Looking at this much yarn causes me anxiety, it's so overwhelming. When I feel like that with my stash, I go thru and if I don't love it AND have a plan, I donate it to the senior center , the library crochet group or some teen crocheters at church. It's a win win.
Hi Susan 😄That’s such a great way to detach!! I have been doing much better since I have the pattern testing plan in progress. I’ve used so much…. And given away the finished projects! 😄
Same! I have bought huge amounts of yarn that was on clearance over the past few years to just now start to work with it, and if I don’t love it, I’m gonna go donate the entire lot. Just had this happen with Yarn Bee Catalina. It’s the smaller version of Yarn Bee Glowing and I just don’t feel like I like how it works up. I have a HUGE lot of this yarn and many beautiful colors I’m gonna have to donate . It’s a bit of a relief to destash bc my hoard is overwhelming. I wish I knew this yarn more when I bought it but hope someone else can enjoy it.

Bless you Ginger! Well, I really do hope that this project is making you feel better about your yarn. I moved from my three bedroom house into a very small one bedroom apartment, so I really don’t have room for a very big stash. Having said that, I have to admit That while my stash is tiny, compared to yours, it is in dire need of organizing. I just keep putting it off. Because I am legally blind, and no longer drive I get most of my arm. I have doing this that I enjoy getting those boxes from Amazon, and other places filled with beautiful yarn. On the other hand, I can see that the space I have reserved for yarn filling up and an alarming rate. Not only that, but I have more whips and I am comfortable with. I actually bought a small Rey cart just to put the current whips in, so I would see them and hopefully work on them. I am almost 81 years old, and live independently, and mostly charity crocheting. I enjoy crocheting, or knitting, blankets, and for local charities. As my vision gets worse, almost daily, I find that I am working more with lighter color yarn than the darker ones, and it is frustrating sometimes to have trouble doing something that I have done thousands of times , a little harder than it used to be. Fortunately, muscle memory comes to the rescue, and that is a big help. Good luck to you in this huge project. You have set up fun. It won’t be long until your yarn is all organized, and that every it has found a home.❤
I get it. It's hard. I have too much yarn as well. I see a video of something I like and get the yarn to make it. I just work a lot and don't have time to make it. It's like I'm buying it for "someday." I also like to organize. I say I shouldn't buy anymore yarn and then I find a good sale or something new comes out. I realize some of my favorite yarn is going to be discontinued so I buy more. I keep it organized, but I don't have room for much else. I'm just not going to Joann's or Hobby Lobby anymore. I can't. I just have to spend my time actually crocheting.
I totally relate to the feelings and motivations behind collecting. I am also a big collector of things (especially yarn). I love making things for my niece and nephew, they are definitely the biggest help in working through my stash. If you have any grandkids who are the right age, I found a project that REALLY helped me was making play food sets! They are good because they use up so many different colours, but also don't feel overwhelming to tackle.
Hello my sweet Ginger! That’s just heaven , to have all that yarn on the floor and being able to fall safety on it and even take a nap on it , if you so desired 😂!!
I feel like I can tell you this.. The first time I came across your channel you were moving. You were moving because if losing everything. And as you continued to shop and look at more yarn I felt so sad for you. I was truely depressed over your situation for two days. You were on my mind for two days. I thought I wouldn't be able to watch your channel again. But, I am here to give it another try and will be hwre as you organize and make progress ❤
I love yarn. I love going to thrift stores and finding good deals on yarn. Crochet is therapy. Watching you organize while I crochet is like sitting with a "crochet therapist ". Consider yourself a "crochet therapist " not a hoarder. You and I could have worse addictions and we aren't hurting anyone. It's all good.
