Funnily enough, he isn't actually super posh, it's just heightened for comedic effect because he's highly educated. About 95% of everything he says is nuanced sarcasm or satire (which we love in the UK!), he does it very well and is extremely intelligent. He knows exactly what he's saying and can usually out-smart most people in the room! One of my favourite comedians, great reaction video!
Believe me, he knows EXACTLY what he's saying, lol. Not only is he highly intelligent and famously witty, he's also British. If there's one thing that Brits get and do well, it's innuendo. It plays a pivotal role in so much of our humour. We've had long running sitcoms and entire film franchises, spanning decades, based on little else but innuendo. :)
The person who read out David Mitchell's intro, was actually his wife Victoria Coren. She is a writer, presenter and a very successful poker player, being the first player to win two European Poker Tour Main Events (EPT 2006 & 2014). As of 2021 her total live tournament winnings exceed $2,500,000, making her the 14th best-earning female live poker player ever. She was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame in 2016.
“He didn’t even realize how he was wording that” …of course he knew. That’s the genius of his comedy. His clever wording, self deprecation and dead pan delivery are what makes him so funny. Instead of these compilations you should watch an entire episode so you can appreciate David, Lee and Rob’s banter and quick wit.
Absolutely well said! You took the words out of my mind. I watch WILTY mainly due to David Mitchell. Victoria's narration of David Mitchell was spot on.
I'm from America and completely get David's comedy. He is so much like my late father and his sense of humor that it's almost unbelievable. My father was a funny nerdy guy with a beard. Need I say more? Lol I'm only sorry that my father didn't live long enough to see David. My Dad would have loved him and Richard Ayoade so much. Their comedy is just so smart and dry. He would have loved a lot of the other U.K. and Irish comedians and comedy style, too. It's just that David is so similiar to my Dad. I love watching him.
yes that is why him and Lee have been the leaders for so long on this show, and others. He's very intelligent and knowledgeable and practiced. As quick a wit that Lee has on the fly, David is pretty quick also.

David's married to Victoria Coren Mitchell, a professional gambler, TV celebrity and columnist who hosts probably one of the most difficult quizzes on TV... Imagine that household.
Victoria's Secret is that her Father was Editor of Punch for decades( the rival,in its day) to Private Eye and one of the wittiest people you could ever meet:)
Sorry lads, I'm not gonna go through all your comments. But to answer your question, the American you refer to is Harry Shearer of Spinal Tap and The Simpsons fame. Mr. Burns. Excellent 😀
Thanks for liking British humor "panel shows", I myself discovered it in Sweden when BBC Nordic began some 7 years ago. Another show that is VERY GOOD is "QI", start with the early ones with Stephen Fry. I think you're from Baltimore to judge by the flag, good luck to the Ravens!
great video I have noticed you have not covered any Q.I. yet possibly a compilation of Ross Noble on the show would be good as he is a comedian whose mind can go off in strange tangents, btw the women introducing this clip is Victoria Coren Mitchell, Davids wife.
If you want to REALLY dive on the "different humor" thing you can check the "MACK SPEED" compilation of Lee Mack from the same "Wilty NOPE!" channel ... it is amazing :) - but it is too long so you could put it on two videos. Honestly, what you should check is "The Cockroach king" story with Bob Mortimer from Would I Lie to You ... Bob is awesome :D
Pro tip when guessing: David and Lee have been on the show for years, dozens of episodes. Im assiming most of the extremely unlikely but surprisingly true stories they have were already featured on the show so particularly for these two you should mostly guess lie
Guys, David M is enlarging and playing up to Lee and Rob's persona they've created with him. Yes, he is the 'uptight and upright' traditional Brit with the plain and 'boring' British idiosyncrasies but its very enlarged for comedic effect. He's deadpan, sharp and very witty and his missus is similar which makes them an epic pair. Loving your WILTY reactions ❤ oh and in British zoo and story tradition, Elephants love eating buns! Not butts, buns! ✌🏻❤🇬🇧🎸
The Kevin the bun seller reference, was a sarcastic joke directed back at Lee for suggesting that if David had always visited elephants in the company of another person, that it may in fact be his friend that held the attraction. It wasn't about a specific character.
