Great content like usual. I like the change up in the canoe - you're able to cover so much different water with a craft. And anything that is powered by manpower rather than gas is A+ in my opinion. Keep it up!
That looked freaking epic dude! The Bucks are so cool looking - I hope to catch some chrome someday. Also that bonus ice footage has me fired up for ice fishing. Can’t wait til we get ice here in Grand Rapids!
I used to use that same rig for steelhead and salmon in Trail creek in Indiana year around. It's much smaller and full of log jams, bit it was fun getting them on. We also drifted night crawlers with success. I always used a bait cast reel, but I like the idea of a fly reel. Thanks for the video. That's a beautiful river.
Great video! I'm getting ready to do some fishing this weekend. It's a lot warmer here in the southwest, but the fishing where you're at looks awesome!
Great winter steelhead fishing! A word of caution though for the ice fishing part, that ice looked little bit on the thinner side. I think the recommended safe thickness is supposed to be 4+ inches.
Can you go over the pros and cons of running braid or mono or fluoro on centerpins? Im in texas so dont have too much use for them but im always interested in the techniques you and fish fray use
For centerpins mono is pretty much the standard. It floats which allows you to pick the line up off the water quickly on the hookset and has some stretch which helps keep the small hooks pinned in the fish. Fluoro is good for leader because it's hard to see underwater, but it sinks so isn't ideal for mainline when float fishing. Braid floats so is an option although it is light and can easily get tangled on windy days or missed hooksets.
@@peelindrag113 just started running braid this fall and it was good until it gets below zero! Then it holds so much water that your guides freeze up on every drift.
Thanks man! Just updated the description, most of the info is there. The rod is just a cheap Eagle Claw, I'll be getting a new one soon. Float is just a 10.5g Sheffield.
Are you allowed to use barbs in Michigan? In british columbia all rivers and streams are barb less hooks , for all species, but most lakes unless there is an issue barbed hooks are allowed
@@peelindrag113 thank you, the main reason for single barb less hooks is to protect all the wild species of salmon, steelhead, trout, and sturgeon in the rivers snd streams, we are only allowed to retain hatchery fish. Of these species, except no sturgeon at all from the Fraser river may be retsined,
I haven't found any perfect method, although you can buy gels/oils to put on your rod guides which helps keep water from sticking and freezing (cooking spray also works) or you can buy rods that have guides which are build to keep water from sticking.
I've tried a few times, it's just much more challenging. Now that I'm getting more confident catching steelhead on normal gear, I'd definitely like to start trying to use the fly more. Hopefully it'll happen soon!
Wow wicked fish.brother beauty on on the canoe! I instantly subscribed to support hopefully you can show some love tight lines keep pumping those vids il be watching
Love it when its covered in fresh snow like that
Same here man
There's nothing like feeling the power of a steelhead .
Beautiful place to fish, and good fishing as well. Great stuff guys

Thanks! I was a little nervous fishing out of it at first with the water being 35 degrees.. ended up being pretty comfortable!
@@peelindrag113 That's rad. Winter floats are legit! Everything is frozen solid up here so none of that for me :(

It sure was a blast! I'm definitely starting to get anxious for some ice though. Should be a good season!
Nice catches man, love the snow on the trees, beautiful. Enjoyed the video, thanks.
I'm glad you liked it. Hard to beat the scenery!

Simple but effective! Thanks for watching man, I appreciate it.
Great video, nice fish. Looked like a good day to float down the river.
Thanks Jerald! Sure was a good time.
Winter wonderland! Beauty fish too.
Beautiful steelhead!!!
Gorgeous fish. Great video. Thank you sir.
Thanks for watching!
Really cool vid man gotta love those steelies, you got my sub 👍🏼
Thanks Jarrett! Hopefully many more vids to come 👍
Could the scenery be any more beautiful!?
Great content!
That big dune wall spot looked oddly familiar but the current was going the wrong way 😂😂😂
You are the fishing youtuber I can relate to because you live in the Michigander state
Dinner is ready! Nice fish
Now thats the way to net a fish, take note people.
Randy Eggleston thank you man I’ve netted a few of them in my day now lmao
Great video, awesome Steelheads but that ice looked a might thin. Looking forward to seeing your next upload.
Thanks Mark! It did look pretty thin, but it was a solid 4". Didn't hear a crack all day 👍
@@peelindrag113 right on 4 is solid

The cold weather sure can make for cool scenery. Wouldn't mind it being a few degrees warmer though.. Good luck this weekend!