Consider one person helped! I will organize and "shop" from my collection. I love how you said 'slow down on the collecting of things and focus on the things I've been collecting.' Thank you for the reminder and helping me bring joy back to my collection❤
My daughter is my guru. Her best advice: “Just because I like something, it doesn’t mean I want or need it.” You may be trying to fill a hole in your life. I have tons of scrapbooking things hogging up what would be my yarn/crochet room. I acquired all that when my youngest left for college in 2013. It’s 11 years later & now I have more yarn & scrapbook supplies. I wish I was determined like you. It’ll be here until I cram it in a box & give most of it (scrapbook/planner supplies) I’m not motivated. I’m sure if I had an Adderal pill I could get it together. 😮😅🤣
Hi Joanie 😄 I’ve finally taken on that philosophy with getting new yarn…. 🤪 I have found that the more I find used for and organize what I already have, the smaller that hole that needs to be filled gets. And wait minute…. Adderal works like that? I might need some too!! 😂
Have you ever thought about barcoding the yarn and your shelves? That is how a library keep track of all those books, and what you have is basically a library of yarn.
Hi Ginger, I, too, am a yarn lover who buys or collects a lot of yarn. I not an organized person. So, I am so overwhelmed by my yarn stash. I try but often fail at not buying yarn. Because I love the possibilities of what it can become. Pray for me, Ginger. I love your organized yarn room.
God bless you. You're doing great with organizing your yarn. I congratulate you for search within you to see why you collect so much of the things you love. It takes courage and self love to look inside and recognize it After hearing that you mom have much more than you, you don't think maybe you're following that example? Is not a bad example because the two of you keep it organized for what i see (your mom new room is my dream room btw😂) Something that I do when something is getting to be too much I getvrid of it. Out of sight, out of mind. The wips. Take one at the time and finish it. Dont matter what else you're doing. Im pretty sure youll be finish with those in no time. Also, don't start another project until you're done with whatever you have on your hook. Maybe two projects at the time, no more than that. You're awesome, dont ever forget that. God bless you❤
Congratulations on the amazing progress!!! I love your mom's shelves. Seriously. I mostly have totes, boxes, and bags of yarn because my shelves are full of books and supplies for shirt printing, paper crafting, stamping, etc. I am a serial crafter and collector of potential. 💜
And everyone thought I had a LOT of yarn until I showed them a picture of your room!! Yarn is pretty; it's like you're an artist thinking of pictures you can paint! I love to do adult coloring, therefore I have hundreds of markers!! Same with embroidery. I could embroider around the world!! lol Six months ago I pulled myself up short and said, That's It!! Use what you have...I've given away lots, made lots of things for people (selling them too!). I'd love to see all the things you can do with what you have!! You'd never have to buy another skein of yarn!! You are to be commended on your attitude and progress.
I also love organizing. And colors. And yarn. Before I got into crochet, I was obsessed with puzzles and Karen puzzles. She would do these color/gradient puzzles, and sort out all the pieces and I loved doing that too. I was very happy when I discovered crochet because it has many components that I love. Especially the potential to create anything you can think of. I am enjoying your journey with your yarn. And thank you for sharing your mindset along the way. I also find that my hobbies line up with scenarios in my life and it teaches me my next lessons. Everyone, make sure to follow your inner joy and passions! ❤🎉
Some of my yarn I have, I bought when pregnant with my youngest child. That was 46 years ago😮 I keep them in clear plastic storage bags on shelves. I have thinned them out some? I will not be able to use it all before I die. None of my 3 daughters sew or do yarn work. So, I better get busy😅
Two years ago, I moved from six rooms and two bathrooms to three rooms one bath. I had probably 90% less yarn than you but still moved eight extra large space bags of yarn. I have eliminated all but four bins (one is mainly supplies). I am stumped with what to do with what I have left which is approximately ten balls!😊
I LOVE looking at your yarn Ginger!! ❤ I too have many MANY collections of things but they bring me joy as well! I understand why you have so much yarn💛 🧶 you got this!
I am your one person! I'm also a lover of yarn, and mostly collect fingering weight sock yarn. My favorite things to make are socks and scrappy blankets. I am going to take your advice and work through my stash rather than purchase more. We will see. Thank you for taking the time to put this video together!
