Oh Ginger! I LOVE both stashes!!! My yarn doesn't match like yours, I only buy 2 skeins of any color at a time. My mom left me: 1 green skein, 1 grey, 1 white, 2 blue and 2 hooks. It turned out that she was buying yarn as she needed it for my son't blanket but she passed away before she finished it. I finished it for her 12 years later 🤣 When I die, I don't have relatives that will want my yarn so I do 2 year yarn bans now but it doesn't work because when I'm in "buy time" I make up for lost shopping and buy more than I would have naturally bought had I not stopped shopping. It's the "too much gene" in me I guess 🥳I'll be posting a yarn organizing video soon if you care to see it. Have a wonderful everything to you and your mama and whoever is reading this 💛

Since Amazon Prime recently happened, I got to reorganize my room. This included my yarn. I had most of it on the guest bed separated by project so it was easier to put into the new containers. I have a tub of yarn that was unassigned, a bag of "I wouldn't miss it," and a bag of definitely go out into the circle.
Well, a friend of mine has recently returned stateside temporarily and wanted to buy yarn in heavier weights than are available where she's at. I let her go through the yarn circle bag first. She had a plan of what colors she wanted to buy. So, when I looked at my tub to confirm I had no assigned jobs for them, I realized I should let her look through it too. I mean, I confirmed I have enough projects for at least 5 years. It's not that I didn't want to work with them, only it was going to be a long time until I had the time to ponder what projects they could go towards. So since I had already spent the money and gotten some value out of them, I decided to squeeze a bit more enjoyment by saving my friend some money.
I had done the math a few months ago and I had around 147lbs of yarn. I did cave and buy a couple pound of love for baby blankets (my stash is mostly natural fibers) but I believe I have still lost a few pounds since then. Now, I have to put more effort into my WIPs. Having to rip out panels of fingering weight for a cardigan was a huge bummer.

I have a lot but not nearly as much as you two. I plan on going thru mine and getting rid of most acrylics and stuff I know I won’t be using. I love the smaller yarns and most of my stuff is pretty pricey. I think I’ve reached the point where I will not live long enough to use it all. But it is my joy!❤🧶

When I moved from six rooms, two bathrooms to three rooms, one bath, I only had about 1/1000th of skeins of yarn of what you and your mom have. I have given 99% of what I had away.

I just have a little bit. I have just come back to crochet so not very much yarn. I do Machine Embroidery so my yarn is spools of thread but I recently realized that I could do both.
Love your energy with helping your mom out. Between the two of you you guys can have your own yarn store 😅 so cool but I only have a cabinet full got rid of allot of my yarn because I got into making plushies but still make shawls, ponchos, hats scarf and stuff that I sell at craft shows.
My husband is so relieved that my stash is so small, compared to yours, lol! She probably has more than a store would, with all the yarn she has! Wow! I wish I had even a quarter of her stash, lol!

I loved sharing time with you & your mom. You know that I have a pretty decent size hoard. I'm slowly getting it organized into 3 categories: keep - could go away - & ready to dye. I did find that my largest amount of yarn is actually yarn that is waiting to be dyed. I'm pretty happy about that. There's still plenty that could/should go away because it's too bulky for me to work with comfortably. So I'm trying out weaving with it to see if that will work for me. Although, I did just get done with a bulky sweater made from granny squares out of Puzzle yarn. I can see myself doing that again. I would stop after 1-2 of the big squares each day and that worked out well. I'm wondering what to do with the 4 totes of thin fuzzy yarns. I put them to the back of the stack of totes for now.

@@theYarnGeek Glad that I may have been of some help. Within the 3 main categories, I've organized by yarn weight. The real yarn weight not necessarily what the ball band says. That way I know what can be easily used together. Also solids with solids, self striping, and other multi-colors together. I figured it didn't really matter what colors were together, it only mattered that the gauge was similar. At least that's what matters to me. Then I know what I have that will work together easily. Also since bulky + yarn and yarn that is too firmly spun is what causes me pain it was important to pull all that out into the "can go away" bins. That way I either work on it slowly, or give it away when family & friends ask. I do have a small stash of novelty yarns also and I've decided that they get to go into sweater yokes, lace panels in shawls, etc if they end up in the "keep" totes. I've decided to mix them in with regular texture yarns as an accent, because while I'm not a big fan of working with them, I also can't seem to resist a ball or two now & then, LOL 🙂 For example, I'm doing a test knit right now that is lots of stripes, so for one of the yoke stripes I used a beautiful silk ribbon yarn, and for the body stripes I used a rustic linen in beige with the main color being a creamy linen/cotton/tencel blend. It made the stripes subtle, but still there. I like it better than a loud stripe pattern allover.
My next sort is going to be plant or animal fibers that are a color that needs to be changed. That way I can spruce up my current stash by overdyeing the yarns that might be too busy, too boring, or that I just have too much of one color. Take care & lots of hugs. Talk to you soon. 😍

Crochet is my NEMESIS! As much as I love the look of it, I just can’t do it. I can make you a chain that can cross the country, but I can’t reverse it to go the other way. I’ve tried for years. Three of my Four daughters can make beautiful things though. I’ll keep to my paper crafts 😊
