BE agar detects group D strept not only enterococcus!

      Correct !
That's why group D streptococci - S . bovis - becomes differentiated from enterococcus species by growing them on 6.5 % NaCl medium ! Group D streptococci are SENSITIVE to 6.5 % NaCl medium , while enterococcus species are RESISTANT to !

@@abdelhalimyousef1041 I'd like to add that the enterococcus species as well as the vast majority of group D streptococci are GAMA HEMOLYTIC when grown on BLOOD AGAR , i.e : showing NO zones of hemolysis !
They grow on bile - esculin agar (BEA) because they're highly adapted to growing in the GIT where there is an abundance of bile salts !
Bile salts in (BEA) create a SELECTIVE MEDIUM for their growth , while esculin creates an INDICATOR MEDIUM for their growth !