So Ikea... I just bought one of their shelving systems that is a bunch of cubby holes. I also bought the matching doors. I sorted all my fabric/yarn stash into the cubbies and labeled the doors. We are talking floor to ceiling cubbies ya'all!!!! I can see my floor!!!!! I don't have to embrace my inner acrobat to get to my sewing machine haha!!! Love Ikea!!!!
I applaud that you’re working at getting it all neat. While I know you’re a pattern tester. If you were able to channel your projects into items you can sell or donate I think it would give your stash a wonderful multi purpose of giving you joy, helping others and eventually as it gets used it won’t be just piled, stacked and decaying. I think each skein deserves to be something special ❤ thank you for trying
I too like yarn. I ran out of space in the house for it so I am working on saving what I really love and conceivably use. Mostly, I am crocheting bulky and super bulky yarn into blankets for Project Linus. So I cleared out three kitchen garbage bags of worsted for my cousin who just started to crochet. She isn't working so she will appreciate some free yarn.
I really enjoyed this video. I very much enjoy watching you organize. I’d love to see you set challenges for yourself to use some of your epic yarn stash! You need more elbow room in there! I’d love for you to engage with your community in that way. Make it a community challenge like “how many skeins of yarn can we use in a month?” Set a goal for yourself and also for the community! Can we collectively use 1000 skeins? 10,000? How many WIPs can I finish in a month? I need that as a community challenge. I have too many that now I’m overwhelmed just looking at them!
Ginger it’s looking great! It’s really fun to see it all come together in organized yarn clutter. 😊 I have a whole room full as well. It makes me happy just looking at it with all the texture and color. And I know how you feel about selling it. But your new place reminds me so much of a cute little boutique with a fresh cup of coffee and an open door. People could come and enjoy your beautiful personality and you could sell your yarn so you can get all the new stuff coming in. it’s such a bright pretty area that I can just see a couple of chairs and some lessons and just visiting. Keep going you’re doing great
Ngl...all of that yarn gave me anxiety. I thought I had a fabric problem, until I saw this video. 😂 I have stopped buying fabric a long time ago, and now sew for (some) people, just to get rid of the fabric. Good luck with all of that yarn. Looks like you have the drive to get it all up on the shelves, and stored, so good for you! I agree with the poster who stated this is a "yarn library", and getting it coded would make your life a lot easier when looking for the "perfect" yarn for the next project. Looks like you're almost there and done organizing!
Ugh, I’m switching two rooms upstairs. Moving my yarn/craft room to the larger of the two. It’s taking forever, lol. You inspire me to get my butt in gear. 😊 Your Moms shelves are amazing! Goals! 😍
Wow!!! Amazing job! That is a lot of work. So inspiring. I love hearing your insights on the relationship and importance that your yarn has. I am right there with you. ❤
Hi Ginger! You are doing a great job! Your journey really resonates with me! Can’t wait to see where it takes you! Thank you for posting all you do! (Looking forward to Mama Kitty’s yarn remodel too! 🥰🥰
It looks so pretty and soothing when it’s all coordinated and stacked on shelves. Also, I have been procrastinating on my out of control yarn but I don’t have anywhere near as much as you have (I should clarify that I have maybe half what I used to before I lost a bunch in Texas, so that’s one reason why I have less), and if you can organize all of that, I can organize mine. It feels like it is a lot less overwhelming a prospect now.
I love love yarn. For a moment, I thought I was looking at my yarn rooms. It's a little messy, but we know where everything is. I am looking forward to seeing mom's stash 😊
I too am a collector of yarn, and happen to have a few open cubbie holes on my wall if anyone is feeling to overwhelmed..lol I love when Joann's and Hobby Lobby have sales, but Hobby Lobbys clearance sales ??? I did great this yr and only bought 4 skeins of yarn, but in all honesty, it was only because I missed the sale and that was all that was left. My yarn only gets disorganized when I grab an assortment trying to find which yarn I want to use for a certain project, this usually goes on til the basket I discard them in is full only then do I put them away.
