- Complete coverage of the Steinstossen Stone Throw, Event 4 from the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic in Columbus, Ohio (March 4, 2023). Inspired by a traditional strength challenge in Switzerland, this challenge gives each competitor three attempts to throw the eponymous heavy stone for distance.
Mitchell Hooper continues his consistent performance in this one, but a determined Mateusz Kieliszkowski also makes it a much tighter battle heading into the fifth and final event of the competition.

I love this event. Just pick a big rock up and throw it. Good oldschool strongman stuff.
I liked this event more than I thought I would!
Its always all about the kid. Un-pick upables.
This was cool! More historical events like this
Bro If Mateusz gets his static power up he has potential to win everything. Glad he's back
He has good static power, the only problem is his deadlift
Aye, considering he is JUST come back from multiple years away (what it feels like), and coming in and WINNING two events is just crazy.
I mean he used to be the lone young, new explosive guy, but now he does it again with Hooper and Trey in the field too.
Can't wait!
@@barath4545 He won three events, not two, right?
The log was disappointing from him considering his past prowess, but he's clearly still maintained strength in everything else. 1st comp in 17 months, 2nd place is great
He should be way better at deadlift not sure why its so far off the rest of his strengths.
I understand why some people are criticising this event for being boring but its such a good test of explosive power, athleticism and strength. Personally I love it
I agree. I loved this event.
Plus it's just fun classic strongman stuff. The kind of strength challenge that's been around since the stone age.
Why would it be boring? People just doesn't have any attention span these days...
I mean its really the same thing as watching a combination of shot put and long jump, both of which are olympic events, so it kind of just depends on what you like to watch
? I don’t understand at all why anyone would say this is boring.. this was an extremely exciting and entertaining event to watch and one of my new favorites. How could someone say picking up a stone and throwing it for distance is boring but yet not call just statically picking up a heavy stone boring? I would choose to watch this event over wheel of pain any day!

Thank you!
Thanks man. Guys like you are a gem
Love how primal it is, would’ve loved to have heard the pitch for this event.
This was a great event. A real test of strength and athleticism. It's also fun to see events that are new and the athletes can not fully prepare for them so that the winner is the strongest man not just the most experienced or most prepared.
I don't know, there is also an element of who can figure out the best technique in which case it's not a test of strength only.
Loved this, you very rarely see something like this in strongman contests.
Kieliszkowski showing his middle finger to someone after his last throw and smiling 🤣
do Martina Licisa pewnie, to kumple od takich uprzejmości hehe
No doubt to Licis and his videographer Romark! They're good friends.
@@Sebastian_Polak_Maly Haha, anyone else remember Mateusz and Martins were talking about some events few years ago and Mateusz said to Licis: *I'm fit, you fat* 😁
he shouted "you're my hero"
have a nice day. God bless y´all
And i thought a Shot-Putt was bloody heavy and these guys are throwing a huge boulder. Love it, subbed.
I think this event is badass.Pick up a heavy stone and throw it. Pavlo is a monster 💪🏽😎
I really, really like this event. Besides the fact that it's fun, it shows explosive power, balance and agility.
Loved this event! I didn't find it boring at all.
Brawo Mati 🤜👊🤛
It's absolutely mental how good Hooper is at basically everything. Nobody had heard his name before wsm 22 and now he is one of the top names.
This is the most ridiculous, juvenile strong man event I’ve seen in a while. God, I love it! It’s like being a kid again. Whose the strongest? Let’s make some I’ll-advised throws with this ginormous stone to find out.
"The English won't let us train with weapons. So, we train with stones."
"you'll move"
Really hope WSM pick this event up. So cool
Being a long time fan of strongman, at first i was skeptical, but when it got going I liked viewing this event. Explosive power is clutch!
Honestly I liked this event. 3 "light" movements helps the athletes recover while still throwing a stone that most people probably couldn't even get overhead
I think there should always be one unusual event at the Arnolds, like the year they did the trial by stone thing or even the max squat was a little different. It makes it exciting for us when we have no idea who’s going to do well and also shows the ability of the athletes to adapt to something they have never done
Had a Braveheart flashback. "Would you like to see him squash me like a worm?"
