November 25, 1967: Strawberry Alarm Clock goes to #1 on the Hot 100 with “Incense and Peppermints”, a song that features lead vocals by 16-year-old Greg Mumford, a friend of the band who was in the studio just to visit. SAC didn’t like how any of their regular vocalists sounded while trying to record this track, so they asked Mumford to give it a shot. The rest, as they say, is history!

A great job on stereo remix as this very cool and unique song's essence and persona are superbly enhanced. This song has one of the best fade endings of any 45 RPM singles I've ever owned or heard. The ending baseline and reverb harmonies are hypnotic. I remember when it was on the AM airwaves.

  • @pgh45rpms
    @pgh45rpms 5 лет назад +2

The likely reason that "Incense and Peppermints" was in monaural is that the song was recorded when the band was still called Thee Sixpence. It was recorded and initially released by All American Records, an LA independent label. When the band signed with Uni Records, a name change resulted to Strawberry Alarm Clock and "Incense and Peppermints" was available nationally by Uni Records and became a number #1 hit. The song was sung by 16 year old Greg Munford, who wasn't even a member of the band.

@@MusicMikeFlashbackFavorites I am a audiophile that hoped SACD and DVD Audio would become high fidelity, however the only way to make a high end pair of speakers sound open is going back to the analog sound where the reproduction was warm sounding and it had a real sound stage. Too many downloads sound so compressed and murky. Your videos sound so much better and worth saving.

Right after my girlfriend, Debbie was adopted by my family. My sister Eva, Debbie, and I were hanging out in front of our house. Our friend Patty Proctor, her sisters
.and some of Eva's closest friends were listening to some AWESOME music and dancing to it. One of Eva's friends Carol Lavigne was dancing, and she was really
good!! Carol & Patty saw Eva, me, and Debbie and called us over to hang out with them. Carol had her younger sister with her and she was just as good as Carol.
So Eva and introduced Debbie to everyone else and everyone was happy to meet Debbie. Everyone started dancing and Eva and I were just hanging out and having
fun with everyone else!! Someone decided to play this song and Eva and I looked at each other then we said to Debbie " Pay attention honey we are about to show you
how to ROCK"!!! Eva and I took each other's hand and I kissed her then we proceeded to show everyone who we were!!! Everyone started to scream and FREAK OUT
while Eva and I were handing out a dance lesson to everyone!!! We got done and Debbie started to cry and kissed Eva and me Carol and her sister came up to us and
kissed us as well!! Patty and her sisters just looked at us in SHOCK!!! and wanted us to teach them our moves!! Eva told her she would teach them at the same time
she would teach Debbie. We went inside our house and my mother said; I saw you guys dancing outside and you make me so proud"!!!! We all went in the living
room then my mother moved all the furniture then we got our copy of this song. My mother said to us " now teach Debbie how to dance like you"!!! We both took
Debbie by the hand and taught her how to dance to this song. Then My Sister Caroline down from upstairs and joined us as we replayed this song and ROCKED the
HOUSE!!!! Debbie went crazy and screamed in delight as she was dancing with us. when we were done my mother hugged and kissed Debbie and said to her that
she wanted Eva and Ime to teach her how to dance because we LOVE you so much!!! Debbie hugged and kissed us crying because she was learning how much we
wanted to show her our love for her!!

The reason why it is not in TRUE stereo is that the recording of this was originally released on a small indy label called All-American records. I'm guessing the label that recorded this and the b-side "Birdman Of Alcatrez" never mixed it into stereo and that the original multi-track master was either destroyed or erased to save costs. A lot of 60's hits which are not in stereo is for this reason (like "96 Tears" by ? and the Mysterians which is a good example.