Hey Ginger! So much work!!! I have been doing this over the last two years as well. I think I am getting somewhere and really I am not. I feel the same about my stash as you do about yours, LOVE everything I have ever bought and have plans. Now, I must start using what I love. I have been thinking that a lot lately, that I really just want to do these projects I have been planning. The only thing stopping me is ME. Thanks for this video, and all the others, you do help others all the time. Take care and forge on!!
my hubby can never complain about how much yarn I have after seeing this much yarn wow!!!! I am the type of person that never has WIPS I can't start a new project until I finish what I have on the go first lol Great job on the organization!!
I love yarn. I used to feel guilty about buying yarn. Not anymore, I buy yarn because I like the way it looks, smells, and feels. If I work hard and this is my one addiction I deserve to spend my money on what I like. I don’t spend beyond my needs and I buy 1-3 skeins,if there’s no room, I make room before I buy more, I also don’t invade someone else’s space. Just a few rules for myself. I’m happy with my system.
Omg you so need to make a short video of you collapsing in to the yarn & laying there until your arm reaches up lol ... I was listening to you talk about taking photos, collecting plants, etc I have been exactly the same! I have thought it was because I don't have kids & was trying to fill that void as everything I collect requires looking after mostly! But yes, I have felt like I'm drowning in some things as I've not organised it ... And yes, I love organising & I love looking at what I deem are pretty things - yarn! You are really helping me with going through your thought process, etc ❤ Susannah
Your videos help lots of us. Just sharing the love of yarn and all the beautiful yarns and what you love about it is awesome. I have a lot of the same yarns as you do, I notice. Also I notice ones I might like to have in the future. So fun!
Daughter like mom! I get it! You enjoy yarn! I love the colors. I can see the projects you are compiling in your mind. Simple truth you are very creative. Organizing is a task. I put small groups of things in organized matter, then it doesn’t seem overwhelming. I would put a curtain on the side of the desk as you come into the second room. Whips? Not sure what they are but you could frame your work. Show off your work in another room? Maybe. Love what you’ve done.
You inspire me. I need to dump my trashbags full of yarn to organize, also. But... Ive no place to dump them! I look in your yarn room and see... a cave full of TREASURES!! What a dreamy room! I screamed with laughter when you dived in! 😅😂
That is a LOT of yarn!!! And WIPs. I thought I was over the top. There is a lot of pretty stuff in your stash. One thing I do is if I teach someone how to knit, I give them a skein of yarn - their choice with some guidance. (not a fan of Homespun and will steer a newbie away from anything with all those nubbs on it) I understand the intentions, too. I'm trying to finish up some WIPs so I can have more empty needles to start new projects. Those pretty boxes are great for hiding a lot of messy stuff. I use one for my knitting needles. I know where they are (mostly).
Your moving right along organizing your yarn studio. I also have been working on getting my yarn organized. My dream is to have shelves like your Mom has! That’s so beautiful!
I love to have yarn available to make whatever i want. I've finally slowed down on orders, so im working on getting my stash down. I have all kinds of things i want to make. I've made a promise to myself to finish an old wip every couple of months. I've done really well this past year. But I love watching everyone do anything with their yarn!!! Your rooms look 200% better!!!
Not sure if this will be helpful clarifying if/when to purchase more in the future: you can log about how much yarn you go through in a typical week/ month etc, and if you are pretty consistent, you can figure how much you'd actually go through in your lifetime. Say you're really industrious and go through ten skeins in a typical month, that's 120 a year. If you live to be eighty and you're about 30 now 😉 you could expect you'd need a max of about 6000 skeins in your collection. If you've gone way over that number, you might want to donate some each time you purchase more. Just an idea, particularly for those who can't dedicate two full rooms to just yarn. Love watching your process, glad it's bringing you joy, you know better than anyone how much you really need.
