It wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything special for us. I do want to try a couple more of his games (Trajan, Bruges) to see what I am missing with his designs...
I'm so happy to see Strasbourg - it's one of my top 5 Feld's (but with the right number of players). Glad it got it's day in the sun for a short time!!
Feld week!!! Glad to see Rialto get some attention, it is very good. Forum Trajanum - I've played it twice and really like it, but I know not every game is for every person. Last month I went through all my games and set a bunch aside to sell, including 3 Feld games (AquaSphere, Oracle of Delphi, Jorvik). Your AquaSphere enthusiasm has convinced me to pull it out of my cull pile and try it again.
@Jeremy Frank it is one of Feld's heaviest titles, and can be very unrewarding. If you neglect getting enough crystals no matter how great your combo scoring is you will screw yourself and for many people those type of restrictions are annoying. It's a great game indeed, hope you play it more!
I own 12 Felds and Forum Trajanum is my favourite followed by Trajan. I would give it some more plays for sure. Cheers! From Canada fortsett med de flotte greiene!

@@BoardGamingRamblings nothing specific that I can think of. I am the buyer of all the games and the artwork and aesthetics haven't really called to me. I do want to try some of them, especially Castles of Burgundy.
oofff you stab me right in the heart! culling Forum Trajanum...that game is so good to me and I like the simplicity of turns, the restrictions with not being able to score for everything yet there are several options to get VPs :( I knew you didn't' like Merlin and didn't think you would like it with the expansions. I do agree that playing with Arthur expansion is a must, but it does make the game longer (and all the other expansions as well). The only way we play it is with a variant to shorten the game. Aquasphere is my wife's fav Feld perhaps. It's a great game that deserves more love.
This was a really fun video, even if you aren't getting rid of some of them. It was still a fun way to kind of see mini reviews of your thoughts on each game.
I love following along with this series, even though this week had very little interest for my taste in games. Thank you for watching, even though the games aren’t for you! There are so many games out there, so if Feld doesn’t interest you, play all the other amazing games :D We are lucky that there are so many games for everyone!
Is Merlin's real crime the length? I look at it as it being in the same class as Castles of Burgundy where you are trying to mitigate the randomness by doing things. I thought I wouldn't like Merlin and I really loved it...with Arthur expansion of course.
I am about to pull the trigger on the Merlin Big Box and then I hear your thoughts. Merlin has to be one of the most divisive Feld games. Rhado, Paul Grogan and Tom V like it. Yet you don’t even care for it with the expansion! Usually not a big deal to try a game, but $150 is a big gamble. Anybody else have Merlin thoughts one way or the other? Thx for the video!

I agree, it makes no sense 😂 That’s the thing about collections though, it’s stuff you own, and have, even though not all of it might be your favorite of that thing! Still very much enjoyed the video, even with no culls. Based on games I normally gravitate towards (i.e. Rebellion, Mage Knight, Kemet, Seasons) which are more conflict heavy games, I really like Castle's of Burgundy for some reason!!

I find it strange how everybody says castles of burgundy should only be played with two players. I just played it with my family at four players we got it done in about an hour and 10 minutes and everyone had a blast.
Nice video. I've played twelve Feld games. After the first two I tried (Trajan and Bora Bora) I thought he was my favorite designer, but none of the others since then have lived up to those two. I still happily own both of those. Bonfire comes closest after those to me wanting to own, but I think it's not quite there. Luna, CoB, Aquasphere, Macao, and Forum Trajanum are right in that space where they're good and I'm happy to play them but I'd also be fine never playing them again. Merlin, Amerigo, and ItYotD I thought were all on the weak side, at least something I disliked about each, and Bruges is by far my least favorite.
I am not looking forward to play Bruges 😱 I hope I like it more than I used to, but we’ll see! Also, sad you didn’t like Year of the Dragon, it’s one of my favorites!
@@BoardGamingRamblings To be fair there are very few tableau builders I like. As far as Year of the Dragon, it's been a while but I remember it feeling like it was missing something, I didn't love that it was almost entirely just reacting to the crises.
Maybe he is like me, and will inevitably own any Dennis Lohausen-illustrated game that is easily available :D. Merlin is probably my favorite not-very-great game. I see its problems but I still want to play it, because the action selection mechanism is fun. Lohausen couldn't save Aquasphere for me, however. But fortunately Bonfire exists, which is one of Feld's best designs ever and a beautiful Lohausen production all in one.