Before the US version would ever take off, the main ingredient is missing: English humour. The US has NO HUMOUR, only slapstick and after each verbal delivery the actors WAIT for the applause.
David Mitchell is a Legend 👍🏼 I was never into Lego as a child but I wonder, why is Lego considered childish? We play board games, ride bikes and do jigsaw’ as adults, but they aren’t considered childish🌈
The American on the panel is Harry Shearer - multiple voices in the Simpsons, and was the bass player in Spinal Tap. But dozens of films and TV shows all told.
James May from Top Gear had a TV series where he made a Lego House the size of a normal house. In other episodes he made other large scale stuff like a Scalectrix track the full length of the Brooklands Racetrack.
Watching WILTY was my introduction to British panel shows and the comedy reminds me of when my husband worked with 4 Brits and a Welsh man, he would come home each day and tell me about their daily banter and I would be laughing hilariously. I love David and his marriage to Victoria Coren Mitchell, is my couple crush.
Every one we didn't see the answer to was a lie - Losing a shoe at bowling, building with Lego, Pizza guy helping with bed, swallowing an earring, and going to a football match. Also, please remember that the contestants don't know the lies on the cards in advance. The show's writing staff makes them up. Also that American actor was Harry Shearer who was on SNL, does several voices on The Simpsons (such as Mr. Burns and Flanders) as well as acted in several movies such as This is Spinal Tap and The Mighty Wind.
David's parents were hotel managers who went on to be hospitality lecturers and Lee's parents ran a pub. They have talked about playing up to fabricated differences as an ongoing joke on the show, partly because they sound different and people make assumptions because Lee is northern. They have both said that in reality they are actually very alike and come from very similar backgrounds. David has also joked that during the first years of the series (before he was married) he was living in an ex-council flat and Lee had a boat and was living in a very nice house on the Thames 😂 Most of the childhood stories that play into the suggestion that David is 'posh' turn out to be false.
David doesn't play with Tony's Lego. Claudia Winkleman was on David's team that episode. You should check her out. Also, his wife Victoria Coren Mitchell did the intro narration!
In terms of other WILTY to watch, there are a lot more David Mitchell and Lee Mack specific compilations to watch, but in terms of panelists that you haven't covered the ones to look out for are Richard Osmand, Greg Davis, Kevin Bridges, Claudia Winkleman, Victoria Mitchell (David's wife) and Rhod Gilbert
David talking about doing jigsaws on his grandads coffin reminds me of an incident. It was at my dads funeral. My son was about 3 or 4. He was looking at the coffin while the eulogies were being read. He then leaned over to me and said, "Dad, is grandad in that box?" so I said "Yes, he is", he waited a moment and then said "When's he coming out?" 🤣 My mum and a few others overheard it. Was the funniest thing we'd heard. My dad would have appreciated it.
Great reaction on the great WILTY, can't beat it, Do more on this show guys. Only gripe I have is that your audio is quite a bit louder than the video's audio that you're watching
Actually the bun comment is a reference to the common British belief that Elephants enjoy buns! I remember reading about cartoon Elephants who liked to eat buns in The Beano, and also I think Nellie the Elephant was another example of an Elephant that enjoys a hot sweet bun - nothing lewd or sexual there!
We have a old fashioned traditional game that's mostly played in rural areas called Skittles..it is by nature very similar to ten pin bowling that has 6 pins spaced farther apart, with a heavy lead ball bout a bit bigger than a tennis ball.
