When talking about greek religion, and every non revealed religion, people forget that this religions do not have an official version of the facts they talk about. These religions do not have a sacred book they consider font of truth. So the tradition and stories of Greek religion changed with the time. There were lots of versions of every Greek legend most of them where lost because of CHRISTIAN people burning their scrolls and killing pagans. Greeks didn't even believe in their own creation myth because there are legends and drawings of people living before the fight between gods and Titans and in some of them these humans do even have tails and walk not completely erected. So before judging ancient cultures and religions we should first study them well for decades and know them deeply without being blinded by pregiudice, which is almost impossible for worshippers of a religion that claimed and still claims to be the only truth. The past was not as ignorant as we think it to be

I'm native Hawaiian and, we have extremely similar Gods to the ones the Greek,Romans, and Egyptians had so, I think these religions are more likely to be real.
Kanakalala🌺 I am actually from Greece and one of the few people who actually still believe in the Greek gods and goddesses and still worship them. I completely agree with you, that the religions with multiple gods/goddesses are more believable than Christianity, even though people say they were just made up to explain something. I also think it could be possible for religions such as the Greeks, Hindus, Egyptians, Hawaiians, etc to coexist with each other
But here’s the thing Greek and Roman are the same thing but they have different names in both languages. and Egyptian gods. Greek gods/Roman they are all very close and almost the same so what if They are the same. The first one to start is greek. Roman . Then Egyptian they make their own names for the gods so what if all of these are the same they are just The Greek gods/Roman. God and Jesus were made up after them so why do people believe in them and god
True stories become legends and legends become myths. People call those myths 'cause there is no way to prove that they are real. Eventually , we forget the legends and a great history turns into a dwellig myth. Who knows , one day we may be able to find out.
@@martynblackburn1977 You are correct. Likely, the 'Epic Of Gilgamesh', was actually written down, before the account of Noah, in Gensis was. However...that does not mean, that the account of Noah...was not orally, or in reality an historical event that happened before 'The Epic Of Gilgamesh', was written down. The account in Genesis about Noah, could have happened before, 'The Epic Of Gilgamesh', was written down. Just because, 'The Epic Of Gilgamesh', was written down first...does not mean; that it necessarily 'happened' first.
Greek mythology came before Judaism and Christianity, same as Paganism and even the Egyptian myths. All of these contained elements that later were copied in the bible. Religions are fluid and change with time to suit the time period and to help those in power to maintain control. The Catholic church has very little power now which is why Christian numbers are dropping and there are more atheists and agnostics in traditionally Christian countries. If you don't believe me you can look up the statistics and study the history of religion. Alternitavely read the bible and study it's inconsistencies and how depicitions of supernatural events changed over time. Religious literature is very beautiful, but its very much fictional.
i have watched the video twice, maybe my mind is not ready to receive info or smth after a long day, but i still don't understand. so greek mythology is a warped and changed version of the holy books? or is it another way round. i love stuff like this so i am open for a discussion or explanation of this video!
If you haven't you should look up some of Michael Heiser's videos on here. Specifically regarding Psalm 82. Also think about the confusion of the languages at Babel and all of the confusion and changes in tales and narratives that would have occurred.
like he said, the gods were product of fallen angels, after the world were destroyed, human being could not survived if world destroyed, you know the story about how human have originated in the greek myths right ...
So basically you have one dude that only lives his god and he’s the one who is telling you if you’re god is real or not? It doesn’t get more bias then that.
Not surprising as Christianity was based on Hebrew legends, Greek demigods and Greek philosophy. Not surprising since the gospels were all written in koine Greek.
Here is a story for your amusement: I am pretty sure they were real people with high abilities, perhaps newly arrived beings who came to start a new civilization based upon good organization and a strong ethical code. Their failure over time was lack of ensuring compliances. In other words, the naughty ones caused extra work for the others and all they knew to handle disturbances was the Vicissitudes. Dionysus should not have been allowed to join the group. He was not for the group but for himself. After the Romans destroyed Athens, there was nothing left after they carted away most of the statues and tried to pass off the Gods and Goddesses as theirs, by changing names. Actual memories ended up fables. But the intention to civilize those tribes and Athens' success in doing so was Athena's "magic". She loved her people and held her post til way past the time she should have passed the hat. Hers is a time honored legacy that could never be destroyed. I see it with rebuilding of the Parthenon these days. It had a wonderful beginning. Athena loved her original location, but the honor of such a gift as that beautifully built structure was more important to the people as a citadel for knowledge. The people around the area sent their sharpest sons to learn and contribute by sharing the knowledge back to their tribes. These days I like to think all of those Gods have regrouped and are busy learning about life, readying to finish the job, and in better condition this time.
4:52 Jimminy Christmas what a turn around! This video seemed like it’d be a really in depth look at Greek gods for a long time but in that moment I felt so much thematic whiplash that I think I need to call my chiropractor. A long talk about how stories developed followed by a rapid, clumsy, and not very supported conclusion of “Well we know the old testimate is true: Zeus doesn’t care about the state of your heart.”
Parts of what he said I thought was very awesome. That he wanted to tie in the past with now. Usually people just want to throw EVERYTHING out except for what they currently know. So I am very relieved to find someone who can tie it together some. From the studies I have done though, Zeus did care about people. He did have mercy and it was said that he hated it when people did sacrifices. There was a story too about how sometimes he would appear as a weary traveler to see if people would be hospitable. They said the Gods would often reward people for good deeds. I think there was a lot more to him though than we know today. I feel the same about his brother Poseidon... Really all of them. Ya, maybe not everything they did was totally nice but I feel like they have done more than we know.
This explanation is so thoughtful in its simplicity. Most skeptics paint all religion with a wide brush; I've never heard a Christian have the decency to say some pagan legends are real. The one thing that's missing from this conversation is that "pettiness" does exist among the writers of mythology, the Norse myths are full of it. It would be hard to pan out the grain of truth from a story about a king who has achieved wealth and control but is constantly being deceived by his own wife and kinsmen.
No, people should not believe what they believe. Someone believing something gives it zero validity, and untruth is dangerous. People should believe what has been shown to be most likely to be true. And "give the guy a break"??? He is polluting the minds of anyone not old enough or sharp enough to see his utter nonsense for what it is. If he doesn't want people to call him on his B.S., he shouldn't allow videos of him speaking it to be posted on RUclips.

