Roy was seriously underrated. Another great reaction
His genre was mostly country, but the man was a virtuoso on anything with a string.
He could also sing and was very funny too.
Just an all around great performer and great man.
I loved Roy Clark. His talent for music and comedy was incredible!
If you guys delve in to Roy Clark, you'll find out that it wasn't completely underrated at all. Because in many greatest guitarist list, he is in the top 10, which does surprise a lot of peopbecause of all the great rock legends. Now, having said that, I want to join the crowd and say without a doubt, he is one of the greatest guitarists ever. And that includes all the well-known great rock guitarist.
Hell he did classical better then most who just do that. Sadly he is gone and we will never hear him play live again.
He was 85 yr and 5mo to the day when he past. Look around and I think u will find some where he is in his 80's and his hands are still just as fast if not faster. In this vid he had to be in his mid 40's for this was a 70's 80's thing. I did not see it b/c I stop watching TV but for Yankee and Bear games in '75. So all those shi=y shows I have never seen and never will. If I want o watch something that was on TV i do it online sans adds.

Ditto! Well said.
You can tell the Moment The Television program went from being a TV program to Roy's Performance. Then back to the TV Show. The respect the actors showed him unmatched. Roy was Not only Proficient on the Guitar. Roy was A Master on guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin and harmonica. He could shred, finger pick and play in many styles: rock, country, flamenco, classical, jazz. He could play banjo with the best. Although one would never suspect it..He never learned to Read music. A Great man. RIP Roy
Most country guitarists are highly underrated. Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, Glen Campbell, Jim Stafford, Chet Atkins, Brad Paisley, and Keith Urban are (or were) some of the best players ever. Charo is a female guitarist with a huge following overseas, but she’s known in America as an actress and comedian, known as the “Hootchie Cootchie” girl. She also has a version of Malagueña that will blow your socks off.
Thank you for mentioning Charo.
Don’t forget Junior Brown
The applause in the middle and the reaction by Jack Klugman and Tony Randall is genuine. Tony and Roy were both residents of Tulsa Oklahoma and there is an elementary school named after Roy there.
Roy Clark was one of those individuals that you give him an instrument with strings and he can play it extremely well. I believe many guitarist like Eddie Van Halen thought he was the best.
He was a great showman between the music and his humor.
I read somewhere that all week Roy played something different at every rehearsal, and that he hit them with this out of the blue during the actual taping.
The reactions are so real because they were seeing and hearing this for the first time, just like the audience.
And supposedly, either Tony or Jack even said something like "You got us." or "You did it again." or words to that effect.
@@SaverioP Wouldn't be surprised. Sounds like the kind of fun trick Roy would play.
Also, Roy is a member of the Banjo Hall of Fame, which most folks don't know is located in Oklahoma City.
When most people say "greatest guitarist" they are talking about electric guitar players. Roy Clark is in a different class, acoustic guitar players.
You have a lot to learn about this man!!!!!!!!
Roy Clark did a great Dueling Banjos performace too. Absolutely phenomenal performance here iwth Malaguena.
Arguably, Roy Clark was one of the best guitarists ever... anything with strings, he mastered. Glen Campbell is another, and well worth checking out.
Roy is one of the best guitarist .. Along with his friend Glen Campbell another great guitarist
Roy Clark was a wonderful person as well.
Roy was also a TV host, actor and a champion winning Banjo player as well as the fiddle (violin). He had very fast strumming hand and his fingering on all instruments is immaculate. He was also very funny and often added comedy into his playing.
Y’all need to watch a couple episodes of “Hee Haw”!!
That would be fun
I think it's absolutely incredible. Roy Clark was on a TV show called Hee-Haw. Watched it weekly with my grandparents. They simply loved to listen to Roy play, and I must admit I enjoyed it myself.
The Odd Couple was a comedy show that premiered in September 1970 and ran for 5 years. It was based on the 1968 film. The TV show starred Jack Klugman as Oscar "the slob" and Tony Randall as Felix "the neat freak". It was filmed in front of a live audience. I love how Roy's incredible playing made them break character and just watch him in awe.
Roy Clark played multiple instruments. He was a legendary country music star but played a wide variety of music. Along with Buck Owens he hosted the Country comedy variety show Hee Haw from 1969 to 1997.
