Erbil, Kurdistan ➖ After waiting for the Iraqi heat to subside, I finally made a trip out to this region of the world. A country that has been devastated by war, conflict and politics, but also, a country filled with beauty, culture and history.
I start this journey arriving in Erbil, Kurdistan, an autonomous region in Iraq that has its own military, language and is a whole new country in itself. Kurdistan has been a well-visited destination for tourists for many years with easy visa on arrival facilities.
I actually met a subscriber in the terminal who had also come from Beirut, so I snagged a lift into the centre of town where my hotel awaited me. After checking in to the cheapest hotel in Iraq, I roamed the streets for dinner before meeting up with my friends @worldnomac and @YadVenturess

I'm from the UK but I've been in Erbil, Kurdistan for a year teaching English. I can confirm that Erbil is a great place to be. The people are friendly, generous and sincere. The food is good. The weather is mostly warm/hot and sunny. There are some great parks, Sami Park is huge. There are all the modern malls you could want. (Family Mall is massive) there's no beach but there are some nearby rivers that you can swim in, the water is crystal clear. There are even night clubs too and excellent restaurants that are reasonably priced. Most people have a grasp of basic English but just learn some basic words and expressions and you'll be fine. I'm having a great time here. You can walk around late at night and you feel safe - I feel safer here than I do in London! There are other nice places to visit nearby - Shaqlawa and Akre are good. The pound goes a long way here. I would recommend Erbil to anyone!
Right ,i'm from here !
Thanke you so much for this words about us ❤️❤️❤️
You always welcome in Kurdistan
Kurdish music is the best, Erbil is a dream destination for me
The people of this country are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. My goodness.
Luke is one of the kindest and very compassionate traveller on RUclips. You have so much patience and eager to learn when you are not sure about certain things. I always say Aussies are my favorite traveller's of all time and Luke makes my case stronger
Thanks a lot, really appreciate the kind words. But I can't vouch for all Aussies 😂 most of us a either passed out drunk on a beach in Thailand or Greece hahaha
Yes.. and you watch also Harald baldr videos...Luke and Harald both are my favorite
Definitely Luke is a good guy. You can tell that he was brought up from a good family. Well mannered.
I know . Watch him since first day in Pakistan and it have been a journey . You have been so good at editing videos. Keep up the good work . Hi from Norway 🇳🇴

VERY FRIENDLY PEOPLE IN KURDISTAN IRAQ
Yeah but we are not friendly when u call it IRAQ
@@apollogames2088 yes Kurdistan is a country, iraq is infidel
@@apollogames2088 I am from Iraqi Kurdistan, which is actually an Iraqi region. Why are you deceiving yourselves? 😮
It's interesting to see kurdistan; seems like Kurds are pretty different culturally than their neighbors
The Kurds are maintaining a democratic environment with steadily improving human and women rights despite being surrounded by islamic extremism and terrorism. Only Kurds can create such stability in the region.
@UChnX8IwhOcYBknhGpdxG0rA not sure why you brought up those 2 countries? They are nowhere near the Kurds, but Qatar and the UAE both still govern their countries according to Sharia law. I don‘t think I need to say much more.
@@densen650 majority of Kurds themselves are sunni muslims
@@satanshameer690 and yet the Kurds create a secure safe haven for people of all religious beliefs. Also, what a senseless comparison. Turkey and Afghanistan are both majority Sunni countries but one is a secular republic while the other is an islamic emirate.
@@satanshameer690 and? arabs hate kurds and turks hate kurds too. so?XD
Those Syrian guys are pure heart people they went through a lot ❤️ and still have kind hearts they probably came to Iraq from the war that started in Syria 🥺 deserve a lot he kept calling u his love their genuinely pure
@@yamihuner7509 wait what
The Kurds have been under suppression for the past 100 years, that’s why they provide refuge to anyone in need. Specially war refugees
Look, we love and respect Syrians and we welcome them however… this is KURDISTAN! It will ALWAYS be Kurdistan. So show some respect and call it Kurdistan rather than Iraq.

I’m Kurdish and I’ve never even been to my own home country so it was nice to follow your vlogs of where I come from. Also I showed my mum some videos and I found out yada is actually her cousin 😂
Wonderful mentality of showing the real image of people in countries the media portrays a negative bias towards. Small steps like this show the humanity of the "other" to make bridges towards understanding and compassion. Thank you Luke
Small steps are better than no steps. As a mailman in New York I have customers from all over the world on my route. Believe me the most generous have been the Muslims on my route from Yemen and Jordan. I learned a few words in their language and I never expected it but they treat like family always making sure I have enough to drink or asking if I'm hungry.
When I went back there this summer it was so good and fun if you ever have a chance to go there you should our Kurdish culture is very nice
i live in iraq
Welcome to Kurdistan !