Fun fact when Antiochus IV Epiphanes erected a statue of Zeus in Jerusalem, the Jews called Zeus “Baal Shamen” (lord of heaven) when Zeus was often called “father Zeus” or “the father” and Roman also did this as well with Jupiter. And Dionysus was a demigod that died and was rebirthed into a god. Makes you think doesn’t it? but thank you to bringing sanity to the world
Is a gold statue a god no is a rock a god no did people and do people still worship things like they are gods yes so with that being said the context of this scripture is to not worship anyone but him noone is god but him but people will say they are
Nietzche said that every religion starting from a historical real person cause ancient people worshipped the dead. So in any case Zeus was a real man maybe with strong voice like thunder and Ares god of war a ferocious fighter of Messiny and poseidon an extremely good navigator thats why god of the sea etc. It all makes sense. Behind a myth and a legend there is always a historical fact exceptions are included of course
The next step then would be to academically study pagan religions to reconstruct knowledge of the angels. Common pagan tropes - sleeping gods, lightning wielders, divine horse twins probably contain information about the angels. In fact, one trope - the new Gods defeating the old Gods (Titans and Olympians, Jötunnar and Æsir, Fomorians and Tuatha Dé Dannan, Baal cycle) reflects the war in heaven/fall of Satan/fall of man. Not to mention, the Canaanite myths, which even feature many beings known in the Bible or Mysticism and Qabbalah (Yahweh, The Leviathan, Asmodeus, Lillith, the Behemoth), probably contains the closest truth, and can be used as a great tool for reconstruction.
Genuinely I want to believe so hard in Greek mythology. I believe in that more than any other religion and that is just my honest opinion. I think that while these myths are truthful, they did get twisted as mentioned in this video. I find Greek mythology and Hellenism so fascinating and I definitely believe.
Naiya Luna The people with super powers that were called "gods" (lower cased "g") may have been physically real, BUT, we should not worship them, they were still just people, they were born, they were very limited and very very flawed, etc, it's not possible for them to have been the "Source" of the universe, dimensions, and people, etc. The Source of the universe, dimensions, and people, is a person who is the meaning of life. Love, joy, paradise, progressive life, power, people, energy, matter, etc, come from the Source, and the Source is a person, not a thing. If the Greek Gods were real, then perhaps it would be an indication that people can potentially have real super powers.
I once called myself a Christian then when I found out about greek gods I stopped being Christian, because greek gods make more sense i took a mythology class in college and theres gods from other countries resemble the greeks so that's why i decided to believe in greek gods
@@HighLordoftheBathroom they are fallen angels they wanted to take glory away from the cross they craved worship and still do to this day there’s even a verse in the Bible that says Satan can appear as an angel of light he can take any form him and his angels that’s why most pagan pantheons have gods better almost the same different names same description of powers and all that not all these countries or even close to each other but are similar in religion.