Roy was the best. His sense of humor was wonderful. Hee haw was where he was seen the most. I live in NW Washington State and saw him at the fair shortly before he quit touring. Epic concert. Please do more!
Roy Clark is a GOAT!
I love watching your reactions. Reacting on what I grew up on. I feel like I was born during the greatest time for pop, rock and country music. I love seeing the younger generation watching the best of the best of a bye gone era. Roy Clark was extremely talented on guitar, but he could sing, act and was funny in a country style humor. Good reaction video, thanks.
Coming from the same generation as you, agreed that it is an absolute hoot to watch these two react to the music and culture of our youth.
Roy was the best guitarist there's ever been. As far as accuracy and ability. Nobody has ever been better.
My most Fav song by him is, "Yesterday when I was young"
You should check out the version of this covered by GiGi DeLana. It's beautiful.
Roy was a self taught multi-instrumentalist. He could play anything with strings on it. My dad saw him live in Las Vegas back in the '80s.
He said Roy's only real competition was Gatemouth Brown, whom he was performing with at the show.
Roy Clark and Glenn Campbell are always left out when greatest guitarists are mentioned.
When Roy Clark was asked by Walter Cronkite about how he felt being the world's greatest guitarist, "RC Cola" said: "Wally, I feel like sugar and butter meltin' down into a hot bowl o' grits!"
When the actors forget to keep acting because they're so impressed. 😂
Roy Clark could play anything with strings. He's best known for banjo, guitar and fiddle playing though. He was the host on a comedy/variety show called Hee Haw as well. There's a video where he plays all 3 instruments one after the other as they're handed to him.
He can play Malagueña on a 12 string electric guitar as well. For singing I recommend his song Yesterday When I Was Young.
Jimi Hendrix was once asked what it was like being the world's greatest guitar player. He replied, “I don't know, go ask Roy Clark”.
He should always, always be in the discussion of greatest guitarist ever
He was known as this incredible guitarist but also had a natural comedic side to himself. He along with Buck Owens were two stars of the country comedy show Hee Haw. He could sing and had a few hits. In the early 70’s he was the highest paid country performer in the US making $7 million a year ( almost 55 million dollars a year in today’s money!!!)
Roy Clark was phenomenal!!! used to watch him every week on hee haw!
" Yesterday when I was Young" by Roy Clark.
That was great! I remember watching this on "The Odd Couple" show. Roy Clark was a great entertainer, humble man & super talented. He was both a singer & musician. His guitar, banjo & fiddle playing are legendary. A lot of musicians & artists today could learn a lot from his style & technique.
I believe that it was at the 3:12 minute mark (the second time that you paused) that Roy also tucked the pick into the palm and did those finger licks/drumming sounds for a few bars then shifted the pick back to his thumb/index finger, and NEVER missed a beat! WOW!
Roy was one of the greatest players of all times in what ever style he choose to play
Enjoyed both the ‘Odd Couple’ and ‘Hee Haw’ growing up. Roy Clark was amazing.
By the way he IS using a pick.... but when he moves to finger style, he tucks it in the palm of his hand.... he goes back and forth like a magician with the pick.
A long time favorite Roy Clark song is Yesterday When I Was Young. The lyrics are deep.and thought-provoking.
Roy Clark and Glen Campbell are two of the greatest guitarists ever who are never discussed because they are country. Now try Glen Campbell "The William Tell Overture"
Roy Clark was the co-host of Hee-Haw.
My parents watched it every Saturday night
A buddy of mine had a small-town country music radio show and had Roy scheduled for a live interview. Roy died a few days before the interview was to happen. He almost got to have Roy Clark's final interview. Now I tease him that Roy decided he'd rather die than talk to him!
Roy Clark was a legend that could play anything with strings and few without! His main career was in country music. Give Yesterday When I Was Young a listen.
I'm sure some others told you Roy Clark was on a show called Hee Haw The Odd Couple is a comedy which would never be shown or allowed on TV today
Why not it was a great TV show it was not controversial.
A true master of his craft 🇺🇸
He also played the fiddle, mandion, Guitar, banjo, just about anything with strings. He was on a show here in the U.S. called Hee Haw. Loved musician world wide. Glad you enjoyed his playing.
