! my intuition tells me less is better. It is interesting that you use many and then take out some. I appreciate your reply👍

The painting was lovely at 6 or 7 minutes what you called a "sketchy expression." You should have quit then! Then you worked it to death and made it look hard - like children's' block toys. instead of like nature .And put in blue! Ugh!. The blue ruined it. You use battleship gray blues, which are flat and depressing and in no way resemble sky, except perhaps during a winter storm over the North Sea. Try to get away from your dependence on drab blues. It corrupts so many of your paintings. Your videos are great and very helpful however. It would be helpful if you would discuss the various mediums one can use such as to slow drying time, add gloss and other techniques. Also varnishes. Thanks for these.
Thank you for your comment. It's great that you provide such detailed and constructive criticism. I myself am quite happy with the slightly sketchy look the painting has in the middle of my process, and I have experimented without success to make it work for me in a final painting. As you may know, I continue to paint on the painting until I sell them. However, I myself am very satisfied with the painting as it looks right now. The blue color is in all my paintings. It is the color Indigo, which is my first choice. I'm sorry you find that it ruins the paintings. I painted the blue colors into the right side of the picture to create balance in the composition, and in my view I succeeded very well. I will continuously include how I use the different media in my upcoming videos, which I hope you will enjoy. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi. Thanks. Yes attitude means a lot. Good luck with your painting process.
Genius idea, arrangement , color choices, beautiful! Your style is what I would call for myself a “perfectionist’s abstract”. Uplifting and philosophical. Also, I love large size paintings.
Hi. Thank your for this nice comment. I am glad you like my videos. Wow.
Greetings from Denmark.
Thank you for explaining your process in detail. Love your work!
You are welcome. Thank you for watching.
I paint in acrylics on stretched canvas and wood. I did a painting that I sold but it was around the 5 elements of life or nature including air, earth, water, wood, and fire I have also found 5 elements of spirituality which include earth, fire, water, air, and spirit. Thank you for your videos.
You are welcome ... interesting comment.
Hi Chilli
You are so welcome. Glad my videos inspires you. Thank you for watching.
Love this video! I tried this with pastels and loved the results. I think I will try it with acrylics. Thank you for sharing this video. I learned alot. - Dave Barber, Lubbock Tx.
Hi Dave. Pastels are interesting and very usefull when experimenting with composition because it is fast and easy to use.
@@skora-theoldguy yes sir, i tried this painting with acrylics. it is fun
i sent a copy of my first try to your email.
Thank you for your tips ... shadows are interesting ... I will use thai an my future paintings.
I am so grateful that you are sharing your thoughts and style on video. I am enlightened and learned so much from your demos. I can’t thank you enough.
You are welcome.
Thanks for sharing. I love 2:1 for landscapes just getting into square and liking 60x60cm
Coming from a photography background my go to size is 16x20 inch.
Really appreciate your posts. Thank you
Lovely to hear. I am working on a 100x100 cm canvas right now, and this is a lovely format. Big and beautiful.
Thank you for your comment.
Thankyou for showing the step process, so interesting and a beautiful painting as a result!
Thank you.
Stunning and breaktaking, thank you for sharing your gift!
You are so welcome. Thank you for watching.
I enjoyed very much your video!
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this topic with us. I love watching you paint.
Thank you for watching.
Really love the progression photos you show. Another fantastic video and painting. I would be very satisfied if i had painted anything like your presentation here. Bravo old guy to old guy 😂 👏
Thank you old guy. You are too kind.
I love fashion design...been wanting to incorporate that into paintings. A bit scary.
👍
Thank you!❤

You are an Amazing artist!!!!
Thank you. You are too kind. Thanks for watching.
Amazing process developing this painting. Beautiful painting. Thank you for this video
Thank you for this nice comment.
Thanks for this video - never seen anybody consider the question before! Its an important question for me. Haven’t done anything over 16x24 - proportions can be important for me sometimes.
Hi. Why not try the bigger formats ... it's fun.
Thank you for your videos and sharing your thoughts and experience. I love your work and the colors ❤️❤️
Thank you. You're so kind🌹 Greetings from Denmark
I think your process is so unique, thank you for sharing. The finished painting is stunning! How do you keep the acrylic paint in the little bowls from drying out? And once dry, do you have a good trick for getting the dried paint out of the little bowls? Love your videos!
Hi Vivian
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Good luck.
Your videos are my favourite and love it when I see you have posted a new one
Thank you for this kind comment.
At last! Truthful advice
Ha, ha ... thank you.
I like square sizes too.
Yes ... many opportunities in that format.
Ether - I’ve heard the ether referred to as the fifth element. I love the thick gallery canvasses. I do better with larger canvasses and I like the challenge of different formats. Thank you for your contribution to others.
Thank you.
Ether? In what way. Can you explain better for an old man?
Thank you for showing the process. I love it.
You are welcome.

Beautiful and wonderful process…color matching with real color of leaves is really inspiring..thanks for sharing
Thank for your comment ... and thank you for watching.
Beautiful ❤ thank you for the video. I have fallen in love with abstract.
Could space be an eliment? As a beginner, I am still learning about format, so I don't have a favorite yet 😊
Hi
Thank you. I will look into space as an opportunity. Let's see what happens. Thank you for watching.
too perfect
Hi
Too perfect? ... no ... not even prefect. But thanks!
Thank you so much
You are welcome!
Beautiful! Thank you for showing and teaching us!
You are welcome.
You ARE a master, sir.
Thank you!
I think they are bowls for salt, and nuts(?)
They must be made of glass and round, so that you can stir them around with a small whisk.
@@skora-theoldguy Thank you so much for your great advice
Thank you for another great video!!!!! 5th Element could be Spirit (spirituality). Can you please tell me the brand name of (and where to purchase) the little glass, stackable paint bowls that you use and do they keep the paint relatively fresh for the next session when they are stacked with paint in them? Thank you so very much - I have to pull myself away from watching another of your wonderful videos to go and paint.
Susan
Hi Susan
Thank you for Spirit. I go with Time however.
Tha glass bowls are from French company called ARC. I found them in stores selling stuff for restaurants. There are many other options for glass bowls, so have a look before you buy. I don't know if ARC can still supply the small bowls.
love it
👍
Hi there! I will be visiting in Mid August this year. Would you have a lecture, workshop, or gallery show between August 19-26? I would love to visit. Thank you. Jenni!
I am looking forward to meeting you.
The painting was better in the beginning - when it was looser. It really looked like leaves moving in the wind. and flashing in and out of the light.
The world is loose.Colors change constantly and momentarily. It’s not wooden pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Thanks for the videos.
Hi, and thank you for your constructive comment. I will give this a thought.
80X80!
Hi. I do not understand what you mean.
This painting is 60x120 cm … so, why “80x80!”?
@@skora-theoldguy Ha!... Mysteries abound. he's a creature of the forest now 🙂
Fifth element is plasma
Holy Spirit 5th element?
Ha, ... thank you!
figure of old man is most apparent at 16 minutes 26 seconds into video
Ha .. no, I haven't seen him.
You are not the only one telling me this. I wish I've seen him, but I did not.

🏃 "Promosm"
??