@@stepbro4028 ahm actually most got destroyed because of the Huns, German tribes and the Ottomans. You can clearly see it just by looking at Armenia and it's polytheistic religion, when Armenia became the first Christian nation in 301 AD they still spreaded folklores and poems and overall cultural stuff about their polytheistic religion. As an example in the story of Hayk Nahapet (according to a folklore the father of the Armenian Nation) ,Hayk is related to one of Noahs sons but in the same story he defeated a god from the Babylonian pagan mythology known as the Bel Marduk (equivalent to Greek Zeus and Latin Jupiter). I wouldn't really claim that Christians destroyed the ancient Greek scrolls.

@@idontgiveafaboutyou I just saw your comment after a year, Alexandra. I guess what you are saying is, no one should point out the flaws in someone else's arguments. I literally saw Zeus once, he looked me right in the face and called me a total queer and flew back up in the sky. Why did this happen? For no reason at all.
The ones that you refer to are the later nephilim, the abominations. The original Nephilim were the Blue Giants. Further DNA experimentations led to the creation of the abomination species, which were all about monsters.
One day the sky had gotten really dark and cloudy and I was pissed off about something and I looked up into the sky and I screamed out Ares! And a big bolt of lightning so loud it shook the houses streaked across the sky!! It felt like an answer to my call I was so frightened I ran into the house.
Ka 'Mikoe...this just used that question as a soap box to spread his ignorance of the bible. all the myths of Greek gods are watered down story's of the anunnaki and the anunnaki were very real.
most of gods in history were actual people who have probably stuck out in the time period that they lived then later had there life stories twisted around to thinking they weren't human. another thing you should notice many gods in different cultures have the same titles and even existed at the same time as other gods making me thing these were great people that existed once and some of them probably new eachother. just think of them as ancient celebrities
Ron Taylor Actually he is speaking truth, there is a historical account on the real Hercules as being a great ancient military leader who later became a myth.
nahh, they from fallen angels, i guess, but u said this: ''another thing you should notice many gods in different cultures have the same titles and even existed at the same time as other gods making me thing these were great people that existed once and some of them probably new eachother. just think of them as ancient celebrities'', look ill explain u a bit, tbh, the greek, roman and egypt gods, were the same gods, but every population of human, saw the as other gods, (the look) but they were still doing the same stuff, the gods would die, bcz if no one believe in them anymore, they not needed, and losing their job, like u see planet earth, and the nature are dying (bcz people destroy it, and so they destroy the god Pan) We know, for example Zeus, still exist i guess, cuz the thunder still here... like they predicted, We think, Zeus is near USA, cuz lighting is there often :)
Totally. Add to that the confusing of the languages at Babel. You have all of these people groups going off telling tales about the same beings albeit now in different languages and in different names and underlying translational issues.
At least there has never been any war in the name of the Greek religion like islamists or medieval christianic catholics etc... That speaks for itself...
It doesn't speak for itself at all. Aristotle said (in the "Rhetoric") that all good things can be abused, and the better a thing is, the worse it can be abused.
+Catherine tt I know... its hard for you to admit that you do not know... Takes some real knowledge and courage to admit that... Do you know where religious freedom was first perceived and practiced? Do you know any polytheistic religious war that took place in the ancient world? Wasnt Christianity that has made the worst atrocities in the history of mankind? Lets forget the World Wars, Genocides of native Americans and other tribes in asia, america and africa... But wait, now you can deny these things with some eloquent and fictitious arguments... I know its hard to admit anything. After all its harder to realize that you have been a victim of doctrine... PS: Ares was a godly personification of war. He was of course not praised by the majority... Ancient Greek gods and deities are approximately 120... not 12... But i guess you already knew that...
Who are the original people who was here on earth first cause with christianity they say jesus but with maat they say the Egyptians were first with Greeks they say the Greek Gods. Im confused.
If Noah was real he and the people around him are probably the basis for the mythological gods. Egyptian, Greek and Norse which seem to have things in common with each other. They were people who lived for centuries and founded civilization. Both Zeus and Poseidon could definitely be based on Noah.
@@musondampumpu6792 How can Noah be real, when the Noah story was copied from an even earlier story of a great flood by the Sumerians? Have a better chance of being right if you said Utnapishtim was real.
Gods are Spiritual Energy and Vibrations .... not like people who are physical beings ...etc The Source is the reality and we’re all little parts of it etc ...
@@peanut4butterfacio428 ok, search about the Brahman( ultimate reality) in the vedas( Hindu texts). Brahman is considered as the cosmic reality that exists, it's like an ocean and we are the water droplets, we are seperated by the ocean due to rivers lakes and ponds but eventually the lakes, ponds and rivers finally find the ocean into which they merge, just like we need to connect with the cosmic reality, we might be away from it but we can always find it again.
One way to think about myths and gods is that, although they are not physically real, and are more like persistent thoughts, or as recognizitions of awe and beauty in nature, still even thoughts have consequences. Stories change lives. People don't become spirits after death but are located at living, in their thoughts, dreams and behaviours. We embody our dead and we understand ourselves through myths and stories - and from the teachings and quirks of those that are no more here.
Thank you Mr. Callihan, your video put my opinion in a new light. As for the rest of you in the comments, Christianity takes faith, but all else takes more faith.