On of the best ever
Fiddle, Banjo, guitar (acoustic and electric) He is tops. Did a duet with Johnny Cash of Folsom Prison Blues, the 12th street rag is great. For a humorous song there is Thank God and Greyhound. His is one of the greatest performance guitar players period. Anything Roy Clark will be great.
Roy Clark was an incredible guitarist!
Great Reaction Sam and Phil
I got to watch Roy Clark and Country Legend Lynn Anderson perform at our family day back in the late 80’s in Austin I work at a computer company! Got a bit of both worlds! But I enjoyed Roy Clark and Buck Owen’s on Hee Haw with the
Ladies that were on the show which some of them were former Playmates!
Her Haw was very entertaining! 🎸🤘🙏🏻
Roy also does a version of "Malaguena" on an electrical guitar.
Now look for Glen Campbell playing "The William Tell Overture", either on a 6 string or 12 string guitar.
👍👍
I love roy clarker. He's a great country western singer. He played on his car if you ever watched that series back in the day.
Roy was awesome! Love his sideburns too!
Yes you guys need to check out Glen Campbell plays the William Tell Overture (acoustic). There is an electric one but I think the acoustic is a little more impressive. The Odd Couple was a tv show that was first a play and then a movie and then the tv show. The movie is great mainly because it stars Jack Lemon and Walter Matthieu.
Great reactions! Here's a Roy Clark tune from 1964. The man is definitely Top Tier! Enjoy: Roy Clark - 12th Street Rag. Have a great day!
he's goat for sure.
thanks for the reaction.
HEE HAA !!!!
🐴🐎🏇🐴
I haven't watched the video yet, except for the two minute intro, and I'm all a-tingle in anticipation of the two of you having your minds completely blown! What a fun way to start my afternoon! Coming at you from the west coast of Canada. Go Roy!
roy clark "yesterday when i was young" is a must see
Roy Clark is arguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, guitar player of all time. On top of that his skill is reflected by the numerous other string instruments he played. Yes, he "played" the country bumpkin as a part of his act, but it was an act. His music will amaze you.
Him and Glen Campbell were two of the very best guitar players in the buiness.
Great guitar player, singer, and very humorous.
Was on weekly show that was big in the US in 60's and 70's called Hee Haw❤
Grew up listening to him and other greats.
Recently watched a reaction to this and the guy slow motion, what appears to be two strokes is actually four. He's a Beast on anything with strings.
50s, 60s and 70s. Roy was somewhere on TV. Always impressive. Funny guy as well. He was made for TV.
Roy Clark was an amazing guitarist, as well as banjo and other string instruments. he had taught his technique among famous musicians
He was in the Nashville scene when I was a kid. On a show called "Hee Haw" in those days! Met him a couple of times when I worked at the Opry and Opryland theme park.
This man could pretty much play anything with strings. Check out his 'Dueling Banjos" with Buck Trent.
I remember watching this episode with my parents 😂 Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
Many reactors have reacted to Roy doing a Comedy version of "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash. A number of reactors have reacted to Roy doing "Twelfth Street Rag" where Roy shows amazing speed and comedy. Roy's hit song on the Billboard charts was actually a wonderful sad vocal performance, called "Yesterday, When I Was Young" which is also on many reactor's playlist, as well as Roy and Glen Campbell performing "Ghost Riders in the Sky" as a guitar duet with orchestra.
Great suggestions.
I do believe he is using a pick in the performance, cupping it when he does the string pulling. Either way he is a legend. He can play anything with strings. Look for a video of Roy and a kid doing Orange Blossom Special on banjo and fiddle, or him doing dueling banjos. He was on the contry variety show Hee Haw for years in the 70s. Notoriously nice guy as well, or that is what they say.
Roy had relatives near Massillon Ohio , my hometown, and he would visit fairly often low key. Although I never had a chance to see or meet him, everyone who did said he was extremely nice and down to earth.
In his younger days he actually was a shredder on the electric guitar .
Member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, hosted a country music variety show called Hee Haw for about 20 years, and if it had strings Roy Clark could play it. Great reaction and check out him and Buck Trent doing Dueling Banjos, or his version of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues.
Roy could play anything with strings. Guitar, Banjo and Fiddle that I know of and he was great on all of them.
I saw him in Branson MO at his club, and he played this on an Ovation 12 string. I pretty much gave up trying to play this on a 6 string. The string God.
