Ok, I’m done meddling around the question . We all got guys like Kane , Rakim, Cube , Cool J , Nas , Shady, as best rappers alive right now…. But this guy been spitting raw hip hop from 87’ - 22’ . Not to mention back to back albums (2021-2022) . So in my own personal book, I have declared KRS-One as the best rapper alive . From his impact , to longevity, to technical skill, to the knowledge of the culture … to me that’s what makes you the best. Nd I believe , as the Teacha said , KRS is THE TOP ONE OF THE TOP 5 .
Edit : Maurice Sowers made a good point in the comments . 87’ is the just the debut of his solo shit . Obviously he was leading BDP prior , laying it down as always . Much love to you all you hip hop heads .

This is the tree that many of us were grown from. !983 changed my life, after hearing KRS-ONE on a test press. No one to compare to him. He has only gotten better as the years have passed. I was 12 or 13 when I first heard him, and I am almost 52 now. He is still beyond relevant and so consistent. This is what I miss about the Golden Age of Hip-Hop, Artists did not sound alike, nor was there a jaded sound. Fresh was the aim of all artists. Biting was not tolerated. You couldn't be lazy or cookie cutter on what you created. Lyrics were not profane, ignorant or illiterate.

I was listening to Fat Joe interviewing KRS 1 , and KRS 1said that he thought that Nas's album Illmatic was better than his Criminal Minds album but he couldn't think of anybody else. Busta called out KRS 1 for a versus, but the thing about versus is the collection of your music, which is silly because not every song is good. If it was a battle KRS 1 would eat Busta in my opinion.

1988! The year I heard Criminal Minded, It Takes A Nation of Millions (PE) and Follow The Leader (Eric B & Rakim). Before that, I honestly wasn't into hip hop. I was an angry kid in high school, wasn't into party music (Fat Boys) and I was pissed at the racist society America was. For the first time, I was hearing rap music that wasn't telling me to dance or shake my ass, but discussing the issues I was seeing in front me everyday.

The title track is one of my fave bangers, as it should be. The last track is the typical contemplative prayer Kris ends every album with. Beautiful. All in all, another fine contribution from The Blastmaster and fam. In "Drop Another Break" now.. helllzyesss.. percolating like my coffee on acid..