@rachel collins are you taking one for the team then? Merlin is not among my top Feld's but I still enjoy it. I only play it with a variant to shorten the gameplay. My partner dislikes the programming of the dice (knowing what order to go first-prioritizing moves), and more than anything she hates having to worry about scoring cards, as she always sees me scoring ;) nevertheless she always finds a way to win (and yet complain haha)
Merlin and Aquasphere (which are very similar) are the only Feld games that I really like. Both of them present you with a set of paths that you have to utilize to score points (in Merlin you get between 8 to more than 20 a round; I think in Aquasphere you get 8). For that, I absolutely disagree that Merlin is random. You have to play the game with a mindset that you are choosing the best path, not hoping to roll a certain number. Either way, I find these two far more interesting then any of his other games (Rialto is also good as far as shorter area majority games go).
Hmmm, I cannot agree on them being very similiar, but I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. And I will stand by me feeling Merlin is a tad too random for me. The biggest problem is that I just don’t feel like the choices are that exciting. Makes me sad, as I want to like it, but there are so many games to choose from, so I dont’ have to play the ones I don’t like (except when we are gonna review them😂) Thanks for sharing! Love comments like this, that makes me think! :)
Well put! In CoB i find myself waiting for the right number sometimes, and that doesn’t bother me. So I disagree with Johannes in that Merlin is too random. Next time I just hopes it flows better, which was my problem with it (but first time playing is longer for sure).
I lot of people who don't like Merlin are expecting it to play like CoB because it has dice, but it is a very different design. When you roll the dice, you now have a set number of paths to choose from. The least number is 7 (doubles in a 2 player game) up to quite a few if playing 4 players with Arthur (24 I did the math correctly). In Aquasphere, all players have the same 8 paths to choose from, but the concept is the same. There are a number of similar elements as well, such a menace to remove (octopods/traitors) and a related area majority scoring.
I have a problem with Trajan. I like the way to choose the action 👍 But the cards with ressources are an issue for me, if you have the luck to get always the same type of ressource you will win because you get a lot of points selling same goods, but if you pick different ressources you will loose spending to much time to get cards that do not get enough points when they are of different types.
Yeah, I can see the luck of the draw there, but it’s a lot less luck in other Feld games, hehe. Also, I don’t think you are «supposed» to do only that action, so going heavy for it will then be a «luck of the draw victory/defeat» I feel like. We have never had that problem in our games, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there, hehe :)
@@BoardGamingRamblings It is very interresting to read about Trajan (what he has done in his life), because the game actions become a lot more logic. 😉
This format still worked for me! Feld is my favorite designer and I play all of the games of his I own every February (felduary). Best month of the year :)
@@BoardGamingRamblings idk if that was a question for michelle or me, I didn't' back the city because I have Macao and Bruges (and I do much prefer the art for original game). I am intrigued for the new games though.
I did back them but not the deluxe because $$$. I have both originals but am always interested in a 2.0 design. Iteration usually makes a better product so here's hoping!
@@BoardGamingRamblings yes...but someday... just maybe you will come to realize the greatness that is Merlin. I mean.. look at those cute and colorful flags... the grail... I mean...
Just discovered your channel from the Carcassonne review - love it. Now I'm re-watching all the keep/cull. Sorry if it's already been asked - will you give the games away all at once? Like if there was a game from week 1 I like the sound of is that possible? Thanks! Amazing work!
Thank you! That’s so awesome that you enjoy the videos 😊 games from videos more than 2 weeks old are given away already, but feel welcome to submit future forms (we have a lot of games left, haha).
@@sunnivavarjord I've now binge watched all your cull or keep videos! Thank you for the info. I have a good chunk of unplayed games myself but may enter if there's a gem and I can put it to good use. Wanted to try La Granja! 😊 I look forward to more of your guys videos
Sorry about that Nik! We do add ads, and we hope it’s worth it to get to thr video! Most of the time they are skippable, but it happens some times that they are unskippable! I hope it wont be a big problem :/
@@BoardGamingRamblings oh ok, I thought you had been slowly increasing the adverts... Skippable ones are ok I think but the long ones are a bit annoying.
Absolutely understandable! We have not done anything different the last four-six months, so sorry if it’s more annoying now! Let me know of it gets worse! YT adds ads different for all viewers, so it’s hard to know!
Thanks again; but I do totally disagree when it comes to Castles of Burgunday that the best player count is 2. With 2 players the interaction is not at the same level as with 3 or 4. For example the startplayersposition is so more important than with 2, because than it is: you are the startplayer or the other one is.
