    Great to watch this again and another enthralling performance by both teams. That said the tack bare away by Ineos (starting 19:20) was sublime; terrific comms, fast, clear decision making and excellent execution - there's the race right there IMHO.

    This is such a great opportunity for sailing to gain non sailing viewers and I think there should be more terms and rules explained for the non wafi. I mean, most people wouldn't even know what a starboard tack is never mind which vessel has the right of way and racing tactics. I just think more explanation would enhance the viewing for the average person. I know it's not easy with things happening so quickly at 45 knots but I don't think a bit of schooling would negatively affect the viewing for those that already know. There could also be segments in the full coverage to cover sailing terms and race tactics that would immerse a non sailor and IMO give the race viewing another level rather than just seeing boats zooming down the course

      Nice if we could have two audio channels - one with more explanation for non-sailors as you suggest and the other with on board audio from the 2 boats plus technical analysis atsome key points in the race.

      Completely agree, the boats and the quality of the races has made this the most appealing AC in my memory. I rarely watch every race whereas this season I have loved it. It's a great opportunity for them to grab a new audience, and the best way to do this is to inform the new audience of the new rules. It's a shame a lot of countries are in lockdown as this woulf be a great opportunity for sailing clubs to grab new members. Although an introductionary offer would help with this!

      Absolutely agree. It would be easy to make it more intelligible and more attractive - nevertheless, this these most watchable sailing race series I've every seen, so they're most of the way there . . .

    Some people are comenting about the frenetic audio. hey I felt the same in the beginning when it was at the start but as we got into the race the audio settled down and having both the comentry and audio from each boat was WONDERFUL. I suggest give it another chance in race 2

    The announcing is much improved, imo, as they give air time to the boat crews. In fairness, it must be kind of disheartening for the announcers to read a lot of negative comments, but it does add a lot to hear the crews on open air. They're the ones who have hands on. The boats don't have the sound modulation the box has, so boosting the boat-talk (the crew) makes it possible to hear them more easily. I have no trouble hearing the box with the modulated sound and perfect diction. So well done on upping the boost from the boat.

      I worked as an airline dispatcher. Open comms in your ear the whole time. Operations, check in, boarding, ramp staff all chopsing at the same time whilst Mrs Miggins is trying blame you for her plane being delayed. You get used to separating and filtering the noise and only pulling out what’s important for you at that time.

    If the leader traces the moves of the other boat they keep their lead without offering advantages from wind shifts . Luna Rosa won 4 races by doing this . They had a 250 lead and avoided tracing the opponent and quickly lost the lead. I understand that they have to keep it interesting but stratedgy can win this race every time if the boats are fairly even as these ones are . Its clear Luna Rosa stopped trying for a couple of races . They are the tacticians .

  • @00708046
    @00708046 3 года назад

    I feel that they are keeping the race close to maintain our interests.

      @@Crossdress5775I don't know, long passage racing ok, but round the bouys most racing boats I know do not change helm. Granted on these boats having to run around the back of the main sail is a pain. Having one helm for port and one for stbd with their different rules might be an advantage.

      somebody could also direct the announcers to not talk over all the onboard dialog. Nathan kept trying to turn everyone's attention that way during the christmas cup but the american just had to keep talking. The stern entry streams end up being the best way to learn what's happening on board at that point.