The ice was 4" of black ice. It doesn't show up well on gopro but we didn't hear a crack all day 👍
Awesome video!!

New to steelhead fishing. Where do people get spawn sacks at? I see everyone using them but I don’t know where they get them at.
Good stuff keep it up
Thanks man!
Awesome dude.
I'm glad you liked it!
Rod tip up, you're shotgunning the fish. Let the dynamics of the rod take the shock.
I gave it a thumbs up anyway. Cheers from the West Coast of Canada
😂🤣🤣😂🤣
Wow! Nice fish
Some nice chrome! Scenery ain’t too bad either!
Hard to beat it!
Where is that at?
Come to the Slam Bang fishing lodge this summer but you have to book a date
Awesome video!!! Quick question, what size rod do you use?
Dude that looks amazing!! Definitely gotta try that!! Maybe we can fish together one day!!
Damn. Great video bud
Once again a great video! What kind of rod/reel/line/float are you using?
Thanks man! Just updated the description, most of the info is there. The rod is just a cheap Eagle Claw, I'll be getting a new one soon. Float is just a 10.5g Sheffield.
Where is the shot guns, fish in the slow spots, duck hunt when the birds move in. Looks like a great spot for both!
I'm not much of a duck hunter, but that could definitely make for a fun day.
Grew up in Oregon, freezing my tail off for Winter Steelhead was a tradition growing up. You ever use a drift boat for them and salmon?
I do a little salmon fishing each year but haven't gotten too into it. I'd like to try more next season!
1st video I seen on your channel Good vid
I'm glad you liked it!
Great video. Awesome that you released those. Can I ask, is that a regular fly reel set up(reel, rod) or is it specific for drift fishing?
He's using a center pin rod, not a fly rod.
Thanks
I need to get into steelhead fishing because there’s some good spots in Michigan
Probably the best state for it!
I wish I knew where. I live in Howell and have no clue where to go in mi
That ice is lookin pretty damn thin bro!!
Solid 4"
Bet it makes some scary feeling when it cracks!!
Tuning in 💪😎👍

Thanks man! Many more vids to come
Good video👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful vid man, nicely done!
Thanks man, always nice when things work out!
Nice fish! What’s the idea behind using fly rods?
Just a different way of catching them. A little more challenging which makes it more fun to some people.
Cheers, just never seen it before. Bloody nice fish mate

Any tips for frozen rod guides?

Put chapstick on the guides, that should help and snap the wrist to shake any excess water from the line and guides
You gonna break out the fly rod for some chrome?

Good video BUT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF YOU KEPT THOSE FISH AND COOKED THEM UP !!!!
Let em go let em grow 👍
Süper brooo👍
Is he using a spinning rod with a fly reel
Nope it's a centerpin reel. Looks similar but they are totally different reels
What time about are you fishing?
Started around 9am and floated till dark.
BADASS video bro!!! 🤘🏼
Can't wait for the next one!
Would take every brain cell I have to operate the backwards spinning reel on a skating rink.
I like to give myself a challenge 😉
Which state by the way
Michigan
Center pin?
It's a type of reel meant for float fishing

What kind of stupid fishing is it?! Come on boys, this is not fly fishing at all!!!
Your right, we're fishing with centerpin reels. No one ever mentioned fly fishing
Great vid....but SEA RUN OR NOTHING
🙄🙄🙄
Beautiful fish! 👍🏻
What wt rod are you using??
I wasn't using a fly rod. 10'6" ML spinning rod
Realized after I commented that you were using a centerpin... Awesome video and awesome fish man!