Yeah, that part of the design is better with more players! One of the mechanisms I always like better with more is these player order ones! But still, I feel like CoB is perfect with two, as the flow is so good, and it takes a perfect amount of time for me, personally :D
Not a collector, but if I was it would be Feld games. I guess it's because his games always have an interesting and solid core mechanism. So even if I'm not a fan of that particular game, I can still appreciate the quality of the game, and how it fits in among the others. There is such an interesting progression. Like novels of a favourite author. In comparison, for example, I like Uwe Rosenberg's games, but they're very samey. So there, I just pick one or two favourites and then I'm good.
wow. Amerigo, Burgundy, Merlin, Bruges and Bora Bora are my top 5 Felds Loved Amerigo and Merlin, even though we're both Feld fans, its interesting how tastes vary. Meanwhiles I have culled Aquasphere. I also have Jorvik but will cull that one too. Jorvik is probably the most boring and frustrating Feld I've played. Not mentioned but also enjoyed: Carpe Diem, Oracle of Delphi, Trajan, Macao, Year of the Dragon
If you knew before hand that you will keep the game regardless, is there a point to play it for Keep or Cull? Why not use the time to play other games that you may actually cull? I know it is hard to cull. If it is easy, you wouldn't have had accumulated over 600 games. So, if you are serious about culling, it is better to lean toward culling games that you are not sure about. I have the same problem so may be I am just talking to myself.
Hey Keith :D This week was very special, and different from most weeks. When that is said, the point of this challenge is two fold for me! One is to get rid of loads of games, but the other is to get to play games we haven’t played in years and years. The challenge so far would be very different if we would not play games we knew we would keep, hehe! We have so many favorite games we haven’t played for years, because we play so many games for review ++ This challenge has so far gotten me to re-experience to many great games, and we’re gonna play them all 🤩 Thank you for watching! Hope you’ll continue to like the show for a long time to come (as we’re gonna be here for a while :P)
What?!?! No Stefan Feld marathon series?! I'm so mad, unsubbed!!!! ;) As much as I'd love to watch a Feld-a-thon if the cost involved doesn't at least equal the return it makes sense to cull the series.
If going forward with culling but without actually culling, that perhaps it's better to change the name as it's a bit misleading. Otherwise, dividing games into winners and losers still works, even if you don't get rid of the losers.
No no, absolutely not! As stated, this is only for Stefan Feld (and maybe one other designer...) not for everything! We still have loads and loads of games to give away 🥳
Haha, so sorry! I have never heard it said any other way! We could be better, but we do our best 🤩 Hope you can still watch the videos? Maybe better to watch them without sound and no subtitles, just to be sure 😄 On a serious note, thank you for noting these things, we can always be better at pronouncing things! :)

I am not looking forward to play Bruges 😱 I hope I like it more than I used to, but we’ll see! Also, sad you didn’t like Year of the Dragon, it’s one of my favorites!
Bora Bora is amazing!!
@@BoardGamingRamblings To be fair there are very few tableau builders I like. As far as Year of the Dragon, it's been a while but I remember it feeling like it was missing something, I didn't love that it was almost entirely just reacting to the crises.
Are you guys aware of the chillax board game get together in Pittsburgh with All Aboard Gamer at the end of October?
Thanks for the ammunition. My partner has a strange fascination with Merlin, and I'm gonna use this to convince him we don't need it! Aha
So many people like it, so maybe you’ll love it 😜
@rachel collins are you taking one for the team then? Merlin is not among my top Feld's but I still enjoy it. I only play it with a variant to shorten the gameplay. My partner dislikes the programming of the dice (knowing what order to go first-prioritizing moves), and more than anything she hates having to worry about scoring cards, as she always sees me scoring ;) nevertheless she always finds a way to win (and yet complain haha)
@@Nain1982 oh no! Don't tell me there's programming too! My LEAST FAVOURITE mechanic!! 😂😂
@@saintsalieri ha! If he buys it, I will for sure play with a positive attitude! But I'm skeptical!
Makes me sad, as I want to like it, but there are so many games to choose from, so I dont’ have to play the ones I don’t like (except when we are gonna review them😂)
Thanks for sharing!
I like the way to choose the action 👍
But the cards with ressources are an issue for me, if you have the luck to get always the same type of ressource you will win because you get a lot of points selling same goods, but if you pick different ressources you will loose spending to much time to get cards that do not get enough points when they are of different types.
Hah, that is cool to know! I’ll check it out! :)
I hear it is a punishable offense even to discuss culling CoB.
Haha, no doubt.
This format still worked for me! Feld is my favorite designer and I play all of the games of his I own every February (felduary). Best month of the year :)
@Michelle Compton are you excited about Kokopelli? cant' wait to try it.
@@Nain1982 I am! I have heard good things.
That is awesome! :D Did you back the city collection? I’m interested to see how he has changed up his own games!
You guys are bananas... I LOVE Merlin... so colorful... so fun. Oh well.. I still like you.
Glad to hear! Isn’t it awesome that we can like different games? :D
Welcome to the channel! So happy to hear that you are enjoying the videos :D
@@sunnivavarjord I've now binge watched all your cull or keep videos! Thank you for the info. I have a good chunk of unplayed games myself but may enter if there's a gem and I can put it to good use. Wanted to try La Granja! 😊 I look forward to more of your guys videos
I enjoyed even though no games were 'actually' culled. I did not enjoy, however, the 18(!) Second advert at the start with no option to skip!