My wife goes through about 50 skeins per month 😂😂😂😂 for her it's not the amount of yarn she has it's more the options available for her ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ She is the YarnGeek after all.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
the way you have worded the part about collections and comparing them to plants and photo albums has really helped me visualise why i find mine overwhelming! thank you for bringing me back to the present moment with this video, i really needed it. much love!
Hi Ginger, you have made a lot of progress. Just getting you and Me Geek moved from one residence to another plus your yarn to the studio is a major accomplishment. I love watching your videos. Not a hoarder, yarn is your business partner. Your Mom’s shelves are so Cool! 🧶🫂
I collect yarn too. I like to look at it and have options when i want to start a new project. I don’t have access to yarn stores, or at least Hobby Lobby and a small Joann is like a 2 hour drive one way. No local yarn store for hundreds of miles. Anyway, yarn brings me immense joy and it’s about the only thing i spend money on. Your mom’s shelves are awesome. 😊
Good God that's a lot of yarn!! Just looking at it gives me so much anxiety! It's called an addiction buying all this yarn etc. etc. Good Luck Ginger you're such a sweet person!!
I would have to say hoarder - yes. An intervention may be in order Or perhaps open your own store! LOL

I have found this really works!
OMG! I'm you! I have a bedroom with nothing but wall to wall yarn. It's my happy place! Even your comments are words I've used. Love you!
Looking at this much yarn causes me anxiety, it's so overwhelming. When I feel like that with my stash, I go thru and if I don't love it AND have a plan, I donate it to the senior center , the library crochet group or some teen crocheters at church. It's a win win.

Envy overload. You ladies must be rich . Those of us on a budget save to buy just 4 skeins. I don’t want to be jealous but I am soooo jealous.

You need some of those big ikea cubbies and “divide” the room with them- like a library with the rows of bookshelves.

I get it. I can't. I just have to spend my time actually crocheting.
i appreciate your narrative bcz i can apply that to so many areas of my life, i love your attitude
I started a shawl while watching you organize. Love your thoughts on Yarn collecting and really enjoyed the process.
Love the small room. Love the way the FOs are stored. One thing at a time. Great big change from last video.
Oh my goodness. It looks like yarn heaven. ❤
Material loss is always temporary. Our life is Spiritually blessed. No need to worry ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I keep hearing this. I've never been to the thrift store for yarn. I'm going to go look now for sure
Consider one person helped! I will organize and "shop" from my collection. I love how you said 'slow down on the collecting of things and focus on the things I've been collecting.' Thank you for the reminder and helping me bring joy back to my collection❤
I love everything yarn, your video was very entertaining.
That mosaic blanket is beautiful!
wow, you have done a lot.. looking good🧶🧶🧶
Wow ! You have your own yarn studio ! Awesome
My daughter is my guru.
Her best advice: “Just because I like something, it doesn’t mean I want or need it.”
You may be trying to fill a hole in your life.
I have tons of scrapbooking things hogging up what would be my yarn/crochet room.
I acquired all that when my youngest left for college in 2013.
It’s 11 years later & now I have more yarn & scrapbook supplies.
I wish I was determined like you. It’ll be here until I cram it in a box & give most of it (scrapbook/planner supplies)
I’m not motivated.
Hi Jana 😄 I think I would lose my mind if I tried that! 🤣 But great idea!
It takes courage and self love to look inside and recognize it
After hearing that you mom have much more than you, you don't think maybe you're following that example?
Fantastic progress of your yarn!
Ginger!!! you are not a HOARDER you are a COLLECTOR .. I am currently building my collection .. ehehhe love ya thank you for what you do !!
LOL exactly what I was going to say...a collector 😊
Some of my yarn I have, I bought when pregnant with my youngest child. That was 46 years ago😮 I keep them in clear plastic storage bags on shelves. I have thinned them out some? I will not be able to use it all before I die. None of my 3 daughters sew or do yarn work. So, I better get busy😅
What a great job. Love all your yarn.
