Dornoch is my favorite course on Earth. Couple of fascinating unknowns...Fortrose & Rosemarie. And Lossiemouth. Great fun. For a great mix of holes go to Golspie just north of Dornoch and just south of Brora...another great course. Final unknown but great course...Prestwick St Nicholas. Not the original Prestwick, but just south of it. Amazing golf course that no one talks about. Easy to get on and very reasonable.
Dornoch....must play!! Castle Stuart incredible but expensive....then if you can get on Skibo ...right next door to Dornoch...beautiful little town to stay in We played Boat of Garten on the way back....20° in the Cairngorn Mountains...snow on the peaks....beautiful forest course scenery to die for and then a little steam train runs through it...amazing!!
@@mofobecks not if you are with Members...but I agree.....when we played Castle Stuart it had not long opened and I think it was £50 if you lived in Inverness £75 if you had a Scottish post code and £150 for everyone else....we had a mix of all and paid around £100 per person...but I think those prices are long gone....great course though
I played balcomie links crail in September it was absolutely class thoroughly enjoyed it..played the kittocks and the Torrance both good value..There’s a lot of these courses which aren’t in the big gang but when your looking at say £325 to play kingsbarns it becomes a bit out of reach for the average golfer sadly..I’ve heard downfields Dundee is a class parkland and The glen is class to..loved Brora fortrose and rosemarkie also..going up in may and will play traigh just cos the scenery looks amazing plus I’ve heard it’s a lovely 9 hole course
Come to the Highlands. Everyone knows about Dornoch but I would recommend Brora, just a bit further north. A beautiful and natural links course where the sheep and cattle roam. It would make a wonderful setting for a video.
@@yourgolftravel I'm considering Carnoustie, Troon, Dumbarnie, think that's good starting point, might just have to give YGT a call some time soon. Concentrating on England at the moment, playing Woburn Monday & Tuesday next week.
Royal Dornoch (my favourite - play it May, June when it looks the best!) Turnberry, Cruden Bay, Kingsbarns, The Old Course, Carnoustie, Muirfield, Royal Aberdeen, North Berwick Prestwick, Western Gailes, Gleneagles Kings & Queens, Castle Stuart, Nairn - I have not done a comparative rating but they are all wonderful. I am up to 215 now and there are so many enjoyable memorable courses like Crail, Kilspindie, Edzell, Shishkine (Blackwaterfoot), Elie, Southerness. On my 2023 bucket list are Royal Tarlair, Cullen and Fraserburgh. And which RUclipsr will be first to play Ardfin on Jura which looks sensational......but expensive. (crikey - I forgot the Mull of Kintyre courses - the two at Machrihanish and Dunaverty at Southend which I first played as a 13 year old and returned with a group about 15years ago.... a brilliant trio.) And ALL the St Andrews courses - just played the Strath weekly over the winter and its the perfect short winter round. The New, Eden, Jubilee, Castle - all good layouts. The Old is a course which grows on you after you have played it many times as it is so strategic and changible
Northwest is great ... Durness, Ullapool and Askernish ... as is Northeast, Cruden Bay, Murcar and Royal Aberdeen. Agree with earlier comments re Skibo and Brora.
The second shot to the Par 3 second (yes thats right, your second shot) is possibly the hardest shot you can find. If you hit the green in the summer and hold it I will buy you a pint! I remember playing Nairn in the scottish Amateur and getting pumped in the first round but still a fabulous links course.
Love your choices Rory. Played Royal Dornoch a few times now. Absolutely fabulous course. Brora is also worth a visit if you are in the area. Nairn Dunbar is a great course as well. Unfortunately I have not played Nairn Golf Club or Castle Stuart
Traigh Golf Club ............................. the most beautiful course I've ever played, bar none! Go to Fort William and turn left until you reach the coast.
I don't know if it's even possible to get on unless you "know someone" (or have a 8-10 figure net worth), but the few shots/videos I've seen of Ardfin on Jura look spectacular.
Good choices Ray, luckily I stay in Fife and I am spoilt for choice, I’m away to Inverness next month to play Castle Stuart, Nairn and hopefully Royal Dornoch if my contact comes good.
For a great stretch of great courses: Fraserburgh, Cruden Bay, Royal Aberdeen, Murcar and the Trump's course - all in one simple stretch. East Lothain: Dunbar, North Berwick, Muirfield and Gullane - all within a few miles of each other. Loch Lomand maybe the best inland course in Scotland. For a more affordable and less difficult, yet great stretch - Royal Deeside - Banchory, Aboyne, Ballater. Less known stretch and great drives in car. Royal Dornach is a bit away from Castle Stuart - on route you have Tain, Brora - both good courses and challenging. The stretch from Castle Stuart to Fraserburgh has some fantastic course and some really fun quirky ones, a real fun trip to do.
I'm off on an adventure from 2nd May playing Open competitions at; Cullen, Moray Old Course, Nairn, Fraserburgh, Murcar. Two days of casual golf at Hopeman & Forres then off to Inverness Culcabrook. You'd be hard pressed to match it anywhere in the world. The following week is Open comps again at Golspie, Fortrose, then back to fraserburgh before finishing at Tain. The shame is some of the dates have clashed and I can't do Royal Montrose.
Did a golf trip w 8 players and did play your three courses as well as Trump, Cruden Bay and Royal Aberdeen. We were suppose to play the Old Course but we’re to close to the Open that was there so they changed us to Trump. The only problem with playing these northern courses was weather. It was cold in mid June and we did get rain and wind. All and all it was a great trip and we stayed in Castles and ate very well. It’s $$$ but satisfying for a bucket list. PS the distilleries are GREAT.
Cruden Bay, Royal Aberdeen and my new favourite Trump International. Yes St Andrew’s is a must play but every hole at Trump International is stunning but sorry Trump International. One you haven’t mentioned or filmed at is Cruden Bay, you would love it Ray, superb links with stunning views and heart attack hill.
We played the European Club 20 Hole Par 77 course and really enjoyed it, plus popular courses Turnberry (Pre-Trump), Royal Troon, St Andrews (New and Old) and Carnoustie. Would have liked to play Prestwick especially having watched Tommy Honour. Carnoustie lived up to its nickname Carnastie as we finish round despite heavy rains & wind. Need to get back and play highland courses next time.
For excellent holiday courses in a very pretty area, Crail in Fife, which boasts the seventh oldest Golf Society in the world (founded 1786) has two courses, the Balcomie, which runs largely along the sea and is very full of character, shortish and tricky, is great fun while the newer course, Craighead, is imaginatively laid out and quite challenging, a day playing one then the other, with a nice lunch in between, is well worth while.
My bucket list tour booked for late April. Staying 8 days in St Andrews where we’ve booked New, Castle, and Jubilee and hope to get lucky on the ballot for Old. Not sure what other courses to play, but Elie, Crail and Lundin are on the list. Finishing off with a full day at Gleneagles playing PGA and King’s.