You are awesome! Thank you for the helpful stats 😄 love them!
Again, you are awesome, and I really appreciate you doing this! 🤩
This episode has taught me I've never played a Feld game 😅
The world of board games is big! You’ll get your shopping list when we rank them all 😂
You have something to do then! So many good ones to choose from 🤩
Thanks again; but I do totally disagree when it comes to Castles of Burgunday that the best player count is 2.
In the intro, in the grid of 4x4 what game is in the last column on the right second from the top?
Took me a minute to figure it out 😂 it’s Stronghold.
We had to look both of us, but yeah, Sunniva has the answer!
@@sunnivavarjord Thank you, that was bugging me, what a huge board I had to know what it was.
This video is making me think I should check out any of the games made by Stefan Feld...
That’s awesome! I’m excited to rank them all, maybe that’ll be helpful 😊
You should :D He has some cool designs!
@@sunnivavarjord That would certainly make it easier to decide where to start!
In the intro you are playing a game with a stopwatch on the back of the cards. Anyone know what game this is?
The only clock I can find is on the back of the cards in Lost Cities! Is that the one you where thinking of? :)
@@BoardGamingRamblings Yes, that is it. Thank you.
Hear me out: You don't need to keep bad games.
Also: You have my address.
:]
Hahaha :D
Woot!!!!
Can you put the feld games that you would have kept in an order of preference?
We will do a ranking of all Feld games when we have played through them all :)
For a second there I thought I won something only to realize I'm not a patron. Maybe I should change that?
YES 🤩🤩
Is it an unspoken rule in our hobby that if you like Feld you must collect Feld?😁
Yes, I have actually spoken it as well, so everyone have to follow it 😅
I would collect Knizia games 😂 with that many games, I wouldn’t need any more.
@@sunnivavarjord true! But that's ALOT of abstracts😁. I started collecting all of feld's games and pfisters games... And I'm not 100% sure why😁.
wow. Amerigo, Burgundy, Merlin, Bruges and Bora Bora are my top 5 Felds
Loved Amerigo and Merlin, even though we're both Feld fans, its interesting how tastes vary.
I actually like Merlin. But I prefer it just with Arthur expansion and that’s it. Adding a lot of other things bloats it up.
Glad to hear! Not for me sadly, but happy that others are enjoying it of course 😁
Yay I won!
Woop woop 🥳
If you knew before hand that you will keep the game regardless, is there a point to play it for Keep or Cull? Why not use the time to play other games that you may actually cull? I know it is hard to cull. If it is easy, you wouldn't have had accumulated over 600 games. So, if you are serious about culling, it is better to lean toward culling games that you are not sure about. I have the same problem so may be I am just talking to myself.
Hey Keith :D
This week was very special, and different from most weeks.
When that is said, the point of this challenge is two fold for me! One is to get rid of loads of games, but the other is to get to play games we haven’t played in years and years.
The challenge so far would be very different if we would not play games we knew we would keep, hehe!
We have so many favorite games we haven’t played for years, because we play so many games for review ++
This challenge has so far gotten me to re-experience to many great games, and we’re gonna play them all 🤩
Thank you for watching! Hope you’ll continue to like the show for a long time to come (as we’re gonna be here for a while :P)
stefan feld !! weeeeeeeeee me like
Hope you enjoyed the video :D Thank you for watching!
What?!?! No Stefan Feld marathon series?! I'm so mad, unsubbed!!!!
;)
As much as I'd love to watch a Feld-a-thon if the cost involved doesn't at least equal the return it makes sense to cull the series.
Sorry about that, but glad you are still here 🤩
If going forward with culling but without actually culling, that perhaps it's better to change the name as it's a bit misleading. Otherwise, dividing games into winners and losers still works, even if you don't get rid of the losers.
No no, absolutely not! As stated, this is only for Stefan Feld (and maybe one other designer...) not for everything! We still have loads and loads of games to give away 🥳
I'm still italian. It's Amerìgo. I can't believe you don't pronounce right a name in a language you don't know. Shame on you Joana and Sunnydale
Haha, so sorry! I have never heard it said any other way! We could be better, but we do our best 🤩 Hope you can still watch the videos? Maybe better to watch them without sound and no subtitles, just to be sure 😄
On a serious note, thank you for noting these things, we can always be better at pronouncing things! :)
@@BoardGamingRamblings If you notice the way they wrote your names, I think you'll agree they were only joking. 😊
@@RadishTheFool i think they got it. Thanks anyway
That was my intention with my answer as well 🤩
