The walled town of Carcassonne in the southwest corner of France is a beautifully-preserved medieval village with a castle in the center and narrow, winding cobblestone lanes. The whole place is like a castle because it surrounded by 2 concentric fortified walls and within the walls we find the small village, a half-mile across with original buildings preserved from the 15th century. It's an amazing town to visit, one of the most magical medieval villages you've ever seen. You'll see how easy it is to walk around inside the village and get a nice feeling for the history; and there's enough there that you could easily spend a day or two days just wandering in looking at the shops and then taking a walk in the little back lanes.
In this episode we will take you inside the castle then walk around the wall with a local guide, and bring you on walks through the streets of the Old Town. We will be showing you this old fortified town on top of the hill; then later we show you more, including the modern town down below, in part 2.
proud of my town, thanks for this amazing video

I recognised your voice Dennis from the walk you did to York England and I decided to subscribe to your channel… Many thanks for this video it was so interesting
My wife and I were here in 1980 for our honeymoon, and missed the Church ,as you mentioned
Reminds me of Dubrovnik.
Nice job. Tnx
Is it correct to call this place "a village"? A castle and city walls make a place something opposite in meaning to a village - a city. In French they call it "ville", but it's not what "village" in English means.
Thank you for your question. Yes, Carcassonne is a village, so much more than a castle with wall. Within the wall it contains homes, shops, several hotels, many restaurants, various streets, a major church, the castle, and many people out walking around. The size is 1/2 kilometer from north to south. You can see all these things in my playlist with 6 videos on this magical place: bit.ly/2MQ5LwG
You keep referring to this place as a village? It's a city! But this is a place I really want to visit!

Dennis, how did you go about arranging the tour in English?
+Debbie Leh To arrange the guide I went to the Tourist Information Office in the "bastide" the new town down below and asked them. You might also ask your hotel before you get there.