Roy Clark was a regular on a show called "HEE HAW". In my opinion, he was one of the best guitar players ever. He could play a pretty mean banjo as well.
Overshadowed by his comedy and showmanship, Roy was a monster musician until the end of his life. Check out "12th street rag". He was fantastic in everything he did. Awesome in blues and pop as well as country. Good God.
The odd couple was a series taken from a film that was a hit .Roy Clark song "yesterday When I was Young" ,or "Dueling Banjos 'and many others.. Hee Haw must watch !Clark is one of the Best guitarist.
Roy Clark and Buck Owens were the Stars of "Hee-Haw" It was a country music comedy show from the 70"s which was a favorite of mine as a teenager =) They had many country stars on weekly and many top country performers from the Grand Ole Opry ! Their music was some of the best at that time ! Their comedy was a bit corny but always left a smile on your face =)
I believe Roy was still using a pick, you just can't see it. Roy was just as proficient on violin and banjo as most of the talents of the day. They had to be a triple to eat if some musian was sick they could fill in. Another couple of guitar players you should check out.1: Jerry Reed,Charo,Merle, Travis, glen Campbell,Thom Bresh,Tommy Emmanuel. Jim Stafford.Just to name a couple.✌️❤️
I remember him from Hee-Haw, syndicated show that was on for years on TV.
Many of the great guitarists would say that they weren’t good enough to even tune Roy’s guitar. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
Roy played many stringed instruments banjo fiddle mandolin. Guitar, you name it.He played it and he's one of the greatest
I think it was Pacho DeLucia (if I remember correctly) who played with Al DiMiola on "Mediterranean Sundance" which is another song that will blow you away.
Here are a couple reactions to Roy Clark you might want to check out; One is Folsom Prison Blues and the other one is 12th Street Rag
Spanish classical guitar at its finest!!
The Odd Couple was a tv sitcom where of the two friends, one was a slob and the other was a neat freak, each getting on the other's nerves. A funny show by very talented people.
I hope he is remembered for more than this particular appearance on a TV series, especially the Odd Couple as opposed to Hee Haw.
Roy Clark was an amazing instrumentalist, but also a very good singer with great comic skills. A couple of siggestions that i have nott seen mentioned yet, "Thank God and Greyhound" and "Orange blossom special" duet with Johnny Cash
a great singer too try yester when I was young
Roy could play about anything with strings. You should hear his Dueling Banjos
Roy is also very good on banjo and fiddle.
The odd couple was a show about a super neat freak and his slob sports writer friend who moves in with him. This was a recorded live show so everything is genuine here
Roy plays a longer version of of this on a 12 string at his place in Branson Missouri. A must watch. Also you should see him play: 12Street Rag and of course his version of Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues is like no other! 😜 to name a few of his great playing!
The bridge in the song, just before the applause breaks out...mimics the Mexican Flamenco dancers feet as they dance.
Players grow out their fingernails to be able to pick the strings without fear of dropping a a pick. When I was studying Spanish in Mexico, one of teachers was a guitarist in a Mexican band specializing in Spanish rock and classical music. His nails on his right hand were long and rounded so that he could play fast and properly. Rock and metal players do the same thing. Zakk Wilde is an example. His thumbnail is long and thick so that he shred on the guitar.
Roy can play any stringed instrument, he also plays this on a twelve string electric guitar 🎸
I've seen a video on you tube of him playing Ghost riders in the sky on a 12 string
yesterday when i was young
Ah, Roy Clark... the first star to build a theatre in Branson, that destroyed the area with commercialism! Hee-Haw was my Saturday night childhood with Roy Clark and Buck Owens.
They speak Spanish I Cuba. Roy Clark could play many instruments. He's also known as a comedian. The Odd Couple was a tv show based on a movie. Watch for Roy on Hee- Haw, a country variety show.
this is filmed as an episode of The Odd Couple TV show...comedy series......roy had a good sense of humor....he used to perform on Hee Haw regularly to in the late 60s early 70s too
Great reaction! if it had strings, Roy could master it!
The star of Hee Haw, the greatest country music variety show, despite it's intent to mock country music variety shows.
The Odd Couple was a sit com, starring 2 hugely famous actors.
the other guitarist u spoke of learn these things form Roy. He began playing Por in 1948, so all my life, at age 15.