@@ponyio Cast out of Heaven? The Greek Gods and the Christian God have nothing in common. Infact the Greek Gods are older than the Christian God.

Here is a story for your amusement:
I am pretty sure they were real people with high abilities, perhaps newly arrived beings who came to start a new civilization based upon good organization and a strong ethical code.
Romans had their own gods
has anyone noticed similarities between the name of the Slavic deity Svarozhich and the name of the second Manu Swarochisha?
What other source except of the bible do you have that what the bible says actually happened? I would be really interesed to look at them.

Ancient Roman times came from Ancient Greek
@@Jo-ho3zl - Romans were not the same as Greeks. Religious gods were similar.
Ya, maybe not everything they did was totally nice but I feel like they have done more than we know.
very very good video
great perspective \
They were real until they were brutally murdered by a spartan warrior
So, imagine Zeus being the Son of Jesus (I hope not)
Meaning Kronos would be Jesus and Uranus is God?
someone help me
average no , it would be the father ( god) : chaos
Philippe Gromitsaris Chaos is not really part of the Greek Mythology storyline. He’s just... there.
chronos is darknes before god created everything. zeus , poseidon, had are three faces of god just diffrent interpreted, rest of gods are archangles .
No wtf. Kronos is the god of time. Jesus aint the god of time. Uranus was the sky. So he was technically the God. But his son aint jeebus
tbh, kronos killed Uranus, and after that, there came many wars u know ? jesus still wasnt in that part of the story
But what if it’s the other way around the three sons instead were Zeus,Poseidon, and hades
It would be hard to pan out the grain of truth from a story about a king who has achieved wealth and control but is constantly being deceived by his own wife and kinsmen.
i think people should believe what people believe but don't hate on the video give the guy a break

Do you believe the Olympian "Gods" were a being at sometime in the universe, or just a myth or legend passed on to explain phenomena
I believe in it

As an example in the story of Hayk Nahapet (according to a folklore the father of the Armenian Nation) ,Hayk is related to one of Noahs sons but in the same story he defeated a god from the Babylonian pagan mythology known as the Bel Marduk (equivalent to Greek Zeus and Latin Jupiter).
