- Not too long ago, goalkeeper Matt Turner was the back-up for the New England Revolution. Now, he's making the case to be the starter for the US National Team in future World Cup qualifiers.
We talked with Matt, his coaches, and others on the hard work he put in on and off the field has paid off in his developement.

@@leonardorodriguez440 Steffen isn't that great at playing out of the back either though. And that is also not a reason to handy cap your team with a shot stopper who is out of form due to not playing and is frankly not as good.
he said he was a good baseball player.... his eye-to-hand coordination probably gives him that edge.
I see his basketball skills all the time when the ball is high in the air and he perfectly times the jump. Good hands too, he catches the ball instead of punching most of the time.
He should honestly be the US number one Goal Keeper. The way he carried the team to the final and always held his composure in big moments was really entertaining to watch.
Agreed, you can see an urgency and intensity that steffan hasn’t had his past couple of starts.
@@robdela3632 100%, Steffan feels too comfortable in his spot. That even if he makes a massive mistake the US is still going to make him number one. But with this tournament from Turner and him doing all little things right should challenge steffan for that number one spot. And I believe he will get that spot over Steffan.
Frankly, that is 100% true, Stefan is not above matt turner anymore. Turner just keeps on getting better and better.

@@robdela3632 Mainly because Steffen is rusty from sitting on the bench all year long where as Matt is sharp and in form due to actually playing week in and week out. Plus Matt's positioning and reactions are better.
He’s definitely going to the premiere league. He’s definitely getting the starting 11 on the national team

@Matthew McCarthy He didnt say he got unnerved or scared... He stated more so how he hates playing there. Sounds to me like he hates having a beer thrown at him. Last I checked, as loud as a PL game is... There are no beer tosses at a player. Turner is more than good enough to play in the PL. He will be there... Just a matter of when.
@Matthew McCarthy Thats not disrespect or a dig on Steffen or Turner. Thats because Ederson is there and he only averages a clean sheet every other match. He has below 1 GAA and has made all of 6 errors in his 147 appearances. So, yeah, of course Steffen cant get minutes. But, dont sit there and act like Steffen or Turner cant play in the PL. For instance... Krul for Norwich has already given up 8 goals in 2 appearances. ill bet my life on it that both Steffen and Turner would have done better with the same team. Turner would do better because he is known as a shot blocker. You heard the guy, Turner is the best in the world and hes worked with a lot of elite goalies. End of discussion.

It's only a matter of time until Matt is in a top five league in Europe. He is one of the best pure shot stoppers I've ever seen. As a goalkeeper myself, I love watching him play because of his positive attitude and fantastic talent.

Such a likable person and to see him persevere is definitely something for kids to look up to.

This man kept the Yanks in the tournament. Way to represent young man, as there are several before you who can rest better knowing there was at least one was the recipient of the world class goal keeper skills!!! Here is to many exceptional performances to come in the not-too-distant future!

I love Matt, been a revs fan since ‘96. Also a Former d1 goalie. Shot stopping ability some of the best I’ve ever seen. He absolutely needs to improve his ability to claim crosses. Every year I watch him he improves tremendously just needs to get better at high balls

Horvath and Steffen are always on the bench while Turner consistently starts. I get that it’s the MLS and Europe we’re talking about but it comes down to the form

@Yeet Yeet true hopefully he keeps it up. John brooks is solid but the other 2 positions are always suspect so we’ll see. Dest and yedlin are good too but inconsistent and not always great on defense hopefully we get the best out of them

Matt and Ethan Horvath have both made their claims against Zach Steffen this summer. Hopefully Berhalter has noticed, too.
Problem with Horvath is the same with Steffen, he doesn't play. Matt does and he is in form. That goes a LONG way especially for your shot stopper.

Love the three top US keepers - Horvath, Steffan, and maybe now Turner. Turner could overtake Steffan for #2 easy.
Steffan seems to only play in non league matches and might be Berhalters fav because they were at Crew together.
MLS is drooling at the chance to have players on the USMNT for WCQ and possibly the WC - this might be their boy.
Matt over Stefan, Stefan where stare at the ball as if it’s going out and then it goes in while Matt will jump for it no matter what. Just look at the previous games against Mexico when Stefan played.