Hes sort of playing a character based on one he's famous for from a TV show called Peep show, you should check it out v funny... the character is uptight and unable to take a joke (which is where the comedy comes from). The fact the voice-over at the beginning says he lives a sad sexless life is actually his real life wife sort of ads to the comedy... like, even his wife openly calls him a loser
Ooh we've been waiting for this one! Time for a noon fry-up (yeah I know it's late to eat breakfast... but I'm hungover so I slept in), a giant mug of tea, and this playing on my TV 🙂
It's his brutal, cold logic that dissects things. You should look at his rant videos. And the lego thing, james may of top gear fame built a house out of lego so it is possible! The american dude is Harry Shearer of Spinal tap and the Simpsons fame. He was living in the UK as was a lecturer at the old vic theatre.
You guys should to react 'Mitchellian rants and outbursts' which is a hilarious collection of what is called David Mitchell's 'angry logic'/rants on Would I Lie to You.
You'd be surprised what grandparents seem to own. My grandad had a blacklight room for developing photos from the 80s, we didn't know about it until he sold his house. Us grandkids always thought he went to a shop like a normal person and got the photos printed, little did we know he was developing them himself. Never talked about it. Now that I think about it, it seems like something a spy would do..
Agreed, WILTY is an incredible show, the banter is phenomenal. The only show i watch regularly on TV. I think you guys need to start watching full episodes if you can get hold of them
We recently started making our own version of the show here in Australia… it doesn’t compare and really highlights the brilliance of the relationship between David, Lee and Rob
On the mystery guest bits where they never told you the answer, I would say you can assume he was connected to one of the others on his team or they would have shown you the answer
You have to realise that Mitchell and Mack have been on the show since the first season and so there probably aren't any stories left to tell. The writers come up with stories that the men have to use their wit to elaborate on as they wish. That's what makes their stories so hilarious - their quick wit.
The card they read from tells them a scenario, it maybe a real event or it tells you one line that they haven't seen till they read it on the show, and they have to make up a story on the spot to convince the other team it's true
David Mitchells got a pretty hot wife now, TV presenter, professional Poker player, he's done alright for himself, Jon Richardson fell on his feet with Lucy Beaumont too lol
You should try Upstart Crow. This has David playing Shakespeare as the main character. It’s very much in the same vein as Black Adder. Harry Enfield is also in this program as well.

What? You didn’t recognise Mr Burns, Ned Flanders and Principal Seymour Skinner from The Simpson’s? Wow! It’s Harry Shearer of course…
great video I have noticed you have not covered any Q.I. yet possibly a compilation of Ross Noble on the show would be good as he is a comedian whose mind can go off in strange tangents, btw the women introducing this clip is Victoria Coren Mitchell, Davids wife.
In the US elephants like peanuts. In UK it's buns.
Pro tip when guessing: David and Lee have been on the show for years, dozens of episodes. Im assiming most of the extremely unlikely but surprisingly true stories they have were already featured on the show so particularly for these two you should mostly guess lie
Rob Brydon is a tip top hilarious all rounder. Not only is he a fantastic actor but also an ace impersonator. ❤his Tom Jones
Does a good impersonation of himself from Death in Paradise.
The guy in the middle is Rob Brydon. He's a Welsh actor and comedian who does impressions.
@@marythurlow9132 Yeah, him and Ben Miller (the first detective in Death in Paradise) could be twins.
51:25 The American man is Harry Shearer, Seymour Skinner's voice on The Simpsons.
I doubt David Mitchell would stand over someone doing work for him - way too confrontational :P And he absolutely realises how he is wording things
Oh, he absolutely does know how he's wording things Spencer.
We love our cerebral comedy in the UK. 😂✌️♥️🇬🇧
You should watch his rage and ranting compilation, its so funny, I love it when he rants and has outbursts
You guys need to watch an entire episodes, as well as the compilations
Love the banter on would I lie to you, so funny, both Lee and David are so quick witted.
you need to watch 'Rob Brydon's impressions on Would I Lie to You?'. Brilliant.
