This just shows Mike Dirnt's versatility as a bass player. He's not just some lazy ex-guitar player who thinks he can play bass, he actually knows what he's doing and he makes sure every bassline he writes kicks ass.

tacokiss3 That could be argued with the bass player in Rancid though. Listen to the song Detroit by them and the song Maxwell Murder. Maxwell Murder has a bass solo, as well, which is pretty cool. You can't really judge who's the best though, because Mike Dirnt plays such simple bass lines in Green Day songs when Rancid's bassist does faster and more complex ones. But based on this video and some other interviews, Dirnt seems to be a really amazing bass player. Until they get into a room together and have a bass-off, there's really no judging on who's the best!

    • @glimpus
      @glimpus 10 лет назад +7

Lars from Rancid is a sick bassist, probably the best in punk. Maybe followed by Fat Mike. Skinny Mike (as in Dirnt) isn't as good as them, but he has his own style where he manages to make things funky from within the rhythmic confines of punk (fast) rock. His live bass line for Paper Lanterns is funky as hell and the whole song is based on (essentially) straight 16th notes.
As a drummer I appreciate that kind of thing.

In 1994 I bought my first bass after renting a couple. I was ten years old, bought it with the money I saved from delivering newspapers. I used to get home from school, go right to my room and play along with Dookie. This had a huge influence on my playing and Mike Dirnt will always be one of my biggest bass inspirations.

It’s true!! I have 3 of them, one of the Squiers and 2 of the Fenders and wildly the Squier was SO hot compared to the Fender ones. I A-B-C’d them all with each other and to even get a clear signal between the 3 on the recording I had to turn down my output volume to the interface

    bassists I enjoy listening to
overall:Geddy Lee- sheer musicianship and tone
Finger style:John Enthwistle-listen to any of his side stuff, plus all that classic Who
pick style: Mike Dirnt and Dustin Davidson (August Burns Red)
Mike Dirnt for groovy bass lines and helping accentuate Billie's playing
Dustin Davidson for being the anchor and undertone for modern metal mastery
Slap bass: Les Claypool and Flea
Les Claypool-Just listen to anything Primus

@leonoff89 because tre broke the G-3 (not the grabber but pickups aside its 100% the same) during the nimrod era. and so then they went out to get a replacement for it and he got a 60's p-bass, and then they became his favorite bass. before the signature model was designed he would mostly play old p-basses (usually 60's) that he changed the pickups in (to seymour duncan antiquity p bass pickups), and would put a badass II bridge on

  • @Jimmymillmo

Looking at the specs of this bass, both the Fender-Mexico and Squier versions, it surprises me that Fender isn't prominently advertising its best feature: The neck profile, and nut width, are essentially right between a thicker/wider Precision Bass and a thinner/narrower Jazz Bass.
I own a different bass with a similar kind of neck - and it feels perfect.

@SecretSpyAgent12 hes saying "cuttaways", which are contours in the body that make it more comfortable to play, because telebasses like the one i bought are "slabs" and have no contours, so, from the way he plays, the side of the bass would digging into his arm.