I’ll be moving hopefully and getting a manufactured home that is going to have a Den of my own!! I can’t wait to have my own crafting place!!
Your yarn is beautiful! Your openness and honesty are admirable!
I love all the yarn you have. I was drooling the whole time seeing all the yarn you have. Yarn and crocheting is therapy for me.
You are doing an amazing awesome job Ginger. I really love your explanation of little wins and then challenges 🎉❤ thank you for sharing 😊
I would absolutely LOVE to have this much yarn!!!!
Keep going you’re doing great
your craft room looks like a yarn store. I also have problems buying yarns and unfinished projects. it is a yarn heaven.
You are doing a good job! Yes I think you do enjoy the organizing as much as collecting. Keep going!
Your Moms shelves are amazing! Goals! 😍
WOW! I appreciate you sharing your "organizing" journey with us. Mission 1 accomplished! So happy for you!
Great job I’m impressed. ❤
I can totally picture it Ginger!! Your yarn room is going to be GREAT!!!☺️🧶
I think that in all the people who crochet on RUclips that I saw, your definitely the person who has the most yarn
I love love yarn. For a moment, I thought I was looking at my yarn rooms. It's a little messy, but we know where everything is. I am looking forward to seeing mom's stash 😊
You are INCREDIBLE! The amount of progress you made was amazing. 🤗 excellent job! Thanks for this awe-inspiring video.
I too am a collector of yarn, and happen to have a few open cubbie holes on my wall if anyone is feeling to overwhelmed..lol
I love when Joann's and Hobby Lobby have sales, but Hobby Lobbys clearance sales ???
Wow enjoying your video ❤😊.
You are really helping me with going through your thought process, etc
❤ Susannah
Your videos help lots of us. Just sharing the love of yarn and all the beautiful yarns and what you love about it is awesome.
I have a lot of the same yarns as you do, I notice. Also I notice ones I might like to have in the future. So fun!
I absolutely love your yarn studio! I have a lot of yarn, I actually thrift a lot, but it's no where near what you have. I may have yarn envy.
Love your yarn stash ! I’d help you and I’d wade through all that yarnie goodness.
Thanks for sharing. I still need to organize my yarn better and my clothes as well. 😊
One human can never crochet all that yarn into projects. Good luck lovely lady!
Loving the yarn studio Ginger! And how exciting for your Mom to have those built-ins! I love yarn 🧶💜
Thank You for the inspiration! I have a plant and yarn collection that needs some love and organizing! A wonderful Summer project!
You are making progress.
Seeing your organization process is very helpful
Your room looks like a yarn store. It's beautiful I wish I had a room like this
Your moving right along organizing your yarn studio. I also have been working on getting my yarn organized. My dream is to have shelves like your Mom has! That’s so beautiful!
Moms yarn shelves are AMAZING!
Are you my twin?!? I love yarn, see potential projects in every skein I have, and totally relate to your yarn stash.
My wife goes through about 50 skeins per month 😂😂😂😂 for her it's not the amount of yarn she has it's more the options available for her ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ She is the YarnGeek after all.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
the way you have worded the part about collections and comparing them to plants and photo albums has really helped me visualise why i find mine overwhelming! thank you for bringing me back to the present moment with this video, i really needed it. much love!
Great job Ginger! I wouldn’t have believed that there were enough places to put the yarn in your office. You are good at organizing.
Why is this so me! I started with fabrics, vinyl and now yarns 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹Your yarn room is my next goal 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Hi Ginger, you have made a lot of progress. Just getting you and Me Geek moved from one residence to another plus your yarn to the studio is a major accomplishment. I love watching your videos. Not a hoarder, yarn is your business partner. Your Mom’s shelves are so Cool! 🧶🫂
I love it I don't have enough ,oney to buy 12 yarn to make a poncho I, on a a small budget so seeing you just give exme fun n laughter