David Mitchell is a Legend 👍🏼
I was never into Lego as a child but I wonder, why is Lego considered childish?
We play board games, ride bikes and do jigsaw’ as adults, but they aren’t considered childish🌈
The American on the panel is Harry Shearer - multiple voices in the Simpsons, and was the bass player in Spinal Tap.
But dozens of films and TV shows all told.
As for suggestions for other WILTY compilations: Rhod Gilbert, Henning Wehn and Greg Davies are all excellent.
Also James Acaster’s compilation is very, very funny
@@bobfromthebell
100%
Rhod's stories are all insane
@@nigelt74
The wonderful Chris McCausland.
@@BunniMonster Thanks for that
You should really watch the the episode with James Acaster and the cabbage
James May from Top Gear had a TV series where he made a Lego House the size of a normal house. In other episodes he made other large scale stuff like a Scalectrix track the full length of the Brooklands Racetrack.
Brooklands not Goodwood. (Goodwood would be easy) he also made a fullsize airfix spitfire and a Meccano bridge
What I love the most about you both watching this programme......is that you forget you are doing it to 'react'......you just enjoy it 😉 ♥
David is a national treasure, really. :D He deserves a knighthood!
He then leaned over to me and said, "Dad, is grandad in that box?" so I said "Yes, he is", he waited a moment and then said "When's he coming out?" 🤣
My mum and a few others overheard it. Was the funniest thing we'd heard. My dad would have appreciated it.
That's hilarious. My nephew did a similar thing recently when the hamster died. He turn to my sister in law and said he needs new batteries mummy. 😂
@@happyhedgehog6450 Cells, surely?
@@ajivins1 I don't know what that means I'm afraid. Is that a sketch I failed to mention?
@@happyhedgehog6450 Batteries/Cells, that's all. Living things have cells too.
@@ajivins1 bet you fun at parties
You need to react to his rants and outbursts video on WILTY.
This video couldn't have come at a better time. Cheers lads
The class humour between David, Lee and Rob is perfect.
They play the stereotypes brilliantly
David is always great on WILTY and is also a great writer and a very funny actor. Upstart Crow in which he plays Shakepeare is worth a watch too.
That's show was so good I wrote an essay in my final year about it
Great reaction on the great WILTY, can't beat it,
Do more on this show guys.
Only gripe I have is that your audio is quite a bit louder than the video's audio that you're watching
It helps get it past the alghorythm
James acaster is great in WILTY he’s got some great stories kinda like a young bob mortimer
It's played in some of the more traditional pubs.
Guy in the middle(gamesmaster),Rob Bryden is from Wales!Love the vids guys!!!!
No-one asks why he would have a bucket of frogs at the bottom of his garden rather than a pond! He's very dry and extremely funny! Thanks guys! Xx
You keep them in a bucket until they’ve grown enough to live in the pond. It’s basic stuff.
Have you done Mel Giedroyc and Lou Sanders "Unforgivable"?
I remember watching James May's Toy Stories on TV. That Lego house was impressive imo 😆
Your grandfather was 100% working for MI6 🤣
Mitchell & Webb, David Mitchell's Soapbox, David Mitchell's bit on increasing the speed limit, and his logic rants on QI are all perfection.
David Mitchell is a MAN. This is a persona. He is thoroughly clever and kind and very, very attractive.
Finally!
David Mitchells got a pretty hot wife now, TV presenter, professional Poker player, he's done alright for himself, Jon Richardson fell on his feet with Lucy Beaumont too lol
David and Jon are both among the most attractive of British men but only for clever women
You should try Upstart Crow. This has David playing Shakespeare as the main character. It’s very much in the same vein as Black Adder. Harry Enfield is also in this program as well.
Would I Lie To You..James Acaster is awesome ... so funny.
You can generally assume the the team leaders are lying as they are on every episode. There are some surprises still.
Yes, true.
