A Train Odyssey 7, AMTRAK "California Zephyr" (eastbound) Part 6

  • This is Part 6 of an 8-part mega-train Odyssey, consisting of my eastbound 3-day trip on AMTRAK's "California Zephyr" from Emeryville, California to Chicago's Union Station in August 2022.
    Because the weather was so fine, and the time of year provided a lot more spectacular scenery during daylight hours, I decided to take a LOT of video, and edit to preserve as much good content as possible. I also decided to edit so that each of the 8 parts (except the shorter Part 1 "Prologue") was about 1.5 hours duration, rather than make a smaller number of longer video segments.
    I have a MUCH shorter RUclips video of the California Zephyr, taken on a westbound train in late December, and that is only about 1.5 hours long by itself, if you want a shorter viewing experience or want to see the route in the Winter with snow-covered mountain passes.

    You probably won’t see this comment but I like your content because you show plenty of footage and no annoying background music. More reasons but those are the main two. Thank you! Great job

    At about 00:05:20 in the video, one can see the results of the 2020 Grizzly Creek wildfire (started by a disabled vehicle on I-70). The railroad diverges from I-70 at Dotsero (contrary to other popular myths, Dotsero is the Spanish phonetic pronunciation of the name of a prominent Ute Indian warrior), following the Colorado River and its upper tributary, the Fraser River, to the Moffat Tunnel. Oh, and the Colorado River was, until the 1920's, called the Grand River (not to be confused with the Rio Grande River, that also begins in Colorado) above Lee's Ferry, Arizona. Thus, the names of Grand County (one in Utah, one in Colorado), Grand Junction, Grand Valley, and Grand Lake. The Dotsero Cutoff was built in 1934 to connect the then Denver & Salt Lake Railroad (though it never went any farther west than Craig, Colorado) at Bond, Colorado to the Denver & Rio Grande Western mainline at Dotsero (the D&RGW mainline east of Dotsero crossed Tennessee Pass and ran eastward to Pueblo, Colorado. Most of that line is still in place, but has been out of service from Minturn to Parkdale (west of Canon City, Colorado) since 1998 The actual railway junction at Bond is called "Orestod", which is "Dotsero" spelled backwards. By the way, driving traffic-choked I-70 between Denver and Glenwood Springs quit being enjoyable years ago--especially in winter weather, when it can be a complete nightmare trip dealing with hordes of clueless tourists and other drivers with little or no winter mountain driving experience. The road across the valley and up the slope as one enters Gore Canyon is Trough Road--I've driven it many times.

    I was going to inform you the track departs I-70 at Dotsero… another comment details the path. In my experience, the rafters just east of 131 (near Rancho Del Rio) will happily moon you. Thanks for your work, I have really enjoyed these travel blogs and your attention to detail on museum tours.

      Andrew Teichman, I am wondering what part of my video suggested that I-70 continues to follow the tracks all the way up into the mountains, since I knew that they do not......?

    This is a great train ride between Glenwood Springs and Denver. While living in Denver, I did it twice as a round trip with an overnight stay in the hotel across the street from the train station. I also did the bike trail one time. our video does a good job showing the trip. It did seem to me, however, the color has a yellow tint like looking through a bad pair of sunglasses.

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba  Год назад

      KU84dh37, the mountains around Glacier don't get the "snow caps" like they used to, and the mountains the Zephyr goes through get lots of snow.
      As for the "other commentators view", who is that person (you wrote singular), and why would I care about their views in regard to MY channel (which is where you have made your comment)?

    At 1:01:09, those were some BEAUTIFUL mooners, and you did NOT point 'em out; you're slipping!! Then, at 1:03:30, a nice lady gave us a pantie-flash! It would be nice if a lady gave us a full-frontal! Oh my, but aren't we enjoying ourselves?? But you gotta ask, how much of the passengers and crew are actually noticing? Church ladies, too(?), they're bound to write seething letters, emails, to the Colorado Justice Department to do something about that. Then, there's bound to be more action taken by Colorado State Troopers, if during collision investigations on I-70, they find that the culpable motorists admit to being distracted by moonies. Then, they're going to have to place undercover Troopers on the river, to put an unfortunate stop to all of the malarkey. Sigh, oh well.
    I'm DEE-LIGHTFULLY surprised to see a lot of chicks gotten into the spirit. For us dudes, believe you me, it's far more pleasurable for us guys to see pantie-flashes and derrieres, rather than when guys do it.

    Who do we complain to at RUclips about the commercials? Your video plays for a min or less and it goes to commercial. Few more min and more commercials. It does that for about the 1st ten min and then it just plays your video.

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba  4 месяца назад

      cwr961, you are just waking up to this now?
      Used to be, RUclips only put commercials on monetized videos, but more recently the greedy guts add commercials to every video, unless they are paid to NOT do so.
      Well, philosophically, they don't charge people to host videos, and need to pay for all that somehow, but certainly they data mine viewers and sell that. We could all vote by abandoning RUclips, but seriously who's going to do that when they are the only game in town?