"Aye... I should've remembered the rocks."
Honestly think discus throw with one of those 45 lb Rogue plates would've been better.
It looks like something similar that they had in the early WSM competitions .
Like from the 80's.. 🤔
I hope you bring this back!
I like the idea of the event, but I can see why it's getting a mixed reception. It's impressive when you consider the weight of the stone, but the throws just look kind of weak because of that. Strongman needs a good balance of difficult and spectacular; Truck Pulls, the wheel of pain, circus barbell stuff, car yokes. This IS a good idea for an event, I just think the execution and the presentation need tweaks.
What would you propose?
My first take would be to make the stone lighter by 30-40lbs to increase range
@@quelandil5738 agreed. A lighter stone to get more dramatic throws would be better for viewership.
@@quelandil5738 - Lighter stone
- Fewer throws per athlete
@mikey and sky just imagine a strongman hurling a 120 lb stone at you crazy
This event was kind of cool. Going to be cool when the competitors figure out how to maximize distance.
Great Event
This Event is part of Traditional Swiss "Unspunnen" Festival together with "Schwingen" (Swiss Wrestling) I remember there was a Guy holding Records and winning many Festivals and his Body didnt look like a Strength Athlete at all but his Technique and Speed was incredible
His name?
Kielich Duma Narodu💪
Stone throw is a top show of strength and power
Rogue fitness is another great opportunity for people interested in competing gracefully🎯
I like how Rogue is just recreating classic action movies for these events.
Perfect video to use the 2x fast forward feature on RUclips
I'd like to see them throw a 145lb stone. 185 is a good show of strength but is still to heavy to actually throw.
I have a rock I lift that's the same relative size as this. It's fun watching them chuck it when I struggle to carry it around.
Brawo nasz rodak w tej konkrencji najlepszy super !!!
Hooper was definitely throwing it the fursthest, he just threw it 2 feet behind the sand pit. This was fun. Love different old school strong man events!! Get them out their comfort zone
That'll be why he finished 3rd. The marker is put down where the stone hits the sand, not where it eventually lands and Mateusz was 💯 the biggest thrower.
'To infinity and beyond' TM just buzzing :P
Whatever happened to the car lifts or car pulls? That’s what I miss.
♦️Tom Evans Stone left his hand at 28:10 his right foot touched the wood at 28:11 and he was disqualified!
♦️Mateusz Kieliszkowski left foot touched the wood at 30:47 then just after that in the same time frame the stone left his hand and all was great!
* * * * His foot touched first just before the stone left his hands....
♦️ W H Y is it ok for one but not the other ? ? ?
*** I put it in slow motion and ran it 5 or 6 times on each contestant with the same results every time!!
I really like this event. Shows different skill set. Maybe with some changes it can become an enjoyable event for all. I'm gonna check out how athletes feel about it.
আমি বাংলাদেশ থেকে দেখতেছি। শুভ কামনা রইলো সকল প্রতিযোগির জন্য 🇧🇩🇧🇩
12:58 What the?! Why's he look so different... went from boy to man
Finally, height doesn't matter as much as the athlete's power and ability to make use of his speed. The distance is proportional to the speed imparted to the stone, and to the square root of the height from which it is thrown. So, at equal initial speed, throwing from a height of 2 meters gives 5% more distance than throwing from a height of 1.8 meters(sorry, I can't think in feet and inches!).
Go boys cheering for you
Fun Fact, this sport comes from a war tactic when Swiss soldiers would ambush the enemy army from the top of a hill and throw trees and large rocks at them. A famous battle where this happened was Morgarten.
Yes this stone throw is cool event
great video!
If Mateusz doesn't get his deadlift competitive then Mitch Hooper is the future of strongman or Wide Pavlo, unless Thor comes back in 2024.
Mateusz is just a beast though.
42:54 by far the longest throw if he learned to get to the box and not throw 3 feet away from the box
I love this competition
Great video!
,🇵🇱POLISH POWER Win Second EVENT💥💪💪💪💪💪🔥
Awesome
Mateuz's technique was killer, fast run up and then pushing the rock at an angle, kicking back one leg so he can extend his body and push the rock for longer, giving it more speed and height, and just barely not falling over, saving himself by pushing off the rock
@Rogue love this event, but I think three throws each is a little bit much, how about 1 throw each and top 4 battle it out with another 2 throws?
Bjrs a tous chouette une nouvelle j adore cette emissions❤❤❤❤
Would of liked a direct overhead footage to really see the distance.
Shoutout to the people who have to carry these inhuman weights back after each and every try for the whole day long.
How come you managed to label it correctly in the youtube video title but messed it up in the overlay and have the casters mispronounce it. Stossen means pushing. Unspunnensteinstossen aka the pushing of the Unspunnen stone. It's not tossing the stone.
I say it's how far you throw it. The roll should also count.
I'd love to see Thor do this event. With his height, explosive athleticism and power he'd do well.
actually this is a big swiss tradition. We keep on using the same stone (83.5kg) since centuries
Sorry but no one is throwing 140-kg ..
@@ruckerbrady8342 you def. right mate. my bad. had to check. its 83.5kg
I think it would be more of a spectacle if the stone was 20-30% lighter so they could use the whole sandpit, not just the first half.
“They may not out live, but they will outlift us” is a crazy statement commentating
rewind and listen again he said,,they may not outlift us but they outlive us”
does what you said make sense for these types of men???@@ValentinG23
"That was just a triceps extension" lol
For me this was such an underwhelming event with pretty much no possibility for excitement or tension. And there was no excitement or tension. It just looked silly. But I absolutely love that Arnold’s tried it out. Definitely the right idea.
But hey, maybe other people loved it.
Someone in the crowd:“You’re my hero”
Him:gives them the finger 😂 48:05
Can you imagine if these guys entered PowerSlap?
It would be Fine.
Matteus seems like such a swell guy
awkward but very fun event to watch. hilarious to see some of the straight-arm-throwing-techniques :D
I wonder if you could spin and throw it, like a hammer movement.
You know...when its 0318 and you're critiquing stone throwing subtleties and technique...and you need to be at work by 0700...that's when you totally appreciate youtube.
This makes no sense. Why are the 5’7 men compete with the 6’0+? Huge advantage
Its just something to think about.
Those guys have some stones.
Pavlo in peak condition would have been right at the top pity he had injured knee.
This is the worst hospital I’ve visited. I was dealing with a hiatal hernia didn’t know that at the time I felt like I was having a heart attack during what I call we’re attacks I would go to this hospital and just got pushed aside no help at all!!
This was an interesting event and I enjoyed it. However I think other stone events are better for a competition and better to watch, such as Husafell Stone and Stone to Shoulder, which don't necessarily favor the tallest athletes like the Steintossen Stone Throwing certainly does.
Do think the run up helps i think a full squat and sort of basketball it two handed.
The guy who held it on his head 😹
They should have a camera overhead of the sandpit.. 🧠
I need to work out lol
oooh fun
imagine picking a fight with one of these guys. They just pick you up and toss you away like it's nothing.

Should be yoke carry to stone throw
Hooper had a cushion under his hat
Yeh Hindi hai-mujhe yeh wala competition kafi achha laga, aur manage karna bhi ise easy raha hoga, iski technique sochne se pata chali ki lifter bhagta hua aaye aur rukke, peechhe hoke phir is stone ko Puri takat se phenke, shayad yeh technique sabse behtar hogi.
Would have loved to have seen Thor do this event.
ممتاز جدا رائع
Barry said he did a study on this guy, and 10 years after competitions. Some guys could not lift their arms, above shoulder height. You have to know.
Bobby Thomson has no neck
hello ROGUE Team
wheres kilos and cms. I didnt knew this was only for us people.
The men's event videos are getting 10x the views 😂
Why do you care? Just want to laugh at women?

Maybe he cares because we're told women are oppressed and female athletes paid less because of "sexism", when they are, in fact, overpaid and receiving special treatment. But who knows, I'm just guessing.
@@staceygram5555 Okay, I don't know who is talking about that besides you. I don't see comments like that
Does the roll count. That was where we left off. She likes the toughness of a gun.
These guys could literally pick up the average guy and toss them 7-10ft. Ridiculous.
